i flashed my jamin with this rom, everything is great but one thing is not functioning as it should..i go into text messages and i press new, a new blank text message opens...it shows below is 0/160 as usual, after the first character i write it becomes 1/70 and then i am limited to 70 characters :S
any solution for that? i can't seem to find any
thanks in advance

What did you already try?
Have you tried a hard reset? Sometimes it's necessary to give a hard reset after the flashing part
Yes i already did a hard reset right after the flash and another hard reset a day after that..still no success

Have you tried to disable Unicode Usage option (not sure this is the exact name)? Open your SMS inbox, then Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Text Messages. Then uncheck the Unicode stuff.
Great that did it thanks for the help...you guys are the best

That's strange... ..I know the "problem" with the Unicode. But it manifests in messages with only a few characters being send as two messages. Not with reducing the amount of available characters

Actually, from what I've experienced, there are two Unicode problems. The first is getting only 70 chars when starting a new message. The second arises when using punctuated characters (ãéùç«, etc.) which lowers the limit from 160 to 70 chars. From what you've told, the phone says only a message will be sent and then two messages are sent?

This is probably the reason that some European providers added a "Unicode-Off" CAB to theis ext. ROM

I think he meant "characters", not "messages".
In unicode, each character is coded using 2 bytes (instead of 1), and I guess an additional header is required, thus explaining we get only 70chars., and not 80 as we would expect.

I tried a few of the ROMs here on my Tilt already. I noticed on a couple of them that the sending size for the MMS was set at the old 300Kb limit. I often send stuff that is right at the 600Kb limit and want to keep that limit.
I noticed on a few of the cooked ROMs the limit was 300Kb, and I couldn't figure out a way to change it, even going through configuration and settings.
So, my questions are as follows (and, yes I did search)-
Is there a way to change it that I'm just not seeing (short of maybe a regedit?)?
What ROM are you running, and what is your sending limit? (this is the one I came up with no answer at all for when searching)
Could this have to do with a particular MMS install .cab file? (similarly I didn't see an answer for this one. Lots of cab links, but no specs on the limit)
Thanks!
EDIT: Dangit, I put this in the wrong forum. I meant to put it in the Kaiser forum.

By "short of a regedit" do you mean you DON'T want to edit the registry? You may find a cab for ARCSoft or whatever MMS client you're using that has the larger sending size limit. But it would probably be quicker to just change it manually by editing the registry. Check this post for the Hermes, most likely it will work on the Kaiser also.

@over2land: I have been wondering about this also!
@hotmail: Thanks for your reply - I changed registry items per your post in the Hermes thread and now have 600 limit. I didn't find any registry keys with title of Wap1SendLimit_x - so I just changed the SendLimit keys, and also changed the ReceiveLimit keys, and Voila! good to go!

If regedit is the only way to do it, I'll do that. Right now I'm back on the ATT OE ROM and radio, since I'm on ATT, it works for me. I get the 600Kb limit. But, the cooked ROMs are typically faster and have more storage, so at some point I'll end up going back to a cooked ROM.
I was hoping that there was some setting going through the phone's UI that I could change. Even though I've regedited every phone I've had, I'm not 100% on regediting this one just yet.
I am using ARCsoft... I was hoping to avoid having to DL every .cab I can find for that limit. I was figuring if people posted their cabs or thier ROMs with the 600Kb limit, then someone like myself who didn't want to necessarily reg edit the phone would have some recourse.
I think I have a cab that's got the 600k mod in it. if you want it, let me know.

I'm guessing the 3mb limit does not apply to AT&T's network? Or do they support a 3mb file going out?

Not sure about ATT but I installed this cab and went into the MMS settings and changed the limit to 3mb but I've only sent out a 1mb file or so over the Tmobile network. Works good

i got my vox a month ago and i love the design. probably the only smartphone design out there that looks as good as it does. But the problem i'm having with it is the performance level...i've had it lock up on me, sometimes it takes forever to load a simple task such as my text messages. I love the phone design to death, is there a phone that keeps this slick design but performs just as well? I know htc released a s730, but really? lol come on, its bigger, contains the same amount of ram, faster processor but still...
Or is it time i move to a pocket pc? do they perform better than smartphones? Or am i looking at this entirely from the wrong view, is it windows mobile thats causing this? is there away i could change the OS installed, maybe like the OS pocketpc's run? I'm not new to all this, but I would like some input and what everyones feeling, or if anyone is feeling the way I am. thanks again guys, looking forward to your responses
p.s. if you have any recommendations on devices i should look at, please let me know cause I might start looking for something new
One solution is to overclock your vox.
For me is very frustrating, slow opening of new SMS, too!
I don't know any other way to speed up your device.

