This may be a dumb question, but for everyone else who is thinking but not asking
How different is the 8525 from the 8125 OS'wise.
Will 8525 WM6 work on a 8125 WM5 machine ?
The Hermes forum has AT&T shipping new 8525's with WM6 and someone uploaded it.

There is a huge difference between the 8525 and the 8125. If you want something that is very close to the Wizard (8125) look at the TMobile Wing. Very similar specs... But you can't put that rom on the Wizard (nor a Wizard rom on a Hermes or Wing)...
With that said, you can take a rom from another device and port it to the Wizard (the 15342 build roms that we have now came from the Tytn or something I believe and were ported over by mUn to the Wizard). Its not a simple process, but its doable by those that understand how to do this.
Thanks
That clears up a few things I had been wondering about.
t-mobile wing
my cousin just bought a t-mobile wing the other day, i compared all the specs and it seems to be exactly the same except the processor speed is 206 as opposed to 195, but its still the omap 850 processor. i also read several reviews say that this is true tha thet t-mobile wing is just a slimmer wizard with an overclocked processor. however when i was using his device it seemed way faster than mine on like every function. any idea why this is?

Between you and me the wing was just a way for t-mobile to get users to pay $300 to upgrade to WM6.

15342 is a Wizard ROM. It's a real deal by HTC and MS. The 17xxx builds are all from other machines.

This is from a brand new HTC Apache, SprintPCS PPC-6700. CDMA, WM5, BT 1.2, WiFi, EV-DO, etc.
The Radio and ExtROM are there also. I'm hoping this will help us Harrier users get WM5 on our phones in combination with the leaked BA WM5 ROM...
92GTA, thanks for your persistence Here is hoping this helps us 6600 users get closer to WM5. One thing I noticed is that the hardware version for both the 6600 and the 6700 both say 0041, so I am really hopeful.
Crossing my fingers on this one. Make sure Buzz is made aware of this ROM!
Well, I'm no expert, and I have no equipment, no software, and no skills, lol. So I can't help much here. But I do applaud the effort and wish there were some way I could contribute.
Anyway, I would imagine that if you take the ROM from an Apache (Sprint PPC-6700) and compare it to the ROM of a Wizard, whatever the differences are is probably exactly what the differences between the Harrier and Blue Angel ROMS need to be (for WM5 to be functional on both).
Just a thought...

Hey could you possibly dump your device?, or guide me to a tutorial or a way to upgrade my harrier to 2.04? thanx
Wheres the ROM Gone??
Hi could you post the rom again, its not on the ftp anymore. I'm after ril.dll in particular. THanks
I browsed around in the FTP.
Since the Apache is some sort of upgrade of the Wizard (? - I think, I don't understand the differences between them), I figured it was in the Wizard section...and it is.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/HTC_Wizard/Extended_Roms/Sprint PPC 6700 extended ROM.zip
thats just the extended rom (the carrier's customisation files). I meant the full ROM. Anyway its ok I dont need it now I got the ril.dll I needed from the wizard instead.
btw the apache is a cdma variation of the wizard, only available in the usa as the sprint 6700, but verizon are releasing it soon.
how do you dump the rom? I've got a sprint 6700 ...
sprint has a 2.xxrom now, i want to put that on my 1.05 verizon xv6700-will it cause major problems?[/quote]
Hey. My T-Mobile MDA broke, and i'm sending it back (i have the insurance plan).. they told me that the MDA is out of production and that they'll send me the new replacement, the wing instead. I read the reviews and the thing that stuck out is that the CPU is still the same speed as the MDA technology, while all the other wireless companies new WM6 phones are double the speed (200Mhz vs 400-500Mhz). The reviews I've read say that it hurts the performance of the WING.. does anyone own a wing an find it disappointing? I'm considering having them send me the DASH instead, just so i don't have to deal with the size and stylus, which is another road.. but my basic question is what is the general feelings on the WING?
Thanks,
Adam
Just got my Wing to replaced my MDA. Overall, Wing is an improvement over MDA IMHO. If you're not sastisfy with MDA speed, Wing would be the same disappointment.
Wing vs Dash is not a good comparison. Try to go Tmobile store and play around with both to see which one you like. It's personal reference.
I've used the Dopod C800 (Herald, the same phone as TMo Wing, but with WM5) for a while now and it's a great improvement on the Wizard in may ways though not the speed. But even with WM5, the phone is certainly fast enough for me - and I used to use the much faster Hermes before it broke.
While the Dash is a great phone too, you need to decide on whether you're comfortable with a Smartphone without a touch screen... that's a major but very personal decision!
i decided to stick with them sending me the wing.. are u suggesting i downgrade to z WM5 ROM when i get it? I was thinking more along the lines of going with a WM6 ROM and overclocking the cpu..
Wise choice if you ask me!
I meant, my Dopod C800 only has WM5 which I still find fast enough. WM6 is a little bit faster on the same hardware in my opinion.
downgrading may be a problem at present. I guess sooner or later someone will release a cid unlocker for it. I think WM6 on the Wing slows it down.
I have a question, do you have T-mobile in the US or another country? and do you have to pay to send in the MDA and recieve a Wing? My MDA is starting to act weird and if i can i would like to send it in and recieve a Wing instead.
Allright I just got a Tilt that's locked to ATT and I am loving it. The amount of info on XDA is mind boggling on the updating subject, and I have been reading for the past 4 days. Please dont flame/hate me, I am just trying to avoid bricking my lovely gadget.
My biggest problem with the Tilt right now is, the proxy settings dont seem to stick. I am hoping that a ROM upgrade might fix that. Other then that I find the eye candy, useful applications (as opposed to junk from ATT) offered by these ROMs combined with their frugal use of memory quite appealing. Someone mentioned they speed up the device considerably.
Question is, how do I choose. I am assuming that you look for a ROM that works with your radio, and work backwards. But is a latter version of a Radio ROM always better? Would a radio ROM for a TyTn II work on the Tilt.
I have not found any info where it says what will and WILL NOT work for a specific instrument, in my case a Tilt.
Hope some Tilt user might be able to clarify.

