Stop auto-capitalization - General Topics

I can't find how to disable the auto-capitalization of first word ?

Under WM5 It's Start -> Settings -> Input -> Options -> untick 'Capitalize first letter of sentance'
I'm pretty sure from memory that WM 2003 was much the same.

Unselecting 'capitalize first letter of sentence' has no effect, at least on my device. I wonder why because I only have the default input method of wm5 ?
A search on the forum, make me see that some other user had a problem with auto-capitalization (but no solution):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...highlight=Capitalize+first+letter+of+sentence

this 'capitalize first letter of sentence' option is really not working.
I just tried on a fresh new wm5 image (on a TyTN, a Wizard and the PocketPC emulator), and the option has NO effect. It is always auto-capitalized.
Gajet, does disabling auto-capitalization work for you ?

Doesn't work on my Charmer too. I'm using the input Word recognition.

D'oh.
I was very happy when I wandered by this post, but it didn't work for me, either.
I have the new 2.26 T-Mobile ROM, and all sorts of things aren't working, though. >_<

So I am happy to see I am not the only one as this thing is driving me mad.
Maybe this option triggers a registry key change that is not done properly done by WM5.
Are there any people that know where is this regestry key to force the 'capitalize first letter of sentence' to DISABLED ?

Sorry for slow reply. For me the option works under Word and notes, however I do notice that adding a new entry in my calendar will continue to be capitalised.
So I think it is dependany on the application being used. What is it giving you most headache?
Personally I like the auto-capitals so I'd never noticed an issue.

Any tweaks to fix keyboard lag?

Keyboard lag is driving me nuts. Regardless of which rom I use, it's still there in one form or another.
I either get missed characters, too many characters (a problem someone else mentioned with Dutty's latest hybrid), or the thing just gets incredibly sluggish with presenting key presses.
It's almost like there's some background process that needs to clear out before the keyboard gets the full attention of the device.
Anyone got any ideas?
try turning off "Word Completion" feature, it might help
"Start" ==> "Settings" ==> "Personal" Tab ==> "Input" ==> "Word Completion" Tab ==> Uncheck
Good luck
Ive tried that and its still lagging

If you have TITL and flashed HTC rom, install the attached CAB file and SR.
If you have TyTN II and flashed AT&T rom, do this:
Remove the following value from your registry:
Find this key: HKLM\Hardware\Devicemap\Keybd
Either delete "CWSLayout" or set it = 0

I've got a original TyTN II and mine lags aswel
I quit using the keyboard altogether. I use the cootek keyboard (http://www.cootek.com/index.html) I can type faster on it than the keyboard anyway. Just took a couple of days to get used to it.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in this then. It seems a real shame that a device as powerful as the Kaiser still has these problems with keyboard lag.
I might try installing a touch screen one again. But then, if I'm not going to use the keyboard, I might as well go back to my Touch
What about settings/buttons/up/down control I usually increase the repeat rate a bit and it improves for me.
In addition to turning off Word Completion, I also unchecked the Autocorrect option.
I immediately noticed that all of my keyboard lag problems disappeared.
Tried all of the above so far, and still have the problem. To be honest this single thing makes me want to get rid of the Kaiser completely. It's so annoying!
ok heres my problem..... i have an att tilt and i flashed to the HTC rom but now my symbol keys are different and i ran the keyboard fix and its still the same same anyone have any suggestions?

Follow the instructions in TaurusBullba's thread about the Tilt keyboard here. Worked for me when I was running HTC-based roms.
this problem is a mixture of things such as your Kaiser going through the stored words with Auto-correct on as well as other things. the best thing to do is turn auto-correct and complete off as well as increase the repeat rate set the first delay to short and repeat rate to fast and you should be good to go. also clear your stored words list every day and it will type as fast as your fingers can go.
Please, someone answer the question: does everyone have this stupid keyboard lag/double letter problem or is it just some units? I want to know whether it's worth demanding a replacement or if I will just get the same problem all over again
I just changed my settings to the above posts and my tilt is fast now.
No lagging problems.
Hi:
I have a 2 week old Tilt (stock ROM), no keyboard lag at all.

I was having the same EXACT issues as everyone was complaining about but once I increased both rates in my button option and went to the "input" and xt9 option in programs(I have that because I have the dualtouch rom from dutty) and turned off word completion and all the rest of the options, I have absolutely no lag now.

If you will go to settings -> buttons and raise the repeat speed it will fix this problem.
Tweak it up and down until you get it where you like it. I noticed that if i put it all the way up it was putting in too many letters.

How to disable auto-capitalization after a period?

every time i type a period, it wants to capitalize the next word, i disabled the option not to capitalize but obviously there are settings in windows that don't do a damn thing and appear to be there for no reason, why is the option there if it doesn't work!
anyone know how to i stop it from capitalizing? wm 6.1
You went to settings -> input -> options?
Maybe it needs a reset as well.
I also have been unable to turn off capitalization at the start of a sentence.. the setting start>settings>input>options>checkbox:capitalize first letter.. makes no difference - soft reset after change tried (wm6) really annoying..
ditto, I always wonder how to do this since I always type japanese so it is a little annoy for me
i gave up on this... searched and searched.. apparently no one else seems to be annoyed by this, otherwise we'd probably have a workaround.
i'll look more when i get time.

