Is is possible for maybe one of the developers to give us windows treo owner(700 and 755), a rom update(genetic rom would be fine) to the either aku 3.3, 3.5, or even WM6(if possible), which ever one is easier to access and install on the device it does not matter. This would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Whilst a slightly optimistic request, I'd certainly second it!
On a related note does anyone have any news at all regarding Crossbow / WM6 and the Treo 750?
Somehow I find myself running Crossbow on an XDA-Mini-S and the speed improvement [compared with WM5] across the board is phenomenal. The 195MHz XDA is about as responsive as the 300MHz Treo 750. Being a Mac / Linux man I'm not one to big-up Microsoft, but they appear to have done good this time.
I wonder where they bought-in WM6 from? ;-)
Steve
Ah it's statements like this which make me want to buy a Wizard just to play with Crossbow! [must resist the urge!!!] I noticed there are fewer topics here at the Treo threads maybe more dev't will come when [if] palm releases the 750 to everyone [i.e. no Voda or Cingular branding]
well lets hope so? Or maybe we can link this thread more?
hell even if we can just get some of the new features of AKU 3.5 would be nice. Like grammar checker and such

Well, it looks to be official, HTC is rolling out WM6 upgrades for some of their devices (as we all may have heard). Here are the current devices that are initially planned:
HTC Advantage
HTC TyTN
HTC S620
HTC P4350
HTC P3300
http://www.solopalmari.com/images/stories/007/04/WM6_statement_.pdf
But, there is somewhat of a silver lining. If you read the .pdf in the link, it may not be limited to just those phones. There will be no upgrade fees for the carriers, so it's up to the carriers discretion to release the upgrade for whatever devices they deem "worthy". I would think the best way to go about getting it released for the Wizard would be to contact your carriers and request it. If they get enough requests, I can guarantee they'll make that upgrade available.
Despite having some great releases from some great chefs, it would make cooking that much better with an official OS release.
At any rate, CALL YOUR CARRIERS!!

I hoped to get a more special answer. When you take a datasheet of both - it is the same. Just the camera and teh thicknes. So what is really different. And if people can crossover a hermes rom to wizard it must be possible to crossover a herald to wizard. becuse it is same function than wizard.
So what is the difference?

"New OS build contains not whole files from tytn's rom, but more of them.
As i said before: camera is oem application and couldn't work on wizard. And i rebuild some modules from tytn's rom by myself to force it to work.
Im going to finish my tests of that rom, but i can say now that it has very good perfomance. It works like a charm.
Btw, it is unique rom. All roms that contains os 5.2.968 and the same build or rom version, will have my rom as base rom. So I am the first man who made t"

O2 UK says no...
Here is the response I received from O2 Data Support when I referred them to the announcement from HTC:

Good Morning Terry
Thank you for your email
I am not aware at present of any Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade options being made available for our XDA devices including the XDa Mini S in the very near future. Historically speaking O2 has only provided ROM upgrades on the existing OS and has never provided OS upgrades on any of the XDA devices. Please monitor the website link attached below for future upgrades.

Maybe. But all based on mun are not real WM6 - and perhaps i´m one of the "I don´t believe someone´s telling until i see"-people. But Faria mention a lot what he knows and what will come.
We will see.

hey
how about, everybody on here gets together and 'badgers' or (requests, to put it nicely! ) a specific operator for the rom update?
rather than 10 people each asking 10 diff operators, lets just get together and ask one, would be more likely, and either way, once we have one official update in our hands, thats all we need really!
how bout it then chaps?!(and chap-esses)

That seems like a good plan to me. What operator did you have in mind? We should probably pick one that has traditionally been more open to upgrades in the past. That would definitely rule out Cingular/ATT here in the US.
Also, papamopps, give Dr. P. some respect and credit on the issue of what OS is based on what device. If anyone would know, he would.

I don´t wanted to blame anyone - espacially no Dr. P - I know he is a guru.
I only have some little problems with Faria´s behavio the last time. And i´m not alone with this.
Btw they´re doing great WORK and we all need it. Thanks to any Rom-cooker.

No offense was taken by me. As for Faria, yes he can be a little *****y, most genius's are.. Please realize though that he DOES "butter our bread", along with others. And he DOES endure a lot of nonsense and crap. Myself, I wouldn't have come back after some of crap that he (and me in a VERY small way) have taken here.....
Now, back to the OP! I doubt that Cingular is going to be of any help, morons... I WILL say that I've seen more come from T-Mobile regarding official updates with the Wizard (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
I would vote for T-Mobile too. O2 suck for updates.
Can someone clarify the following please:
I just noticed some RSS feeds where MS has JUST announced the release of WM 6.1?? How is it we have this forum has had it for months now?
Also- this is my main question - in looking around the web at various video's of WM6.1 there is a new front end that looks pretty nice - how come I never see this on this forum?
Thanks!
same thing as how do people get music CDs before they come out...they get leaked out. and all these roms aren't official. there will probably never be an official copy for kaiser.
and that video is probably for smartphones. Our phones are PPC which contains professional version (touchscreen).

Q1: That's simple. The ROMs you see here are non-official/leaked.
Q2: There's are not so much changes in WM6.1 Professional, but WM6.1 Classic has a new interface/Today Screen.
That's what they show in a lot of videos.

