Hey. My T-Mobile MDA broke, and i'm sending it back (i have the insurance plan).. they told me that the MDA is out of production and that they'll send me the new replacement, the wing instead. I read the reviews and the thing that stuck out is that the CPU is still the same speed as the MDA technology, while all the other wireless companies new WM6 phones are double the speed (200Mhz vs 400-500Mhz). The reviews I've read say that it hurts the performance of the WING.. does anyone own a wing an find it disappointing? I'm considering having them send me the DASH instead, just so i don't have to deal with the size and stylus, which is another road.. but my basic question is what is the general feelings on the WING?
Thanks,
Adam
Just got my Wing to replaced my MDA. Overall, Wing is an improvement over MDA IMHO. If you're not sastisfy with MDA speed, Wing would be the same disappointment.
Wing vs Dash is not a good comparison. Try to go Tmobile store and play around with both to see which one you like. It's personal reference.
I've used the Dopod C800 (Herald, the same phone as TMo Wing, but with WM5) for a while now and it's a great improvement on the Wizard in may ways though not the speed. But even with WM5, the phone is certainly fast enough for me - and I used to use the much faster Hermes before it broke.
While the Dash is a great phone too, you need to decide on whether you're comfortable with a Smartphone without a touch screen... that's a major but very personal decision!
i decided to stick with them sending me the wing.. are u suggesting i downgrade to z WM5 ROM when i get it? I was thinking more along the lines of going with a WM6 ROM and overclocking the cpu..
Wise choice if you ask me!
I meant, my Dopod C800 only has WM5 which I still find fast enough. WM6 is a little bit faster on the same hardware in my opinion.
downgrading may be a problem at present. I guess sooner or later someone will release a cid unlocker for it. I think WM6 on the Wing slows it down.
I have a question, do you have T-mobile in the US or another country? and do you have to pay to send in the MDA and recieve a Wing? My MDA is starting to act weird and if i can i would like to send it in and recieve a Wing instead.

This may be a dumb question, but for everyone else who is thinking but not asking
How different is the 8525 from the 8125 OS'wise.
Will 8525 WM6 work on a 8125 WM5 machine ?
The Hermes forum has AT&T shipping new 8525's with WM6 and someone uploaded it.

There is a huge difference between the 8525 and the 8125. If you want something that is very close to the Wizard (8125) look at the TMobile Wing. Very similar specs... But you can't put that rom on the Wizard (nor a Wizard rom on a Hermes or Wing)...
With that said, you can take a rom from another device and port it to the Wizard (the 15342 build roms that we have now came from the Tytn or something I believe and were ported over by mUn to the Wizard). Its not a simple process, but its doable by those that understand how to do this.
Thanks
That clears up a few things I had been wondering about.
t-mobile wing
my cousin just bought a t-mobile wing the other day, i compared all the specs and it seems to be exactly the same except the processor speed is 206 as opposed to 195, but its still the omap 850 processor. i also read several reviews say that this is true tha thet t-mobile wing is just a slimmer wizard with an overclocked processor. however when i was using his device it seemed way faster than mine on like every function. any idea why this is?

Between you and me the wing was just a way for t-mobile to get users to pay $300 to upgrade to WM6.

15342 is a Wizard ROM. It's a real deal by HTC and MS. The 17xxx builds are all from other machines.
Oooookkkkkk..... so i got the I-mate SPL to jump back into smartphones and suprizingly....IT SUCKED!!! there is no mod work available for it and no WM6 version until feb '08(supposedly). so now my choices are between the t-mobile dash(excalibur) and the t-mobile sda(hurricane, i think). now here's my problem. i realized i need wifi(thought i could do without) however don't need a touch screen. need small, reliable fast and or course Modable . any input is welcome, don't care if you think you opinion is gold i welcome all comments at this point. Oh yeah and did i mention that i'm selling my SPL on ebay???
Right now I have a T-Mobile dash, known as HTC Excalibur. I do llike the phone, however I have had it for three years and I just found out that the USB port on the phone looses contact and makes the phone difficult to charge.
I want to get another HTC smartphone running Windows Mobile, with Querty Keyboard. The phone must be able to sync to ms Outlook, and read/edit ms Word & Excel files. Also the phone MUST run off a SIM card.
Just by looking around this site, phones which come to my mind are; Blue Angel, Wizard, Hermes, Herald, Kaiser, Titan, Raphael, Wings...
I was looking around and I can get HTC Wizard for $140 on ebay. Is the wizard a good phone or should I look elsewhere? I dont want to spend more than $150...
I appreciate any inoput...
Don't get a Wizard at all, get at least a Tytn or Tytn II.

