Hi folks!
Firstly huge thanks to all of you guys, great community!
After i have installed WM6 (Faria's RK, btw. a brilliant work) I have been trying to install an individual keyboard layout for a couple of hours. Well I read that the msim.96.dll.0409.mui has to be replaced but there is not such a file (yes, i can see even all hidden files etc.) - therfore simply copying the file in the directory wont change anything. The only files i've got are msim.96.dll and msim.dll - and of course they are in the ROM, means no overwriting or deleting possible. Probably I gotta add anything to the registry to refer the keyboard to the new file msim.96.dll.0409.mui???
Thx.

thats because ther is no such file in any wm6 by default!...just put the file in any package. or just copy the file to windows in the device.
just copying the file doesn't work (did even a reset), i guess wm6 isnt searching (no registry entry by default) for msim.96.dll.0409.mui.
any other suggestions?
Cheers!

.0409 is for English (United States) regional settings. Is that what you are set to?
Yes... still not working.
That doesn't make any sense. I take the mUn keyboard (which is just that file) drop it in \Windows, soft reset, and it works. My package I use in my rom is doing exactly the same. There should be nothing else to it. Either your mui file is bad, or there is something else different with your build.
Is the rom you are running built as WWE?
As far as I know it is... under Settings > Device Info, it reads "ROM Version: 2.18.0.0 WWE"
It's Faria's RK Crossbow
the same here, i am not using faria's WWE instead i flashed a file created with the RK. i already tried quite a lot, even renaming the 0409 to 0407 as i am using the German regional settings.
there are probably differences between the RK and WWE (version)

Can't replace wince.nls
I have a Win Mobile Phone Edition 5, very first one in U.S.
I tried to load chinese so that I can read chinese. I copy over font file and am able to see Chinese in Word, providing that I select options.
However I got issues with IE, because I there is no option for me to change the encoding.
I learned that I need to change wince.nls file. And I downloaded your file. Now I got an issue "Access Denied" message when I try to override original wince.nls. Looks like it was in ROM.
Any idea?
Thanks
you should use another file explorer other than the system's one, and then you can overwrite it
the tool is in the attachment(it's in chinese language), it's a green software
The attribute is grayed out.
Thanks for your prompt response and the program.
maybe i did not use it right, some how the menu of the program is mess up. see the attached.
I have Resco Explorer 2005, which also show wince.nls is in rom. Every time I change the other attributes, it changes back when I re-open property page.
While I have a pocket PC 2003 Dell x3. The wince.nls is not rom file.
Can I override rom file?
It is about mid night here in U.S. I will check back first thing in the morning, just in case you do not get response from me right away.
Again, thanks for your help.
on wm2003 it was possible to "override" files in ROM.
Now it is not.
You have to wait until we'll be able to decompress the ROM and inject your wince.nls into ROM.

ok, i've downloaded your chinese.rar to test-it ...
i've replaced the wince.nls with this procedure
in \windows\ , i've renamed wince.nls to wince5.nls
got an error message "Can't delete wince.nls" , but it's renamed
Copy the new wince.nls to \windows\
Copy fonts to \windows\fonts\
import reg file ... modified
soft-reset
...
Anything appears ...
i'm not able to choose chinese in regional settings
In the registry , after soft-resest , nls automaticly set to "0409"
if i set to 0804 and soft-reset , poof .... 0409
I think there is another problem
OK, I will wait.
One another thing I noticed: through ActiveSync, I can create a folder in windows, (well, as you expect). But I can't copy the wince.nls file to even the newly created folder, not just windows folder. On my PC, the message saying... no space or no permission, etc. I do have like 3-4mb left in main storage and install other program.
Just for your infomation.
it is easily possible to copy wince.nls to your \Windows folder. Just create a cab for it.
But it is not taken into system... That;s the problem here...
Will look at it further...

