At the moment, I'm using hx2490 with 1.02 ROM from hx2490b. It runs fine so far except some annoying Acrobat Reader bug and some problems on other apps. XDA II is quite cheap here and I see a lot of progress in WM5. I would like to know if WM5 in XDA II has anything better than my current device to make me consider switching to it (I have cell phone so don't count about phoning). Is it really fast as WM2003?
Thanks.
no 2005 is slower then 2003(se)
on any device not just himalaya
it have more eye candy
ms dont feel they have to optimize as much
when faster and faster cpu's comes out
2005 devices in general use flash as storage
and thats slower then the ram 2003 flavours use
so as faster no
but it dont loose data at hardreset
and got some nice features here and there
i just flashed the wm5 rom on my blue angel. (XdaII)
to be precise this one
Helmi_WM2k5_AKU3.2_32mb_v1.3.2_16mb_bitpool_32mbRamdisk
i'll tell you now this RULEZ!!!
i dunno about all the techinical malaki but in reality when i'm using this i find that it runs just as fast as wm2003se because of mamaich's wonderful find about sum pagepool memory watever.
all i know is that without overclocking its just as fast and with a few tweaks with pocket hack master 2006 i get it at almost 600mhz and it is definately MUCH zippier.
i tell ya ppl may ***** about the 2005 slowing down n stuff but in my experience it is definately worth it.
neway hope that answers ur question
l8r
Could you tell me about pocket hack master 2006?
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=7258
thats pretty much everything u need to know without buying it n tryin it out, beleive me its worth every cent!
u can scan for speed settings, it takes like 20 mins but when its done u have heaps of speeds to choose from that u set as favorites to quick select from the toolbar. its really simple to use and i think quite powerful.
for example it used to take me 5-10 seconds to load roms on 2003se from storage using
pocket gba, now on 2005 with phm it takes around 3 seconds.
and u can put the speed down to save battery. even if ur using 2003 this tool is well worth it...cough*it pwnz xcpu scalar*cough

Hello, i have as well picked up my polaris just today, but i didnt buy it from the local distributors of htc ( ace hellas ) i bought an english version since i hate greek on my phones etc. Unfortunately it came as silver edition, tho i cant really complain about the looks of it.
My question now, is there any overclock utility for the qualcomm platform or shall i not mess with it ?
I installed my old destinator 6 in it, 6.1.1 edition that is, and i was wondering, is there a way to enable a-gps or is it always enabled ? ( destinator 7 sucks , well the version i had did, the ui didnt scroll map around and it was pissing me off ).
PS : I havent used it yet, i just installed the screen protector and i am atm charging it.
Any info would be much appreciated, thanks a lot.
You do not ned to enable a-GPS. Just run QuickGPS in order to get the current satellite positions for the next 6 days. Then satlock is much faster.
a-GPS wil work if the signal is present, its mostly used on internal buildings where GPS is required, obviously using standard tech you wouldnt get a signal but a-gps uses a series of special transmitters to relay the correct location, rather cleaver really but utterly usless for 90% of folk.
quick GPS is ok, but to be honest ive never had a problem locking on to sats in anything more than a couple of mins
these people are correct. a-gps is in all gps enabled devices by default as far as i know that are manufactured by htc. quickgps is just there to make the time to get a lock less. it can cut the lock time down even 50% in some cases.
best example i have is a few days ago quick gps expired on my athena and the lock took id say 6 min bc i was inside a min. i closed tomtom and opened quickgps to update and afterwords it was maybe 3 min if not less.
overclocking is not really needed. ur looking at a dual core qualcomm 7200. 1 core handles pretty much voice while the other 400 mhz core carries the gaming and other heavier things. its not needed from expirence with my hermes which was a single core 400mhz.
btw: i recommend u try tomtom. i find it the best for ME and u might too. hope this helped u.
For quick gps, put this file on windows directory

Tomtom unfortunately doesnt support greece so far, only athens ( capital ) and i dont live at it so destinator is the best choice for me atm.

I cant say i am in the wrong forum tbh, i didnt came here to ask for gps programms, only some specific questions.
Thank you for your link though, i knew the skin was wrong and it wasnt working correctly but i guess i was too lazy to fix it.

