XDA orbit Question from old XDA fan! - General Questions and Answers

HI There
I have had two XDA's and loved them both, but found them impractacle when the battery ran out , I lost everything
Is the new Orbit any different or is there now a back up memory to allow it to save and not lose data?
Anyone know battery life on this device as well?
Many Thanks to you kind people for any help!
Hope i can be welcomed back into the Xda fold
(i am stuck between this and the sony 950i !)
Thanks

anyone know?
Hope someone can help thanks......

Presumably it will be a WM5 device and hence have persistent memory, like the Hermes etc.??

HI There
Thanks for the reply!
This is the deal breaker for me, If this thing loses all its settings etc like the previous two XDA / XDAIIi i had before then i will avoid it as its so annoying
all reads good though battery life, its just best knowing whether it retains everything if you can't get to a plug socket in time!
Anyone know yet? Many Thanks !!!

it's a windows 5 device so all settings and data are stored in the device and remain so even if all power runs out.

Hi you could have a look at this site.

After my current phones contract expires, end of Feb, I will get one. I can’t wait…

useless connectivity (wifi and bluetooth)

i have just got a t mobile MDA compact V aka a HTC touch diamond 2? anyway so far its useless.. bluethooth link to pc offers nothing but a serial conection, and from pc to phone i get the networking and file transfer. what the heck? my old artemis (xda orbit) had alot of things like the wireless stereo, HID options etc. and as for wifi, it seems to ignore the fact its connected to my home network (although it says connected) when using programs that need to go online, such as copilot amd the windows update. the phone has been fully reset back to factory settings. so whats going on here? is it because its a t mobile one that half of these things arnt on it? i would of thought the orbit would of been the same since its an 02 phone but nope it works better than this one!
um hello? lol you cant tell me not one of you know whats up here? how the hell can a phone from 2k6 out do, and have more features than a 2k9 one. WHATS WRONG WITH IT!!! also note, im using the same pc hardwere to talk to both phones and even a back up XDA mini, both xdas do everything well.
now, if i was to flash this thing, possably update tyo wm 6.5 (6.1 atm) would it, A. get rid of the t-mobile branding and B. work as you would expect it to!?
stress levels reising. please shed some light on this for me.
tia.
i forgot to follow this up for you all.. turns out there was indeed an issue with the softwere, somone may of tampered with it before and mesed things up. oh well i sold it to the local phone shop for almost what i paid for it so no loss

[Q] Asking the WP7 community - some questions

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of buying a Samsung Omnia 7 right now as there are really cheap in Germany. But I am unsure about a few things which keeps me from buying for now, maybe you can help me? I am currently using a SE Xperia X1 (HTC Kovsky).
First off: NoDo. It's there already or will be there soon. Are any Registry tweaks possible after NoDo is up and running? I don't mind it beeing complicated, is it just possible?
Second: ChevronWP7. It's going to fade away after NoDo, no surprise. Has anyone heard of similar applications in development? Most important feature I guess is sideloading applications on WP7, are there other solutions?
I heard something of USB tethering on the Omnia7. Is that true? Are there any restritcions? Is this still working after NoDo?
What about HTC apps? Obviously the won't install after NoDo, but which of them used to work on a "unlocked" device?
Is there any way of recognizing the device as USB-storage?
Thats it for now. Any help is appreciated Thanks already!

I don't think there is a chevron-like device for after NoDo devices yet, so if not then the answer to your other questions is "no" but I don't know 100%.
I do know there is no way to mount your device as USB storage, only Zune can recognize the phone, the only exception is if you own an HD2.

