!!!! Final ULTIMATE - No Bugs HTC Universal WM6 ROM!!!! - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

The FINAL ABSOLUTE NO BUGS HTC Universal WM6 ROM
Sorry - had to split it into 3 parts - webserver has a bit of a bug...
Here are the parts:
http://vidmes.com/Uni/final/part1
http://vidmes.com/Uni/final/part2
http://vidmes.com/Uni/final/part3
ENJOY!

Now that you have opened the links in the above post you will have the 3 most important pages\tools in the Xda Dev Forums..
In case you don't know what they are, the links go to:
Midget_1990's announcement (on the top of this section of the forum) <<< Read the announcement carefully
The Wiki (Click on the picture of the Universal to go to the Universal section)
Searching Xda Dev via Google (a bit better than the forum's search tool)
(and if you didn't click on the links - do so!)
How to's
Installing a ROM
Grab the ROM. Usual places are:
Xda Dev FTP's Uploads (Username:xda Password:xda)
TehPenguin's Mirror
RapidShare
WM-Gurus (You need to be a member - DO NOT sign up unless you ARE a guru...)
Read the ROM's ReadMe file (if it has one)
Install the latest version of ActiveSync on your computer
Disconnect your Universal
Get your Universal into Bootloader mode (I'll let you search the wiki for that...)
Connect your Universal (and allow new drivers to install (XP will complain, but just hit 'Continue'))
Follow the instructions that came with the ROM (you don't need to Soft Reset or get into bootloader - we've already done that)
Submitting a Bug Report
Ensure that you have tested every possible fix (Remember: This is a DEVELOPMENT community...)
Search for other fixes or tweaks that you could try (on the wiki, in other sections of the forum)
Find the correct thread (for the ROM version you are using, or the type of bug)
Give as much details as possible. Such as:
Type of Universal (JasJar, Exec, Dopod, etc)
The nature of the bug - being descriptive (ask yourself: "Will people understand what I am saying?")
Any software on your Universal that may be cause the error (or you believe is involved)
If the bug involves your PC (eg syncing issues) - The OS (XP, Vista, Linux(??)) that the PC is running and any software that may be involved (eg ActiveSync Version xx, Office 2003, etc)
Exceptions: If it is a common bug, over different ROMs, then you are permitted to create a new thread (eg for the Bluetooth headsets malfunctioning...)
Dealing with n00bs
BE POLITE (they may, one day, grow into contributing members... or even developers!)
Find the correct answer to their question (keep reading... it gets better)
DO NOT GIVE THEM DIRECT LINKS
Give them the link to the search page with the results. Why?
They will learn how to spot a relevant result
They will learn correct search terms
It prevents them from becoming lazy
If the result is hard to spot, give them a clue (eg it contains the words "Attachements: bubblefixV2.cab")
Encourage them to learn and share their knowledge (such that they will learn the pain of n00b questions)
Insert a link to this thread, shouting the praises of the "Ultimate, Bug Free" Rom you found...
Extra information / FAQ
Will this ROM work on my iPaq x2932/Asus 454323/Nokia 5110/etc...
NO! This is the forum for the HTC Universal - rebranded as the O2 Xda Exec, I-Mate JasJar, Dopod 900, QTek 9000, etc - The ROMs are specific for these devices and will not work (without serious hacking) on any other device!
I tried flashing - now my Universal doesn't work!!
Reset it in bootloader (hold power + backlight button, now press the reset button), try to resinstall the ROM with my instructions above. If this fails, try a different ROM, if that fails - search the forums
I are tri instl bt hedset 4 mms... no work... fail!... plz help? not work? k thnx
WHAT???? Firstly, SPEAK ENGLISH! Exceptions are made for those who don't speak english as a first language - but this is a forum, not MSN or IRC, so t-a-k-e y-o-u-r t-i-m-e and construct logical sentences. This gives a good impression on those who may help you and makes it easier for non-english speakers (and sometimes those that do speak english) to understand what is going on
My installation of Obscure-Pocket-App-Noone-Has-Heard-Of-Before(TM) doesn't work!
Welcome to the world of upgrading. Try to see if the company has produced a new version, or if there is an alternative. Otherwise downgrade back to WM5...
Finally - if you read nothing else, at least read this:
This a forum of Developers - all things on here are Betas and are (no offence to the find people that make them) full of bugs
If you require a stable device stick to the latest WM5 official release from your provider
Also, upgrading the firmware to a non-official version voids the warranty - SO BEWARE THE RISKS AND USE ROMS CAREFULLY
- And one last thing: Welcome to the Xda-Developers forum!!
(ps. I make no apologise - those that are experienced enough not to need to read this should be happy to see it exists, those that are inexperienced need to read this anyhow)
(pps. Just some stats: at the time of posting Midget's announcement had just over 800 views, whereas the ROM threads had (much) more than 20 000 each - this is just one justification for this post)

