Windows Mobile Team Blog - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I don't know if any one saw this on the Windows Mobile Team Blog but this was interesting.
"Windows Mobile 6 continued to use the 5500 for a while but switched to its replacement, the HTC SDA (Tornado). We also used the HTC MDA (Wizard). At the tail end, we got some HTC Dashes in. In all of these cases, we didn’t have access to any of the source code. An HTC engineer made changes for us."

I never knew this blog existed. Thanks ! Now I know I am running illicit software

So are the new ROMs peing posted at the moment based on this or still being derived from other sources ?
Looks like there is plenty of life left in the phone yet. Though I'm starting to lean towards getting myself a Nokia E90. Does not have the enthusiastic Dev base that WM has though...

Windows Mobile 6 Professional for I-mate Jasjar or Qtek 9000
I called sales for On The Go Solutions, Inc., www.onthegosolutions.com website, Ph. # 1-866-746-4684 out of Skokie, IL and the sales person told me that H.T.C out of Taiwan released the "Windows Mobile 6 Professional" for the I-mate Jasjar & Qtek 9000 1 month ago. If somebody out there could get this download that would be greatly appreciated and share this with us. Or if someone is interested in purchasing either device the onthegosolutions technical support upgrades this device for you with Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional and they will also give you the download link which you can pass onto all the xda-developers members.
I just checked the club imate download web site, and they post the old Windows Mobile 5 AKU 2 for i-mate Jasjar.
Wow.. I'm wondering which web site we can download the official WM6 ROM for i-mate Jasjar.
There is indeed not a download link, I just send a e-mail I-mate, to verify this information, I'll hope I get a response soon, because I'm sure to use my device even longer.
I reveived the basic mail back with a automized awnser,
"With regards to your query please note, that i-mate is progressing plans to make WM 6.0 upgrade available on as many of its devices as possible. We are investigating the possibilities with our product suppliers and Microsoft at this time, and we will be in a position to clarify the situation by the end of this month. Please bear with us while we investigate what is possible and keep a close eye on the www.clubimate.com website for further news and updates."
So it is the basic delay to do it on the "next" monday and the same awnser I have been reading troughout different forums and topics
Wrong..Absolutely wrong........
I just had a chat with clubimate representative..which is as follows...

I wonder how true this report is...???
Can you imagine if someone actually buys a Universal from them and they end up sending a link to one of the customized ROMs from XDA Developers site?
...
Update regarding the Windows Mobile 6 for the I-mate Jasjar & Qtek 9000. I called and spoke with Dovid from technical support at the On The Go Solutions Store and he informed me that the "Windows Mobile 6 is from Jwrightmcps cooked rom" which is not the official rom released from H.T.C from Tawian. According to the polls comparing to the other cooked roms Jason's rom is the top rom at this time. So this is where the www.onthegosolutions or www.imatephonestore is getting their rom from Jason out of Chicago, IL. and advertising this on their website.

Just as I thought, A SCAM TO MAKE PEOPLE BUY THEIR PRODUCT.
I wonder if JWright know about this???
According to Dovid technical support person at the On The Go Solutions or I-matephone store Jason does know about this which when I spoke to Dovid technical support said that Jason is submitting his cooked rom to them which in my opinion is false advertising. When I first had called yesterday the lady I spoke to in sales first told me that the "Windows Mobile 6 Professional" for the I-mate Jasjar & Qtek 9000 was a release from H.T.C out of Taiwan which was a 1 month ago. Then when she called me later in the day on Friday she told me that this was incorrect information and switched me over to Dovid which I had questioned him that I was a xda-developers member and if this was possibly a cooked rom because there are 5 or 6 other xda-developer members cooking up cooked roms. This information as to my understanding is 100% correct information. I also called T-Mobile my service provider for my Qtek 9000 and told technical support that they need to contact H.T.C out of Taiwan once Windows Mobile 6 Professional is available for the Qtek 9000 and contact me once they have this. I also told T-Mobile technical support that if they receive enough calls from their customers requesting the "Windows Mobile 6 Professional' upgrade once available H.T.C will then request this for T-Mobile and not give this to any other person that has a Qtek 9000, I-mate Jasjar, etc or similar device branded by H.T.C

I'm afraid not, its a phone. Usual lifespan of a phone is about a year to 18 months, the jasjar/mda-pro/universal has already lasted much longer than most.
A phone, how dear you sir... its a pocket PC, tell me which phone can do all the functionality of Jas jar.
Pocket Pc are a mini laptop.
This does not remove the responsibility of IMATE/HTC to put out a OS update for WM6.