I believe this will resolve all of his issues though it's still just in beta
http://touchxperience.com/
oh yeah I forgot about that, I hope it's the real deal and actually works.
You don't own a WP7 device yet, but your major preoccupation seems to be unlocking it or tearing it apart. I used to apply every tweak to my phone in previous Windows Mobile.. I'm a tinkerer. With WP7 I have NO desire to go rooting and editing registry and all that. The homebrew just doesn't appeal to me. I wouldn't make this your primary hangup over buying the phone.
The answer to most of your questions is 'No'. My comment on that is 'so what?'
I think the dude above me makes a good point.
If you like to mod, theme, tether, or change anything about your phone then WP7 is not for you.

Yeah, the same way - if you really want a full power of what modern OS can give you currently, WP7 is not for you either.
It's not only about modding. It's about usage.
for day to day use, it's probably the best out of all the current smartphone OS'. However, for more advanced things, it's not there yet. How long will it take, well that is up to MS and how they go about it over the course of the year, but with 3 months pretty much gone now, it doesn't look like we will see much of it till late next year when windows phone 8 comes about.
Thanks for you'r response, guys!
One more question about registry edits: I found the registry edior by Julien Schapman and I read somewhere else that registry edits can be done by deploying a provxml. are there other solutions? Juliens tool obviously won't work after NoDo as it has to be sideloaded...
i own the omnia 7 for about 3 weeks and there were a few moments when i wanted to go back to my nokia 5800, but on the other hand when i saw its incredibly laggy UI, powered by a 330mhz CPU i realized how awesome the omnia with win7 actually is.
ofcourse there are only about 15% setting options compared to the 5800 one's, but eventually one doesnt need the most of them in the daily routine anyway.
so for my needs the omnia 7 is pretty optimal, though i'm missing proper backlight settings, pause-function with the camcorder and some other little things, but i guess not too far in the future there will be a major update.
till then i'm satisfied with whats there..

bro if you are MS you will like to plug all the holes in your OS as well....
i dont think this time MS will like ppl to play with there OS as they did with WM OS...
as right now the NoDo is pushed in batches to individual devices, its not like last time you can go to HTC website and download a ROM and wala...
my pre update update was exactly 10 days late and i dont expect any thing less from NoDo as well...
Yeah I know. Providers have their share of the timing process as well. But it's possible to unbrand the Omnia7 and have a the NoDo Update direktly without any lag.

HTC Chacha-One of the worst phone i had ever seen

Dear All Developers
I m using mobile since last 11 years,i had never seen worst phone like htc chacha.
Very bad battery Backup
Camera is not much impressive as 5 mp
internal memory is very low-can play games & download more application even u root ur mobile..
WCDMA/3G is not working for me
Screen is to small for touch
Before HTC CHACHA i was using Galaxy pro, that was really good
My mobile usage is very high,I m Requesting to everybody to please help to unroot this mobile & guide me that how to lock the boot loader again so i can get some help from htc, they will not listen me becoz i had rooted & unlock the bootloader from HTC DEV...Also need stock rom so i can get back to original setting & all stock applications...
Please help Me ASAP
We are all aware of these so-called "problems" with the Chacha, and plenty of reviews state the same. I bought mine after making an informed decision, after reading as many reviews as I could find.
We all know that if you are a heavy user the battery life will be awful.
We all know the internal memory is very low (unless you use a custom rom and a2sd).
We all know the screen is slightly too small for regular touchscreen use, and most of us bought it for the hardware keyboard.
The camera (in my opinion) is the same quality as my HTC Desire, if not a bit better.
3G not working is likely a signal issue in the areas you use it.
You cannot re-add the warranty by re-flashing a stock ROM as there is a secure warranty flag in the software which is changed when the bootloader is unlocked and cannot be readded.
You could have found all of the issues you give without rooting the device and voiding your warranty. I don't think HTC would be able to fix your "problems" even if it was still under warranty.
I'm not trolling here, just being realistic.