thanks. good info.

This is not a joke - it is SERIOUS
Do realise that, in the last hour, Midget's announcement has gained 10% of its total views. This is quite impressive as that last hour constitutes a mere 0.2% of the time it has existed.
Personally I believe that this thread is quite a success...

Are you in advertising ?
As I understand, most if not all rom makers enjoy the attention and maybe even adoration they receive.
This, to me is proven by "handing" out their work and asking for replies, in an open forum community.
Therefore they could / should also expect some very silly noob questions.
(I think even the rommakers were ones Noobs themselves)
Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the marvelous work they do, and they deserve every praise they get for that.
But please don't wine.
Greetings,
Wout

The WIKI Ideas/Suggestion Thread

Hi,
Next to making ROMs I want to try and work on the wiki some more to make it THE prophet information source on basic questions.
I made this thread for users to suggest stuff that they think should be covered.
This is NOT a thread for asking questions about your prophet.
Thanks
Hi Jester
Wiki forums has pros and cons. Reading 20 pages of mixed text is not by far the best way to learn anything, the main problem for me is to distingish good info from bad one.
The 'Expert Selection': For each thread I would like to see only what an expert/senior member has selected. This filter can be multiple and tematic; the same 'expert' can select only some posts an 'rename' the sub-thread; and of course the same thread could be filtered by two or more members.
This way i can have the same point of view of them, and this is important for me..
Hi Jester,
Thanks for the big support on the Prophet and releasing ROM versions!
In the Forums there are many questions about how to upgrade your (for example) Dutch ROM to a WWE, what to do, maybe this is also something to add to the Wiki.
The Wiki side sould be rich of information about how to upgrade the ROM, what are usefull programms, free or payed, where does ipl and SPL stand for, What are the latest versions.
Groet,
TheTeek
Hi Jesterz,
Thanks a ton for your ROMs and your efforts!
One of the most eagerly sought after info is ROM editing specifically for G4 roms (specially again for Prophet).
Can you help in consolidating the tools (along with usage tips) to modify ROMs to achieve the following:
1. Steps to upgrade only the OS to whichever ROM OS you want.
2. Steps to increase the pagepool to X [I understand the device runs faster on an increased pagepool], but I am not sure of the ideal size to be kept. I got some details from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283280&highlight=pagepool
4. Steps to remove MS Office, voice dial and other applications from the rom and add a few apps. Will also need help in adding few apps like resco explorer and some registry hacks into the ROM.
5. Steps to move some programs from programs to system (for e.g smsdeliveryfix)
Am sure others can also add to this request.
Thanks.
Hi Jesterz,
thanks for this thread, I beleve there are a lot of stupid questions because a lot of information in the wiki are too much generic and the people have fear to make some errors (IS NOT YOUR FAULT because the newbie are sometime very newbie).
My dream wiki is:
- more specific
- with new information
For example, if you check the main procedure to update the rom, there are some step not very clear:
1) ***
If it states: "Could not update itsutils.dll to the current version, maybe it is in use ?" Do the following :
Copy the cab's from the Utils folder in the Lokiwiz03a.zip file to your Prophet and execute them.
(There are two files : "Cert_SPCS.cab" and "EnableRapi.cab")
This is not clear. A lot of user wrote me in private asking if you need to do a soft reset (or no, or an hard reset) after that.
2) ***
Sometime after that the itsutils.dll error is still alive. What the people have to do?
3)***
In some rom, you don't have to unlock the cid... right? But this is not on the wiki.
4) ***
There are some question where there are not answer, like this one in the ROM DUMPT.
"if you want backup your own rom, you have to do the unlock cid procedure and update the rom with another one. But if you do that you lost your own rom!!! So, why there is a Dump rom procedure, if you can not do that with your original one?"
5) ***
I would lik see in the wiky a tread with the list of the BEST ROM and the update.
6) ***