I just got T-mobile G1, wasnt bad for $160 new from the store...
So far I am very happy with it...
Let us know how u like the G1 3G? I'm waiting on the tmob Touch Pro2 due in July...
Love my G1, even more so with the custom ROMs available as it has made the mobile much more complete. When it was originally released it felt rushed but everyone knew it had potential to improve and grow, due to the nature of Android - And boy has it done that!
Everything has improved from responsiveness, battery life, quality applications, louder external and internal volume for calls, A2DP support for Bluetooth stereo headsets, video recording, vastly improved camera software and more. The only thing that's missing (which is currently being developed) is Bluetooth OBEX support so users can finally send and receive files via Bluetooth.
As soon as that's implemented it will be the most complete smartphone I've ever used.

The G1 is awesome, just that awesome... It was well worth the $160 I spend on it...
My wife and I both have the Fuze with Energy ROMs. Our contract is going to be up soon and my wife is pushing for an upgrade of her phone which makes me consider it too. However I love the Fuze and am not sure if it's worth upgrading to any other model. The TP2 is nice, but to me it just seems to be more of the same with a bigger screen. Any recommendations on what to upgrade to?
Thx
Personally, I'm done with windoze mobile. I'm holding onto my fuze until several android phones hit AT&T.
I am also confused regarding the upgrade of TP. TP2 doesnt look like an upgrade to me. It only has bigger screen. Otherwise the processor and RAM and ROM are the same and it also lacks the flash. i even checked Touch HD and Touch Diamond and they also have to same specs.
I am not so technical but I have an idea in mind and would like a suggestion from the gurus here.... I think Acer's touch Neo is a nice consideration but only and only if LEO's sense can be run on it.
Plz help us to chose guys. Thanks
If you are looking to stay with Winmo, the HD2 or Omnia2 are pretty big upgrades. Don't know if you want a hardware keyboard though.
Thanks JesusFreak316 ... but HD2 is tooooo big.
Is it possible to run HTC's sense latest versions on Omnia2 or Acer Neotouch?
i want upgrade too, i was thinking about topaz. topaz vs rhodium .... 300 vs 400 Euro
Leo is very expensive for me, more then 500Euro.
I have an HTC Wizard 8125 and really like it. If I could easily upgrade from the WM 5 and control the font size when texting (reading and writing) and other screens, I would keep it. Will any of the phones out now do these things? This is not a work phone and I'm not a game player if that helps. Just a lot of email, internet and texting. Any suggestions for my next phone?
The best hardware keyboard device on this days is Rhodium
Definitely a great device for what you need
That's kinda pricey. anything in the $200 range?
Raphael/Touch Pro/Fuze on eBay.
I bought 2 Brand new ones off eBay for only $350 ($175 Each). Had to unlock them myself, but that wasn't a big deal.
They aren't TOO expensive. You might find a few cheap ones.

maybe get a kaiser they are pretty cheap.
HTC Universal.
fuzes are horrible phones, i'd rather use a wallaby.
i have a kaiser, it's more functional in android than it is in WM.
i'd say go with a uni or athena. athena would be fun.
on second thought i should add more details.
640x480 vs 320x240
3.6" screen vs 2.8"
wifi/bluetooth/fullsized SDHC and 520mhz vs 200mhz.
I really love my uni. to the point of breaking one and buying another, despite having..a large amount of backup phones. the os runs in 320x240 so it's..better for fingertyping+large text.

fuzes are not bad... i have one that is my main device since jan/2009... no complaints... newer ones are faster, prettier... but like my fuze
in my experiance, they are. but hey i'd still be using wm2003 so what could i know right =D
wizard was my second. until its screen met with the hard wood floor of sonystyle.
also, uni has a 3.5 stereo jack. which is quite handy comapred to a 2.5/extusb on newer phones.
For a keyboard device you should consider & try the Rhodium!
So after looking at these, I have to admit I really like the Rhodium. I see one on ebay for $357. But it is TMobile and I am on Cincinnati Bell. Is it easy to unlock? I had to unlock my Wizard as it was from Cingular. The ad says that the 3g will only work on TMobile. Think that is true? or can that be hacked? Is that the right term?
if its unlocked you can use it personaly i have a wizard (3g) running WM6.5 and if you do its text and email and that stuff theres not much point in upgradeing unless you want to start doing more stuff

You can get the phone sim-unlocked for $10-15 through various online services, and then you can use it on CB just fine, they share the same 3G frequencies as T-Mobile. The ad just said "T-Mo only" because you can't use AT&T's 3G bands with it (you'd need the Tilt2 version of the Rhodium). So, just make sure the ones you're looking at online are the T-Mobile version, which are pretty easy to spot
I started off with Cingular 8125 too, and would still be using it if I hadn't lost it this past fall I went straight for the Tmo TP2, and have been extremely pleased with it.
Now, having said all that...before you spend any money I'd be sure to take some time searching the Wizard boards here to see if there's any way to do what you're looking for...I know at the very least that text size in SMS can be altered by using 3rd-party SMS clients. And, I know it's possible to get a WM 6.1 ROM onto the wizard, which might open up more options for you as well.