I'm success to copy it in my himalaya. I had tried several method, one of them is o.k. but not sure is this one or not.
1) copy the wince.nls to somewhere in your SD Card.
2) Boot your Himalaya into Safe Mode.
3) Then copy the wince.nls to your Himalaya's \windows\
4) Soft Reset.
Do you mean that you can choose the Chinese region now?

only 1.60b could be chineselization
I had tried to replace wince.nls in WM2K5_160C_WWE in various ways mentioned in xda-dev forum. none of them could be finished this job.
so i had to refresh my rom to 1.60b, everything is OK now. I can override the wince.nls, import *.reg, set regional to PRChina and so on.
expecting a perfect WM2K5_160C supproting Simple Chinese.

WM5 CHS version SD image
Hi buzz:
I have got a SD image from a Himalaya which rom is CHS version, it's backup from a friend of mine. He got it from the seviece center. but when i use this image to flash my himalya, i replaced the SD head, write it to my SD card and flash...finished, hard reset, and I got an error like this:
"Device authentication failure. Please contact the product manufacture. For reference, please provide your device ID.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
Then I found a way to convert the SD image to a .nbf file for the xda-developers site. converted and flashed using the PC through cable, but the same "Device authentication failure..." error occucred again.
And then, I asked my friend flash the SD image to his device which the image came from. succeeded

Ok, you have an autorun.exe in the windows directory, and a config.txt file in the windows directory. The config.txt is the same as it was in WM5 just a location change. Have all your lines point to \extended_rom\ and youll be fine
Wrong thread I know - but I looked all over the place and can't seem to find the definitive answer ... so here goes - am I correct in assuming that it's possible to delete the contents of ext_rom once you've used them? I guess that they are only for installing into the "real" storage, and just as long as you don't need them following a hard reset, they are just taking up some space .. am I correct?
I'm working with orwell's. Those files aren't there, so what has to happen?

No. In AKU 2.x and above, the extended rom partition is locked and cannot be written to and cannot have files deleted.

I'm not too smart either...can you give instructions?
In the system hive, (default.hv) you should have:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm]
"TurnRadioFlag"=dword:0
"AutoRunCFG"="\\Extended_ROM\\config.txt"
"AutoRun"="\\Extended_ROM\\autorun.exe"
Most of the WM6 ROMs are missing the last two keys, thus the Autorun of the Extended_ROM is disabled by default.

in all honesty, you are wrong. Even if those lines are there, for some reason the checkautorun still looks in the windows directory for the config file and the autorun file. I have searched the whole default.hv and still cant figure out why. You figure it out and ill give you a cookie.
Hi all,
I need some advice on doing something that was fairly easy to do in WM6.0 ROMs, which is changing the default keyboard skin by replacing the msim.96.dll.0409.mui file.
I've tried a number of WM6.1 ROMs and this does not work. The only way I have been able to get the .mui file working was to re-cook the ROM and using an OEM package. Even after I re-cook with a new keyboard skin and try to replace the .mui file it does not work. Very strange.
Any of the cooks out there have any ideas why this is? I did a reg. dump of a ROM with and without the keyboard OEM package but did not find anything specific that would show why this does not work.
Appreciate any feedback. I know this works without any issues in WM6.0 ROMs.
Thank you.
Don't know what your doing wrong buddy but most of the time you need to cook the new .mui file in like I always do and i have no issue with the WM6.1 roms ever using the grey keyboard that I always use in my roms. To get this straight your dumping the rom and then copying the new .mui file right over the old file if there is one at all then rebuilding the rom? that is the only way it will work you can't copy over it once you have rebuilt the rom it needs to be cooked in.
austinsnyc,
Thanks for the response.
If I cook the .mui file in a ROM it works fine. The problem is not being able to replace the file (even though the file is overwritten). I was able to do this in WM6.0 ROMs but it doesn't seem this is possible in WM6.1 ROMs and I just wanted to confirm it.
So if I dump, change file, re-cook, works fine. I guess I'll have to do that with any of the new WM6.1 ROMs I end up running.
Thanks again.