There are some etc...
I think what would be a *very* good piece of info for newbies is what are all the tools you guys use (cert.cab, etc etc....) and what each does to some degree....
as a newb myself, I find it *very* daunting and very scary to see lots of stuff posted on the forums that say "How To: Copy fileA and fileB to device, run fileC.exe on computer, then execute fileD on device, then wait, and poof! you're done". I'd be nice to at least know that the heck each of the components are and the purpose (even if it's very technical) of each one.
Also, if it's possible, list off any interdependencies these tools have. There are too many "half-instructions" floating around and it's really difficult to determine whether the user needs to do anything before hand before following the instructions.
*lastely*, Can we get a guide that lists off all the pros and cons for each of the custom ROMs that are getting posted. It's a little tough for newbies to know what are all the pros and cons for each ROM. Yes, we know there are pros and cons and nothings perfect, but *what* are the bugs? and what are the features? At least that way we can decide for ourselves whether or not the ROM will work for us...
I'm only into day 2 of all of this so I apologize if what I'm suggesting sounds stupid.
Thanks
Hello all,
Jesterz, thanks you for your investisment in the forum.
Some suggestions about the wiki.
One of the main issues for upgrading a rom is to have a clear view of what is going on.
There are many threads discussing different roms.
It should be grateful to have one main page giving an overview of every live rom and a page for each rom where the author can put a link and also give the current status of his rom and known issues. So I join to Mr Yellow for this.
It should be something very basic, not as far as an Issue tracking page (ie http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MPA)
By now, whenever I want to update a rom, I have to read the entire post...
One solution can be, for each cooking rom version, adding a text file that describe everything to know.
Of course, a howto for cooking rom and useful mistakes can be also interesting.
cheers
Andre
Hi Guys - and yes, thanks for all the time & investment made here.
I'm a fairly new member, and one thing I think would benefit the WIKI is an idiots guide or introduction.
I found the the wiki a bit tricky in so much that it starts at a fairly high level and misses the basics
Whats an AKU and why might I prefer a new one ?
What extra features can I get with a new rom ?
Why might I need newer radio drivers ?
Stuff like that.
Also, a glossary would go down reall well.

Not an idiot guide but something more for the leaner who want to be experts like most here

I think these are all great suggestions. The Prophet wiki is looking pretty sparse at the moment. So why doesn't everyone start editing it, rather than just talking about it?

Hello
read it !
agree!
Shall i make a tutorial for changing the case? I know there is one already in another forum(modaco). But i want one on xda-developers?
the more the merrier!
I think possibly the most useful thing would be 'How to recover Prophet stuck in Bootloader'. I seem to telling people how to do it most days and sometimes more than once a day...
I'll happily write a 'How To' if required.

You know, that's what's awesome about the wiki... you *CAN* go ahead and write whatever you want. It only takes like 5-10 minutes to understand the syntax of wiki-code... create a new page, write your stuff down, and start formatting. Bam, you've created a wiki page that everyone can use. Announce to the fourm that you've done so and you're done!
Then you can start insulting newbies that complain about getting stuck in boot loader that they should search and read the wiki! It feels really good!

You don't upload anything. You can edit each page like it was a forum post. there's special syntax for lists, bullet points, headlines, links etc... but if you want to create a page, all you need is a title and that's it. Everything is done on the serverside.
The easiest way to start is to pick a page, click the edit button at the bottom, then add a new link to a page using the syntax [new page title]. when you save it, "new page title" becomes a link to a new page where you can create a new page and add more content there.
Give it a shot. Don't be afraid to break stuff.. you can always look back on old versions of the page and reverse any changes.

