Hi,
I had the Sp3i & Qtek2020 synced with activesync 3.8 till a few days ago just fine. I recently got the excellent Sp5m which required AS 4.0, so I upgraded my installation to 4.0.3434 . My previous devices connect just fine. When I try to sync the sp5m I get the:
" This version of MS Activesync is not compatible with the connected mobile device. Please upgrade to the latest version of MS Activesync" and since I already have v4.0 it switches to the new interface, saying Connected as a Guest. but no communication with the sp5m whatsoever. I tried upgrading to version 4807 (4.1?) but same problem exists. I get the same connection error when trying to sync with bluetooth too which is weird.
I installed activesync 4.0 plain to another PC with no Office & no activesync but with the same antivirus/firewall etc, and the Sp5m connected just fine with no problems, which is an indication that its not a firewall/antivirus problem.
Any ideas how I can fix this appart from waiting for Microsoft to switch from beta to normal?
Thanx in advance
Costas
Don't conclude it's not a firewall/antivirus problem. It still might b e anything here. As far as i'm concerned AS4 is on piece of crap but there's no alternative.
Ok, uninstall AS completely. Delete the rapimgr.exe from your systemfolder. Reboot the PC. Install AS4.1 (do a Google for ActiveSync 4.1 to find some links). Disable both firewall and antivirus completely and retry to create a partnership with your phone. This might do the trick.
Upgrading from a previous AS installation created a lot of problems for a lot of users. Good luck.
Last night I installed AS 4.0.3434 to another (without Outlook) PC WITH ZoneAlarm & Panda Antivirus & XP firewall all ON, and it worked flawlesly so I installed some software on the device.
On my Main PC with Outlook 2003, I did a complete uninstall, and re-installed from scratch 4.1.0 (build 4807). I still get the same message that this AS is not the one compatible with my device :roll:
It pisses me off but I'll find a way around it ...
And you *did* delete the rapimgr.exe file manually since the uninstall routine leaves the file untouched? This file can give compatibility problems.
I used "YourUninstaller!2005" & I did a search for this file afterwards - it wasn't there. I tried again (uninstall - re-install) with no firewall/antivirus. Still the same problem. I think it has something to do with Outlook 2003 (which I won't re-install - no way)..
You can do a repair of Outlook (from the Help menu). Did you delete previous partnerships from ActiveSync (Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles)?
This is unbelievable. I removed everything activesync related, I cleaned the registry with advanced system optiomiser, rebooted, and resinstalled - same error :evil:

It had only "guest" which was made in the last attempt to connect
I'll try removing everything once more and see if that outlook repair might fix anything (thanx for the tip)

Did that - still same damn error :evil:
In the properties of your networkconnection are only those services and so installed and checked as mentioned on the Microsoft AS troubleshooting site?
And delete the AS relations in the options of AS on the SP5.
I've read a lot of reports about AS4 giving trouble when non WM5 used AS4 before. It seems there's not a final solution for it.
ASO does clean the registry, but believe me, AS settings and relations are left alone by it. I went through the registry manualy to delete several AS settings after yet another uninstall.
Check your services for running services related to your firewall and AV scanner.
Yeap
-Client for MS Networks
-File & Printer Sharing
-IP (TCP/IP)
I read that doc a dozen times
What firewall and AV are you running?
The options menu if grey (no device has been connected since I re-instaled & cleared AS). Will try checking the registry manually after I run ASO again one more time ..
ZoneAlarm 6, XP Firewall, Panda Antivirus Titanium 2006 - All have firewalls, and out of the 3 PCs I tried installing AS4, 2 of the 3 run just fine with ALL firewalls running at the same time (took me a while to set them up all correctly). The PC with Outlook 2003 is the one I am losing my time with ..
And the problem doesn't seem to be firewall related, as I connect. That is not the problem. The problem is the error I get which is weird .. since I DO have AS4 ...
Just to sum it up once more.
- Uninstall ActiveSync;
- Clean any left files like rapimgr.exe from your system (do a search with advanced options, it's a system file and a standard search that doesn't look for hidden files won't find it).
- Clean the registry manualy for any left settings;
- Disable your firewall and AV;
- Kill services related to your firewall and AV;
- Reboot your system;
- Install AS4.1;
- Pray.

