MSN Messenger for WM6 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

does anyone have a msn messenger for wm6 that works with GPRS, because live messenger always syncs contacts with contact list and if my friends want to sign on their contacts will get joined with mine, which i dont want. Also if it would be able to work with T-mobile US GPRS without having to pay for a plan like Pocket MSN did with WM6 that would be great.

Have you tried Windows Live Messenger ? It works with all your MSN contacts in WM6. It is available in Faria's real thing WM6 ROM, amongst others.

I'm not sure what you mean about the contacts, but the newer version of windows live messenger gives you the option to merge contacts with outlook or not to if you don't want it to do that. I use it just fine on the $5.99 t-zones plan, weather or not you can still get free internet without any data plan I am not sure of but that's something that had the same limitations as t-zones and it's not something to rely on always being there

use im+. Hope this helps

Dude this is not a warez site....IM+ is an commercially available messenger program....you cant post that here unless its an trial version without pre-patched\cracked.

where can i set it?
thx. just didnĀ“t use it much.

No i mean, when i sign into windows live messenger it says i ave to sync my countacts with my messenger contacts. Thats why i want one without that. Pocket MSN on WM5 did not force you to sync contacts, and worked without a T-mobile data plan, as does OZ IM. is there something like that for WM6, or maybe even just the whole pocket MSN for wm6.

IM logging?

Was just wondering what are the various IM clients out there? Currently I'm using MSN messenger, and tried cooking imov into the rom (but it didn't work...).
I currently leave my MSN messenger logged in, occassionally, messages would come in but I might have missed them. Answering an incoming call cuts off the GPRS connection, and all the open MSN chats close too - as a result, those messages are gone. =(
I'm actually looking for an instant messenger client (MSN and/or ICQ) that would allow me to log chats automatically. Recommendations anyone?
Imov is good but it doesn't work if it is part of a cooked ROM ... another better client is AgileMessenger [freeware] which has direct connection to the 4 IMs without the need for a Jabber server
I use agile, and it seems to be good. The only problem is as mentioned above is if you get a call you loose your gprs connection. Otherwise it seems to work good.

I believe this is a limitation of GPRS rather than Agile. Been looking at it and it does look good - at least, unlike MSN messenger, unread messages don't get lost when the GRPS disconnects. I guess thats nice, but I'd really like something that would keep logs as well... hmm. The 'autostart' that MSN messenger has when an internet connection is detected is interesting too.
Any other popular IM clients out there?

NO Windows Live Messenger contacts in my phonebook!

I am looking for an solution to use windows live messenger on the great XDA Mobile 6 (XM6)-rom without adding my contacts to the phone address book.
Doesn't anyone know a solution?
maybe a registery hack or something...
NB I have seen many topics... but still no solution...

Thats pretty easy .. when you sign into windows live tell it NOT TO SYNCH MESSENGER AND CONTACTS.

Well, when I start Messenger, and press "Sign in", I get the message "Signing in to Messenger will add your Windows Live contacts to you phone's address book. Do you wish to continue?"
There are only 2 options, OK or cancel. When you press cancel you can't login.
So there must be another solution.
you must sync your contacts to use windows messenger. In the newer version of windows live, there is an option to not merge duplicates with outlook, but you still must sync them.
This is according to the help file included with messenger.
still no solutions yet?
not that I am away of. this is the most stupid feature ever. I went and deleted them in my contacts but had no idea it would also delete them off my messenger list as well! I was so pissed, i lost everybody...a lot that I don't talk to very often but like to have them on there. no way I can remember their address...

KKK i do the same ****! now i have only half of my contacts.
the unic solution is dont use the live messenger...use some other app like IM+
after installing xda 6, when i signed in to live i only selected the option for email, my msn list never got synced with the contacts list... this was a horrible feature for live and i thought great now they fixed it... i think they are still trying to "iron" out live.... oh i forgot it is a microsoft product...

Thanks, but when i sign into messenger it still asks if i want to sync, and the only option is yes. Any ideas?
mmm if you want to sign in to the msn messenger, use live messenger app shorcut instead the live shorcut on the start menu
hmmm just tried that, it still asks to sync contacts when i try to sign in. Im wondering if there is a way to disable it.
i'm after a way to do this too - seems that any which way you try to use it, it always tries to 'dump' your msn contact list into your address book
i tried other IM programs such as IM+ but none look as good as msn live just yet...

I feel the same way, ive been trying aswell but like you said it always tries to bring the contact list in. But i am sure there is a way around it.
anyone know of any *other* good IM apps we can try instead?
seems like this is a problem for alot of other users aswell, the interface is sweet but the only problem is this stupid contact sync. I really dont want to install another messaging client
well just for the record, i'm trialling 'Agile Messenger'....would prefer to have the integrated Windows Live Messenger though....
agile messenger i dont mind but like you said you cant beat the live interface. Plus isnt Aglie $20?

