Qtek S100 freezes on bootloader after first sync

I am having nightmares with my Qtek S100 (HTC Magician, i-mate ...).
All of a sudden, I started having stability problems, phone wouldn't hang up, crashes in Contacts etc.
Never mind, I thought, I'll flash the firmware (something I have already done several times) and start out again with a nice clean installation.
The following behaviour has been checked with several firmware versions, from several sources.
The upgrade goes smoothly. The device can be used and soft resetted without any problems and it is stable. However, once I sync using ActiveSync 3.8 for the first time, the next soft reset provokes a freeze on what I would call the bootloader screen, with the Qtek splash, and the various versions of the firmware. The only way to get out of it is to hard reset the device, which means that all the synced info is lost.
To me uneducated eye, it's as if the memory pointers have gone haywire ans the synced databases are overwriting something they shouldn't.
I'm sure you would agree, a PDA without synced information is a bit like an early generation GSM. Bl**dy useless.
Please save what little hair and sanity I have left with some suggestions.

Problems with Activesync and 1.13 ROM?

I've recently upgraded my MDAc with the T-Mobile 1.13 ROM upgrade from their website.
Everything else seems to be fine except for ActiveSync, it's very tempremental- I managed to sync up data on the first connection but later that same day, I connected the device again and it doesn't seem to do anything except charge. I don't even see the AS tray icon either.
Anyone else had similar problems (and solutions for it)?

Had same type of problem myself, fix was to shut down Activesync on computer completly and deinstall, the reinstall active sync(3.8.0) connect device and give a new device name.

Still doesn't work- I remember actually trying re-installing AS on another machine with the same result.
Think I may have to go back to the 1.12 ROM.

Try hardresetting device sometimes it takes more than one go to get it stable!!!!!!!!!

I've tried about 5 hard resets now...
But it seems to work for the first couple of times then no more.
Another thing, I tried installing Card Export again and the icon for that also does not show up on the tray.
Anyone know if it is possible to downgrade to 1.12 with a shipped ROM?

Just to 'close' the topic; I went back to 1.12 ROM and all seems fine again.

Newbie flashed prophet to 3.3.13 ASERG, minor problems faced. experts needed.

It's a great rom, generally.
But i have 3 problems with it.
1. My 818pro (prophet) is flashed from stock 2.0 to AKU 3.3.13 ASERG. Radio rom 2.19.21--> 2.69.21. it worked with my GPS receiver through bluetooth, but not my bluetooth handsfree.
both devices are BT class 1.2. Just I am not sure what to do with it?
Is it a problem with the radio rom or the AKU rom?
2. Settings for phone is not working. it claims "the phone is not ready. wait 15 seconds and try again." Contacts on SIM are accessible, and phone calls seems alright. Is that again a radio rom problem?
3. The WM5 on the phone used to be in Chinese version. It showed Chinese perfectly. In the ASERG one, even CE-star is installed (a chinese viewing software), it is fine on chinese webpages and filenames, but not in softwares. (As attachment).
According to my experience on recovering and backing up the stock OS, the problem is likely caused by a corrupted file called "bmmini.ttf" under windows/fonts. Any ideas? Any chinese here? would you mind to upload yours here for me to give it a try?

problem 1. do a hard reset (cam+voice+reset,then hit send) see if that fixes you bluttooth. You will loose all the contact and installed software on the current phone.
problem 2. After problem 1 see if that fixed it. I dont think this is radio related
problem 3. Search on www.pdafans.com plenty of chinese input software. I personally dont use chinese input, only the country settings to read chinese char. if u need that cab i can upload.

after i hard/soft reset many times, and tried different radio roms/ settings,
all three problems has been solved.
1. bluetooth handsfree: I didn't registered the handsfree to a "new phone (rom)"
2. it was a radio rom problem. I went back to 2.20.21. It also resulted in faster initial loading time and eliminated some strange error messages. (I tried 69.21 and 61.21, not good for me)
3. I backed up all data, hard reset, restored all data except the "bmmini.ttf" i mentioned. It worked. Also, i found that the spb backup did a bad job on recovering PIM data on the ASERG rom, I skipped that part. (It will screw the contacts, jobs and the calender part)
I hope these can be useful information for others.

GPS Software "Destinator" not working..

Hi All,
I have installed Destinator 6/7 (both versions) many times and it worls for 1-2times and then it stops at the first screen and today screen pops up again. The top status bar is destinator but lower half is today screen.
I even flashed my Wizard many times with diffrent flavours of WM 5 and 6. It works hardly once or twice then same problem.
Everytime I hard reset it, it works 1 time and then again the problem is shown.
Has anyone has managed to make any version of destinator to work (either 6 or 7) on any WM??? Does anyone have the same problem with me???

With destinator 6 I never had any problems.
It was working with WM5 and with WM6.
Sometimes I had to stop all other programs to get more free memory.
Did you test this already?

I've been using Destinator 6 without any issues on my K-jam. I suggest you to uninstall everything except maps on SD. Then, install it again on the main memory. Also, surf on the Destinator technology site if there's an upgrade or something to your country.

hi, i had the same problem that you have now, but only with wm6,
i find out that when i hard reset my device or upgrade a new rom i allways backuped all my pim data using pimbackup 2.5.
then after the upgrade i restored all my pim info, and then the problem with destinator 6 or 7 begins.
the solution for me was that when i backuped my pim data i unchecked an option in the pimbackup called ""binary backup"", then after that, when i restore the pim data ,destinator works fine.
so, are you restoring your personal data using pimbackup?
if so, maybe this is the solution

Today I re-installed TNT.1933_Prof_HTC ROM and increased pool size to 12 MB. Right now the memory stats are:
Storage Memory Free = 38.8 MB
Program Memory Free = 18.2 MB
Destinator and Maps both are installed on the Storage Card (2 GB) with 200 MB free space. This made it to work for 2 times and again it stopped.
Also, I realized that the program actually crashes as there is no entry of the program in the task manager.
So this has rather become a crash issue with Destinator.
Any insight will be very much apreciated...
And, I use a Bluetooth based GPS receiver.

