[AKU 2.2] Any news when it will be released? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 Software Upgrading

The "newest" Dopod ROM is from 24th of April. Is there any news when a new ROM will be released? It has been two months already, there must some updates in the pipeline. The Wizard seems to move faster, while it was released almost half a year earlier :?

Yeah, I'm realy sick about this. The Wizard has been injected with new software versions, with Aku 2.2 and 2.3. We still haven't passed the 2.0. HTC and all the reselers, dopod qtek and imate, must think about this. There is still plenty of bugs with wm2005 and we want all of them resolved.
I'm having problems with Wifi, lack of support to wpa2 encriptation and problems with bigger wpa keys; and with the notifications and alarms, a few days ago all of my alarms and rings stopped for good.

I doubt we will see anything until August. I wouldn't mind some type of leak at least to hold me over.
No offense, but this has to be your first PocketPC/Smartphone When companies promise something they never keep their promise
We have to wait and see how threads like this one emerge on the different forums. We've seen the ROM months ago but we don't get the real deal any day soon I'm afraid
My Palm distributor already have a test rom from PALM

it is a sd card update - as soon as I get it and test it I will post it
That's the first I've heard of a test ROM! Makes me even more impatient!!!
I hope the update comes soon at least a leak because i need the internet share and don't want to buy pda-net using bluetooth and wm6 just looks cool
Been using Internet Share on my HTC Wizard. Excellent application, so, so easy to use!
I know my dad has it on his 8525 but is there any way i can install internet sharing onto my 750 without rom update ?

I hope this person can actually extract it, I am not in the mood for someone to tease me and my Treo!
Since the 750 successor is already almost ready to go (late summer, early autumn release?), I wonder if Palm really is going to offer a WM6 Update.
A couple of weeks ago, I talked to somebody at Vodafone Germany at he told me that a WM6 is definetely planned and that this is actually the reason why an updated WM5 with enabled HSDPA has been delayed.
Yesterday I talked to another person at a special event and he actually told me that there won't be any more upgrades/updates for the 750v since the successor is already in the pipeline.
It may not be true but considering the past few months and the fact that nothing has happened so far, I start to believe that there won't be any more updates from Palm or Vodafone and that they're actually ready to sell the new Treo xxx whenever they decide to put it on the market. Sad but maybe true.
I could never believe that they would just drop this long project with the wm6 and so much test wm6 treos out there. For cingular no wm6 has been released yet as an update and far as I can remember is that the blackjack was supposted to be first to get it then I would think that's the treo 750 because they didnt waste time on the wm5 like the 8525. they also said that they won't release any other wm6 treos untill they get the update for the 750 which untill the time they bring out a new treo with wm6 for any provider I'm still going to believe its coming.

What successor are you talking about? I haven't heard anything except for that ugly gandolf device. And that's definitely not the successor to the 750.

There is going to be a Treo 800w/800p. The only thing is that it is going to be CDMA for Verizon and Sprint. They will be out in September or October.
The 800w will be 320x320, WM6, WiFi & more memory.
I don't know what this really has to do about AT&T not giving the 750 WM6 though. I really don't see how they will not give any more updates - I was told by Cingular that there will be a HSDPA update. You would think there would be a nice class action lawsuit if that didn't happen.
There is two new treos.
An Treo 500 which has been spotted as gandolf and also a Treo 800 which has yet to appear.
Treo 800 specs include WLAN and GPS.
Both have HSDPA
The guy he was probally talking to though or mistaken him with the treo 700 because there is no word on a 800 for cingular just the 500 which is a wm standard. And even if there was a 800 coming out it won't be till late 2009 to early 2010 probally. By the time it goes through sprint and verizon and then designed and tested for cingular.

Interesting Question

With AT&T ROM 1.62 out now, I seem to be left a bit confused. We have all seen the WM 6.1 ROMs floating around on the site, but that leaves me wondering why AT&T did not upgrade to WM 6.1 considering that there are working WM6.1 ROMs available for the Kaiser.
So, what then is the story on these ROMs? Are the WM 6.1 ROMs lacking in the bug fixes that are contained within the 1.62 ROM, or are the WM 6.1 ROMs some kind of HTC internal beta ROM (and therefore not without bugs)? It just seems a bit bizarre that AT&T didn't use the opportunity to upgrade to WM 6.1.
Nothing odd about it. 1.62 was an AT&T release that was finalized & slated for release at about the same time the device was release to public by AT&T. Frequently companies such as HTC are pressured to release a device ASAP & will do so even with some issues, as long as it passes the network testing. ALthough the devices are accepted by AT&T & are released the task of fixing the known issues continue.
Just like when you bought your XP computer. There were tons of security issues. You still wanted XP & companies still wanted to sell it to you. Now years later, you have a heavily patched XP OS due to all the updates.
This is basically what the 1.62 update is. Patches for small issue that they knew about, but that weren't significant enough to postpone the release date.
WM6.1 has been around for a while. It's not ready for primetime though. When you see a post touting the WM6.1 as "Official" that is intended to let you know that it is from an official or trusted anonymous source with inside knowledge or access.
If you've been following the WM6.1 threads, you know that WM6.1 will not work very well without tweaking & fixes being cooked in. It was only recently given to the operators for testing & will take some time to pass OEM & then Operator testing.
Currently, WM has also finished WM6.5 prototypes, WM6.6 is intended to be the final stepping stone before Photon or WM7.
I would say that it will be 4 - 6 months before an operator released 6.1 is available. After that you will see maybe some minor fixes & patches & then in about 12 - 18 months wm6.5. (WM6.5 if compatible with the Kaiser will be here before the of course) So maybe you'll see some cooked 6.5 ROM's within the next 12 months.
Everything in technology comes in steps. A lot of what you find here has already been in development for AT LEAST 6 months to a year. These update (AKU) are MS fixes, that then have to go to OEM's for testing & application of the OAL (OEM Adaptaion Layer) for new devices, &/or then to the operators such as AT&T for further testing & deployment. (which as of late has been defered to HTC)
WM6.1 is close, & some of the cooked versions are excelent, Sleuth comes to mind, but the ROM chef's here do not have the testing & protocol restrictions that the OEM development teams are faced with. (That said, I believe that those teams also lack the skill & creativity of XDA's finest as well)