How would you guys like a Bugtracker?

I'm currently working on a Bugtracker for the xda-developers (my own project - wasn't asked by anybody)
The idea behind it is to allow:
The Developers to see what bugs are outstanding
The user to submit their problems
The curious to see which ROM has less bugs
The n00bs to do research before asking questions (and have more places to spam)
I'm not planning to replace the forums, I just want to make an extra tool that can be used along side the forums - but is neater for bug reporting
Feel free to post your thoughts on if you like it (and so what should be included) or if you don't like it (and so what should replace it, if anything)
Thanks!
Hey, that's very nice.
But.. Are we talking about a new website? or just a new thread?

Entirely new website.
It will be hosted on my http://www.vidmes.com webserver
i voted approving the bugtracker but i like the idea of all the information about universal development being centralized in one only location.
so, i think it would be interesting to keep it in this forum.
It's ok, we'll just have a sticky thread that has a link to TehPenguin's site.
I vote you go for it TehPenguin.

Well, I've done some tentative work on it - and its looking good (if a little bare - I'm a software developer, not a web designer )
I'm a little busy this week, so its going to be about 2 weeks before I announce the link for the Beta
In the mean time, I'd like suggestions as to what people want in it
(Also, I notice one negative vote - I'd like to see their argument....)
Thanks!
Great Idea
I think mandatory information should be
1) Device Vendor...ie Imate, XDA etc
2) Radio stack in use
3) OS Rom in use
4) Third party software installed ( I know this list can be big, I myself have well over 100 apps as std) but is important for diagnosing bugs. Perhaps we could get an AppMgr listing from each system, not too hard to obtain.
You could also go overboard a little and have a PDA page, browseable from our Uni's so nothing graphics intensive or fancy. A simple login dialogue ( Can we port XDA-Dev user accounts?) once the user has logged in, they fill in a basic form with the bug description, click on submit and we could pull the information in points 1 to 4 above off of the device with a script.
Just my 50pence worth.
Great idea m8, hope it gets somewhere.............let me know if I can help with anything.
Cheers,
Beast

What I was planning to do with this is to have them describe a "Bug" in very generic terms as the Bug's description. Then they are required to add a comment (which other people may add) - this comment would have a "template" which would have things such as vendor, radio (I didn't actually think of this one), etc...

Some good ideas but....
I can't actually get info from the xda-developer's forums database - this may be a security risk on their behalf and would require far to much messing around to organise (as much as I would like to do it)
You will be able to view the page on your PDA's - its _very_ basic and I'll try to keep it xHTML complaint and do fanciness with CSS (though at the moment it does use some table hax)
Pulling info out of the PDA is virtually impossible (unless I build an app for the PDA's.... maybe later ) since the pda only tells me what browser version it is using
Either way - these are the things I like to see - Ideas!!!!
Keep them coming!

I totally agree with DaVince, having a bug tracking website would be cool and having a link directly to the site via xda-developers is a good idea. Keeping everything centralised and available for use by everyone who uses xda-developers.

Hi TehPenguin,
Surely we can run a JScript or Vbs through the PPC Browser to get the required data from the Reg, only a couple of RegReads!
Just another thought............... I prefer accurate information, the reg is less likely to make mistakes than a user!! (No offence intended to anyone)

Hi,
Would be great to have this.

Why not use one of the many bugtrackers already out there? I prefer Flyspray (http://www.flyspray.org/) since it's as mighty as Mantis, but more Web 2.0 ... and you should be able to browse it on your PPC, although I don't think anybody really wants this ...
Cheers,

P.S.: As for getting registry stuff through the PPC ... I doubt you can read out the registry by a JavaScript running on the page itself. Also there are many geeks out there who use Resco so they could easily export a .reg-file and attach it to the report.

