Thanks for the reply. Yes, 7-Zip is an excellent app. However, I'm looking for a good compression/decompression app for Windows Mobile. I'd even settle for a good decompression app.
I believe my orginal 8125 ROM came with a zip utility. However, the WM6 custom ROM does not.
Any recommendations?
Here is HTC Zip. Copy "IA_Zip.exe" to "\Windows" and "Zip.lnk" to "\Windows\SmartMenu\Programs".
Pocket RAR
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
I'll second Pocket RAR (which also reads and creates zip files too).
I also second Pocket RAR (third it, I guess)
I built IA zip into mine, but pocket RAR is good too. Up to you.

This worked great on my Wizard, I went from 12 - 18megs of storage memory in about 10 minutes.

The UPX app doesn't actually run on your PPC - you have to first copy the .exe or .dll file over to your PC, run UPX to compress the file, and then copy the compressed file back to the PPC.
UPX 2.01
New version is out (e.g. better WinCE DLL support) - get it here.
Could someone please help me with this install...
I have the file "ttn.ppc.6.030.8320.cab", but the installation freezes...
Then I unpacked the cabfile, and copied the map to my storage card. I tried to run both "ttn" and "ttn2003" files within the "2577"-directory, but both installs won't work... who knows what to do??
Thanks!

Then you maybe read the thread more carefully...
The way to install TomTom 6 on the HTC VOX is by extracting all the files from the cab, you can do this with a tool like WinCE CAB or something like that. Than you manually put all the files on your phone. That's how I got it to work!
Good Luck!

I did...
I allready unpacked the .CAB file (with WinRAR, like I described im my first post) and copied the files to my storage card...
Is there a big difference in the unpacking-methods?
It won't work! Can there be a difference in the ROM version?
Mine is Windows Mobile 6 Standard, CE-version 5.2.1215 BETA
(build 17715.0.2.0)
Could you maybe send me the files, extracted from the cab file?
Thanks again!

YES There is! you can't use WinRAR, it's a special cab.. use a tool made by OCP WinCE Cab Manager!
Oke, maybe that's the point...
I tried with WinCE CAB manager, but then I get an error, saying "The file being opened is not a valid Windows CE cabinet file".
Could you please send me your cab-file, or the data extracted from it? I would appreciate it very much....
Thanks!

what file do i click to install out of the ones that are extracted coz theirs like 50 odd of them?
cheers for the quick reply buddy
you don't have to extract the cab file, just copy the cab to your device
and start file explorer - click it and the setup will start...
cabs are similar to setup.exe's on desktop computers, just for ppc
You DO NOT unpack a cab file! NO! NO! you just transfer the whole cab file to your phone by transferring it to a card or by synchronizing it using activesync! Whatever you do, don't unpack file. It will install itself once it is transferred to phone.
(sorry, was not quick enough to answer...he's beaten me to it! )

Is it better than other versions: find out yourself

You have to extract the Opera9 file and copy directly to Windows.
It is all.
Best Regards,
Hi, what you have said is a bit vague. the extrated file from the download is an exe file so dnt i need to run it once i copy it over? and what windows directory? do you mean the windows folder on the device memory? not the opera9 folder in the windows directory?
so your asking i copy the exe file into the windows folder on the device memory and just run the exe? is that what i do?
please explain properly (full file path and instructions)
Thank you very much

Yes you have to copy Opera9 file to the Windows device memory, then you will be asked to overwrite, so you should tam yes.
Afterthat you can normally run Opera web browser but in new version.
just in my head?

Faster optimization, screen rotation? Pleaze post !
I copied the file overiding the original and when I try to start opera, it says "Opera Loader" with a red cross which when pressed it exits...
Any thoughts?

I deleted the existing Opera.exe file from the Windows folder and copied this one, but the app won't start. I think it has something to do with the attributes of the new exe file. The ROM attribute is ghosted. Any ideas?
Thanks
Procedure is clear to me. Just overwrite .exe file with new .exe file
But to spare me hazzle and spending one day to revert: does this change my opera-settings which I tweaked in operaconfig or goof them by incompatibility ?
Does this new build support flash better than the old one ?
What EXACTLY can the new build better than the old one ?

I have similar questions,my opera is skinned and as troed mentioned
several operaconfig tweaks including having moved the Cache.
Anyone know whether these will all need re-doing if we upgrade
to newer version ?
In short is it worth the effort just to have a different version number ?
Anybody notice that with this version Manila internet ta bookmark thumbnail don't work with manila 2016?
I and others using the whole package. I have not tried only the .exe

Hey Bobsbbq, do you mean the thumbnail not populating a page image? If so, yes I have. The only way I've found to get the image to show up is to open each favorite site in IE.
Ok, new to all this. I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 CDMA. I flashed to an Energy Rom, looks great. Now... How do I load other software... games and such? I have looked around here, thinking it would be part of the first post, I was wrong. Perhaps this site is too advanced for that? If so, point me to a newbee site and off I shall ride. Thanks in advance for your help. This phone is awesome, and the Energy rom I loaded, looks sweet.

well. there is the microsoft marketplace. or .cab files.
.cab file instructions...
one. download application's .cab file. suggested list of applications can be found here.
two. move the .cab onto your phone's storage card.
three. on your phone, navigate to the .cab file with file explorer, or other like program.
four. open .cab file.
five. choose installation location. device or storage card.
six. select install.
seven. enjoy.
and i havent ever used marketplace before...
i always find the .cab file.
sh4d0w86.
Not to make fun, but it is pretty surprising the you are able to unlock the phone and reflash the OS, but can't install software.
If you search this site, Microsoft Marketplace, or just do a Google for "Windows Mobile freeware", you'll find many thousands of apps. Find the app you want, copy or download the .CAB file to the TP2, and execute it.
For example, Google "Google Mobile Maps", download the Windows Mobile .CAB file, and run it.
Thanks
Well, the instructions to flash a phone are detailed and many. One problem I had was I was dropping the 7zip file onto the phone. Also, I could not unzip the file with the extension of 7z because I did not have the correct unzip manager. Another issue was I was trying to Sync the programs to the phone. Thanks for clearing it up. Is there a logical place to put them on the phone to make them run fast? Thanks in advance.

Installing to main (internal) memory is much faster than installing to the SD (external) memory. Installing large programs to the SD card is the general rule of thumb for obvious reasons. It's up to you where you prefer to install them.
If you mean where should you put the actual *.cab files, then you could always delete them once they've been installed. You don't need them again unless you're going to flash constantly. It's always good to back them up, so storing them on your PC or the SD card would be preferable.
Thanks a bunch!
well, check out this thread..........
cabs just load on the phone and run like any program, just find the file and click it. exe's need to run from windows (regular computer) and install through activesync.
