ActiveSync, Outlook 2003 and email format (WINMAIL.DAT issue - General Topics

I have ActiveSync 4.2.0 and it is giving me a lot of trouble with WINMAIL.DAT files. I will start from the beginning...
I recently realised that some friends cannot read my emails with attachments sento from my laptop with Outlook 2003. After a long serach i realised that in the general Outlook options the mail format is set to "Let Outlook decide" but for every single contact the email properties are set to "Send as RTF". So I started changing back to "Let Outlook decide" for every contact, just to realise that, after a sync betweem Outlook and my PPC (QTEK S200, WM5, ActiveSync 4.2.0) the winmail.dat problem came back again. So I went to check and, guess what: all the contacts that I had modified and had to be syncronised, had set back the property set to "Send as RTF".
So, it looks like ActiveSync is setting by default, for every contact syncronised, the sending format to RTF, whatever is the value of the property in Outlook.
ANy idea?

Tips for: WLM (Mobile) / Outlook / MSN Contacts

Many persons have problems with setting up the new Messenger, maybe I have some tips for you.
1) !!! Don't install WLM Mobile yet or remove it as quick as possible !!!!
2) First backup the WLM contactlist on your PC
(saving instant messaging contacts, creating a .ctt file)
3) Close Outlook if it's open and search for the PST file.
Copy that file at a save place. It's better to change the default location in the Application data of your profile anyway.
4) Open Outlook and WLM on your PC.
For all the contacts which you have in both programs, copy the e-mail adress from the WLM to the IM-adress field in the contact card of Outlook. For the contacts which are in WLM but not yet in Outlook, these will be created automaticly after syncing.
5) Did a lot of work in Outlook? -> Make another copy of your PST.
6) Sync all the contacts from Outlook to your phone by ActiveSync / WMDC.
7) Now install WLM Mobile
8) Reboot
9) Login Windows Live
10) I like the Windows Live Applications, but not the search. I sync the contacts but I don't sync the mail (cause I don't have Hotmail).
11) If you open the Contacts now on your phone, you'll see a VCard icoon for regular contacts and a Messenger icon for IM contacts. For the IM contacts you see if they are online or not (even you can see if you've blocked someone).
12) In Outlook you'll have to do some work to correct the created WLM contacts (give them a Full Name for example)
Syncing is slightly different when you sync with a PC, Exchange server and a mobile.
The most easy way is to make sure all changes are in Exchange server. So first sync everything and then flash the mobile. Clean all the contacts and appointments in Outlook (mostly home). Sync the mobile with Exchange server, then add the Outlook. For the rest is it the same.
If you don't clean your Outlook (contacts + appointments), it's possible you'll have everything twice. Tested it here (Netherlands) with a HTC P3600 (LVSW or mUn ROM), WMDC (Vista) and Outlook 2007.

Activesync HTML Email issues

hey ppl
big thx to Ivan!
Im using his V3 orig ROM, and cant get Pocket Outlook to display HTML Email from Activesync.
it is happy to display HTML from a POP3 account I have set up
however the option to choose HTML is greyed out for the activesync outlook whenever email is selected under Activesync connection settings. When I disable email, it will let me choose HTML, but re-enabling it looses the change
According to this: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb158527.aspx
ya should be able to view HTML email msgs synced from the PC
I was wondering if anyone could kindly please help.
thanks
SOLVED
w00t!! Microsoft released an update to Device Center that just appeared in my Windows Update list 2 days ago.
It has some small UI improvements, including the ability to change delivery format of Outlook Activesync email to HTML.
Im a happy camper now

ActiveSync error syncing notes

I have just changed my Outlook profile (in order to overcome a problem where I couldn't get ActiveSync to sync contacts) but am now having a problem syncing notes. I get the following error message:
"Microsoft Outlook
Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the netowork and access information."
After clicking "Ok" everything else syncs fine (contacts, tasks, e-mail and calendar and a third party Outlook Journal sync). When the sync finishes there is an entry in the sync list next to notes saying "Attention required".
I am syncing with ActiveSync 4.5 on Windows XP SP3 and Outlook 2002 on a local computer not an exchange server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated for this annoying problem.
I have the same OS's and versions and same problem. Only, it sometimes gives the error, sometimes doesn't
SOLVED
After much trial and error and some pretty fruitless searching on the internet I seem to have hit on a solution:
Delete the original ActiveSync relationship (File/Delete Mobile Device)
Create a new Outlook Profile (Start/Control Panel/Mail)
Start Outlook...which creates a new .pst file
Copy the data from your old .pst file accross (this the tedious bit especially since you need to re-create custom views and e-mail accounts)
Re-sync which will create a new relationship with the new Outlook profile
Hope that helps anyone else with the problem.
Also, when you have started outlook (visible mode) there is no worries

Windows Live and Outlook Sync

So I’m using Outlook 2007 (set up with my hotmail account via outlook connector) syncing with my Touch Pro. On my Pro, I also have Windows Live, with my hotmail account syncing with the hotmail server. I have this set up so I will recive my hotmail e-mail and contacts when I’m away from my computer. However, I notice that there are two entries (and sometimes three) for every contact, the Outlook contact, the Live contact, and then sometimes a non-live contact. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Am I just stuck with choosing between my Outlook contacts and Hotmail contacts?
I hope this isn’t too confusing.
Thanks
In the Windows Live options on your device, where you choose to sync your Live contacts, you can select 'merge dublicate contacts'. Have you checked this option?

outlook folder created after sync

Hi guys. Really need some help here. I have been using this forum for a while now and have found some amazing information that has really helped, but I cannot seem to sort this problem out. I have had this problem for about one and a half years and just learnt to live with it. I have asked on microsoft forums and no one can really help. I think it is the way I am trying to explain it or something I am doing wrong in the setup of outlook.
On my computer I have Office Outlook 2007 with a hotmail and tiscali email accounts within Outlook. On my phone (Xperia X1. Have tried Win Mob 6.1, 6.5) I had a Tiscali and hotmail account which I could send/receive from. After using active sync there is now an "outlook" folder on my phone. Every time I sync it moves my emails from tiscali to outlook on my phone (i supose because they are in my tiscali folder in outlook on my PC). The problem I have is that I cannot send/receive from the outlook folder on my phone. So If I want to reply to a message that is on my phone I have to copy and paste it back into a tiscali mail.
The outlook "folder" on my phone is an account.... i think?.... as it comes up in the account list along with tiscali, sms/ mms, hotmail and new account.
If I go into the tiscali one, i hit "menu" down the bottom and then I can hit "send/receive". This is all fine.
If I go into my outlook one i hit "menu" and "send/receive" is greyed out.
If I go "tools", "options" and select the outlook account the only screen I get is "e mail sync options" where I can select a few item regarding downloading from my laptop when I sync.
If I do the same in the tiscali account I can edit account setup, send and receive schedule etc.
???? I am lost!!
Thanks, Tristan