hey
Battery is roughly equal to or better than the majority of android phones i have previously owned
Camera is ok for a budget phone - 5mp and a flash is rare on phones of this price range! (and much appreciated)
The internal memory is low but there are various threads on this site explaining how you can improve this (including a factory reset)
if 3G is not working it would be an issue with custom rom you installed - (common fault on some custom roms) which is a risk you should be aware that you run.
as for the phone I agree with the previous poster where I personally got this phone due to the qwerty keyboard and android mix - for its price its a great handset

since 2011 feb till 4 days ago, i owned an HTC desire. - The pictures taken with it was awsome. And the battery last me 1,5 day.
Since 4 days ago, my usage for mobile wasn't changed. Only the phone. Now I have an HTC cha cha.
The battery is ok for 12 hours. After that.. is dead.
And the pictures.. noisy and unfocused sometime. if you upload some of your chacha pictures, I will do the same. ..
maybe some of us are unlucky and got some lemon camera batch.
what do you say?
Thanks Everyone for Replying the Post

If you delete stock apps you will NOT get free memory. You will get some reserved system memory freed up. Which you cannot use, unless you want to integrate application updates into your ROM using Titanium.

thanks alex..u r right i get the same sapce after deete those application..i wan get back to stock rom as i discussed with with you on ms...i have the rom files, please suggest how to flash to get back to stock rom with all application..i have the backup of all the files i had deleted but m unable to install them again.i had taken backup using root uninstaller...please alex i really need ur help to get orignal stock rom o my mobile..i had done factory reset but dnt get stock rom & deleted applications....
thanks in advance
The bad battery and low memory are fixable to some extent... Can't comment on the camera since I don't use it. And the screen size is the sacrifice you make for the QWERTY keypad in a candybar form.
My girlfriend has no complaints after we found the work arounds for the battery life. But then again, she is not a heavy user. She uses her phone for reading ebooks and music aside from the usual text and call.
There are ways to fix some of your issues. But if the hardware issues are dealbreakers for you, then get a phone with a bigger screen and bigger battery capacity. The chacha is decent for it's price. Wouldn't say that it is super amazing though...

Well, if you need big screens then why did you go for a Chacha? For me the screen is fine.
I completely agree with Flexmaen.
My biggest problem was the internal memory and the battery. After rooting, buying a new battery and using Juice Defender, my problems have subsided. I'm liking the Status way more than my previous phone (BlackBerry).
hi all,
i gonna to buy CHACHA and i see it is very good
bbut i see problem with moving to SD but i see on HTC website and as i know on android 2.3 we can easliy move apps to SD
htc.com/help/www/howto_iframe.aspx?id=73282&type=1&p_id=394
Moving applications to or from the storage card
Move downloaded applications to the storage card if the internal storage on HTC ChaCha is getting low. Or, if your storage card is getting full, you can also move applications from the storage card to the internal storage.
Note: You can only move applications that are not preinstalled on HTC ChaCha.
From the Home screen, press , and then tap Settings.
Tap Applications > Manage applications.
On the Downloaded tab, tap the application you want to move.
Choose whether to move the application to the storage card or to HTC ChaCha.
is this wrong
and about battery is there i buy another original battery is it will be good ?
thnx

Yes, but they still will leave some data on the internal storage. So when I installed about 70 Apps my internal memory was full and not much that can be done than.

If you battery was that bad I'd change it on guarantee.
You can try to improve battery life by using CPU tuner (needs root) or Juice Defender or just turn off data transfer manually.

Totally agree with all of u guys that but still we need to think that if we r spending money on any android phone for using email & social networking or playing games on this....if company have launch this phone with lots of feature then they should also place a good battery to use these feature...i dnt like this mobile just becoz of two reason-battery & internal memory...