I strongly disagree with no need for overclocking.
A tool for overclocking is very needed, for running some emulators (for example the PS1 Emulator). I think you need at least 500 (maybe 600) Mhz to get smooth fps.
don't know if this has been asked, but....
I know there is a overclocking util (BatteryStatus) for the older 200Mhz Touch.
But I got the CDMA HTC Touch (MP6900 ??) with the 400Mhz speed cpu, and the "BateryStatus" util does not work on it... actually it craped out the phone many times tonight... had to do many hard resets!! Crap !!
So.... is there a overclocking util for this version (runing windows mobile pro 6) any one know ???
thanks

Can't be done. A search would have told you that.

Why would you want to overclock it anyway? The battery usage would be increased and you would probably shorten the lifespan of the device....these things aint cheap you know
400 MHz in a pocket device like these is easily fast enough!
dont know if i agree with that... windows mobile isn't the best operating system because it's sloppy. so we need faster pocketpc's in all honesty.
even 400mhz isn't fast enough.
i'm also curious if its possible to squeeze just a little extra out of it (safely).
i love how my Touch works and how it's setup with windows mobile 6 and now this Manila 2D interface... but it's just always been slow. Even straight out of the box. I recently lost my phone and got a new one... Opened up the brand new one and it's just as slow as my other one.
i made registry tweaks too to increase ram usage and all those good things yo u can do there. no good in my opinion too slow for 2008... 2009 now.
great hardware. poor software. want to compensate for that by making the good hardware even better...

Hi dude, read your post and i wonder if you search the XDA for new 6.5roms esp "optimised" ? I heard XDA has most of the roms for "all" wm phone also uni roms. use the search engine found at the top under " search ". I have downloaded a "Touch" but forgot where they are located cos im a downloader, not a note writer

So, what version of the Touch do you have?
Hi guys
I'm new to all this, just got a Touch Pro the other day dirt cheap which was so slow it was almost unusable. I've flashed hard spl and a rom with Mobile 6.5 rather than the stock 6.1 but sinse doing this the total memory available has changed from 288 to 200 and the % usage has risen to 26%ish before to 42% now on bootup.
Could someone please explain this, do I need to make changes to the pagefile or something?
Also I'm looking for a mobile "msconfig" to change startup programs that are loaded to free up more memory could anyone help me with this?
Thanks
Unless you're actually getting memory errors or the phone is locking up, I would say you don't have a problem. Just ignore the different values (are you sure you had 288 M of ram; I don't think so). 200 M of ram is plenty, and you should be glad you're using more. If you don't use it, it's kind of pointless. More ram usage usually means things run faster. Trust your chef.
SK Tools allows you to tweak your startup (among many other things). But unless you actually have a real (and not perceived) problem, I wouldn't worry about it. People get way too caught up in the % ram. I don't even use the quick menu any more, and it's kind of a relief to not see it all the time.
You can decrease the page pool with a page pool changer or hex editor. It sounds like you have a 14 M page-pool, which seems pretty reasonable. If you drop the pagepool to 6 M, you have another 8 M of available ram, but your ram% will go up. I'd just forget about it if I were you. Trust your chef.