I can't agree more!
We invest lots of money on a PDA an the brands don't want to support their customers after a single year.
Not all universal owners bought their PDA at it's lunching...
wm6 for universal
Hi
to all you people who doubt whether the wm6 is official or not:
1.wm6 is 'official'
2.you people are asking for software support from the vendors who are only capable of etching their logo on a finished product.
3.there are different ROM versions and all are cooked because no hardware vendors have officially launched it yet.
4.All you members are familiar with 'search engines',use one, find wm6,or go to microsoft.com and you will be enlightened.
5.I am using wm6 on my o2 exec with a 4 GB SD,everything is flawless and HTML mail support is just superb.
" NO REPEATEDLY BUSTED 4GB CARD( THRICE)SHOULDN'T HAVE SPKEN TOO EARLY."
So stop this demand to have an official ROM from o2 or i-mate, for nobody demanded a wm5 official rom for a wm2003 BA?

Is *XDA* a valid generic term?

Hey all,
Just a quick question for members of this community - I'm in the process of setting up a news resource site focusing on windows mobile devices and wanted to get some feedback on the usage of the term 'XDA'.
It seems that, for the most part, this community has accepted XDA as a generic term for a mobile device which runs the Windows Mobile OS (feel free to correct me if I've misinterpreted).
Personally I prefer the look of XDA over PPC or WMD but before I go and purchase a domain I just wanted to put my ear to the ground and see what people (in the know) think.
Thanks,
~ elroy
In my opinion the term XDA is mostly known by enthusiasts who know the roots of the device. If you were to start a website I would use a term that is more common to people who are new to this area such as PPC, WM, or even a brand name such as this site has done. This would help improve the traffic of your site for sure.

Personally, I would keep looking for a name. XDA is just the branding O2 uses for their PPCs and Smartphones. XDA is in the name of this site just because the XDAs were what the "founders" had gotten their hands on first to work on their encryption projects.
For the most part, members here refer to their devices by their HTC codenames. I haven't really seen anyone call their device an XDA.
I see what you mean though. I believe you might think that XDA is as generic for the PPC as Xerox is for the copier, but it really isn't. In my opinion, most people (even including the bulk of the members here) would just be confused by the terminology.
Just a thought. Good luck!
Thanks guys.
I'm leaning towards PPC (based on your feedback) at this point.
~ elroy
In case anyone is interested I've finally gotten the site *kinda* the way I want it. I still need to work on some of the code (my php skills suck, and that's being kind).
Anyway - on the advice given (above) I went with PPC in the title over XDA... and end up with:
http://www.PPCmine.com
The site is meant to be a resource for bloggers and people who run sites and are looking for links to up to date stuff on a specific subject (in this can PPCs)... or for people, like me, who are complete news junkies.
Feed back is most welcome.
~ elroy
xda is wallaby
I was also thinking about this few times...
Choosing the right domain name depends also on habits of people you are targeting. IMO if you target worldwide, PPC is the most culturally neutral and everybody interested into this kind of devices will find that.
In Czech Republic, the most commonly used term for HTC and similar devices is "MDA" - just because firts wallaby here was called MDA by t-mobile (previously paegas). Even who is not interested into PPC technology will understand MDA term and will know what RU speaking about.
Try to perform search how people think about our devices in a country you are targeting - and you will have the right name. Remember - people should understand name and they will come. If they cannot imagine what is hidden under "WMD" or such term (not used here in CZ, seen this for the first time here), they will simply miss your page...

Windows Mobile 7 Is Coming.

I was searching on the internet for the code name for windows xp (whistler) becose i must check this out for school.
but searching and searching i found this list ---> Klik
In the windows CE list is added -->
Photon
Windows Mobile 7.0
Major update to the platform, merging Smartphone and Pocket PC. Expected in Q4 2007. [2] (based on Windows CE 6.0) .
If windows mobile 7.0 has a codename (photon) then microsoft is building this software
Greats
Antonius
No... And I thought M$ was lazy with development in Windows Mobile.
yeah CE6 have been out for a long time
so it's only natrual that ms's developers
are making a windows mobile based on it
though i would not count on dates of releases
from wiki everybody can post that
dont need to be officialy or insider ms sources who do
OK Zephus
Code:
zephus No... And I thought M$ was lazy with development in Windows Mobile.
hahah you think ms is lazy LOL i think you are crazy i even have windows mobile 6 Embedded from microsoft .
but if you search more then you notice that microsoft is building a lot of programes and tools.
Greats antonius
Yeah, that's definitely an obsolete target date. The last time Photon was in the news was more than 6 months ago.
From its inception, it had always been rumored to have been a significant shift in user experience heavily featuring iPhone-like "gestures", but I'm guessing it was only that way because of spies stealing Apple's intel (and vice-versa). I mean hey, if WM7 was truly on the verge of being released, don't you think they would have informed HTC of this when they were developing their iPhone-like TouchFLO interface?
My take on the whole matter is they most likely had an internal target date set, but once the iPhone came out, they pushed the date back a ways to make sure it trumps the iPhone when released. I'd peg WM7 as a summer 2008 RTM, with *maybe* holiday season '08 as when you'll start to see devices released with it installed.
made it to the news a while ago....mainly because no one could understand how stupid the marketing team could be that was naming these OS versions. Windows Mobile 6 comes out but its the same Windows CE5 as Windows Mobille 5. Now Windows Mobile 7 is based on Windows CE6...anyone else wish they could get rid of the genius who developed this naming scheme other than me....
I know I can't be the only one that gets annoyed of by this
I think a naming issue is the least of the Windows Mobile development teams worries...and quite frankly they can call it whatever they want id prefer Microsoft gave the WM development division the funds, research or ppl necessary to realise they have powerful devices here and its about time the WM platform evolved to meet the convergence in these devices and take advantage of their capabilities and technology.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Mobile#Future_versions
Half '08!
just like vista - viana
like what they gonna do with windows vista to windows viena.
they say its honna be just a update and not a hole windows so you buy win vista and then you must install viena update.
i heard that in the news in the dutch from the eu
At&t treo 750
Maybe this is why they are holding on the WM5 upgrade?
windows-mobile-7-details-leaked
http://gizmodo.com/341287/windows-mobile-7-details-leaked-+-multi+touch-motion-gestures
God 2009 - at least we know there will be a new OS not for our current devices but for future ones
but again who knows we might end up with windows 6.5 or 6.6 or 6.x
an alternative will be lots of updates
great news - thanks to the author
well MS better hurry up and improve WM to compete with Androids. Steve Ballmer was talking trash about Androids but I think WM6 still have too many probs, and google doesnt make mistake w/ their products
More WM7 stuff here.
but ther is no wm7 for xda :crying::crying:
How do you even find a thread that is 4 years old on xda? :what:
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk 2
yuck
white i like the sound of having desktop applications on phone windows on arm would suck. they need to use intel x64 processors.
and also the fact its not open source
Ok 2008 will be laid to rest...Thank You & Thread Closed.