With a beginning like "Dear all developers" and an ending like "Please help Me ASAP" you sound like we made the phone
Look, the point is we all know about these problems. I'm using the phone since October and I know that a lot of the problems you have stated have been discussed in the general thread like 5 times each. You should have checked first before buying the phone.
Let this be a warning to everyone, learn to search and research.
For example, a few statistics from our forum:
General section:
Threads: 336
Posts: 2,686
Dev section:
Threads: 103
Posts: 2,649
Do you really think that no one ever stated that the battery is poor in at least one of the above threads/posts? I can pin-point two threads discussing about how bad the battery is and what replacements you can buy on ebay for example.
As the guys have said the solution to a usable android phone with great keyboard is within your grasp!
I use osr
Have the cpu tweaked using the settings in that rom. Have ext on the sd card so currently over 100mb free on the phone.
Green Power for good measure.
Much much better than when it came out of the box now!
sent usin' tapatalk innit.
the battery issue is not only for HTC phone but to almost all android phone with similar capacity. it's depend on how u using the phone. since you are a heavy mobile user, in the first place you shouldn't have choose this phone... i'm been using android, ios, winmo except bb phone. the battery life mostly depend on how u use it.

[Q] 7.8 Sianto Edition questions

Hello all, I have a couple questions about the WP7.8 Sianto Edition for the HTC Arrive. I have the Sprint Arrive and am considering putting this rom on my phone. First I would like to know if anyone knows what kind of unlock it has, if any. Also, does the USB Tethering work in the 1.6 for the Arrive? I see it listed for the 1.6.1 for the 7 Pro..
And does anyone have any input on how reliable this rom is? I am looking for forward to the 2.0L that is said to be coming soon. As of late my phone has gotten so slow and my data connection speed is terrible lately. It seems every week it gets worse and I am having many apps just crash to the home screen and apps that rely on the data like radio apps just take forever to even open now. My wife has this same phone on the same network and hers is not having any of these issues.
Thanks for your replies.
Anyone know? Planning to download the rom tomorrow but want to know about the unlock first. I have yet to HSPL my phone but will when I have all my questions sorted out.
Hi mate!
Concerning the slow speeds, if you upgraded your phones memory by swapping the sd card, the two can be related (for example, my youtube videos are very sluggish while streaming). I Have an international 7 pro (no carrier branding) and it's been 10 months since my last hard reset (when I upgraded the memory from 8 to 32 gigs) and i am also experiencing very slow load times, but I don't know about the apps crashing. Data loading is also a bit slow on my side (on some apps while refreshing) but internet explorer just works fine.
But I remember the phone working just fine right after the memory upgrade, so my guess is that constantly adding and erasing apps and files like videos, music and pictures are kind of messing up the responsiveness of the system.
PS: Sorry for my response not being specific enough to your case. I didn't want to reply at first but since the 7 pro forums aren't much populated lately, I thought that my idea on the subject could help.

thanks for your reply, i was starting to think i wasnt getting one! lol but yea my phone is very slow compared to my wifes phone and has been since i got it. before the mango update it was laggy just scrolling on the Start screen. im hoping it is just the ROM that came on the phone, so thats partly why i want to update to the 7.8.. also i want the unlock benefits, but i cant seem to find if the Sianto ROM is unlocked or not.

For one, yes, the Sianto ROM IS unlocked.
And for another, the first time I loaded the Sianto ROM on my phone, it was at v1.4, I believe. After going through the steps, my phone was it's fastest ever, and I loved my phone even more than when I had first gotten it. Things were great for about a week, until tragedy struck: an app I installed from the Bazaar marketplace while at school basically bricked my phone. So, I borrowed a friends phone, let people know I would be incommunicado, and waited out the day. When I got home, I immediately came here to XDA, and tried to remember which ROM I had loaded, but wasn't able to get the same computer I had originally used. I remembered Sianto's name, but then saw ansar's ROM, and decided to try that one.
Long story fairly short: I switched back to Sianto after about a day, and haven't looked back since.
I don't know about USB tethering, but the internet sharing works in v1.6, and I especially like that Digital Power was added to the Settings. Every time I flashed my phone before, I had to reinstall Digital Power, but not with this version!
All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend Sianto v1.6, and I know that when v2.0L comes out, I'm definitely going to flash it.
Hope I helped.
