what file do i click to install out of the ones that are extracted coz theirs like 50 odd of them?
cheers for the quick reply buddy
you don't have to extract the cab file, just copy the cab to your device
and start file explorer - click it and the setup will start...
cabs are similar to setup.exe's on desktop computers, just for ppc
You DO NOT unpack a cab file! NO! NO! you just transfer the whole cab file to your phone by transferring it to a card or by synchronizing it using activesync! Whatever you do, don't unpack file. It will install itself once it is transferred to phone.
(sorry, was not quick enough to answer...he's beaten me to it! )

after installation, in the file manager right click on the cab file that you wan to install then you will see the menue CABviaActiveSync (device must be connected)

Could someone please help me with this install...
I have the file "ttn.ppc.6.030.8320.cab", but the installation freezes...
Then I unpacked the cabfile, and copied the map to my storage card. I tried to run both "ttn" and "ttn2003" files within the "2577"-directory, but both installs won't work... who knows what to do??
Thanks!

Then you maybe read the thread more carefully...
The way to install TomTom 6 on the HTC VOX is by extracting all the files from the cab, you can do this with a tool like WinCE CAB or something like that. Than you manually put all the files on your phone. That's how I got it to work!
Good Luck!

I did...
I allready unpacked the .CAB file (with WinRAR, like I described im my first post) and copied the files to my storage card...
Is there a big difference in the unpacking-methods?
It won't work! Can there be a difference in the ROM version?
Mine is Windows Mobile 6 Standard, CE-version 5.2.1215 BETA
(build 17715.0.2.0)
Could you maybe send me the files, extracted from the cab file?
Thanks again!

YES There is! you can't use WinRAR, it's a special cab.. use a tool made by OCP WinCE Cab Manager!
Oke, maybe that's the point...
I tried with WinCE CAB manager, but then I get an error, saying "The file being opened is not a valid Windows CE cabinet file".
Could you please send me your cab-file, or the data extracted from it? I would appreciate it very much....
Thanks!

Hi ppl, sometimes i download a program and i get a bunch of files with an "XML setup" file included, how do install this? Thanks.
Indy
Indym,
Please could you be a bit more unspecific.
Thanks

From what i think , you are opening cab files(with winRAR) which have to be directly copied to the WM device you are using rather than being extracted .
So if u have say prog.cab , dont open it with RAR
>just copy to device and run from there
Hope this helps

I am really a newb to the cell phone thing and have found a few programs from this cool site to upload. Just got the phone today, but I can't seem to upload an Opera Browser, I had to get a beta version from there site, not sure if it is as good. Also , I cant seem to upload PocketNestor or HTC Audio etc. How do I upload these? I throw them on my tilt and the zip program recognizes the files, but there are so many. I try to run them and to no avail, nothing happens.
Where did you get the application zip files, can you post one of the zips? Maybe they care cabs if you see a lot of files in the zip?

I got the links from here....

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pnester
Also, while I am at it. What do you guys recommend for an internet browser ? I keep hearing about the fire fox browser for mobile, is it any good?
The pnestor app ran ok unpacked and launched exe. Also try the cab file I attached for HTC Audio Manager. Just copy the cab file to your phone and run it from there. Let me know how it goes btw I use opera mini 4 and love it.

I dont mean to sound like an idiot but I opened up the RAR file on my PC and see a ton of files, none of them look like a CAB to me. What is the name of the file I should be sending to my phone exactly? Maybe I am not sending over the right file....

You cant see the HTC Audio Manager cab file I attached to my post? The nestor zip I downloaded has 3 files in it and only one .exe and it works.

I dont have a zip in my post. If after you download it the filename is: HTC Audio ManagerV1.02.919.713.zip change the .zip to a .cab then run it from your phone. It is not a zip file.

Ahh see I had Winzip to select to run with .CAB files, but after the uninstall of winrar , the HTC Manager worked, but not the nester for some reason.
Try this one and it is a real zip file. Connect the phone with Activesync and run the exe. There is only one exe file.

Quick question, how would one go about deleting the cab apps that you install incase you don't like the program? Do I just delete the program file and the cab from the phone?
Start -> Settings -> System -> Remove Programs and uninstall.