Actually you can change it easily via cab install but you need to sign it first. You can try the attached cab, and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1610615&postcount=3 for other skin.
Try this. First import the attached Keyboard Cert registry file (use dotfred's task manager which does registry editing, or resco registry editor). Once you do that, you should be able to use the various keyboard cabs. I've attached one that has like 20 keyboard styles you can choose from (uses mortscript to do this). Choose the one you want, soft reset, and presto...

Yes, there is a way to add the "Battery" string in front, but it requires you to edit a MUI file.
Let me explain:
When you install the distributed cab file it installs on your device various graphic files, plus 2 MUI files. These MUI files are for WWE devices. If your device is set to use other language as default (like mine which is set to work with Greek) then these two MUI files will be installed on your system, but they will be ignored, and the ENM will take it's strings from the original MUI that won't be overwritten by the installation.
There are two ways to get the "Battery" string showing.
The first way is to replace the original MUI files of NM with the new ones that the cab installs. This method arises another problem though: If you do so, the entire NM will be shown in WWE and NOT on your language. This means that you'll get the "Battery" string but all the other strings will be in English and not your language (e.g. Greek)
The second way is a little more tricky, but it has guaranteed results:
You just edit the original MUI file of your device to add the "Battery" string!
Since editing MUI files is tricky I'll post a quick guide on how to do it, but you may need to Google for it to get more details.
Everything will be done on your PC. You will need the following:
1. A MUI unsigner - Signer
2. A Resource Editor
3. The MUI file
I wish I had kept the links, but I only have the apps, so I can't tell you from where to get these apps. The MUI unsigner-signer I get it from these very forums (XDA). Use search to find it. For a resource editor I used XN Resource Editor
The MUI file you will get it from your device. Just browse your phone's Windows directory and copy NotificationManager.dll.XXXX.MUI file on your PC
The .XXXX.MUI part is actually the number of your language. For instance in my case I needed the NotificationManager.dll.0408.MUI which is the GREEK MUI file.
1.
Copy the MUI file on a short path on your PC, something like C:\Temp\MUI\
2.
Extract the MUI unSigner-Signer on the same path
3.
Run the MUI unsigner to unsign your MUI file
4.
Use the resource editor to edit the MUI file. Depending on the case you may need to add the string, or just edit it. We need to fill the string numbered 176.
If the string exists and it's empty just edit it to fill in the string of your desire. If it doesn't exists then create a new string and pay attention on the LANGUAGE selection upon the new string creation menu. It should be the same language as the rest strings on your file. Keep in mind that ALL resource editors will add 16 string in a row. That's normal, and it doesn't matter. Just use the create string command until you have a "176" value that you can edit. Once you edit the "176" String to say whatever you want it to say, save the file and exit Resource editor.
5.
Use MUI signer to sign your file
6.
Copy the modified MUI file somewhere on your device. Don't try to copy it directly on windows directory. The file is marked as "system" and windows won't let you overwrite it.
7.
Once you have copied the modified file on your device, use an application like Total Commander to do 2 tasks:
a. Backup the original file (by copying it somewhere) and
b. Replace the original file with the modified one.
8. Soft Reset your device and everything should be ok now!
PS:
By no way this is a complete guide on how to do it. It's just what I recall from the process I followed some time ago in order to do it myself.
Directions on how to use MUI unsigner-Signer you'll find on the thread that you'll get it.
PS2:
Be safe: KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINAL FILE FIRST!!!
PS3:
Have fun. If someone needs the Greek Translated MUI file PM me. I have also posted it on the ENM thread back at the time I created it...

On my Maple, I have installed the 3VO ROM, and am very happy with it. Just one issue: having set up the German Keyboard layout, the phone returns from time to time to ths standard (US); no way to set German again with the Keymap config, i need to flash the ROM again, which is rather annoying.
Someone has any hint ?
You could always try to replace the US-keymap file, which I did to get my Swedish keyboard working, and softreset. The file is placed in the \Windows directory. First I renamed the original file (eT9.Maple.wwe.kmap.txt) and then copied my modified file from the storage card. I used Total Commander. Not shure the rename step was needed though...
Are there any other better ways?