Like Ted said, the numbers you are reporting are not an issue at all. Be careful tweaking your page pool too much. I use Memaid to tweak my settings and find that the devices default settings, which are the ones cooked in from the kitchen, provide the best performance.
Thanks for the replies but the reason I asked is because the Touch Pro has 288mb of ram total which was displayed in Win 6.1 while 200 is reported as the total in Windows 6.5, and the fact the % went up so much reflects the error in the amount of memory detected for use. I know the % don't mean much but it looks like i have 88mb less available to use?
Thanks I'll look into SK Tools.
Cheers
I think you're getting the 288 MB ram from the specs (it's the size of the chip, I guess, but not the amount of free program memory); that's not the available ram, though, in use. I have no idea how much free ram I had on the stock fuze rom, but it wasn't anywhere near 288. I currently have 197 M free ram with a 16 M page pool on a 6.5 rom. Your ram is perfectly normal, it's what everyone has. Flash back to the stock rom and see how much ram you have then-it won't be 288. (Now that I think of it, I think I had ~200 M free on the stock rom.)
There's no error in the % ram at startup, either. That is entirely by design. If you want to see a lower number, use advanced config to either lower or disable the caches. Then enjoy the low program memory usage and the sucky experience. More ram usage = better performance. You still have 110 M of free ram at startup. That's more than most devices have in total. Use it. Enjoy it. Don't waste it by not using it. That is my advice to you.
If you don't believe me, just take look at NATF's 6.1 rom vs. his 6.5 rom. He's got 193 M free ram in the 6.5 rom (with a 20 M page pool), and 200 M free ram in the 6.1 rom. Not sure what the PP is in the latter, but I suspect it's 16 M. You can also look up stock or stock-like roms in the rom forum. They're all going to be in the same ball park, depending on the paging.
Ok thanks, I was raising the issue as well because I have a Sony Experia running a similar rom with less memory on the board but it still reports 200mb and it feels quite alot smoother than the htc, and not just with touch 3D, is this the general concencus that experias for whatever reason are faster?
Thanks
Not too many people have xperias, so I couldn't tell you. Does it have a faster processor? I couldn't tell you why it feels faster. Try some different roms until you get one you like.
The processor is the same and I am using one of the most popular cooked speed roms on here.
I'm waiting for my XDA Exec to come
Can anyone suggest a good ROM with long battery life, short of bugs with lot RAM memory for a good start with Uni? I'm not new to Windows Mobile but only to Universal's forum and don't know much about ROMs for 64mb RAM mem. Every I find new is for 128mb recommended amount of RAM.
No matter if it's 6.1, 6.0, 5.0 but 6.5 takes too much memory for 64mb RAM device i think and wouldn't be good but i love colour background in menu
Go for Tomal WM6.1 8.2 or 8.5 versions
Those ROM´s are very stable and good performance and battery life
Yep!
Tomal dose amazinbg Stable and quick running ROM
I'll have a pdaViet ROM but don't know what one exactly for that moment.
Just waiting to come a parcel via mail.
PS. Someone will ask me why I bought Uni not something new
It's one of the best PDA at low price (toshi g900 is good too but have smaller screen dimensions) and I bought a modem so WiFi and big screen would be good to Internet browsing and a hardware keyboard is good for that too.
Well to suggest i'll go for Tomal or Luca15thebig. as they are the 2 most active chefs here in uni so you can expect lots of surprises from them...
Thanks for your help guys
I'll test Tomal and Luca15thebig roms. PDAViet Rom that I have now is good too, without bugs and Ram almost always stay on 27mb free. Don't know how's with battery life because my ac adapter came broken and I have to wait for a week to change to another.

double post that was in post #6
I'm using Tmobile + SDhc support on wm5 - the fastest, most responsive and most stable rom I've tried so far. Being using it with 8GB for some days now and no hang up, everything just works smoothly fine. If only someone could add flash disk on it, this would be definitely awesome!!

yes wm5 roms are stable as it was originally used in uni.. but wm 6.X were ported and does add more functionality are fast and stable depending on the rom... well it's the matter of personal judgment so some might like wm5 some might like 6.1 and some might like 6.5...
Hi!
Is someone working on a new windows version for Uni? Where are the CHEFs? It's been some time now that we have no new version for our beloved Uni. It seems that either the CHEFs are busy working to bring something good for the Uni or have the great CHEFs departed the forum. Please, do come up and let us test something new, to enjoy a new build of WM6.5 or WM7.
Looking forward to have something tempting for our Uni.
Yes, it would be nice to have a new ROM!
Tomal still active, I read a post from Thingonaspring too.
Hope they have something on the oven
Things are slowing down big style on this forum though, Im just starting to go through all the roms to find the best to suit my needs and stick with it. the only thing i was considering was the 128mb upgrade IF its worth doing, not sure on that one though. anyone who has had an upgrade would like to comment i would be grateful.

@responderman
If you want to find out what 128mb is like, just flash a 128mb rom to your 64mb uni. It'll work fine and you'll be able to see the benefits of having no pagepool (it's a lot quicker). The only drawback is that with no memory management the phone will crash a lot when memory fills up. So just do a test, see what you think then flash back to 64mb rom.

I guess no as the minimum specs are too high for WM7.
*****
this is not good, looks like i will be getting HD2 then.
That's not good at all, but I like the QWERTY keyboard and form factor of my Universal, so I will stay with it HD2 is good hardware platform, but it's not for me.
true,
Uni has good features, like a Full QWERTY key board.
which the HD2 dosen't do,
Although HD2 has bigger screen, Bigger Memmory, Better Camera, Touchflo 3D G-Senor
Whic are the main things i really now like :/
