Right and safe upgrade solution - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 Software Upgrading

Hi LVSW and all others specialist.
Please help me to select the right solution.
I am currently have O2 Neo Xda pda-phone. I am using it with English language, and it is working ok (a little bit slow, but ok).
My settings are:
IPL: 2.15.0001
SPL: 2.15.0001
OS: 2.15.13.27
(So, this is G4)
This is SIM Unlocked phone (I am not sure regarding CID unlock, I don't know how to check - should I do something about it at all?).
I would like to upgrade to faster ROM, but I would like to keep current languages and if possible to add Hebrew fonts (any ideas?).
Voice dialing that I have right now is another important features.
So, here are the questions (btw I tried to read different posts, but still not clear)
1. Should I choose 2.3 or 3.2? Cons/Pros - any risks?
2. Should I first downgrade to RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_S hip-NoVendorID.zip and for what if (at all)
3. If something going wrong, how I could could roll back? Should I prepare for this something in advance?
4. Extended ROM. Which one you suggest to pick (for both 2.3 or 3.2) and what is giving to me.
5. Should I apply RadioClock after all this? If yes which version.
I know that probably most of questions are already answered in different post, but please help me. I am a little bit afraid to do it, so confirmation and suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Tnx again

Fantastic Boss, your Mobile & mine match 100%. But I still dont know if i should upgrde and how to. Hope we can help each other.

Hi guys,
I have a G3 but i really like to know how to perform an "right and safe upgrade solution". There is a wiki page that should help to prevent a lot of post like this.
The problem is that no one take care about it.
I have wrote a post with other questions like yours.
It is called:
"Missing important information on wiki page"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283169
Could someone help us?
I propose to start to build it to prevent all post like this and help the new users (like me).

Some answers
Hello folks,
I had a similar setup to your's and went through the same hassle of going through the posts trying to decide what to upgrade to and how.
There are two different versions out there - one is AKU 3.2 and other is AKU 2.3. The only practical difference between them is that AKU 3.2 has built in support for new features like A2DP bluetooth stereo, Security features, etc which 2.3 lacks. My choice was to go with 3.2.
There are two versions of software ROMS floating around - one is by PDAMobiz and the other by Lvsw. PDAMobiz offers a ROM with many programs pre-installed inside such that you cannot delete/uninstall them. You use them or you don't. Lvsw uses the same PDAMobiz ROM (at times) and removes these programs. You have the choice (and the chore) of installing them yourselves.
My recommendation is to go with the PDAMobiz ROM if you're a newbie since it will give you a bunch of apps that are guaranteed to work with your phone and will give you some entertainment using them.
the update process has become very easy nowadays.
1) unplug your phone from the USB cable.
2) Click on Settings -> System -> Clear Storage
3) When it reboots, "tap on the screen to continue".
4) Don't align the screen - let it sit at that screen.
5) Plug in your USB cable.
6) When your computer's ActiveSync says new device found and asks if you want to synchronize it, hit Cancel.
7) This will install the PDA as a GUEST unit - i.e. just connection no syncing of contacts, etc.
8) Run the ROM program - For PDAMobiz Roms, you can double click the main EXE file and it will go ahead and do what it needs to. For other ROMS - click on the Batch file marked Upgrade ROM.bat and let it begin.
At the end of the upgrade process, you will find that the PDA remains at the align screen - screen and the DOS window on your computer will tell you to do a hard reset. That's basically - hold the camera button, hold the voice command button (below the volume slider - both buttons on left of unit) and have someone or something press the soft reset button at the base of the unit.
When it reboots - run through the screens as normal and you'll have an updated unit.
enjoy.

