Many persons have problems with setting up the new Messenger, maybe I have some tips for you.
1) !!! Don't install WLM Mobile yet or remove it as quick as possible !!!!
2) First backup the WLM contactlist on your PC
(saving instant messaging contacts, creating a .ctt file)
3) Close Outlook if it's open and search for the PST file.
Copy that file at a save place. It's better to change the default location in the Application data of your profile anyway.
4) Open Outlook and WLM on your PC.
For all the contacts which you have in both programs, copy the e-mail adress from the WLM to the IM-adress field in the contact card of Outlook. For the contacts which are in WLM but not yet in Outlook, these will be created automaticly after syncing.
5) Did a lot of work in Outlook? -> Make another copy of your PST.
6) Sync all the contacts from Outlook to your phone by ActiveSync / WMDC.
7) Now install WLM Mobile
8) Reboot
9) Login Windows Live
10) I like the Windows Live Applications, but not the search. I sync the contacts but I don't sync the mail (cause I don't have Hotmail).
11) If you open the Contacts now on your phone, you'll see a VCard icoon for regular contacts and a Messenger icon for IM contacts. For the IM contacts you see if they are online or not (even you can see if you've blocked someone).
12) In Outlook you'll have to do some work to correct the created WLM contacts (give them a Full Name for example)
Syncing is slightly different when you sync with a PC, Exchange server and a mobile.
The most easy way is to make sure all changes are in Exchange server. So first sync everything and then flash the mobile. Clean all the contacts and appointments in Outlook (mostly home). Sync the mobile with Exchange server, then add the Outlook. For the rest is it the same.
If you don't clean your Outlook (contacts + appointments), it's possible you'll have everything twice. Tested it here (Netherlands) with a HTC P3600 (LVSW or mUn ROM), WMDC (Vista) and Outlook 2007.

Hi,
I've had a quick search and I can't find anything related to this problem of mine so here goes:
What's the deal with Windows Live and Outlook synchronisation? This seems to be a useless implementation and it's completely ruined the phone for me.
One of the reasons I have a Windows Mobile phone is so that I can manage all my contacts in Outlook 2007 at home and sync them with Outlook 2003 at work.
I keep my msn contacts seperate from these contacts, as I don't have MSN at work and I have lots of contacts on msn whose phone numbers I don't have.
Suddenly with this new version of Windows Live I have a choice of either not using messenger and keeping my contacts clean, or signing in and having it copy all my msn contacts into pocket Outlook so they appear when I load contacts on my phone.
It seems to be duplicating all my contact information (I had some contacts in MSN as I use hotmail at home) and there's no way to merge them. If I delete the contact with the msn logo, it disappears from messenger with no way to get it back (on the phone). If I delete the other one, it removes it from outlook.
Does anyone know of a way to merge the live contacts with outlook properly (i.e. not just by ticking that box in the options)?
The only way to get my contacts back to normal after Windows Live messes them up is to switch user in Windows Live and restore my contacts from my SPB Backup.
This is really frustrating me and I am shocked that Microsoft are still releasing such poor products to market
Mit
If you delete the msn contact and than get on the outlook contact, press menu press, "To Windows Live" and than take option "both", and use the email thats of you're contact msn account. now it will be merged.
Hope this helps
Hi there,
I got a WM6 phone full of contacts. I've been using the phone with Windows
Live and I have spent hours tidying up contacts with MSN live accounts and
so on.
As I reinstalled the OS on my PC, I deleted the partnership of my WM6 phone in order to start fresh. Everything works fine if wasn't for the fact that my existing contacts simply WON'T SYNC. I'm using Windows XP SP2 with Activesync 4.5.0 and Outlook 2007 (installing SP1 as I write this).
I tried to tick/untick the option to sync my contacts. All I got as a result is that ALL of my non live-enable contacts have been whiped out (yes, OUCH!)
If I create a new contact on the phone (outlook contact only) or on the PC the new contact will sync. But as for existing contacts they are simply ignored!
If I copy an existing contact, IT WON'T SYNC
If I try to modify an existing contact, IT WON'T SYNC
If I try to create a new Windows Live contact, IT WON'T SYNC
I tried to delete the profile and parterships to start fresh but I got no luck. Could someone please advise? I'm about to to flip out here!
Thank you all in advance!
Regards,
P
So I’m using Outlook 2007 (set up with my hotmail account via outlook connector) syncing with my Touch Pro. On my Pro, I also have Windows Live, with my hotmail account syncing with the hotmail server. I have this set up so I will recive my hotmail e-mail and contacts when I’m away from my computer. However, I notice that there are two entries (and sometimes three) for every contact, the Outlook contact, the Live contact, and then sometimes a non-live contact. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Am I just stuck with choosing between my Outlook contacts and Hotmail contacts?
I hope this isn’t too confusing.
Thanks
In the Windows Live options on your device, where you choose to sync your Live contacts, you can select 'merge dublicate contacts'. Have you checked this option?
First post....first question
Hi guys, i was looking for a way to syncronize my hotmail account with pocket outlook, is ti possible??
On my pc i've installed "Outlook Connector" to sync them...
...something similar for ppc??
I searched through the forum but i haven't found anything
Sorry for my bad bad English...
Probably a lot easier to use Pocket MSN.
If you try and create an Outlook account to hotmail from Mobile 5 onwards it will probably start Pocket MSM anyway.
you can go to hotmail's website, look for the perferences requires to setup your mail account.. and then go to Messaging/Menu/Options and click New Account
insert all email account properties.. and voila.
On my phone that would not work. (Qtek 9100 WM5.0(Wizard))
As soon as you create an account of the form [email protected], the New Account wizard is cancelled and you are dumped into Pocket MSN whether you like it or not.