I could connect, I could not sync while ZA was running. This only happened the first time. I now can sync with ZA running. You have disabled them all when trying?
Edit:
Are you running Outlook stand-alone or with Exchange server?
Actually, I configured ZA correctly, giving full acess to AS, as well as putting the Subnet it creates in the trusted zone. Right now, I have program access to LOW (learning mode), and the other two (Xp/Panda) dissabled.
I found something out. I tried to completely delete the AS folder (with all software I have in it), and for an error -> pegconv.dll is is still running where its not supposed to. I'll have a look at that & get back
I do insist, disable ZA for the moment you try to establish a AS relationship with your phone. Put both sliders completely down as well as disable the Windows Firewall (if not automaticly done by ZA). If you're afraid of security, take out your network cable. I HAD ZA configured as you discribe. But for making that first sync connection it is not enough.
uninstalled AS
rebooted
cleared manually & automatically the registry,
deleted all files that had to do with AS
defragged
dissabled ZA & panda (shutdown completely services/programs)
run AS setup
connected sp5m
and as you may have guessed, got the same bloody ERROR
:?
This is driving me up the wall. I do not want the stupid "Pocket PC sync wizard" starting up every time my phone is plugged in. I use Direct Push for all my email/contacts/calendar/etc, which is tied to my home mail server for my home domain. On my work PC, even though ActiveSync recognizes that I'm already configured for another Exchange server, it's trying to force my home contacts and stuff to my work account.
This should be a very minor issue, but of course, in typical MS fashion, unticking "Open ActiveSync when my device connects" doesn't do a thing. In the past, I've been able to use Q270136 to disable partnership and set ActiveSync to "Guest Only", which got rid of the stupid sync wizard popup. When I browse to HKLM/Software/Microsoft, there is no "Windows CE Services" key. I tried manually creating the key, and then the DWORD value, but that didn't work, either.
The only thing I need to do is be able to browse the device occasionally, add/remove software, flash ROMs, and send/receive SMS using MyMobiler. I don't want to sync over USB.
Can anyone help me? Could this just be a thing on work PC? I'm running XP-64 Pro, along with ActiveSync 4.5.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe a workaround would be to create a partnership and just disable all 'syncable' items.

Already tried that. The first synchable item is "contacts". When I uncheck it says:
"To proceed, ActiveSync must remove all Contacts on your Pocket PC. Do you wish to continue?"
I hate this stupid POS program...
Does anyone know how to keep Windows Mobile Device Center from popping up everytime? I do not use USB sync, as I'm using DirectPush for Exchange mail. I also rarely have to do anything to the device other than charge it, or use MyMobile to send/receive texts.
I had this same problem with ActiveSync, only that actually brought up the synchronization wizard every time. This is a little better, but I don't want to see that window at all. In my office, I leave the phone on USB so I can use MyMobiler, but I frequently pull it off the cable when I leave the office for something. As an IT guy, I don't get to sit around for too long...
I was able to fix this. First, I stopped and disabled both WMDC services under Computer Management > Services. Then, I found mobsync.exe in the Windows/System32 folder, went into "Permissions" for it, took ownership, then removed all the accounts except the "Everyone" permissions. For Everyone, I set it to "Deny All".
I now have no WMDC or sync stuff popping up. It's great. I can still browse the phone from My Computer > TYTN II. I can also still use MyMobiler to control the phone from Windows, so this doesn't kill the USB connection at all.
Hope this helps someone.
Hi all,
It driving me insane that I can't work it out why Activesync is not syncing my phone.
Here is the situation. Got the phone from my brother. With him it synced fine, with USB cable, with Outlook 2003 and WM6.5.
I have the same setup but Outlook 2007.
What happens is that when it connects, it finds the device, I only set it to sync contact, tasks and calender of outlook. It then says "Looking for changes" and soon after it says "Synchronizing". But then it hangs.
I searched the forum and the internet. I tried reconfiguring, soft resets, installing CompanionLink (software that works through Activesync).
No joy!
I simply want to be able to keep my contacts, calender and tasks from outlook synced. Nothing more.
Any help!!?!
I had the same problem when i used Active Sync from XP, but i works when im using Win7.
Try deleting all the Active Sync settings and make the configuration from Win7. When i did that it worked when i connect to the PC with XP - strange but true...
Ok. But what do you mean with "make the setting for win7"?
Yay! Got it to work!
Funny that I had the feeling in the beginning that it might be the amount of to-be-synced items was going to be too big. And somewhere on the net I found someone with the same idea.
I disconnected the device (usb cable). I removed the device from the "file" dropdown menu. And reconnected the usb-cable. When prompted with the wizard, in the settings I deselected ALL the to be synced categories.
Then it found the device and it synced... nothing.
But it said it synced.
Then I opened the option menu in Activesync and added only the contacts. And hurray! It started syncing. Then I added the agenda and hurray again!
The only thing that happened is that I ended up with duplicate contacts and agenda items. But after an hour I had that fixed too.
Note: Although I don't think that it contributed to the solution, I did reinstall and soft-resetted the device before I did all this. Just to let you know...

Try this:
1. At setting | connections | Run the the 'USB to PC'
2. Uncheck "Enable faster data..."
3. Uncheck "Ask me first about USB...."
4. Soft reset phone & PC
5. sync again.
Note: This may enable activesync works but file transfer from PC to Phone/Storage will fall back. may need to swap the setting back.
HOPE it helps.
Here's my dilema, soemwhere my ability to sync from my XP desktop to my Fuze got weird.
I have done numerous things to try to fix:
Hard reset phone several times
Changed ROM from versions 6.5 to 6.1 and back again
Uninstalled and reinstalled Activesync
Uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007
Turned off Norton firewall and anti virus, and even uninstalled
Deleted Activesync partnerships on phone and desktop.
When I set up a new sync, only a portion of the calendar appointments and contacts transfer from desktop to phone. If I add an appointment or contact on the phone and then sync, it shows up in Outlook just fine.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Found a fix. Spent 90 minutes with Microsoft and they were stumped. If it ever happens try re-registering the OLE32.dll. This is done by clicking on "Start" and then select "Run". Then in the box for the Run Command and type: Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