I, personally, would go to lumpi's kitchen and brew up a new rom, but if you must fix your current version, then go here. The only real differences between 2002 and 2003 for me are issues of current program compatability (new progs are writted for 2003 but alot of progs are still around for 2002) and the fact that you can use 2002 as a modem for another computer, in 2003 you can't.
Just go to lumpi's kitchen, cook your rom of choice as an exe, and install it via activesync (connect pc and ppc and run the exe). A few words of wisdom..... you might end up needing to use the sd method (still not too hard) to fix a messup (ie you lost power or disconnected your pc/ppc during upgrade). Only mess with OS roms, no radio roms (lumpi's are all OS/no radio). Once you flash a 4.x.x rom via activesync, you will only be able to change your rom via the sd flash method thereafter. And also, do a search for problems people have had. I for instance burnt in KSE truefax with 4.1.16, and my unit would only power on after a softreset (no power button).
SO, iether way, good luck and be carefull. it's more overwhelming than dangerous!
WITH THAT ALL BEING SAID, IF YOU ARE AN IDIOT, HAVE A BRAINFART, OR FRY YOUR DEVICE, WE ARE HERE TO HELP, BUT NOT TO BLAME! Anything you do to your device is your decision!
BTW the sms fix is safe!
Good luck!

Reinstall windows mobile and what is the ROM all about?

Hello,
I'm newbie, so plz don't get mad, in case I have a question that has been answered earlier. I did use the search function of this forum intensively, but couldn't figure out how to do what I'd like to do.
What I know so far (plz correct me if I am wrong):
1. The ROM consists of two sections. First the extendedRom and secondly the storage section. While the storage section is writeable, the extendedRom is read-only.
2. It is possible to transfer the extendedRom memory area to the storage area, so that we have more space to store applications and data (bigStorage).
The questions that I have:
a) There is a ROM version and a ROM date. I guess the ROM date depends on the ROM-version. If that's the case, I think it's useless to indicate the date if one already knows the version, isn't it?
b) What does the radio-version tell me about a system? I did search for "radio-version". But it's hard to get the appropriate information, if every third's signature contains the 'radio-version' of a user..
c) What is the protocol version about?
d) On desktops or NBs my core system is mainly determined by my 'c:\windows' folder and the registry entries. How does it work for PPC? I still have the O2 Active User Interface and I don't like it very much. But before installing any apps, skins and plugins I would like to format my XDA mini and reinstall the core windows mobile from the scratch. Just like reinstalling a new desktop system. Is that possible? What do u think?
Thx for all coming answers,
moses3k - yet another magician lover
Hi,
For details on the rom-layout you can consult the wiki.
The dates & version numbers are apperently not from the same scheme eg radio 1.13 appeared months before rom 1.13 which came with a 1.12 radio.
Reinstallation of your magician is a hard-reset camera&power&soft-reset pressed at the time. To skip O2's 'extra's' you'll need to soft-reset just before customization starts. That's right after you get the default WM background after finishing the init.procedure.
Cheers, M

I'd Like to Upgrade to the Latest ROM, I've a MDA Compact 2

Hi everyone!
This is my first post, so I hope I get this right!
I've a T-Mobile MDA Compact 2 that has the T-Mo. branded ROM (ROM Ver: 1.12.2.23 WWE; Radio Ver:01.12.20) and I'd like to upgrade this to the latest (I've seen 1.13...) generic ROM easily!
Please consider: I've searched hi and low through these forums for upgrade tutorials, and have tried them out, but many complicate things with Big Storage and Ext. ROM etc. I've tried using the MaUpgradeUt_noID software but, after it reads the device's details (it's current ROM ver. etc), ActiveSync (on the desktop) terminates and I get an error "Error 101: Connection Error"!
All I want is to rid my MDA of T-Mo.'s software!
Currently I've hacked the regestry to change the Dialpad to WM5's default, replaced the Carrierlogo.gif with a blank, etc.
Please, anyone, can you tell me what I'm doing wrong, and why I can't upgrade my ROM!
Note: I've tried to be as detailed as I can! I'm fairly fluent in these sorts of things, so don't be scared about getting techincal, though please explain each and every step, as I've never done this before!
Thanks!
There are no other ROMs for the MDA compact II. This phone is a 'Charmer' and all the other posts in this section are talking about the 'Magician' which although the two look the same they are very different on the inside. A generic ROM is unlikely in the future because so far T-Mobile are the only carrier to produce this phone and most likely no one else will be.
Okay, I'll stick with my hacks for now. Thanks for letting me know though!
you can remove all the branding quite easily. changing the startup logo and editing the extended rom gets rid of most of it and replacing some of the .dlls and graphics with generic ones from another wm5 will get you back to the standard intellipad and dialler with working smartdialling.
All that's allready done! I've just got to change the startup graphic, but I'm not in any urgency, as I rarely restart the device!
Thanks for your input though!