Official HTC Polaris WM 6.1 Release (WWE)

Any word yet? I just got a Touch Cruise, and it's great... but... it has enough little issues here 'n there that I'm looking forward to a ROM update. Not so much for 6.1, just a cleaner running device overall...
What i have read about the wm6.1 release its coming in next month, but when we are talking about HTC so you can never be sure about that
Darn! That was a misleading headline. Looked like an announcement rather than a query.
In the UK, we just got an official release of... what turned out to be the bog-standard WM6.0 ROM I downloaded from here when I was finished playing with custom ROMs.

I was happy for a while, till i saw the contents of the thread... Anyway, my touch cruise, seems to be a problem free device at the moment, of which i do not think i will upgrade to wm6.1 at the moment even if the rom comes out..
The one feature that sounded nice was the threaded SMS, but when I saw it working in practice (using one of the 6.1 ROMs) I was... less excited. It's dog-ugly.
WM Standard (non-touchscreen) received the most updates with 6.1. WM Pro has some page zooming in IE and threaded SMS, a 'getting started' feature and some under-the-hood speed improvements.
HTC will be including some improved graphic drivers, though not anything that will fully utilize the chipset. I'm hoping my GSM reception will be improved some; improved camera operation in certain light settings; and better GPS sensitivity.
I'm quite happy with the Touch Cruise, but a few minor improvements would be welcome
Looking forward to a HTC WM6.1 release as well.. so I'm hoping omaga is right with that rumour of next month
ye me too ... I wouldn't mind wm6.1 right now.
lol... 1000 views... probably most because they thought this was an announcement rather than a question ;-)
Oh, and I also want 6.1
Stefan
me too
when is it expected to be released (if any?) the WM6.1 for touch cruise mean?
According to the release WM6.1 date of Kaiser.....maybe in October this year, HTC will provide us WM6.1
just a guess~
Please change a title!!!
Can someone please change this therad Title.. its very misleading.
Does HTC have some sort of agreement going with carriers where they won't update their own branded stuff until the carriers themselves are covered?

My guess is that this delay is waiting for the final Opera 9.5, and any custom HTC-specific tweaks to it.
But it's just a guess. Personally, I'm disappointed in HTC -- I bought direct from them just to make sure I didn't have to go through a carrier dragging their feet on updates...and it looks like it made no difference...
Must be your first HTC device? They're always last out with the updates, no surprises here...

The Blackstone AKA Touch HD is also a viable option.
A friend of mine bought his from Mobile.co.uk (There's a thead in the Blackstone forum on Mobile.co.uk) on O2, got to keep his number etc.
Ta
Dave
Cheers Dave, Is The Blackstone, AKA Touch HD got the slide out qwerty, Think that would suit me better after pulling out the stylus from my artemis all those times, that's the only drawback with the texting i think. Had a look at a few handsets and was goin to go with what all you guys that are qualified had to say about the best on the market at the moment.
Cheers,D
I´ll wait a little bit
A few days ago has been leaked the HTC roadmap 09 and very very nice devices are coming!
my suggestion is waiting for WM7 to come out.

Question about the forthcoming HTC Touch Pro 2 & Firestone

Hope this is the right place to ask this.
Will both these devices be running on WM 6.5 out of the box or just the Firestone?
I ask because I have seen conflicting reports on this.
I am told that even if the Touch Pro doesn't come with 6.5 it will be offered as an upgrade by HTC as soon as 6.5 is available?
I never got a Touch HD in the end or X1 because I saw 6.5 was on the way & thought I would wait for that & if I am going to get a HTC device I want to know 6.5 will be in the equation.
Your information is correct. If 6.5 comes out before the new phone, the phone will contain 6.5. If the new phone comes out first then it will contain 6.1 and an upgrade will be available.
While I have yet to see a definitive list, the general concensus is the phones that were released in the last year or so Raphael, Diamond , Blackstone, et.al, will have an upgrade to 6.5 available from HTC, the older Touchs, Kaiser, Titan Mogul, will not have 6.5 updates avaiable.
But around here does it really matter what HTC or the carriers choose to make available ?

That's interesting to hear as I thought they weren't going to offer 6.5 for devices such as the Touch HD. Be interesting to see if 6.1 and 6.5 devices released in 2008/2009 will be able to be upgraded to WM 7.
While HTC's profits lie in selling new phones and there is no profit in supporting older phones, there is a certain PR standard that has to be maintained. I should think that to not offer an upgrade for a phone that was released less that a year ago ( Blackstone ) wouldn't sit well with many customers and potential buyers.
But as I said, around here it is a rather moot point as I was running a 6.1 rom well before 6.1 came out, and have been running 6.5 for over a month, well that is until M$ issued their cease and desist order, at which point I complied and immediately downgraded to 6.1.

We have all probable seen the pictures of how WM 6.5 differs as far as the UI is concerned by how different is it 'under-the-hood' so too speak?