I've had a look at at a number of bug reporting systems - the problem with them is that I'd have to end up customising it quite a bit anyway. For instance, they are typically designed for one program, possibly with options to support different parts\plug-ins for these programs. My design involves having multiple "Devices" each with multiple "ROMs", which may be deprecated, and each of these ROMs have multiple bugs - thats a couple more levels of complexity than the average bug tracker can handle.
Although they are more "Web 2.0" the Javasript\other fanciness would make it difficult to view on a PDA. Personally I prefer the old style Web 1.0 and a PHP back end
The other advantage of me making it is that you guys can have, almost, anything you want - and it should be done as soon as I have time, seeing as I know the code intimately.
And the point I really like - I love coding

Exporting a reg file is the only possibility. Due to "security" problems, no script can actually see the registry of the device (or your PC for that matter), except what is in the "User Agent" key.
I'll put it on the "TODO" list to make a .NET program that automatically dumps your settings and creates a bug report
Given time, this can become quite beautiful. And time is now something that I will have - since I'm on holidays for the next few weeks!! (Yay for no more exams!!)
The alpha version is almost finished
I'll put a link up onto WM-Gurus for the final testing stage of the Alpha and see how it goes
Once the Alpha is complete (ie not too buggy) I'll put the link for the Beta here
Enjoy!
this is really a great idea.
i hope all goes well...

[06 July] XdaBugs - A Formal Introduction
Does your ROM play up?
Annoyed that those lazy developers are doing nothing?
Your complaints getting lost in all the n00b questions?
Well look no further - XdaBugs is your answer!!
What is XdaBugs?
XdaBugs is a Bug Tracking system that is designed for the multiple devices, roms and problems that mobile devices suffer. Using our unpatented technology, you can place a bug report using a structured form that allows developers to quickly decipher the problems and users to add comments and additional info
But, doesn't that replace these forums?
No.
XdaBugs is designed to compliment the Xda-Developers forums. XdaBugs is made with being clear and concise in mind, hence all comments\bugs are moderated and anything posted to the site needs to stay on topic.
So, how do I get started?
First goto: http://xdabugs.vidmes.com
Then, have a look around the site - you can even see bugs and comments without logging in!
A good place to start is the Help\FAQ page. Alternatively, clicking on every link in the sidebar also works...
Once your used to the layout and the site, goto the Register page and sign up
Now start spreading the bugs!! (That sounds like a good slogan... then again...)
Side Note: I'm a Developer, and my ROM is currently on the site, what should I do?
Sign up to the site then PM me on Xda-Developers requesting developer privileges
From there, remember to check on all of your bugs for your ROM, and edit the rom and bugs as you see neccesary
Side Note: I want to help out by being an Admin!
Great! Now go away!
But seriously, if you really want to help, then PM me requesting admin privileges and argue your case. If its decent, I'll grant you privileges.
[?? June] Original Post
The new Xda Bugtracker I have been working on has now been finalised (or at least in a Beta) - so its ready for use!
Just goto http://xdabugs.vidmes.com and check it out
NOTE:
It is still a little buggy, but I'm working on that
It IS NOT a forum - so bugs\comments will be heavily moderated
If you need developer\admin privleges, then PM me
Also PM or email me any bugs that you find
Enjoy!
(Also, all data from the Alpha version's database has been wiped - so you may need to re-register...)

Actually, I added most of the ROMs that are currently there - just to show some examples\get things started
Either way - Enjoy!
A Note to Developers:
You do actually need to edit your bugs and add\remove comments - thats the whole point of a bug tracking system, however I'm still seeing a lot of "unverified" bugs...
There isn't a big contribution to bug tracker.... i don't understand why guys don't participate to that !
is it still on?

