ExtendedRom corrupted!! Please help - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 Software Upgrading

Hello,
My Extended ROM (which I access through an UnlockExtRom tool) has been corrupted somehow. Now I cannot read or write or edit the ExtROM. It only shows junk files with unreadable characters.
How can I clean this mess and load a clean Extended ROM package for future hard-reset needs without reinstalling a whole new AKU?
Thanks

Hi I had the same issue when unlocking the ext rom and trying to write on it.
I did not find any solution except by reflashing with an original aku.

Need Help Restoring Original ROM (from Backup)

Hi All, I am after advice on how to get my original ROM back.
I upgraded to MksBiGStorage, and following the instructions I backed up my original ROM first.
My original ROM is on my Hard Drive but I think because I used a 1Gb SD card to back it up with ntrw.exe, it is 1Gb in size.
I was hoping I could just use ntrw.exe and transfer my 1Gb backup ROM back to my SD card again using ntrw.exe and then hard reset my phone and it would see the ROM and install it - BUGGER, that doesnt seem to work.
Can anyone tell me how to get my backed up ROM back onto my phone? Or does anyone have the Original Orange UK SPV m500 ROM I could download and install?
Desperately want my original phone back - Please help guys, you are my only hope. (I Sound like Princess Leah asking Obi-Wan).
guess i'm Yoda then
Think you put the rom after your sd's mbr with ntrw. To solve this do the following steps:
- create a romdump of your current rom, you know how don't you?
- now copy your backup rom on the sd without formatting it.
romupdate has overwritten the sd's mbr and ntrw will happily write the backup.nb1 image at the start position of your sd.
Now your magician should be able to se the image.
Also you cashrink your backup image extremely. Open the mksbigstorager romimage in hexedit go to the last byte and get the address and bytes. Now open your backup, go to the same address and look for the same bitpattern as it is very recognizable this shouldn't give a problem.
Now delete all the bytes behind them & you're left with a handy 64Mb image
Good luck, M
I dont mean to sound ungreatful for your reply, but I have no idea what you mean.
I only have one backup of my old ROM, and that is the 1Gb file on my hard drive.
Can you give me a step by step procedure for restoring it?
If I understand correctly, you are saying to backup my (not wanted) mksbigstorage ROM again to SD (which will write the MBR to the SD.
Then, copy my original ROM back to the SD using ntrw, then try and insert my SD back into my device and it will work?
Is that right?

Yes that's right the rom-dump will overwrite/destroy the mbr. After that write the old 1Gb file on the same sd without formatting it, then it will work.
I'll post the steps to cut the 1Gb to 64Mb later as I need access to my PC for details on it. I did it myself as BS 1.13 on the ftp is my image and around 64Mb in size & mksbigstorager can do it too only that will do it with the BS patch & manually you get it without.
first thing is to get your old-rom on your device so start dumping ;-)
Regards, M
oltp, thanks for your help man. I am currently transferring my ROM to the SD.
Where abouts in NL are you from? I love NL - You guys rock
If ever I get the chance I will retire/emigrate in the Netherlands. Love it.
Just inserted card, and it says its trying to update the ROM.
MANY, MANY THANKS for taking the time to answer my questions.
I really appreciate it.... YODA!
You're welcome I'm just the messenger in this, someone else 'discovered' the mbr problem & posted it here.
Glad it works for you too.
Regarding the of the world I'm from the home of cannabis (Amsterdam) & live now near the city from 'a bridge to far' (Arnhem). Love it here too near the forests etc. Somehow the Dutch get a lot of bad credits lately in the news so it's nice to read that there are people liking Holland. So thank you & I guess you're device is ready for use by now.
Cheers, M
Absolutely spot on.
Once again, thanks for your help - I had almost given up.
I hope this helps others out aswell who need to revert back to the original ROM.
Regarding the 1Gb file, there are a couple of people in another thread of mine who obviously didnt back their ROM up and are asking for the original Orange UK ROM for download.
Is it safe to upload the ROM I have for them? I dont understand why its not downloadable anywhere on the net at the moment?
I will happily upload this ROM for others if its not going to cause licensing issues or invalidate my ROM at all.
I took a look at using the HexEdit program and think I know what I need to do, but selecting all the bytes after the address seems to take AGES! FOREVER.
Thanks again for your time oltp, I am well chuffed
Excuse me for my bad English, you better select to first 64Mb & save that part in a new file don't forget to include those footer bytes.
When you don't want people to get your device id, just replace those first 416bytes with a looping 'please put your own 416bytes here' or something simular. Must work don't you think?
I just uploaded mine as I hope, guess, belief they're not able or willing to backtrack me in the coming 18 months. Then my contract ends & I probably get a new 'phone'.
So pls upload your shrunken & zipped image you can pls a lot of others with it.
Cheers, M

No you can't and there is no way doing this as of now for a G4.

The Ext. Rom provides extra software that usually gets installed by default once a hardware reset has been done. Deleting CAB's in the Ext. Rom (whether it's possible is another question) has no effect on the Prophet at all. If software from Ext. Rom got installed already then they stay installed until you uninstall it or do a hardware reset.

