is SP5m death ? - HTC Tornado

T-Mobile USA (SP5m-QTek 8300) while i was updating my phone's ROM, the phone was broken and never opened again.
i was using Qtek aku2 ROM in the phone. i uploaded T-Mobile SDA II ROM (TE_TMOUK_101584_13145_0160_Ship.exe) to phone, it was uploaded successfuly, then i pressed to finish button and the phone did not opened again.
BOOT screen does not open, the phone is not charged.
how can i load ROM to phone?
link of ROM i uploaded: http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/download_manager_sda_2.html

Looks like you flashed a UK T-Mobile SDAII ROM on your US Model.
The UK/EUROPEAN model is equipped with Windows Mobile 2003, the US version runs Windows Mobile 2005.
Imho, I guess you bricked your phone....
At the site below you can see it is for the Orange SPV C550 or the european T-Mobile SDAII

how can i load ROM to phone?

You can't anymore.
Send it back to t-mobile and let them flash it if they can, don't know if they will do it for free. Maybe they do it under warranty.
Don't know if you could JTAG the phone yourself, you could google for it
Eelco

can not I do it myself ?

can not I do it myself ??

You ruined your phone by placing a rom which is not suitable for your device, Maybe JTAG your phone is an option, you can do it yourself, but it's not easy. Use google to find any info on that topic.
Eelco

if he can find the jtag points, connect them in the right order, solder them to the TINY contacts on the board, make his own/buy a JTAG adaptor for a serial port, find a jtag utility that supports the ARM 926 core and then detect his processor and M-Systems DiskOnChip memory and THEN reflash a bootloader to it while also reassigning his IMEI and then flash a working OS to the phone then yes he could JTAG it
But as nobody:
1. knows where the JTAG points are
2. knows what order they are in
3. has done this before outside HTC
I'm saying send it back to HTC
Phil
BTW LordMayros, posting on both modaco and xda-devs wont change the fact you buggered your phone good and proper

Thanks for the info m012a9749

@ eelco_akker - No Problem

tell more about, cuz i got one that died also

Please post here if you resolved your phone.

Find a way to charge your battery. Get a travel universal battery charger (you can take it back for a refund after a couple uses ;-) )and charge up your battery just to be sure. Or borrow a motorola charger; it put's out 5.9v, as opposed to just 5v, otherwise phone can't charge from USB if phone is powered off). and give that a try, you'll know if a charging light comes on in a couple minutes.
Of course, all this will do is tell you if your phone's bricked or not.
For future reference, you should never flash any battery-operated electronic device w/o a full battery.
@ Phil:
Is there no ROM that can be flashed from SD if he can get power going?

Stuck in Bootloader; No USB

Hey guys, i have fiddled too much... again
My xda II mini went for a very brief swim in the Swan River. I subsequently dismantled it to very small parts, washed circuits with alcohol, (all power sources removed) allowed it to dry for a day, reassembled it (with no spare parts!) and reset & restored with success. I then used it with no probs with bluetooth only syncs, as the USB comms would charge but not sync.
After a week I tried my luck a little too much in upgrading to latest ROM. Unfortunately it is now stuck in Bootloader mode. It will not flash from SD (from old nb1 file) and unable to talk to it through mtty \.\\WCEUSBSH001 (as USB doesnt work).
Anyone know what could be wrong with the USB circuit? is there any way to fix it? cant get past 'Serial v1.02' screen!
HELP!!
Thanks!
hi,
i have your same problem , activesync is not working anymore the day I tried to upgrade rom with an official version of i-mate . I made hard reset, other activesync versions .... romupdate does not recognize the \.\\WCEUSBSH001
, i tried many times ,, please if you have some news for solve this let me know
thanks to all ....
Is there a program like activesync.cab , to install directly on the pda ?

Expensive Fix :: Broken O2 Xda II mini for sale
Well... instead of sending my Xda II mini brick to have the USB connector resoldered at the risk that the whole motherboard will need replacing - I just bought a new O2 Xda Stealth after reading all the troubles with the new O2 Xda Atom and O2 Xda Atom Exec.
Aside from all the technical upgrades in the stealth, it has rubber caps on all openings!! Best option for a clumsy gadget git.
O2 Xda II mini big storaged - stuck in bootloader with 256mb flash card, charger, pouch, and original Box & CD for sale for parts.

Soon to have stock Xda Stealth for Rom cooking...
Lets see if Gigabyte can get it right

Bad ROM update: is my Tornado dead?