X1a - WON'T select other inputs than "Keyboard" even after full reset

Hey. This isn't a big problem, as far as I can tell, but it is worrying.
In the Settings\Personal\Input area I can select all the input methods, however upon pressing "OK", nothing changes. Returning to the Input area shows that it's still set to "Keyboard". I initially thought the problem may have come about from me installing the blackstone keyboard, but after a full reset, wiping all data and programs, it still doesn't work the way it should. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
This confused me as well, but I figured out the solution to the problem. Go to a place where you could use an input method (like writing a text message) and from there change your input method. Then it will be changed.
no i think with most winmo 6 and 6.1 machine itll re load the microsoft keyboard evey boot there after
this app made by sleuth i think may help

Dude! It works beautifully! Still can't fathom why it didn't just do it in the menu, I mean what's it for then? I suppose must be there just to adjust settings and so on for the various input methods that you can then select from the popup menu when you're actually inputting things. Thanks for the help.

How to stop the word correction nazi???

Every time I type sms, my TP auto corrects and forces me to use words from its dictionary, instead of my intended word. Then it won't let me change its word. I have tried to turn off auto-correct and set suggested words to 0, but no luck. Please someone tell me how to stop this.
are u sure T9 is not selected?
I have same problem. With sms messages the word correction screws up my messages. I turned off the suggest words option under advanced config...but doesn't help the sms/mms messaging helper. Haven't tried registry hacks...might have to explore the registry a bit...
Manoli
Yes I am sure it is not selected. I am using slide-out keyboard anyway, but am sure T9 is not selected. Please someone must have come up with some way to stop this [email protected]@@@ing thing from changing all my words.
There should be T9 as a secondary function on one of the buttons on the slide out keyboard. For the FUZE it is Fn+right arrow. It brings up a menu to choose ABC or T9.
turning off word completion in either t9 or keyboard mode doesn't matter. The word completion still comes up. Doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off!
Try This. this should do the trick... hopefully!

I have disable word correction using the Advanced confing App 3.3
The Advanced Config. 3.3 application has been a great tool for me so far and allows for many customizations. I am using a Touch Pro and it was able to stop word correction on my device. If you are going to install Advanced Config tool, you will need to install Microsoft .Net compact framework 3.5 first. Hope this is helpful.
Anyone using the NATF fix? A few questions:
1. Does it solve the forced changing of words?
2. Does it stop all corrections such as auto capitalizing of 1st word in sentence? - (which I like)
3. Any side effects of using this program?
I like people like NATF that solve problems. Kind of a hero.
Krizza, I also use AC3.3. Under INPUT I changed suggested words to 0 (default). This didn't seem to do anything for sms. Is there another setting somewhere?
maybe it isn't Advanced Config......

I just assumed that it was AC3.3 that was stopping the "suggest words" function. I have mine set to 0 (default) as well. My Touch Pro no longer suggests words when I'm texting, but I just checked out ,my phone and I have also adjusted START > SETTINGS > INPUT > WORD COMPLETION then I have unchecked the box that says "suggest words when entering text"......maybe that is what has been working for me all along.....hehehe
Krizza, I've had that un-checked all along. However the problem seems to have fixed itself when I reselected 0 (default) in AC3.3 then soft reset. It wasn't instant though, it seemed to correct after a few days. odd.

SIP menu takes a long time to open

I have a Gene (p3400i) device.
Sometimes, my 'sip menu' (the one that pops up when you tap the arrow next to the keyboard icon) takes very long to open... up to a minute some times.
I don't know what causes this behaviour - sometimes its after I install a new sip and sometimes after I uninstall one. Nothing will bring it back to normal, not even a soft-reset.
However, if I make a full backup with SPB backup, hard-reset and restore the problem is solved. Despite the fact that SPB backup restores every part of the registry and memory.
Any suggestions? Is this common? Does someone know the exact cause? And can it be solved with out a tedious hard-reset and restore?
Most recently it began when I used a registry cleaning program to clean out some junk registry items.
all my devices have been like that since wm5

Have you ever found a way to solve it? Apart from the backup-and-restore thing I pointed out?
nop my devices been like that directly from hardreset all of them
directly from the store too with the rom they came with

You mean that all your devices have taken 60s+ for the sip menu to pop up even without you doing anything (installing/uninstalling SIPS or REG edits)?
That's odd. I have what is probably the slowest winmo device around (the htc gene) and on the stock rom the SIP menu still usually popped up in under 5s. Its just that sometimes, this behaviour would suddenly change....
Speed up SIP display and overall performance increase
This has been discussed many many times.
Since WM5 I do the following and it works extremely well, I wonder why it isn't more popular:

Wow! I had no idea about this!
Actually, come to think about it, the backup and restore routine that worked for me essentially amounted to this I guess...
Still, thanks!
Damn this!
I'd personally much rather be able to hide the menu all together. I really never change my input methods, so having it there and hitting it accidentally is really just a pain in the a**.
So, basically what I'm asking is if there is a way to *hide* the menu chooser all together?
Idealy I'd like to do away with it, and have it moved to the Start > settings> menu. that way there's no making any mistakes.
See my post from a couple weeks ago for reference.