ya i have it overclocked to 252 mhz, there is a improvement but why does it take so long to send a sms? not to mention the amount of steps that need to be taken to do so, open messaging, text messages, new, have to open contact list (which takes a while) then select a contact, select their mobile number, hit enter, then finally start typing.
I was looking at the iphone, and some reviews off youtube, the phone seems really responsive and fast, anyone with any suggestions? wondering if that might be a good step up?
You can start typing the name you want to write to on homescreen so the contact shows up. Then with left/right arrows select SMS, when you open it it goes directly to sending a SMS to this contact, same applies to the phone book and it will stay that way.

wow that is alot faster! didnt know that, makes texting a whole lot faster. guess i've been doing it the long way, hence the bitter taste its left. question, is windows mobile operating system more efficient than what the pocketpcs have installed?
For me that's really the most interesting thing in the iPhone, the fact that its interface is so fluid, everything seem to load fast . It seems really less frustrating to use. The only problem for me is that it is not as easy to tweak it as is windows mobile. Too bad windows mobile 7 still is a long time ahead..
But at least Windows Mobile 6.1 is due for the first quarter 08, let's hope that it will bring some improvements!
The thing about the MacOS X and the iPhone is that it's only designed for a couple devices, so it's very customized for these. Windows and Windows Mobile is made for thousands of different machines, so problems are just inevitable.
Speed improvements would be great indeed But my hopes are not very high

i think we've peaked in terms of performance and speed with the vox, the iphone GUI is amazing not to mention how flawlessy it flows from one application to another. Only thing I can give iphone a hard time for is it doenst seem homebrew friendly.
So that being said, would you guys recommend/suggest a vox ->iphone upgrade? or just stick with the vox?
Sick with the Vox and try the lates official HTC ROM, it's available on the XDA-developers ftp site. I fashed my Vox to it yesterday and it is alot faster than the original Vox ROM and is slightly smaller aswell leaving more RAM free to install apps like facade and PhoneAlarm.

I also didn't like how long it took to open messaging and start a new text message. Its the main reason I overclocked my s710. Here's a couple of other things that I came across while trying to improve messaging speed. Working in combination, they made a huge difference for me:
1. overclocked to 252mhz
2. place a shortcut in your \windows\startup folder with the following commands:
58#"\Program Files\load.exe" -hide "\Windows\tmail.exe"
81#"\Program Files\load.exe" -hide "\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to ""-body""
Opens the messaging app in the background on startup. Opens a new blank text message on startup. Requires load.exe to be able to open in the background. Since it is already open in the background, you can access messaging instantly. Whatever method you choose to open a new text message will also be faster since their is already a blank open text message in the background.
3. I like the method mentioned above of typing the contact then selecting Send Text Message. Another method that is just as fast is to create a shortcut to your blank open text message and place it in your Program Files folder (or wherever, I have mine as a shortcut in my facade launcher bar). The shortcut contains the same new text message command as above (just without using load.exe to hide it in the background):
49#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to ""-body""
Opening this brings you directly to your blank text message, just select your contact and start typing.
Hope this helps!
wow! god thats amazing, loads instantly :|! and its even more amazing that your a junior member, did you read this somewhere? if not, cudos to you, thanks a lot loving that small tweak ALOT! appreciate it. hopefully more people read this.
Wish there was a program that ran more tweaks to help smartphones performance
After figuring out tmail.exe was the messaging app, I kinda just played around with that and load.exe (found in "how to pimp your s710" thread on Modaco.com) to see what would happen. After that I came accross that command to open a new blank text message on some random tweaks page. Had to try it out with load.exe too. Glad I did . Simple stuff can make a big difference. My last phone was a simple Nokia 6133 flip, and I could access text messaging or a new text message within a second of opening the phone...not really that important, but I wanted that streamlined access to messaging with the s710. I think these little tweaks make it pretty close.
i've created the shortcut, but for some reason it doens't load....my question is when i tried to run tmail manually from file explorer it loads up the messaging center, and not straight into text messages (option 1 of the text messaging center). now i was curious if theres a way we can get text messaging loaded directly
now I get what you were saying in your PM, you want to go directly to the text messaging section of tmail.exe. Try this:
35#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS"
Put this in a shortcut. When you open it, it should take you to your text messages.