Greetings... It's been only two days since I've bought my HTC Tornado (T-Mobile SDA). After unlocking it, I tried uploading different ROMs (i-mate SP5m, Cingular 2125, etc), just to find the one that suits me. Anyway, I found this T-Mobile SDA II ROM and without a second thought, I uploaded it to my phone. I didn't realize than this ROM was for the HTC Hurricane. After the "successful" upload, the phone went off! Now it does not boot at all, the battery does not seem to charge, I'm not even able to launch the three-colour bootloader screen (camera button + usb plug).
Can I upload a new ROM? Is there a way to recover my phone?
If the flashing stated it was successful then it should be. Try other fully charged battery.
Thank you for your quick answer. The battery was fully charged when I flashed the phone. Unfortunately, I found out that the "bad" ROM that I uploaded was for the HTC Hurricane phone!!! Is there anything I can do right now? Is it recoverable?
you *might* be able to recover with a SD card image, not sure
just connect your phone to the computer, turn it on, and immediately run a PROPER rom update for it, you might be able to get it back.
i did the same with a tornado rom on a SP3i (typhoon) and managed to get it back after a few tries
good luck
The problem is that I cannot turn my phone on. The phone seems completly dead. Just like having no battery installed (which btw is fully charged). I can't get to the bootloader (RGB) screen. Is it possible to use a SD card image? If I won't be able to update the rom, do you know if the HTC support can do it or should I throw my phone away?
dead is dead!
if the phone is under warranty , it should be no problem to get new one!
I didn't know that Hurricane can stop a Tornado ..well maybe it was just the end, and yes, if it still has warranty, use it.
Please observe Silence for 2 mins.

this is exactly why i get the jitters everytime i flash my phone... i'd rather do a hard reset. i'll only flash ONLY if it comes to it, when it comes to it; and if there's a new rom worth it (like the wm6 rom the geniuses are making here... can't wait 'til the 'alpha' comes out ^_^)

don't take it as a joke, and if i send to HTC?
Who's joking?
If that is the case, you might need to change the corrupted ROM chip, and usually they will change the whole mainboard, which is very expensive, not worth to repair
They asked about 600€ for the repaid, so I bought a new one (380€) and sold the broken one for spare parts.
600 EUROS for repair ? In my country, that is 4200 bucks, enough to buy a brand new O2 XDA FLAME.
A new one for 380 EURO ? You can get HTC Hermes with that amount in my country,
The repair cost in my country will definitely be lower than 100€, why not send it to me via courier, and see how much would HTC repair it here
yeah, sell it for parts and save up for the htc advantage ^_^

I have spv, but processor is OMAP710. Is for somebody spv (Canary or Tanager) his phone with OMAP5910 processor???
I read here: http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/HTC_Tanager
OMAP5910 datasheet: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/omap5910.pdf
Tornado have a 10 pin jtag connector!!!
You can find it possibly the jtag points with this software, http://www.c3a.de/wiki/index.php/JTAG_Finder
and with this hardware: http://www.xilinx.com/support/programr/jtag_cable.pdf
You must find TRST, TDI, TCK, and TRST must pull up VDD with ~200R resistor.
Good luck!
Great info, Dibi. Thanks!!! Although I have sold my "brick" for parts, many unlucky guys will find this information useful to revive their phones.

Flashed US blackjack with i600 firmware cant flash back HELP

i flashed my blackjack over with the i600 carousel rom and it all went smoothly, i later noticed everything worked except for usb and bluetooth ive read around and noticed everyone mostly had just the phone not working but mine worked, anyways i tried to reflash back to my cingular rom and noticed it no longer said cingluar usb when i went into flash mode and the phone will appear for a short seccond as an unknown device on my pc and suddenly die. i cant flash back, i tried the flash fix rom and wasnt able to get anywhere with it without my phone communicating via usb. can someone help me my phone is useless now without usb/bluetooth

i did read plenty but i made this flash around the time the rom first leaked out so there wasnt a "i bricked my blackjack" post to take notes on. the phone isnt a total brick though, everything works minus the usb option doesnt show up on the connection setttings, and bluetooth doesnt work. i guess ill try to sell it on ebay or something
no conclusive evidence of i600/i607 working after this!
though some have suggested using a serial cable (probably a Samsung D820 serial cable) to connect to the pc instead of usb and then reflashing the original rom, there is no conclusive evidence of the phone working.
You can try your luck with the serial cable. I am looking to buy one myself because I did the other way around, flashed a i600 with i607 WM6 rom and I ended up having an expensive paper-weight on my table.