larger qwerty keyboard

is there a landscape qwerty input type available that has larger keys?
Resco's Keyboard is Full Screen when in portrait mode. All keyboard vary in functionality. I personally like EzInput because of its simplicity. Other keyboards seem to throw too many options and stuff in there to please everyone.
Simplicity is the reason why the iPhones SIP keyboard is considered awesome (plus the compacitive screen)
I'm very new to the world of Windows Mobile, (i used to work with android/iPhone OS)
It's probably a stupid question, but how do i install EzInput?
Thanks in advance!
read 2nd answer
My diamond2 is 6.1, so it doesn't have EzInput.
Do you have a link/tutorial to flash it to 6.5?
Stupid questions don't exist mate Everyone has to start from the beginning. A good beginning is the search option and the wiki, that's how i learned a lot.
Now to get back to your question, look here for a lot of info on ezinput as well as other keyboards:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534678&highlight=ezinput
Thanks for the help.
I searched already on this forum / on the internet, but I didn't find any clear posts.
I'll try those links
I think I installed EzInput now, but I don't see any change of the keyboard...
Do I have to change a setting or something else?
(Do you have a link where I can see/read how to flash 6.5 on my diamond?)
I guess yours came default with that.
Well ofcourse i've got a link for you but first...
A quick guide:
Select your phone here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
Read everything you can find about flashing cooked rom's, radio's and hardspl
The choice of your radio is very personal, it's different for each country but very important 'cause it basically give you good signal
The choice of the cooked rom is very personal. Some put speed over graphics whilst others like it the other way around
It's very important and the first step of flashing to start with HardSPL'ing your device. If you don't start with that you won't be able to do anything with 6.5
After that you can choose your rom and read all the info that the cook (a rom builder) has provided for the users, there are quite some differences and things to know and learn about roms in these posts. To install a rom you need CustomRUU (installer) and some even support flashing from your microsd card.
The last part is to always hard-reset your device after you've completed 1 of the 3 basic steps. Be aware that you'll loose all the data on your phone, it's basically to turn i to the first point after you've installed the rom. So don't start installing things right away...first try a few roms 'cause you might like another one better.
Last but not least, the radio, well my friend you'll just have to read about it 'cause it depends on your region etc. That one can be flashed after you've done the first 2 steps and it basically goes the same way as flashing a rom. But first things first...start your search for hardspl!
I've taken all these steps for example from the topaz. Some devices might have other routines,...i focus on my device only, 'cause otherwise it's just too much info.. and all the info that's on this forum might be confusing at first (let's face it, there's a lot of info.) But nevertheless, my experience is that people are willing to help others here. There's a solution for everything here, if you know how and where to look.
Start reading and have fun...

Do I have to change a setting or something else?
Click to collapse
Open up your standard keyboard (in SMS for example), click on the small arrow next to the middle keyboard icon and go to "Other input options".
EzInput should be listed there, select it and youÆre good to go!
If you wish to set EzInput as default keyboard, even after restart of your device, use SIP change application. Remember to set the time-delay to 40-50 seconds!