I'd follow the above suggestion to hit the Tilt wiki...and just as a freebie, I'll take these two questions.
The newer the radio idea doesn't work here. You should really try every radio version that works with the ROM you are using. Why? They all have different absorbtion rates and this affects signal quality/strength and battery drain. What works for you might not work as well for me. And since flashing the radio doesn't wipe all of your programs...it doesn't hurt to swap it every couple of days while you experiment.
As for TyTN II radios on the Tilt....(taken straight from the wiki)
HTC Kaiser is also known as HTC P4550. Official names are:
HTC TyTN II
Qtek & HTC TyTN II / P4550
Orange & HTC TyTN II
T-Mobile MDA Vario III Deutsch
AT&T Tilt (8900, 8915, 8925), FAQ - Tilt nuances, TiltSpecificWikiPage
Vodafone Personal Assistant Compact V
Vodafone v1615 Netherlands
SFR v1615
Swisscom Mobile Assistant XPA v1615
O2 Xda Stellar
These are all the same device with a different name stamped on it.
You could choose any ROM there's some wonderful chefs out there (Dutty, Schaps, Alex, Sleuth, etc,etc....). I have had flashed my Tilt God knows how many times with different ROMs. It's about taste on each ROM, read the specifications on each thread about the ROM and flash it. If it wasn't what you were looking for, choose another ROM. And look here about the Radio version that will work on the Tilt http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349375
I'm in Los Angeles using radio 1.27.12.17 and I've very good reception all the time on my tilt.
Happy flashing
This is awesome
I have honestly not see a forum with such a speedy response. I am already deep into the Wiki . Thanks for all the help and a kudos to all the great Chefs.

WIth the Tilt 2 and WM 6.5 coming will the Fuze see an upgrade or will it be only for the Tilt 2?
Good question, but highly unlikely.
AT&T has already released a new rom for the Fuze with several fixes over 6 months ago. I'd be really amazed if they do offer a 6.5 rom for the Fuze. Though in all reality, i still fail to see why people stick with an oem 6.1 rom when 6.5 has so many improvements.
rumor has it that they're not going to give the upgrade for fuze owners. You'll have to deal with the cooked roms, (which i think really rocks, especially NRG's rom). People don't like trying new things and it's also about the big change from 6.1 to 6.5 which require a slight learning curve. but if you're here, then you're willing to learn.. i hope.
Agreed, huge NRGrom fan here, the latest release (genesis) is really nice!
you'd be quite happy with it - there is not much to fear about cooking. So long as you can have activesync connected to your phone for 10 minutes without interruption for the hardspl and rom install, you're golden (translation, don't try with activesync 3.0 or something really old that may not be reliable)
I personally REALLY like the new start menu for windows 6.5 - especially on newer builds where you can click and hold to move around programs
You will definitely not regret installing a cooked rom (again, my personal vote for newbs goes for EnergyROM)
rumours that AT&T is upgrading samsung jet & epix to wm6.5.
There are changes that fuze will be upgraded too.