I don't think it is a memory issue. As detailed in the last post it has some 16 MB of mem free.
joesa: Yes, I also use PIM Backup to restore my Emails/SMS. Do you think that is causing the problem. I'll try to disable the bin backup while restoring.

I don't know V7.0 but I think it should be very similar than V6. I insist you to install the core app into the main memory and just leave all maps on SD. Then, you can hard reset many times without having to install maps again. I'm telling you exactly what my local support said at the time I faced installation issues with V6.

This indeed was a crash issue due to unwanted binaries. Thanks joesa for that clue. After disabling that binary option in PIMBackup the problem disappeared. Destinator is working Fine on my Wizard (Both program and maps on SD).

i think so after open and close Destinator 7 he don´t close the speeks after open again, no sound is avaliable, need soft resset for work again.
Only in destinator 7 i detect this, in destinator 6 works fine.

I just reinstalled everything on Thursday, can't do it again
Maybe backup and restore PIM without hard reseting, and with unchecked binary setting? Would this work?

i'm afraid that if you don't have a previus rom backup(sprite, spbbackup), before using pimbackup, you would have to hard reset, i never was able to make it work after restoring my pim data with pimbackup(binary)

it took me a lot of time to find out that pimbackup(binary) was the program that screwed destinator(guess it has something to do with databases), what i did to find the program was:
hard reset, install destinator and tried, install next of my needed program and tried destinator, install next program and tried, and so untill i found wich program screws destinator,

I haven't any pim backup in my TYTN II and hard reseting the ppc every week is complicated.
Think I'll stop using Destinator.

I have an htc touch pro and installed destinator 7. It worked well for a few days and then suddenly refused to load. It crashed at the start screen. After a lot of experimenting I found the solution. I deleted all my sms-mms contents and then destinator was working again! I believe that certain characters from sms's are the cause, since destinator has a built in facility to send an sms. It's annoying though since each time you have a crash you need to remove your sms contents.

kospan - you're my man due to having the same issue i tried ypour solution and - that's it!!! i'm glad to tell you and all those who having this problem, too, that it's only the MMS - if you delete only all stored mms then it will work fine again too

In my diamond, i had to delete both the SMS/MMS to make the destinator work.

o2 orbit 2 - Sprite Backup

I'm a long time browser of this site (for the past few years), and this is my first time posting. Great site - I love it!
I've just upgraded to a o2 Orbit 2 (HTC Touch Cruise).
I love this device, I've been using Pocket PCs since PPC2000 but never a PDA/Phone hybrid before, this is my first, it's amazing!
I'm using an 8gb MicroSD card to store as much as I can, rather that storing apps on ther main memory (the only apps installed there are Resco file explorer, and any today plug-ins etc).
I am having a slight issue with Sprite Backup, included with this device.
Everytime I try and backup my device state to the SD card, the program freezes about 32 seconds into the backup operation, the status in the app says "building self restoring header". I've left this for well over an hour, just incase it's working, but when i've returned to the device it's still stuck in this stage, and I have to soft-reset the device.
I've hard-reset a few times now, but to no avail, the program still freezes.
Currently I'm using the default stock o2-branded rom:
ROM Version: 1.25.206.3 WWE
ROM [email protected] 01/03/08
Radio Version: 1.58.25.14
Protocol version: 25.69.30.05H
Anyone else experience a problem like this? If so, how did you get around it?

I got the same device, and it works (almost) perfect.
I can perform a Backup, no lacks, no critical errors, but everytime one file is skipped(a tmp file). It realy doesn't matter for me, i tried to restore a backup yesterday and it worked fine. The only thing which wasn't restored was the "photo dial cube", i had to add my friends again.. i think you know what i mean, ah and i had to set up the vpn connection again.
Everything else was restored fine. All contacs, all of my messages, pix, software... even the trial period of mochavnc keeps running, and wasn't reseted(doh).
I think a reinstallation could solve your problem. On the CD's which were delivered by O2 there is a Insaller for Sprite Backup. Try this.

I've reinstalled again. It was one of my apps (S2U2, or CallFirewall) that was causing the problem.
Some files were locked and couldnt be unlocked when Sprite Backup kills the processes.
I've found an alternative backup application, Resco Backup, that works flawlessly.
I've even performed a hard reset and restored from the backup, so all is good!!

So you don't use sprite anymore?
I'm fighting with my phone for three days now.
everytime I reboot after a restore, (sprite reboots it first after which all comes up well adn my phone is my old one) but as said after any reboot I do hereafter all my microsoft applications can't find their initiation files sych as :mssyncapp, :mspoutlook :mscprog, :msexplore
I've tried many times and many things and discovered that probably sprite is doing a background task. And it is.
As it resets to the wrong time and date, when set in the right time and date it has missed tasks and it will start these tasks imediately.
Uninstalling sprite helped me out!
But sprite is not easy to uninstall so many files will stay onboard and again after a reboot: crash.
Since the only sollution is factory reset (t-mobile screen), install sprite, restore phone, uninstall sprite, reboot and hope it will not fail the microsoft apps again; it is very time consuming to find out what the *** sprite is doing / has done to my phone.
Hard reset and reinstall every single application I had already installed seems the best way and like my predecessor; do not use the software that came free with your phone. It kills and also sels; a premium version, now why would I need that?