[KITCHENS+ROMS] [WWE] [Jan.07.2010] WM6.5 23504

Downloads Available on 2nd Post
Hello Everyone! This will be my FIRST attempt at cooking a Kaiser ROM, so please bear with me. I know this needs some work, so let me know what you find, and I'll do my best to keep up.
Fair Warning: I'm dealing with an illness that keeps me down a lot, so I may not always be available to answer questions. So, if you know an answer to a question, please feel free to answer if I'm not here. I'll try to fix things as quickly as I physically can. Thanks for your understanding.
This is WM6.5 23405 - I've spent MANY hours making an Ervius Visual Kitchen for the Kaiser. I started with my Trinity Kitchen, then modified it for the Kaiser. I then cleaned up the OEM for the Kaiser a bit (it was a mess, still is somewhat).
Notice the new Task Manager accessible from the Start Button (Tap & Hold). It also "CLOSES" programs when the X is tapped. Or, you can choose to Tap & Hold the X to minimize. Thanks to amarullz! Find more information over here.
Each Different Version will be listed on Page 2 (Might Spill onto Page 3) with the Download Link for each. In each Download Link I will post the Self Extracting Kitchen, an RUU_Signed.nbh, and an AutoFlash file.
What is AutoFlash you ask? I've taken the RUU file, added the Flashing Program, and Packaged it all up into an AutoExecuting AutoFlashing Program, and, it's a smaller download than the RUU alone. Pretty cool huh? Yes, others have already done this, but I'm going to make it a standard practice from now on.
"AutoFlash (tm), Making Flashing Socially Acceptable, One Package at a Time!"
My recommendation for Flashing is:
Make sure you have Hard SPL on your Phone.
Be sure your battery is at least 50% full.
Start your phone in Tri Color Screen mode. Steps below
--Unplug your phone from USB
--Hold down the Power & Camera Buttons
--While still holding them down, press the Reset Button using the Stylus
--Release the Reset Button, but continue to hold the Power/Camera buttons until you see the Tri Color Screen
--Plug in the USB cable (if asked about installing a driver, do this), You should see USB in the White Box)
Now you can Flash.
Run the AutoFlash file for the ROM you've selected, or Flash using the Standard Flashing Program included in the Kitchen.
After flashing, please be patient as it takes a LONG time to start up.
Enjoy!
I recommend using the SkyFire Browser as your default.
Thank you to EVERYONE on XDA. Chefs, Programmers, Da_G, Cookers, Users, Noobs, everyone! You've ALL helped me to be able to do these. I'm sure I'll learn a LOT more as the days go by.
NEW!!! Color Themes!!! In Attachments!!! Also, Enable or Disable Startup Sound
Use these to Change the colors of the Today Screen, Menu Screen, and Dialer. Portrait & Landscape!
I'll fill this in when I get back from Dr's...
DOWNLOAD NOW It's currently uploading, but I have to go to bed. It's 2:38am and I have a full day of Dr Appts today. Let me know what still needs help. PS, I did notice the name when connected to ActiveSync, I'll fix that later. As I mentioned in the first post, I've used my Trinity Kitchen and modified it for this.
Immediately After Flashing, Please Setup the Keyboard following My Short Video Tutorial. Best viewed HD and Full Screen
You will find that I like to share what I get accomplished. Anytime I get a Kitchen, Cab File, Package, or anything else working, I'll be posting it for you to use.
I prefer the Ervius Visual Kitchen, and did not find one, so I created my own. Thanks for trying it out!
Also mine...
Wellcome new cook !
Appreciate your work!
I was getting ready to flash JJblaster's new ROM, and had yours on file, so thought I'd try. I barely use Manila anymore. I like the over all set up, nice and lean with MS Voice Command and Office, and plenty of room to put in other things I like. (JMLtoday, iContact) I'm not a "power" user. . not much internet stuff except wi-fi when its convenient, but seems plenty feature-rich for my daily use. . . phone, calendar, and Excel. It moves pretty fast.
Two criticisms:
1. The response to the stylus is laggy from time to time. (could it be the SPL I'm using? 3.34 - - - works great with jjblaster's ROMs)
2. There is a little flutter as the screen roles. This is most noticable in the start menu section. . I suppose it is a graphics thing with the colorful icons.
I don't know how things will be during daily wear and tear. . just thought I'd post some preliminary observations. Thank you for making your ROM available. Hope you will cook many more.
PS - I like the wallpaper
touch response
With regard to the laggy stylus response, I found this tip at Sakajati's site:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\Touch\Filter]
"MinimumTapTime"=dword:28 . . . change the tap time Decimal value from 40 to "0"
Now the response is very good.

Unfortunately, no, it does not. I am trying to research for you what needs to be changed to make 6.5 NK work.
Then, hopefully, you will be able to do the Magic you are famous for.
Ok,
Here is a working Kitchen with the 101M Native 6.5 NK and the needed OEMDriver Folder.
Good Luck, and let me know if you need anything else.

EDIT: I have added AMeBa_v0.7.1b'soft to close app in 23551 so don't need TaskManager.