Does anybody know of a date yet?
Seeing as how 6.5 is not officially to be released until october 6'th when the windows marketplace goes live, we'll see how long after that so AT&T can 'customize' the experience / Butcher the hell out of the rom.
I have a good feeling as soon as 6.5 comes out we are going to see a LOT more people hate their oem rom's.
i really really doubt there will be a 6.5 upgrade. to get an official rom approved, it requires the check off of the manufacturer (htc) and carrier (att) and maybe microsoft, im not really sure about them and winmo licensing to devices. but it would be easier to only focus on the newest devices. if you really want 6.5 they would prefer you buy a new device with it. ive been running 6.5 on my fuze for forever. it rtm'd in may so thats the real "release date" of 6.5. you dont buy windows mobile so dont focus on dates. new builds come out everday since forever. itll be interesting to see what htc does with 6.5 cause the new builds are ugly. for some reason microsoft decided to "improve" the interface without consulting on htc's design brilliance but whatever. we will see.
Does anyone know if you can install a cooked rom using Vista or Windows 7? I don't have access to a WinXP box right now.
Thanks
of course you can. theres no real difference. i have both vista and 7 for cooking. just right click and click run as administrator.

Really? Seriously? Granted, there are "under the hood" improvements but the UI is a bad joke.
How did it happen that MS can't even line up a grid of icons on a rectangular screen?
I'll tell you how. The artistiicly inclined design folks missed a meeting, and a geek with a slide rule explained how there would be more area for your fat thumb if icons were arranged in a "honycombed" grid.
This absurdity never got caught in time. Too late. Can't change it now. Wait for WM7.
Remember this whenever you look at your device.
Just my opinion. Doesn't matter. Some will be happy with whatever slop MS ships.
Sorry. I couldn't resist.
hi,
recently one of my friend give me at&t fuze of following Specification
ROM=1.95.502.5 WWE
Radio=1.02.25.32

i tried latest TAEL rom but it is giving me error.
can u suggest me any idea...
thanks in advance..

I have an HTC Wizard 8125 and really like it. If I could easily upgrade from the WM 5 and control the font size when texting (reading and writing) and other screens, I would keep it. Will any of the phones out now do these things? This is not a work phone and I'm not a game player if that helps. Just a lot of email, internet and texting. Any suggestions for my next phone?
The best hardware keyboard device on this days is Rhodium
Definitely a great device for what you need
That's kinda pricey. anything in the $200 range?
Raphael/Touch Pro/Fuze on eBay.
I bought 2 Brand new ones off eBay for only $350 ($175 Each). Had to unlock them myself, but that wasn't a big deal.
They aren't TOO expensive. You might find a few cheap ones.

maybe get a kaiser they are pretty cheap.
HTC Universal.
fuzes are horrible phones, i'd rather use a wallaby.
i have a kaiser, it's more functional in android than it is in WM.
i'd say go with a uni or athena. athena would be fun.
on second thought i should add more details.
640x480 vs 320x240
3.6" screen vs 2.8"
wifi/bluetooth/fullsized SDHC and 520mhz vs 200mhz.
I really love my uni. to the point of breaking one and buying another, despite having..a large amount of backup phones. the os runs in 320x240 so it's..better for fingertyping+large text.

fuzes are not bad... i have one that is my main device since jan/2009... no complaints... newer ones are faster, prettier... but like my fuze
in my experiance, they are. but hey i'd still be using wm2003 so what could i know right =D
wizard was my second. until its screen met with the hard wood floor of sonystyle.
also, uni has a 3.5 stereo jack. which is quite handy comapred to a 2.5/extusb on newer phones.
For a keyboard device you should consider & try the Rhodium!
So after looking at these, I have to admit I really like the Rhodium. I see one on ebay for $357. But it is TMobile and I am on Cincinnati Bell. Is it easy to unlock? I had to unlock my Wizard as it was from Cingular. The ad says that the 3g will only work on TMobile. Think that is true? or can that be hacked? Is that the right term?
if its unlocked you can use it personaly i have a wizard (3g) running WM6.5 and if you do its text and email and that stuff theres not much point in upgradeing unless you want to start doing more stuff

You can get the phone sim-unlocked for $10-15 through various online services, and then you can use it on CB just fine, they share the same 3G frequencies as T-Mobile. The ad just said "T-Mo only" because you can't use AT&T's 3G bands with it (you'd need the Tilt2 version of the Rhodium). So, just make sure the ones you're looking at online are the T-Mobile version, which are pretty easy to spot
I started off with Cingular 8125 too, and would still be using it if I hadn't lost it this past fall I went straight for the Tmo TP2, and have been extremely pleased with it.
Now, having said all that...before you spend any money I'd be sure to take some time searching the Wizard boards here to see if there's any way to do what you're looking for...I know at the very least that text size in SMS can be altered by using 3rd-party SMS clients. And, I know it's possible to get a WM 6.1 ROM onto the wizard, which might open up more options for you as well.