I think "nir36" means to go with your PC on Option page of your hotmail account...and than select the option to redirect all received mail to a NEW account!!
Am i right??
If so...i'd like to use my actual address, but if there's no way...
...i'll use Pocket MSN
Thank you guys!!
How to get Hotmail on your Windows Mobile phone
The easiest way (if you want over-the-air sync, data charges apply of course) is to use Windows Live Mobile:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334621
Install the cab, run the program and enter your hotmail address and your password. you can then choose whether you want to sync your address book and/or your emails to the phone.
Your Hotmail account appears within Pocket Outlook as a separate account.
After the first sync, you can then set up your emails to be pushed to the phone, sync'd at regular intervals, or only when you initiate it.

wow, this is a real complete application, i'm playing with it now and i'ts ok!!
the wizard is simple and everithing works; it creates a "Windows Live" account under the Outlook one in the ppc!!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Sadly, Windows Live Mobile still doesn't allow task and calendar sync with Windows Live Calendar.
So, if you want to go a step further and cut your ties with the PC and abandon ActiveSync altogether, I'd suggest you use Google Calendar for that function instead.
Web (Google Calendar) to phone (Pocket Outlook) two-way sync can be achieved via Google Mobile Sync which uses Exchange, and can run in parallel with Windows Live Mobile.
For PC (Outlook Calendar) to web (Google Calendar) two-way sync, just use Google Calendar Sync.
Voila! No need to dock your phone to your PC for PIM synchronization.
i assumed you have WM6..
A related question, I used to sync my hotmail account using pocket outlook, but here is what I actually wanted:
1. I want to download the mails as usual, but do NOT want them to be deleted from the server when I delete them from the device, is there anyway to do it (I am using WM 6.1 Pro and my hotmail account is non premium).
Thanks
Experts, I'm desperate! I gave my lil bro my old phone, but stupid enough of me, I left all of my settings the way it was, also the exchange settings with work. He logged on with msn and synced all his contacts, agenda, tasks etc with my contacts etc. And now I lost everything! How can I do a roll back?
Old phone is an WM 6.1 HTC touch cruise (phone of my lil bro), the new phone is the HTC HD2 WM 6.5 (my own), don't think this will matter though.
Thanks!

I still have the old outlook.ost file, where I found my 'old' contacts and calendar items. But when I tried to sync it says it need to make contact with the server, but I dont want that! How can I achieve this?
Windows 7 with windows mobile device centre 6.1
Hi,
- disconnect the line to the server, that there is no syncronization
- put the .ost file in the Outlook directory
- start Outlook
- copy inside of the open outlook the folders calender and contacts from the exchange part to the personal part of outlook
- export these two new folders to .pst files
- connect to the exchange server and sycronize
- import the .pst files into the syncronized exhange folders
That's it

LOL idd, I did this just an hour ago and it works ! Tnx for your reply!
Would now be a good time to suggest installing PIMBackup and scheduling a regular backup of PIM data?
Mine does it at 4am and has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. My own fault for trying to maintain OTA synch with more than one source.
