Hi,
Using still Jester AKU 3.3 Rom and quite happy with it? Or is there a better? I cant keep the Overview with all ROM's which are developing in here...probably a nice Current ROM Overview with description wouldnt hurt in the Wiki.
But - I have a loading issue while connected with USB - it looks like that it dont load my Mobile correctly when connected with USB to my PC.
Is there any fix?
Radio: 2.47.21
OS: 3.0.0.0
TIA!
NVM. I just installed AKU3.3.12.ASERG

Welcome to XDA-developers!
Your ROM version is fine, however you may wish to upgrade to the latest 1.13 ROM + 1.13 Radio + BigStorage (by the way, BigStorage is just a way in which you can extend your measly 7MB of Storage to 27MB). However you will need a USB cable for the above method: I highly recommend to invest in one anyway, as you will find installing many programs onto your JAM difficult without one.
I think it is possible to upgrade with just a SD/MMC card and a SD/MMC reader for your computer, however it is considerably more complicated and you will not be able to back up your existing ROM, as you will need your computer to command your JAM during the backup process. You will probably need to merge two upgrading methods in order to get a USB cable-free process, something that no one else has done. Sorry I don't quite have the time for that yet, but maybe someone else can come to your aid!
Is there a technical reason you can't use a USB cable by the way?
EDIT: I forgot this: the reason why you cannot upgrade by just dumping a ROM onto the SD card and letting the JAM upgrade from that is that the ROM must be modified with some special, device unique data from your JAM first before your JAM will accept it. The normal ROM upgrade programs do this via USB by retrieving the device data from your JAM and then applying it to the ROM they are about to send to it. While there is a way to manually get this required data, that too requires a USB cable (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=231410).

Please avoid cross-posting, especially since this is the wrong forum. I can't help you anyway - different models of PDA can have very different ways of doing things.

Thanks for your help, i'll try and tell u the result.
I'm sorry for being so loud, but I've seen a few "progress pages" in Wikis and I still can't get a clear picture of who (if anyone) is actually working on linux for the HTC Magician (Qtek s100, iMate Jam, Dopod xxx, etc.).
I found this project:
http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/~zabel/magician/README
and it appears to be very very promising; it already delivers some small functionality on the magician (I've tried it). But there is much much work to do before it can be released to the general public.
In general, I don't think there are many people working to get the Magician on Linux...
So I am asking here: are you working on this? do you know who is working on this?
I am a SW developer by trade, but I have no time at home to code.
However, I would like to give whatever little time I can find to:
- act as a beta tester;
- develop one or two patches (kernel mostly);
so we can get Linux running on the Magician.
Thank you.
Hi,
This doese indeed look promising.
I have no qualifications in software etc, but i do like fiddling with linux -).
I too would be a beta tester.
So is anyone working on this?
Hi. As vnevoa found out, I am working on the Magician when I find the time.
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no-one else currently working on this. So developers are needed!
For people interested in kernel hacking, there is the [email protected] mailing list and the #htc-linux IRC channel on freenode.net
The biggest missing parts currently are battery control, sound and the phone.
For everyone else, any improvements to the Magician wiki pages would be more than welcome. To build a proper userspace image for the Magician, support for this machine in OpenEmbedded has to be improved.
Wow!
That haret thingy is wonderfull.
What is the current state of the version for the Magician? Does it boot to GPE?
This is a great thing, really. No need to flash a new firmware, and boot linux! Amazing. I'm using Linux on ipaq and it is very nice. But I would miss phone operation. With haret we can have both things running.
Good work. Has anyone tested USB host on magician under linux?