I tried searching, found this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310788&page=2 but it's not answering my question.
My Kaiser came with SPB GPRS Monitor and Sprite Backup. Both came as an installation disk (exe format) to be installed through a PC. Now, I'm looking at a way to make CAB for carrying both so that anytime I do a hard reset or reflash ROM, I can re-install both without using PC. Looking at the thread, I tried opening up the .exe and able to get the Cab files (there're 2, named 1 and 2 for each setup executable extracted), but copying the Cab and running it on my Kaiser won't work.
Is there any way? I try avoiding using 'cracked' cab apps .. I have it as bundled for the Kaiser, there should be a legit way for me to have it as cabs ..
There is a way.
run the installer from your PC. when the installation screen comes up asking you to choose between storage card and device, DONT CHOOSE. instead, run a file manager and search for the cab file. it usually goes either in windows/appmgr or in application data/volatile
What if in this case, it doesn't ask, it immediately says check your WM device, there's further instruction.
Second question: is the search done on the PC or the WM?
I'll definitely give it a try .. and thanks!
if u got activesync installed on your PC, run the exe files and find the .cab files on program files/microsoft activesync folder
semoga berhasil
Thank you. Terima Kasih Will give it a try
the cab file doesn't always appear on your PC.. but it does always appear on your PPC
look for it in your PDA when it tells you to look for further instructions..
WinRAR (rarlabs.com) is free and will extract most files from EXE installer archives. However, if WinRAR won't then UniversalExtractor will. You can search for it on google and download a demo.
THANK YOU
Thanks to all who has responded.
I managed to find the CAB files under PC's respective folders (Some are under Active Sync, some like Holux, created it's own folder). Tested some of the CABs found there and it worked. Now I'm a happy camper, got all of the CABS that I need (especially GPRS Monitor )
Last question:

look for it in your PDA when it tells you to look for further instructions..

Under which folder I should be looking? I tried TEMP but it's empty (that's before I confirming the install process)

I always do this to extract cab files from a exe installer and most of the time the cab file can be found at windows/appmgr/install
very useful and a serious time saver
Sticky or Wiki?
Thanks again for responses. I'm able to get what I need and believe this can be put as part of FAQ, Wiki or Sticky?
Sticky no.. but i will add it to the guides thread soon..

You have to extract the Opera9 file and copy directly to Windows.
It is all.
Best Regards,
Hi, what you have said is a bit vague. the extrated file from the download is an exe file so dnt i need to run it once i copy it over? and what windows directory? do you mean the windows folder on the device memory? not the opera9 folder in the windows directory?
so your asking i copy the exe file into the windows folder on the device memory and just run the exe? is that what i do?
please explain properly (full file path and instructions)
Thank you very much

Yes you have to copy Opera9 file to the Windows device memory, then you will be asked to overwrite, so you should tam yes.
Afterthat you can normally run Opera web browser but in new version.
just in my head?

Faster optimization, screen rotation? Pleaze post !
I copied the file overiding the original and when I try to start opera, it says "Opera Loader" with a red cross which when pressed it exits...
Any thoughts?

I deleted the existing Opera.exe file from the Windows folder and copied this one, but the app won't start. I think it has something to do with the attributes of the new exe file. The ROM attribute is ghosted. Any ideas?
Thanks
Procedure is clear to me. Just overwrite .exe file with new .exe file
But to spare me hazzle and spending one day to revert: does this change my opera-settings which I tweaked in operaconfig or goof them by incompatibility ?
Does this new build support flash better than the old one ?
What EXACTLY can the new build better than the old one ?

I have similar questions,my opera is skinned and as troed mentioned
several operaconfig tweaks including having moved the Cache.
Anyone know whether these will all need re-doing if we upgrade
to newer version ?
In short is it worth the effort just to have a different version number ?
Anybody notice that with this version Manila internet ta bookmark thumbnail don't work with manila 2016?
I and others using the whole package. I have not tried only the .exe

Hey Bobsbbq, do you mean the thumbnail not populating a page image? If so, yes I have. The only way I've found to get the image to show up is to open each favorite site in IE.