New Version! (0.02.7b)
Includes
Minor bug fixes
Bugs now show the date of their latest comment
Date of latest comment is highlighted if it is new (compared to your lst logout)
A reminder for Developers
Please ensure that only your latest version is on the Xda Bugs site
Deprecate old versions (you can do this by editing them)
The site is supposed to be heavily moderated, so remove\edit comments as needed
Remember to update the status of bug (you can do this by editing them)
PM me if you need Developer permissions!
I like the idea of a bug tracker, but i believe i can say why it's not so much used.
1) UI is not intuitive. Bugs must be listed in table format with Title, Rom version, severity, reproducability etc etc in one list, searchable between roms and more.
2) The first thing you're faced with when you go to the site is a login prompt. First page must be the bug list, and you're not asked for login until you want to submit a new bug.
Not trying to all-knowing or anything, just giving constructive suggestions, i can even help out if nobody are up to it.

Was it official release or took rom from this forum? Can you describe clearly meaning of "it does not work or reboot" - are you stuck on any screen, splash? Try to reflash again, first

Fixed.
It was a DNS issue, so it may take a day or two to propogate. Alternatively, you can bring up the "Run" box in windows (Start->Run...) and type in "ipconfig /flushdns" then hit "Ok" - this should clear your DNS Cache

The Ultimate Guide for Choosing a WM6 ROM

This guide is designed to be read by *everyone* - but especially those who are new to ROM flashing\cooking
If you can't be bothered reading my entire post, at least look at the steps.
And if your *really* lazy - just jump to the bottom where I have a link - though I STRONGLY recommend AGAINST doing that...
*Can a Mod please sticky this*
Okay, so the guide:
1. Regsiter for Xda-Developers
Always a good thing...
2. (Part A) Lurk\Read the Xda-Developers forums for at least a month
What????
I know this may sound crazy, but it will benefit you. The purpose of this is so that you learn all the terminology, understand what each ROM does and become knowledgeable enough to be able to decide what to do if something goes wrong.
Make sure you read all the posts, and dig deep into the older threads from this section
2. (Part B) Read the Xda-Developers wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com
Read the entire HTC-Universal from start to end - even if you don't understand it
3. Learn some terminology
By now you should know:
What the Bootloader mode it, and how to get into it
How to 'unbrick' your Universal
How to flash you Universal if your PC is running VIsta
How to unlock the extended rom for your Universal
What the difference between a ROM and a Kitchen is
Who built the first Kitchen for the Universal
And, most important: How to use the search function
(btw - I will update this list as recommended - so keep an eye on it)
4. Read the Wiki (again)
Now that you know some terminology - read the wiki again.
If the wiki mostly makes sense - goto step 5
If the wiki still has some confusing terms goto step 2 (all parts)
5. Prioritise what you need
So, you've spent at least a month reading the forums - and you think your skilled enough to handle flashing your PDA and dealing with it bricking itself.
Now you need to decide which ROMs to try (and yes, that is a plural)
Decide which things you need the most (eg Wifi, MMS, Video Call, etc) and see which ROMs have these things
If you have a number of ROMs to try - goto step 6
If the only ROMs you have in your list are WM5 ones - install them!
6. Set aside a few weekends and test all the editions in your list
This is my main point: no one can tell you which is the best ROM - you just have to try them.
This is why we're Xda-Developers, not Xda-Users - the core of this community is playing and experimenting with our devices.
7. Report bugs to Xda-Bugs
Little do people realise that there is actually a Bug-tracker for the Xda-Developers at: http://xdabugs.vidmes.com
So, if you're smart - you'll take my advice and do the above steps
If you're not smart (but incredibly lazy) then use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308461
Advice for (Senior) Members
When somebody creates a thread that is a n00b question, do the following:
Give them a link to a search (or just the search keywords)
DO NOT KEEP POSTING - Let the thread sink to where it belongs
Disclaimer: Please PM me all flames - leave the forum for praising me
Another great post
Well done m8, another great post from yourself!
It is a shame that the forum is becoming flooded with posts that have been answered so many times before.
Use the search people please!
Leo and I are working on a updated Rom, we should be able to release fairly soon. VC work has been put on the backburner for now so that we can get the Rom out as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Beast
So which ROM is the fastest, working Wifi, video call and least bugs????

