edited because of early morning eye sights issues will be fixed in the next HeadRom Release
Please get your facts right. i-mate doesn't go by HTC manufacture anymore. These aren't HTC products.

I'm new to the whole Windows Mobile world, and I was about to make my first pocket pc phone with the TyTN, but from the news I'm reading it seems the phone replacing it will be out soon. I've decided to wait it out for the Kaiser, at least that way I won't have to go through the problem or risks involved with flashing a WM6 ROM to it, and I would have GPS built in.
I was wondering if anyone heard or know of the firm release date of the unit and the street price? Any help on this is greatly appreciated, thanks
I heard release may be around late june & price for sim free is expected to be around £400.
Looks like a nice device but not sure how keen I would be on having WM6 this early in its release, If you go with a WM5 OS all your problems are already writen & resolved within forum threads, as a first step into the PPC world you may have a better experience with WM5.
Regards, Mister B
I've heard of a late Q3 or early Q4, 2007 release to Cingular for them to carry the Kaiser, but haven't heard anything about price yet.
As far as the newly released WM6, several apps I'm already using on my Wizard have already been upgraded to be compatible with WM6 -- which I'm also currently running on my phone.
But -- again -- it's M$ Windoze we're dealing with here, so anything can happen. . .
I appreciate the replies and the advice guys. I don't mind waiting till June, but Q4 might be too long to wait. I guess I could reconsider getting a TyTN, I just hate having to spend money on a whole new phone in six months time when the Kaiser comes out. Even if the TyTN works and serves its purpose, I'm gonna have a want for the Kaiser, and if I would have just waited it would have just been a one time expense. Oh well, it's an issue that I have to deal with. Thanks again guys.
I didn't see this reported on xda-developers and somehow missed this in the financial press but it sure looks like good news for all of us since HTC will have a much larger user-base and therefore find it easier to offer upgrades.
The earlier Dopod WM6 upgrade announcement didn't include the Herald but the HTC announcement did so I'm sure we can look forward to a WM6 upgrade for the Dopod C800.
Here's the link to the full news item on the HTC site:

Holy crap! I thought HTC had a policy of sticking to making phones and letting other brand names brand and distribute? This is good news indeed.
I am going to be getting this phone with in the month and i noticed that there is no section for it. please can we make a section for it?
I heard rumors that it shares some parts with the htc tilt did i hear correctly?
Take my advice and buy one of the HTC devices because of the very bad support of the imate

i was thinking about the toshiba g910 but it is just ugly. I also thought about the symbol/motorola mc35
Afternoon guys, Flame me if this has already been discussed but thought I pass the news of my repaired Vario 3... It had upon it Winmob 6.1...HEHEHEHE oh
Unfortunately I had to pass the poor little blighter back has it still had not fixed my original issue.
Thankfully as this issue has been going on for a while they kindly replaced it with a brand new Vario 3
The bad news the new Vario 3 had Winmob 6.0... Ah never mind. Any how, SBE are T-Mobile’s logistics repair centre and if this is the case then the official release should be soon on the web site (Well I hope, but I could be proven wrong.)
Apologises is this is old news... I've not had the time to search the issue, but know from past experience it can take a while from SBE to official.
This is all good and all but I don't understand why t - mobile have taken so damm long to rollout windows mobile 6 to its HTC devices. Its been out for a while now after all ...

I spoke with a Tmobile insider, I've even seen the Demo room in Hatfield where all the little devices are on show to the business peeps. I got the impression from both parties that the testing of this device along side the network must be fully working. If anything fails they start again and put the date back. But may I stress both parties were coy to admit what the faults were.
I dared to mention the Vario4 and a smirk came along his face with the Phrase "i'm not at libilty to say when that device will be available"
About time! I'd almost given up hope!
Shame I've fallen in love with Manila type ROM's now.... but this should be useful to flash the device back to stock T-Mobile whenever I come to sell it on or have a problem.
Thanks for the news, I'll keep a look out for it.
(And hopefull Tmobile will release the Vario4 soon, Im looking to upgrade in December! If not... I'll have to take my business somewhere else!)
I recently received my UK Vario III back from repair to find it had been updated to 6.1 too. Unfortunately it seemed to be buggier and leakier than the original 6.0 :-(
I've since put PDACornerUltimate on and find it a much more worthwhile upgrade

Yes, they ceased trading in September. Most of their products were rebadged HTC machines. When HTC decided to sell machines under their own brand, the middlemen were left high and dry. Support will have to come from this site, under the relevent HTC model, or try a stock ROM from another telco for the same device.
i-Mate was quite a large company, but things move pretty fast in this arena, and Dubai is not the place to get into money troubles at the moment..........