No because Microsoft released wm 6 and 6.1 as a free upgrade. It is the job of your phone provider to port it to their hardware. But the people here cook up custom ROM. So they are just taking the place of the providers doing it.

Presumably though, the providers have signed an agreement to allow them to do this?
I'm just speculating and don't get me wrong, I'd hate to not be able to get hold of cooked roms but the legalities of it all is something thats been on my mind for a while now.
Kind of off topic, but you misspelled "confusion"
Hello guys,
I need you help.
I'm planning to buy a HTC phone pretty soon (gonna buy it on ebay)
Currently I have to decide between the TyTN Hermes (not Kaiser) and the HTC p4350 Herald.
I simply don't know which phone to pick...
I'd like to use the phone for calendar, to-do, w-lan.... and in general I want to mod the phone to my needs
The pros for the Tytn Hermes are:
400 MhZ and UMTS
but as I read, there are ppl having various problems with that phone...
I'd be glad if ppl could reply and tell me about their experiences with these phones (or make another suggestion).
Thanks alot
chbe26
P.S.: I hope this is posted in the right area, it not please move it
you should look for threads in the hermes/herald section either comparing the two or just giving you a wide view of the phone.
I use a Hermes, but would recommend the Kaiser for the extra ram, and the possibility of running Android on it. If you want to run a fancy shell like m2d, then the extra ram is a must.
Also, (while not wanting to put down the fine chefs working on Hermes), there are a lot more people cooking for the Kaiser, and I think the driver issues have all been solved now.

lol. obviously
I have a AT&T Fuze, with the Fuzeberry overlay. I enjoy using the TouchFLO 3D, since the WM6.1 really isn't finger friendly at all.
I saw the article on Endgadget explaining how to flash my device to 6.5, but then I read a load of reviews saying it really wasn't all that good. I then found out about Spb Mobile Shell, but then read negative reviews about that.
Main thing I'm looking for is this: What would a Newb like myself need to do to really optimize my device? New radio roms? Upgrade to 6.5? Leave it at 6.1 but upgrade the TouchFLO (can I do that?)?
I'm not really into a lot of the code tweaking like it seems most people here are. I just want a rock-stable, fast phone that can do what I need it to. Thanks in advance!

Cool, I would suggest you look at the RRE roms...nice fast stable...the 6.1 roms are going to be your most steady, and there are some good 6.5 roms...read through the threads to find out what fits best for you...as far as the radios are concerned....there is a new radio out...but here again, make sure you read through the radio thread to see what works best for you...there are lots of tutorials you can use, so have fun!
Read, read, read, read some more. When you think you have it figured out keep reading.
you will never stop learning here
but go ahead and go to 6.5 much more finger friendly, really not as buggy as some say
most roms have the new touch flo
im on sheps 6.5 with touch flo from rhodium

I thought I'd leave you all with the ROM comparisons that I did when I was actively using my Universal. Half way through I upgraded to 128 MB, so this is reflected in some of the memory readings.
These are my own personal findings - I tested programs on the ROMs that I was interested in. Perhaps I'm opening a can of worms here, but I hope you find it useful.
Thanks Jonny!
Great information, will add to the FAQ
How do you feel with your new Rhodium?
My new rhodium is great - I'm not looking back! (Oops, perhaps I shouldn't have posted that here!). I know it doesn't run WP7, but there is certainly life in it yet (and I have a lot of bought programs which run on WM6.5 only, so I'm quite happy).
I enjoyed too my Rhodium!
And moved to Leo was a big shock for me coming from a real keyboard line devices...
I expect to go back to keyboard devices soon as I find a similar spec HTC device
Jonny could You paste this file with .xls extention? I don't have Office 2007 and i cannot get into it
Thx in advance

very useful information!thanks
Great
OMG...
You HAVE used your Uni buddy!
And I thought I was a serious user...still using though...nobody in my town knows what a 128 MB Uni means to me...will just keep it till I grow old.
I'm waiting for a really good WP7 piece...checked one HD7...but the software glithces.. or shortcomings are too many....let's see.
Hey kalya! nice to see you around
Perhaps would be wise to wait for Touch Pro 7

Great job!! Obrigado!
what next?
I don't know Orb...which would be my WP7 handset.
As always , win mo are dull, very down to earth, mature looking gadgets...they will never be fun and I accept that....
Just waiting for a great hardware & the new OS's perfect synchronisation.
Uni was it...we got maximum from it...but my country's mobile network never caught up with the handset.
Just waiting for it...hoping...HTC would almost deliver and I know XDA members will make it perfect.
Yes it´s true...
I have played with WP7 on my Leo and decided to go back to WM/Android as it´s to damn closed platform it seems like apple...
If WM is really dying which I doubt I think I go to Android instead...
Please let me know what you finally decide to upgrade
Cheers,
Maybe Galaxy Tab if nothing good comes out in the near future.
We win mo users don't want a new OS or high config devices as much we need really new --FRESH-- apps, but maybe the new apps reqire both the things..OS+new hardware.
Otherwise I stll have some of the handsets in my sig(and some nokia ones also)