Seeing as Midget has a computer now (I presume, since he did say he bought the parts), I thought I may as well resurrect this thread
After using the ROM for a while I have come across 1 problem: Outlook has no profile for MMS, nor anywhere I can set options for MMS
Is this just me or is this a problem?
Thanks

No, I was just sick an tired of the number of threads created where a n00b, as their first post (and thread), says "So many ROMs... which is the best?" and then expects a link and direct answer

Useful plugins,upgrades for Kaiser

Hi all, was wondering if I could enlist your help?
I have an Orange Tytn II and would like some feedback as to what people think is
- the best regeditor
- the best set of useful plugins - including updating to WM6.1
- the best source of skins
for the Tytn II
thank you.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated...

I have an Orange Tytn II and would like to;
- find available plugins which might include - skins and ways to upload, - Change the battery icon to a useful icon of a battery - rather than Orange one
- Change the time that the screen stays on when I'm on a call - so a reg editor
- Maybe upgrade to WM6.1 (without changing Orange menus etc)
Any thoughts would be much appreciated...

All your questions are answered here
And the first topics in first page of the kaiser forum.
I dont want to sound like a ass, but did you look around at all first? All of that is easy to find, well not the upgrade because you will not get that util your service provider comes out with that unless you want a new cooked rom.
Ok..sorry, obviously not clear enough.

NO. Search and read some more before you ask...
Now ya all ganging up on me...
easy isn't it to say "RTFM".... and makes you look so good too...
I bet the Wiki will find you all the answers, and if not, the search will.
But seriously, quoting the post above you, or quoting in a thread with one single topic is almost as annoying...

1) FdcSoft Task Manager
2) You need to Flash your rom to upgrade to 6.1. (so you will lose your orange stuff).
3) Varies on what you like. You will have to search on this, im affraid.
I think it makes you look good too that you don't care enough to do your own legwork. There is more than "hours" of reading here... try DAYS.

Cut through the chaff? Maybe now you can see why there is SOOO much chaff! So yes, it is unreasonable to just start a thread because you don't care to search, try, dig deeper and go for it.
There are skins threads out the butt around here.
A regedit cab? Try PHM RegEdit
Cabs??? What do you call useful? How would WE know what YOU think is useful? There are 1,000's of cabs to install. Are you into photos? Music? GPS? Games? Putty? Contacts? What is it that YOU want?
Find your cabs by searching.... here is a starting point for you:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=c.../forum.xda-developers.com&as_rights=&safe=off
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316183
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=248409
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308773
How many pages shall I find for you? You didn't specify.
If you don't feel like helping yourself, you can start a new thread or reply to this one.
Okay, here is your one free "I'm too lazy to search & read" answer. I personally would've saved it for a "my device is bricked" question, but hey!
I use resco explorer. It is in my opinion the best file explorer & as a bonus it comes with one of the best & friendliest to use registry explorers & editors. Resco also allows you to easily network you computer to your PPC.
I get my full length battery bar, enhcanced scrolling & a much more effective X-button using SPB Pocket Plus. I have deleted the today plug-in portion of the app. so the size is more reasonable. This will also give you multi-tab browsing capability & allow you to use the ok button or X-button to only close one PIE page at a time.
There are tons of theme skins available, but why you would ask about those is beyond me. What's good depends on what you like because they range from plain black to cars to naked women. So, you're on your own there. Start with the "Show us your today screen thread" there are links to tens of thousands of themes there.
Also, get kaiser tweak & the current xml file for it.
WM6.1: If you're not up to flashing yet, you can still add some of the functionality of 6.1 to your stock rom. I suggest getting the PIE6.1 cab file. This will add zoom & overview capability to you current PIE edition. Also take a look at the current Arcsoft 5.0 version. This will add the Voicemail MMS option to MMS text messaging. (as of yet it still won't give you threaded messaging).
A hint for the future. Always search & read first. You can use search, then find a thread & once in the thread there is a search this thread button that will further help you slim down the amount of reading you have to do, it's called "search this thread" & will only return results for the thread you're currently in.
Also use the exclusion feature of advanced search. Highlight the forums that are pertinent to what you're asking. That way you don't get Blue Angel returns for your Kaiser question. I have over three hundred posts. If you look at my posts I don't think I've ever been flamed & I've helped several people with problems even from day one, because maybe I just read an answer that was no help to me, but was exactly what the next guy was looking for. It doesn't pay to be selfish here because everyone has issues, not just you & we've all had to read & work through them. What makes you able to say, hey I deserve an answer without reading (cut through the chaff) when most everyone else has taken the hard path & learned along the way.
Believe me that the reading will pay off in spades. You WILL have MORE problems with your Kaiser. Nature of the beast. I can't tell you how many times I've answered my own question because something I'd read earlier popped back into my mind. Reading will save you time in the long run & helps to keep the boards free of clutter.
That said, good luck with your new Kaiser.
It is just me, or does anyone else receive SPAM email in their personal email accounts?
Hey Grizzz,
Dang man we're opposites! You burn him down then soften the landing, where I like to raise him up then take out the knees! Either way it makes much more sense to do it one of those two ways.
Sure, I know the Noobie needs to have his wrist smacked, but why not do it in a way that ends the thread, like you or I do. Just reprimanding the kiddie does nothing but waste space. So help a Noobie out, take him under your wing & show him how things are done. Don't just reprimand him.
Maybe somew of the +1000 post old timers used to be like us too? Could they have become callus to where they came from? Except of course peep's like cmonex, Jockey, Dutty, Meinyysis, Olipro (I think they were all spawn with a pda in there hand & I heard that Oli's middle name was CE, lol...
You are right. But in the "old" days - AKA Hermes Forum one year ago FLAMING was hard and cruel . A noooob got FLAMED if he had not done his homework - and I find it was actually OK.
I remember reading for DAYS to find out how to FLASH, and IF I had any questions - I asked in a PM or in the specific thread....
I remember a long discussion about having limits for newies so they could not write in the Forum for some time after they joined to make sure they used some time reading before asking the same questions again and again...

