Skype just gave us an early Christmas present and released 2.2 beta for Windows Mobile Pocket PC & Smartphones!
It's been a long time coming, but looks really nice... I've noticed quite a few changes already.
Get yours here: http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/
So, in addition to supporting a lot more devices, it has a nice new today screen plugin too. Now, you can change your presence and view notifications (missed calls, chats and contact requests) all without leaving the today screen!
Sweet! Thanks. Works very well over wifi with my dash.
In HTC P-3300 works very very well with Echo Cancelation ON. It´s a pitty the sound is still from speaker. Any solution for this ?

Try "BlueMusic" to route all sound through the bt h-set. Haven't done it with skype yet.

Would love to see a PPC app made on this.. any one have any idea if this is praticaly possible or not. it works much like Ventrilo's VOIP.
vent(ventrilo) has a PPC clone called centrilo. sadly with the new update of vent senrilo nolonger works
p.s. well when i say it dosn't work i mean the 3.0.xx update to the server. the old 2.xx sumint still works. but i dont want to dirty hack it to work. WM needs a good FREE!ap to do much the same thing. not asking much: a hub, maybe a few rooms/channels, i can live with 16bit audio if my device flys and dosn't lag.
I recently stated here that i informed the HTC America Engineer about the issue with VC on the PRO. a couple cats posted some reg entries to help VC "limp along" so that it could announce the CID via voice, and i also sent those tips in to the engineer.
he has been in touch with me and he also asked other senior members within HTC to test out the VC on their PROs.
today he responded back with this quote:
We’ve officially logged this as an issue internally at HTC. We’ll now get to the root cause and put a fix into a future Maintenance Release. Thank you!!!

seems HTC wants to get this device right. the engineer has been very nice by keeping me in the loop and even acknowledging there is an issue...
there is no time frame. i asked him in a follow up email how we will be alerted of the update.. hopefully he will respond.

Don't they test this kind of stuff before release? Isn't it pretty simple just to go through a phone and test out 99% of the functionality? It seems you could almost do this in a day.

Not really as it is additional software, with so much software out there where do they draw the line with software they should/ should not test !
Until they issue a fix (which could be a while, if they include it in a maintenance ROM release), the following registry changes might partially restore the call announcement:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce\Category: change VoiceCommand1 to Ring
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce\Script: change as5p to v0p (for vibrate and ring) or p (for ring only)
With these changes, the ringtone will sound briefly and then be replaced by the caller ID/name announcement.
Only major flaw with this change is that the call announcement volume is low.
I know routing audio to the earpiece has been discussed a lot of times before, yet, there is an update on this topic. The latest Fring version now does this ! And it actually works quite well. Any chance someone could possibly reverse engineer this and create an universal app that would allow the same audio routing for other programs ?
bump
Hej, thanks for the tip! This new Fring is a great program, and indeed the sound comes through the earpiece/frontspeaker on my Polaris! But why don't you use it yourself? You can also communicate to all your skype contacts, so the big drawback for Skype is no longer there!
All I'd like to see now is videocall....
There is one thing i totally hate about fring. It sets my status on Skype to "online", and there is no way to make it "invisible". I don't like to appear online. It kinda seems to me that for many ppl an online status looks like some kind of "call me call me call me right now" status, and i really don't like it.
It does indeed not have all the functionality Skype has. I can for instance not receive any contacts sent from another Skype user.
But the main thing it does well: calling!
The new version is here:

Hi,am a loyal winmo user went from HTC Touch->HTC HErmes->HTC Kaiser->HTC TP2->Xperia x1
Now after like 6 years on winmo and the advent of the noobified WP7 , i thought that i was ready to make the big jump to Android, and was eying up the Desire/Samsung galaxy S or willing to wait for the VISION (QWERTY)...then i came across the DEALBREAKER :
is it really possible that since the blocking of fring there is no way to make Skype to Skype voice calls on android over WIFI?
Not even anyone on this site can hack something together ??
BTW i am based in UK and would have to fork out 500-600£ for these devices (7-900$) as i dont believe in contracts..and make 90% of my calls on skype to skype over wifi...so i hope you can all understand my shock at skype not working given it worked on all my my 6+yrs old legacy winmo devices..

I want the galaxy S with Gpu!
i read that it works on the desire but also read that on the galaxy there is a mic issue and it works only over 3g/umts not wifi...
the funny part is that i have a skype client installed on my dhd, from the market and i can make a call via wifi or 3g...
Can anyone suggest a SIP application for X10 that actually works with the phone! I've tried at least 5 or 6 of them always with the same result: the voice received on the other side is utterly hideous! Tried: sipdroid, fring, linphone, 3CX, c... and they all routed voice to speaker instead earpiece, never avoided echo being generated on the other side of the call, mic & speaker mixing caused further problems with voice quality received on the other side of the call, tried every single codec 8,16,32 kbps, lowering the mic & speaker gain ... So before i go and by Nokia E series just to do the damn VoIP, is there any hope for X10??
Voip on X10
Got the same Problems .........
No SIP client is working on the X10! I tried many of them i.e. Sipdroid, Fringe, Nimbuzz, FritzApp and so on..........
The results are the same! No SIP client is working solid. I get force closed, phone crashes or just awesome bad voice quality....
I realy was thinking that this was caused by the 1.6 Firmware.
So 2.1 is out now and i try it again.
The Result: Still crashes and phone hang ups! SO WTF?
It wasnt about the 1.6 Firmware so what is wrong with the X10?
It looks like that there is no option to use any SIP Droid with it?
Is anybody out there who can confirm a running SIP client on a X10 with satisfying result?
I have never heard about and i realy want to use VOIP. There must be a way........
Thanx for sharing your experience!
Have you actually upgraded!? i'm waiting on 2.1 before dropping down the Issue. I'll be patient and wait for a update which is meant for my region (not the Nordic), and it might take a while. However I found somewhere that he issue with bad voice quality during voIP in Xperia is caused by the phone recording/mixing inbound & outbound audio at the same time. I actually haven't had many crashes except with Linphone and my main concern is audio. Hoping that 2.1 would do something with the Android Kernel that will allow for better VoIP experience. If not E52 (Nokia has by far the best VoIP client).
Yes im already using the Nordic 2.1 Firmware......
there is no hope for SIP!
Damn it! I mean WTF, I'm following the Xperiax10.net blog and people getting wormed up about the Eclair and anticipating trivial stuff such as live f...king wallpapers, 5 welcome screens minor improvements in performance (OK I admit that Hd recording & continuous are some improvements) but totally neglecting a functionality in which their phone is used as a communication tool!!
So It looks that I'm going to use two devices Xperia handling my multimedia requirements and some cheap WiFi capable Nokia handling SIP!! Have you tried contacting your local SE office over this matter?
Try CSipSimple. Its the beter full sip solution for now on my X10mini. Fully integrates with dialer, and sound is ok at all

Thank you for this hint.
I will give it a try and post my experience......

You're right CSIPSimple gives best results, it takes some twitching with the mic & speaker gains to get best results. Works best with headphones. I've tried CSipSimple before on 1.6 but the software kept crashing down, however on 2.1 the software runs smooth. Finally x10 is shaping to be an acceptable business platform other than toy!
Thanx, anyhow for sharing!