Expansys says my TP upgraded illegally- no warranty

So my TP touchscreen stopped working, and even when I re-booted the stock ROM from HTC, there was no action- I was stopped at the calibration screen. I sent the unit back to Expansys, and I received the following reply.
"Greg,
Hey my repair centers exact words were that the device was upgraded illegally. Thus why the refusal to repair under warranty. The charge is to put back to all factory settings. basically they have to replace the guts of the unit.
Thanks,
Joe Bunch
Customer service Supervisor"
I paid almost $1000 for this phone, and the touchscreen gave up the ghost, now it is the OS smoking the hardware?
Any input would be helpful, as I'm really not sure how this plays out.
Greg
Get the phone back and put everything back to stock like spl and and stuff i had the same problem with my fuze when the screen stopped working i tried my best in guessing and flashed stock rom and stock spl BUT i messed up with the SPL because i forgot to read the directions properly and my device would not activesync any more so i took the risk anyways and sent it to HTC directly since i am not with ATT i cant get a device replacement from ATT. i just got my phone back about 4 days ago and HTC installed a new screen without any problems.
Thanks for the help. Can I send it directly to HTC instead of to Expansys first, because that is how expansys has it set up.

You should be able to Expansys is just a retail seller like ATT and them. So i believe you should be able to send it directly to HTC. Call the number look it up on their websites. If you can not find it let me know and i will look for it again.
Thanks so much for the idea, I'm having Expansys send it back to me, I'll hard-reset the phone, and send it into HTC with my receipt from Expansys.
Greg
Also, you have flashed ROMs and Hard spl on it right? If so i would suggest you try and get the stock ROM that you got with the phone and then try to put stock SPL back. Message me if you need help with what i am talking about.
i contacted htc directly for my european tpro and they are ready to repair my battery drain problem. however, i need to flash stock rom and spl before sending. i am little nervous flashing stock spl - not sure if it would brick my phone or not. once i do this, i can send it to them. i read the first page from hardspl, it looks straightforward - hope it stays that way.

make sure you read towards the bottom of the first post on the hard spl page. There they have specific instructions for returning back to stock spl.
URGENT Info needed
I did that - everything worked fine..... the last step says "to verify, volume down + reset, see version number on tricolour screen, should now just say 1.90.0000". When I tried to do that - I dont see tricolor screen.
In my device info, it says " ROM = 5.05.405.1 WWE"; "Radio = 1.11.25.01" and protocol = "52.58.25.30U".
Does this mean that I fully recovered this to factory settings?
Thanks

Not sure how the law in your countries handles these kind of things. But over here software CANNOT limit warranty. You remember the warning that goes something like this: "this device is designed to handle interference, even if it is harmfull for the device itself." So even when you use your device normally, it can stop functioning, due to it's software.... Does this limit warranty? NO.
What if you installed Photoshop on your laptop and your laptop overheats due to Photoshop heavy CPU usage. Is your laptop manufacturer limiting your warranty? NO. Say you don't like Vista and reinstall XP. Nothings happens to your warranty. That's how warranty works, it is ment for hardware malfunction due to bad design. If your device dies due to some software interference (illegal or not), that's bad hardware design and cannot limit your warranty. Although here in Holland. Not sure how that's abroad.

You should check this out. Companies can say all sort of stuff regarding warranty, but they are not the law (or above the law). Consumers have rights. So go learn and kick Expansys' b*tt with your new learned stuff. I'm almost certain that the US has some homolog law.

Do any of you repairers have a TG01 usb port going spare?

Really loving the phone but unless i can get it to sync and charge while sat at my pc its pretty much useless.
So - can anyone in the UK help out please
(not that i have any idea how to replace but will cross that bridge when I get to it)

Why don't You try contact with Toshiba UK ? They seem to be very kind . I got back cover for free from Them. Maybe They will be able to repair it ?

thanks but it is a second hand phone out of contract with a non official rom so I doubt very much they would be interested

Of course I do not think they would do it for free but they have skills and possibilities to do it at all. I do not think they need any contract. I bought my tg01 on ebay without warranty, in box. Toshiba UK wanted only IMEI number of my phone to send me new back cover. What for ? I do not know but I suspect so that to be sure the phone is for UK market.
What concerns ROM, You may write official one. It is not so difficult to charge battery externally, write official rom in external SD reader and change the rom.