does that mean, usbnet is not possible? in my case, nothing happens if i connect the magician to my computer. dmesg and lsusb say nothing about a new device. insmodding usbnet doesnt help either. tried the same with a htc universal, usbnet works fine on my machine.
[edit]works for now, if connected via external-powered usb-hub. maybe a driver problem? activesync in windows-mobile is possible without using the hub.[/edit]
And if you check the website you can see all teh file you need to download if anyone know a programm for make call/sms/mms or ONLY calls and run on this linux please give information about
ok i try this one in a few and i edit my post when i have test all
ok today the : 28.12.2006
mmmm i have some trouble with extracting the gpe archive it's seem to be corrupted soooo bad.
BUT the first problem it's this famous default.txt the script to run haret if anyone have a working script please copy information here of the .txt file that's can be helpfull.
the error of my default.txt is: Failed to load kernel \carte de stockage\zimage
must i need to rename the zimage file???
and i have a question ... it's possible to make a "bootable" SD? if yes i can try to run another handled linux perhaps???
OK i have found i must rename the magician-zimage-2.6.XXXX to : "zimage"
so i have downlaod latest version of haret and take the default.txt WITHOUT changing
harte start but of course i haven't the gpe file so it's say error BUT it's launch now i must really found a good archive i have try under linux but the archive still in read only i can't change it to read AND write so all i uncompress are still not working under linux it's better on windows don't know why .....
(mmm risk to brick my magician if i try another gpe file .......)
and of course: sorry for my bad english
now i edit the post when i have MORE important news
I am using the Helmi Cooked Rom and I installed the BBConnect onto my Tilt and the PC desktop software and I can't seem to generate a Pin on my Tilt because it cannot get connected. Any one able to help? (I have the BB plan)
yep
Yes am running the helmi rom myself and all is working well. Check which version of the BB client you have installed, perhaps that is a possible reason.
But works well with the vario III model and said rom installed...
I'm using the newest version 41.0.0.84 posted on HTC site. What version is yours? Did you flash a Hard SPL? or a SSPL? before flashing to the Helmi Cooked Rom?

Change the AKU version from 0.7.0 to 0.4.2 under HKLM>System>Version>AKU
and it should be fine.
I changed the AKU version and still it shows Data Tunnel Available for half a second and says Disconnected. Anyone know a step by step fix for this?

The method described above (chaging AKU version) does actually work!
This is what I did:
1. Installed the latest clean cooked rom (CE OS 5.2.1978)
2. Installed Resco Explorer for the registry editor
3. Changed the AKU version from 0.7.0 to 0.4.2 under HKLM>System>Version>AKU (The key difference here is that this change was made before installing BB Connect)
4. Installed BBC v4.0.0.84
5. To configure BBC I used the BlackBerry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile app which communicated with my work servers and then configured the device for me.
Hope that helps others in the same situation as me.

Followed these instructions after a hard reset and still no luck. I have the same problem as the others, after step 5 it would connect for a second or so, and then disconnect. So it was back to the HTC Rom.
Sometimes the rom needs to be Hex edited to show that its AKU 4.2 I am sure if you ask Hemli he might do this for you in a future release. I am sorry to say but this is one of those issues that some have beening that the roms we have on this forum have not been made for public release since the 3rd party software has not been properly set up to run with it.

I can confirm that these instructions do work with Duttys hybrid no.3 ROM. The only difference is that I installed BBC V4.0.91 version mentioned in this thread.
By the way thank you KarmaNP it did work. I went back to check on what I entered and had too many periods (.)'s when changing the AKU. Make sure that 0.4.2 shows and not .0.4.2 which was my mistake.
Hey guys,
Usually I used to have internet on my Magician via USB using Windows Mobile Device Center or just WMDC (aka ActiveSnyc for XP users) and it always worked like a charm.
After updating to the newest version of Cotulla's 6.1 ROM (great job man ;D) and using searcher12's fixes (very nice aswell ) I can't seem to have internet over USB using WMDC anymore =\ I always though the configuration was pretty much automatic (just have to set it up on WMDC).
Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance,
K.
im using windows 7 and 6.03 and mine is working fine, maybe just upgrade, 6.01 is outdated
Having the same problem, It used to work but not anymore
I use it to update teamstats but now I don't know what happened
please if there is any solution tell us
Hi I just found the problem and it's working again for me
1- go to WMDC ---> mobile device setting ---> then connection setting
another window will popup go to [this computer is connected to]
and choose [ Internet] instead of [Automatic]
that's what I did and It's working now
hope it helps you
Hi all,
I am following the steps described in the forum.
I have unlock the universal and follow all the steps (i think so)
In my Universal appears the bootleader with the USB when the USB is connected and serial when not. In the PC i have unchecked the usb connection in the ActiveSync etc... But when i run in the PC the "ROMUpgradeUt" program provided with the cooked ROM package it seems that is not communicating properly with the Universal. First of all when it appers the screen that informs you about the current version of the pda and the upgrade to perform, both fields are empty, Then i click in "next" button and after a while (that informs you that the process could take 20 minutes) it appears some error regarding to the connection (i guess)...
More info: No USB HUB but Windows Xp running on wmware, but the Active Sync works perfectly on vmware.
Please could you help me ?
Thanks!
Er.....
I would first update your bootloader to: 2.01

thanks