I just got my hands on the new Shadow 2009 ROM and I found a nice little app that will enable or disable the threaded messaging of you 6.1 ROM!
Copy it anywhere on the phone and run it. Then choose "Classic" or "Threaded" and click done and reboot!
Done
perfect!
it works great
you don't even have to restart. just kill the outlook/text messages process (tmail.exe) and apply the tool.
(little thing: when switching from classic to threaded, outlook takes a lot of time to load and organize the threads)
(edit: and after that it takes ages to open a thread, so maybe restarting the vox is best anyway )
really! does it ask for reboot or do u need to kill process? why taking so much pain man!
Its just a matter of going in registry and change DWORD key "SMSAvailable" from "1" to "0". Thats it, no reboot.
to revert, change 0 to 1, again no reboot. it takes in effect immidiately.
yes that's true, but the reorganizing of the threads then also happens, and that is quite a pain with 1400 messages......
i prefer being non-threaded: much faster and the delete-option of deliverynotifications of smsbubbles works correct then.

Absolutely correct, in threaded mode sometimes while composing SMS, it does not work properly and erase what you typed suddenl and u have to type again.

Colleagues,
Since I upgraded to the latest stock ROM, I lost the ability to select multiple items at the same time. For example, I used to be able to go into the Inbox, and with the stylus, select multiple emails to delete them all at once. After the upgrade, I cannot select multiple.
Any way of getting this back?

You could also just highlight the first one and scroll to the last on that you want to delete, hold shift, and click the last one. Thats what I always do.
This is the case for all roms in a while actually. imo its a step backward. in ur email options there is a select messages option which allows u to select multiple entries.
This cab includes the fix to bring it back to normal. It is from Romeos2 as an addon cab, i dont see why it would conflict with any settings in ur rom. u can always remove it.
I have been using it with every rom update, i like to mark my emails as read when i read them on my computer, etc. Again i cannot promise it will work with a non romeos2 rom properly, but it isnt anything vital being changed so ur phone shouldnt get messed up either

Yes, this feature was replaced with the Menu item for "Select" that allows you to choose "Several", "All" or "All Below", in newer ROMs.
This is 'fixed' by disabling Microsoft Touch Gestures as indicated below:

microsoft have disabled the ability to use multi select in newer builds. however you can recover most of the multi-select feature by making a following reg key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Gestures\Touch]
"Disabled"=dword:1
after making this key, multi-select with finger/stylus will work everywhere except the inbox.

Tried the registry fix but it didn't work anywhere so I put it back the way it was. It is a shame this feature is removed from the newer ROM.

Several of the Froyo Roms that I've used had an issue that wouldn't allow me to send MMS if the phone number had parenthesis in the format. I saw several people posting that they didn't want to have to edit each contact in Gmail to remove the parentheses, so I created the application.
This application will format all of your phone numbers in your Gmail account based on your desired format.
Available Formats:
Numbers Only
Ten Digit Number
Ten Digit Number With Parenthesis
One Plus Number
One Plus Number With Parenthesis
One Plus Number With Parenthesis And Plus Sign
Three Plus 8 With Parenthesis
Latvia Format
(other formats could be added if needed)
This is a windows application that requires .Net 4.0 as a prerequisite. Gmail doesn't really have any way to modify your contacts in bulk, so I have also been thinking about doing some other things to help keep your contacts organized. If you have any ideas, let me know and I'll try to integrate those enhancements as well.
This application has been moved to the android market.

Very nice... it would be really good if you could add a few more standard formats or even the source code. I personally like to us:

Thanks for the app... it is at least a starting point.

There is no installation required. You just need to extract the zip file to a directory and you should have the following files in the directory.
GmailContactFormatter.exe
Google.GData.Client.dll
Google.GData.Contacts.dll
Google.GData.Extensions.dll
Google.GData.GoogleBase.dll
Just run the exe and the application should launch. Enter you Gmail credentials and select the format you wish to have. Then click on Update. At this point, a Log.txt file should be created and an Error.txt will be created if there were any errors. Both of these files should be created in the same directory.
Thanks for the application. I was able to change my contacts to ten digit numbers sucessfully but I can't do numbers only. It goes through all my contacts but it doesn't say its saving changes. Any ideas?

I found the problem and a fix has been posted.
Thanks for the update but I'm still having the same problem. It doesn't seem to print a log out either when I'm doing numbers only.

I think there was a problem while uploading 1.0.0.4. Please try to download it again. This problem does not exist in my environment anymore.
Works great thanks!
Added a birthdate formatter to correct the birthdates on contacts which have 0001 as the year. It will change these contacts to Month/Day rather than Year/Month/Day.
Example for January 26
0001-01-26 will change to 01-26
WoW... Thanks, I think I am having some firewall issues at work so I will have to try this at home later. Thanks for your hard work.

Thanks
Thank you for this program, it works great, but why is it modifying system certificates before it runs?

I'm not really sure why you are seeing anything related to a certificate. I am not doing anything with certificates.