Thanks Menneisyys - going to check it now.
I'm really hoping I may find a pearl of wisdom in your reviews such as how to stop Windows Live syncing our contacts!

Unfortunately, currently, it's not possible. However, a new might be WLM coming very soon (I can't tell you more because of the strict rules concerning my MS MVP status.)
how about starting to develop our own IM client for WM6.
anybody interest?

i wouldent mind, but i think ill just wait for the winodws live fix
Do this
with your "regular" phone book on the phone, use PIM Backup to make a backup
run messenger live (it will sync contacts, don't worry about it)
go on msn messenger, options, turn off all contact syncing
exit messenger
run PIM Backup and restore all, there will be an option to erase phonebook before restoring, do that
DONE
MSN won't sync your contacs, no MSN contacts in your phonebook =)

DO NOT DO THAT. I REPEAT. DO NOT TRY IT
I just did and after I restored all my contacts from PIM backup and I tried to
sign on msn again it deleted all of my MSN contacts.
Now the only contacts I have on my MSN list are those that were originally in my contact list.
Does anybody know how I can restore my MSN contacts?????
yikes! i cant believe this is such a big problem!

Can anyone make Pocket MSN cab ?

I just lost 80 people off my list!
Stay away from it at all costs! damn stupid idiots at M$!!!
All i did was logon and when i logged on the PC i see 80 people missing!!
Please if you have a CAB file for Pocket MSN that comes from T-Mobile SDA for Installation, ill be VERY gratefull!!
Here's Windows Live Messenger for WM5/6. If you mean the MSN Messenger application included in WM5 ROM then it's already in your phone as part of the operating system. Check the windows folder for the executable...
@NiTroGenious, dear god NO! i do NOT want Live Messenger! it just cost me 80 people off my list! its horrible! all that contact syncing disaster!
I want MSN Messenger and yes i know it comes with WM5, but i put WM6 and it does not come with it, That is why i asked if someone has or can make a CAB for installing it. Since i couldn't find it anywhere on the net
Sorry for the misunderstanding. Anyway, if you don't want the "Windows Live! features", why don't you try an alternative MSN client, such as IM+?
Windows Live! features, killed 80 people off my MSN list
IM+ and the rest of the others, cost money. And MSN Messenger on the SDA is all ill need if i can port it to WM6 from the WM5.
Thank you for trying
if you used WM6 Perfect Edition, try to use IE, I add an Windows Messenger Mobile in IE favorite, it is a wap version, it works well when you only need text chat.
@andot, i did not see it, propably cause when i synced the mobile, my favorites replaced the ones you provided
I still prefer an independed solution, is there no way to integrate instmsgr from the WM5 rom?
PS: Just wanna say awesome job on WM6 andot! seriously! brought new life to my mobile!
PS2: I Just found the PERFECT solution! FREEWARE and can logon to: Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and GoogleTalk!!!
I am shocked no one told me about it before, check it out - http://www.octro.com/index.php
PS3: Here's another free one which also gives you SIP! http://www.fring.com/download

There is this one from Nitrogen HERE DownloadPocketMSN_wm5_by_nitrogen You probably know him
Also do a search for "Install_Pocket_MSN.exe" there are a few cabs around. I downloaded it and it installed fine for me. All though, I just can't get MSN to work...
And finally, as an alternate try: www.palringo.com Its what I'm using now, free, pretty flexible, still in development. So far works great for me. Audible sounds with every message you recieve, can log into multiple acounts, multiple PM's, can use on Desktop, can send voice and picture messages... try it out, Not bad at all, and it qualifies for your FREE request Good Luck mate.
@Nitrogen: Good to see you around mate!

Live Messenger and Hotmail direct push

Did AT&T remove the direct push for Hotmail, as well as removing the normal messenger?
Is there a way to add that to the Tilt without flashing the whole thing to the HTC rom? If so please let me know...
You guys are awesome!!
I had the same problem + Remote desktop missing with the Vodafone v1615.
Check out this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328392
I'm now up and running with Windows Live syncing nicely, and Messenger working fine!!
Windows Live
Here is the cab file to install MSN and Windows Live support in WM6
Awesome
Thanks a bunch!!
Does anyone know if the original windows messenger here charges text messages or data usage to use? I believe the AT&T version is text messages, hoping this one is data.
Thanks
this one is definitely data. I don't know of any Pocket PC messenger that charged per text, though I know the original messenger was also data (and practically useless.)