Windows Mobile 7 screenshots and details - leaked

In February 2008, during Mobile World Congress 2008 (a global event for professionals, not consumers), Microsoft will unveil publicly Windows Mobile 6.1 that is a minor upgrade to current Windows Mobile 6.
However the really big deal will be Windows Mobile 7. The first phones with Windows Mobile 7 will go on sale in 2009 but already now you can learn (almost) everything about it (including hint that it will support multi-touch!)

Multi-touch is just a name. The technology has been around a long time, and MS even has an implementation in Microsoft Surface.

I heard rumours(read some article on the net) about multitouch technology that it was a company in Finland who first came up with it, but after 6 months it just was developing "dead spots" on the screen, so they dropped the project. And now Apple "bought" it from them... I say once again Rumours.?
Thats it. Im keeping my WM5 device until further notice. I can survive off extracted WM6 apps until then....
this is from Apple insider about "dead spots" http://www.appleinsider.com/article...essing_dead_spots_on_iphone_touchscreens.html

How nice of the blog to spill Microsoft's new and secret ideas for all the competitors out there
Anyone want to bet that NONE of our devices will support it? I mean, if our devices supported it, we wouldn't have to go out and buy all new ones, and MS wouldn't make any money off the licensing fees from OEMs like HTC. No, making Windows Mobile 7 backwards compatible with phones like the Tilt would just make too much sense and be far too consumer friendly.

Now.. to be realistic, out of all the phones that are being sold with windows mobile how many do you think end up reflashed? I am willing to bet that it is quite a small percentage in the end. Most people don't want to get down and dirty with their phones, especially when they've already paid £400-£500 for it.

WM is one of the few platforms where they would even consider giving updates. Even Symbian and Palm don't. Even on a computer they don't give Vista because we have XP.
As long as it runs compatible hardware, I wouldn't be surprised if develops here find a way to get it working. There's also always test builds on older devices. And it's still a long time before this is going to be released. It doesn't exactly make sense to purposely produce versions for hardware that could be old.
In short, we'll just have to see. There's no point making that speculation.
From the look of it (especially the fonts that have too much quality), the images are just mockups.
And given the Vista example, I bet it will look a lot worse when shipped than what we are seeing in these concepts.
Still, it's nice to see them and them evaluate how much work it takes to implement something that takes just a few days to design in Photoshop.
Can the Betas be far behind ?
Yeah, let's bring the battle to the fruitsuckers!
Some of the stuff looks similar to Pointui.

Windows Mobile 6.0 on i-Mate SPL Available.

Hi Friends,
I have been following very closely the i-mate SPL for the past few days. I am quite a bit fascinated by the features that this phone offers for the size of the phone.
But after reading a few reviews, I came to know about the problems some of the freinds who already possess this great looking phone face.
Also, it is mentioned somewhere that these problems might go if there is an upgrade to the o/s from Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6.0
On doing a research over the internet, I landed to one site which is selling this phone with the Windows Mobile 6.0 version.
You can follow this link to see it for yourself:
http://www.sourcinggate.com/product_info.php?products_id=1309
Now, the only concern is that whether this Phone, which is provided with Windows Mobile 6.0 is actually released by i-Mate or is this solely done by the guy who is selling this phone.
I have inquired about this from the guy who is selling but have still not got any reply from him.
And as usual, nothing from the i-Mate Guys.
If any one of you geeks come across that would help me buy this phone or decide against it would be highly appreciable.
Thanks.
Saabir