Yeah, I remember lurking in Hermes afraid to ask. I once even PM'd Meinyysis & bit my nails for days hoping that the response wouldn't be "Go Die". Not that he'd ever do anything like that, but Hermes forum was brutal at times.
I dont understand why people are hesitating to help instead enjoy having the attitude and reply harsh. If a thread is unnecessary, then the moderator can lock the thread.
This person was looking for some openion. He is not asking how to install something.
1) If you dont want to reply, ignore the post
2) If you care this site and feel the thread is unnecessary, PM mod and ask him to lock the thread
3) To control these kinds of thread and you really get annoyed to answer question which you asked when you were actually a newbee, try to organize this site. Evaluate the members before they join.
One smart person gave the link for search. What an attitude. I am not sure what he is thinking about himself. I seriously hate the attitude of some people here.
MartinH - Please dont feel that all the posts are directed to you.

In newbie's defense...
I haven't asked any questions and I search the threads and wiki's, but I have to say that this forum is not the easiest thing to find anything in because every thread is packed full of non sense that has nothing to do with the topic. The guy simply asked if there was a way to find plugins and such.
Give the guy a break and just send him a link . I wish there was a better search engine on this forum, but there isn't so I continue to read...and read and read...

vBulletin has a bad search function itself. However there's a advance google search that correctly search the site,
i have the tytn ii and am very new to it
im looking to put message/alert tones on but dont know where to put them..
ive got a few good alerts that id like to put there....ie. new email/message that sort of stuff
please could someone show me the way to go on
thanks in advance
I am a member of various forums, and mod two with more members than this forum. Here's my thoughts;
This forum is full of useful info, but it's also buried amongst huge piles of crap and spam
1) vBulletin software sucks...try IP.B
2) If you feel the urge to reply, reply with something useful
3) If you feel the thread is a waste of time don't add your spam to it. It makes you look more of an arse than the poster; Martinhdk and we3zy
4) Post counts mean nothing, see point 3)
for the persons who actually added useful info to this thread, then thank you, you know who you are.
To the Mods..I've copy and pasted the useful info, so by all means delete this thread, as no one found it useful but me... and save this forum getting more cluttered.
