Hi
I'm trying to get my htc touch pro on the school's wifi network. It is such that i have to login with my own details when accessing it on my laptop, and also have to connect through a proxy controlled by the school. I can connect to the network, and input my own login user/pass but i then need to enter a domain, i then need somewhere to input the port which the network uses, where do i do this??? I have to enter proxy info into the browsr on my laptop if it helps.
cheers
please?
the info i need to enter is the following :
My own login/pass/domain (this i input straight after connecting to the network, no problems here)
Proxy information. on my laptop i input this in the connections settings of my browser, under "Lan settings" tab, this is just the proxy port and domain. Where do i put this in my touch pro's settings please?
Settings > Connections Tab > Connections Icon > Advanced Tab > Select Networks Button.
Then press the edit button under "My Work Network" then go to the Proxy Settings Tab and enter your info.
You need to make sure your WiFi network is set to "Work" and not "internet"
You should be able to connect after that.
Let me know how you get on.
By doing this will I be able to connect to MSN Messenger, Skype etc.?

If you schools proxy network allows you to do so.
Well I can connect to above mentioned using my laptop but I just can seem to do it on my HTC Touch Pro. Any idea why?
I work at a private school as an assistant IT and we do not allow phones on the network. That is probably why as most people don't want rogue devices on their network.
Fair enough, thanks for the info guys.
hi
is there some way to make phone asking me before connect to internet with mobile network ? (not wifi, bt, activesync) ...
example: im connected to net throught wifi ,browsing with opera but when connection is lost - phone automatically switch to edge/gprs - and i have no pre-paid data tarif , sou money runs out...
Same question
Yes, can anyone help with this one. For example, even if i'm connected to a wifi network and using the internet in opera, if I update the weather or send/receive my emails it will automatically connect to the mobile internet and download using this instead of the wireless.
The only thing I found was to turn the phone off (in comm manager, select phone to off), which forces it to download data using the wifi.
Can anybody help?
problem that you describe is not exactly what is my problem ,if i have established connection with wifi - internet is automatically go throught it,
maybe ....,have you got "The Internet" in preferences of your AP in settings > connections > Wireless lan > $essid (or under menu > edit ) ? (and you must be connected before you start using internet - opera ,updating or etc , thats for sure this will not automatically turn on and connect thrue wifi )
my question si only about "ask me before i will establish connection to the mobile internet network"
why not use NoData, you can shut down the data connection...
you mean create an empty profile in conections ? yes , sure , this working, i have it but sometime i want use this , so i must go to settings and switch to working profile and ..... its annoying, is there any other way ? in windows stile you know , "are you sure with blahblahblah" - my old W850i have this function ,every application which would like to connect run dialog "can this application connect to internet ?" and i can choose "permanently" or "ask me every time" ...somethink like this
No, I mean using a program called Nodata. I presume you are using GSM/Edge/3G data only when absolutely needed, and this program gives you the option to easily shut down any GSM related data connection (Edges, GPRS, etc)..
Check http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
thanks ! - this help ,not for whole idea , but make thinks more easily

Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections
Under the Advanced tab, click on Select Networks. At there you can select which network you want to automatically connect to the internet with.
Its easy

Hello everybody,
I'm trying to get on the internet with my Axim x51v.
And I'm using my Touch Cruise as BT PAN access point (using the Internet sharing option).
I've installer the widcomm bluetooth stack on my x51v, because the Microsoft stack cannot connect to a PAN.
Settings up the PAN connection works perfectly, the x51v even got his IP from the Cruise his DHCP.
But... when I'm trying to browse to a website, it goes wrong
Internet Explorer on the x51v gives the message: "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again."
I also installed a network sniffer on the Cruise to check which data is send.
This sniffer views the DHCP request, no problem there.
But when I request a website, there are some ARP requests and responses.
AND... there are to packet who look like DNS requests to me, but there source address is the x51v's MAC address and th destination is the Cruise, and there's never a response.
So... I tried to connect to a website by IP instead of hostname, to check if this is a DNS problem, but without any luck
But there is a difference, the sniffer now only shows the ARP requests and responses and Internet Explorer gives a different message: "The page cannot be displayed or donwloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later."
Sorry for the long story... I hope someone can help me with this problem
Or point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance
did you try working with something other than the x51v?
btw, if you want to save yourself the headache, purchase WMWifiRouter..
I also tested this with my PC and Cruise and it worked perfectly. I was able to access the internet through the Cruise.
Forgot to mention that I did try WMWifiRouter, but got the same problem.
edit:
Maybe its usefull to know that the x51v is running WM6.1 (from Football) and the Cruise is running the official WM6.1 ROM from HTC.
Maybe someone knows another way to access the internet on the x51v through the Cruise.
I did also try the Wifi to 3G option from WMWifiRouter. At first the connection was to unstable to browse, but this problem seems to be solved by holding the Cruise further away from the x51v . But with a distance of almost 3 meters the connection still isn't stable enough, it reconnect about every minute.
And I think a distance of 3 meters between the two devices is to much.
Would it be possible to share the Cruise his internet connection over USB?
My idea is to do this using this CF USB card for the x51v.
if the polaris can read your device as a regular syncing device (like a pc or so) there's no reason why WMWifirouter won't pass your Polaris' 3G or Wifi connection to USB connection on your x51v.
I found another solution!
I (re)enabled DUN on the Cruise (throught the registry) and let the x51v dail in on the Cruise.
At first it wouldn't work, but after some messing with some settings it finally worked!
Thanks for your replies Nir36.
ahh. congrats. and a good idea it is.
if you don't mind, write the exact steps of what you did so i can put it in the GUIDES thread in the Q&A section.
Ok, here's what I did.
First to Enable DUN, which was removed since the introduction of internet sharing. (On the Cruise)

The easiest and simplest way to connect to internet from your laptop using your android phone:
In your android smart phone, go to Settings -> Wireless and Network Settings -> Mobile networks and select the “Use packet data” option. Also uncheck the “Use only 2G Networks” option
Again go to Settings ->Wireless and Network Settings->Tethering and portable hotspots
Select the second option “Mobile AP”. You should see a blue wifi icon in your cellphone notification bar
Go to your laptop, IPad or any device which supports WiFi, search for available wireless networks and select “Android AP” option.
You are now connected to the internet. Just open a browser and start browsing.
Also you can connect using the USB.

You might want to change the title of the thread to:
[How To] Use phone as mobile modem
Or something to that extent. As it is, it seems like it is a question thread and you are needing help in figuring out how to do this.
Also some carrier subsidized phones don't have this option. So you can suggest using an app like Android Wireless Tether For Root Users.
Arrow How to use your android mobile phone as a modem?Arrow
There are 2 methods to use android phone as a modem:
first is to use your android as WiFi Router and
Second is to Connect using USB cable (USB Tethering)
is this post really correct?
i think that the wifi steps you are talking about isn’t about using "your phone as a mobile" but as a wi-fi hotspot that is different.
wi-fi hotspot is sharing the data connection of the mobile device (via WiFi)
tethering is using the phone as a modem, not only sharing its data connection.
or am i wrong?
Use your phone as a modem via usb or bluetooth
you can see detail on this website as1formatik.blogspot.com
you can translate with google translate if you don't speak french:good:
There are also two options:
1. Open your bluetooth on your phone and your pc or laptop, pair them.
2. On your pc or lt open network connection, select setup a new conection, from connection option, select setup a dial up connection, then enter your information there entering *999***1# dial up phone number.
3. Select connect. It will save the connections aitomaticallu.
2nd option is
1. Connect your phone via usb cable. Then follow the step from 2 to 3 of the first option
Hope this help yoi.