You don't want to do any of that unless you know what you are doing.
Spatzm, thx so far ... but:
-how can i edit my ext rom then? when not with deleting the CABs?
-and i saw some threads they said, u can unlock a G4:
• one said with the aWizard
• and some others told of variouse tools to do that
they are all wrong?
... btw. i ask this, because i wanted to backup my XDA with aWizard before i change anything, but to before backup, the aWizard Tools tell i have to unlock, and without i only can backup the ext rom.

How to Restore encryption file???

Hi Guys...Please help me
I have Very2 Trouble....
Im using Tomal ROM for My Uni....But Im Set encryption File in Setting/system/Encryption
My Uni ReUpgrade With EF 2.40 Last night.....Before Reupgrade, I Backup System using spb Backup, i save to storage card. After Reupgrade, file Backup Can't Acces/open...
How to Unencryption this file???? Because All file in program file, backup file can't Open...
I'm sorry but as far as I know there is no way you can restore an encrypted file. When you reflash ROM your Uni has different encryption - as if it were a different Uni. Obviously, the point of encrypted files is only the originator can read it. I don't think even reflashing with the original ROM will allow, as the encryption code will be changed again.
You would have had to copy your SD card to your PC using ActiveSync before flashing ROM.
Today I reflash Again using TOmal ROM...
But No Can Find Solution....
SO Sad...
Sorry ajie,
I have had a further investigation, and it looks like Microsoft are putting a stronger message when ticking the 'encryption' box. However OEM don't seem to be passing this on. (Perhaps a small note for all cookers?)
Please see my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2718217#post2718217 which will not be any more help.

How to access files without ActiveSync

I made a bad change in shellres.dll.0409.mui and my device (Herald) cannot boot normally. It is frozen on the Windows welcome page (WM6.0).
So, Activesync cannot detect the device.
I would like to copy the good file from my computer to the device, or to copy the good file which is still installed on my device in \Temp, to \windows.
Is it possible to do that with mtty, with the bootloader mode, or with another tool ?
I'm afraid that a hard reset is not useful because shellres.dll.0409.mui is a "ROM file" (ROM property checked, is it considered as the ROM component ?).
And I don't want to flash ou upgrade the ROM. It is Ok except shellres.
Thanks for your help !
You don't need to flash again the rom. I had this problem a lot of times and with a hard reset solved. This file makes the translation for the main wm applications, so if its wrong the applications fail to start, and for this you cannot achive an activesync connection. But with a hard reset the device returns to factory settins and all windows files replaced with the defaults, so you can boot it again normally.
Possible without a hard reset ?
... because I didn't have a backup. So, I would prefer another solution.
Other question : when a file is marked as "ROM" in the properties, does that mean this is a real part of the ROM ? Or is the ROM stored elsewhere ?
Rom is "read only image like a cd rom. you can't change one file on the cd rom without rewriting the entire cd. When you flash a rom you are rewriting that cd.
In other words the actual "rom" is stored elsewhere and reloaded when you hardreset.
Would WM5torage be of any use?
no his phone won't load so therefore he can't install anything.
plus i don't think wm5torage is compatible with 6 or 6.1 (it may have been that it was just 6.1 ....i've seen people complaining about it, i may be wrong)
I made the hard reset but I have to do again everything...
... and I can't change the read-only property of shellres.dll.0409.mui.
I'm creating a new question...

Hard reset =/= restoring all the system files?

I am using Touch HD (BlackStone), I installed one of the hot fix from HTC and it seems causing my phone lock up with the ICR program. I did hard reset and reinstall the ICR and it still crashing all the time. I spended 2 days playing around with countless hard reset and the problem was still there. Finally I flashed my ROM and the problem seem gone now. Seems like the hot fix replaced some of the system files and the hard reset didn't restored them.
I just wondering what exactly hard reset does? Does it just delete the extra files and settings installed by users without restoring all the system files?
a hard reset restore all files of your phone (delete all contacts, messages, settings, programs....) to original parameters.
It's like a "fomat c:" for a computer !
So when I flash the ROM image into the phone, it will put it in a protected area in the flash ROM and hard reset will copy all the files from there to another portion of the flash ROM and execute from there?
when you flash a rom, it erase (or replace, it's the same) the 'older' rom !
a hard reset just delete all files ! if you hard reset your phone, it will be like you buy it, when you power on your phone at the first time !
there is no multi-partitions, one and only one OS can be flash, install and run at the same time !
I hope it's clear, and I answer your question, because my english is very bad....
Hey, if you try format c: ,you get rid of ALL datas on your disk, including OS !! So, it´s not like hard-reset Hard-reseting deletes all user-made data, but it doesn´t do anything with ROM/firmware files, so if you changed them, you can get them back only by reinstalling OS ;-)

Ah that explain why hard reset didn't fix my problems but re-flash the same ROM into phone did.
So there is a list of files in ROM to tell the hard reset program which are needed to keep?
thanks
sorry, it's to hard for me to explain what I think in english
