keylocktray.exe - General Topics

hi all.
in \windows\ I have an executable called keylocktray.exe
when I run it an icon appears in my task tray on the today screen but nothing happens.
anyone know what it's for - except for locking the keys, and why it does nothing.
i'm just interested.
wm5 - imate rom 2.16.9.1 wwe.
phone is a wizard.
what's that task tray for anyway? only tomtom seems to use it and since you need to go to start-today to access it anyway, isn't it easier just to click start-tomtom?

Hi eayuwna!
Actually the tray is used by many programs, but I guess you don't have the ones in question.
It acts pretty much like the tray in desktop windows (the icons next to the clock).
Have you tried clicking on the icon that appears there?
On my jamin (prophet) for example, the tray is used by the comm manager and the battery meeter. That way I can access power manager and comm manager from today screen without them taking up space in the start menu.
Keep in mind that start menu only lets you have 7 items in it. That's why there are programs like VJTrayLaunch (www.vijay555.com) that let you put icons in the tray to launch apps directly from today screen.

ok
ok. that's new to wm5 I think? is it?
I suppose if you have your device default to the today screen after inactivity then it's useful.
I do have comm manager there too but the wizard has a hard key for it so I rarely use the icon.
when I click the icon concerned it changes to a keyboard symbol with a padlock and a line thru but all the hardware keys still work. can someone else give it a try to see if it does anything on other phones?
incidentally, speaking of the battery icon, my old Qtek ROM used to have the cool green version. Since upgrading to the imate ROM I now only have the crappy windows one (actually I have wisbar).
Is there an executable I can get off someone with a QTek one that will give me my good taskbar battery meter back?
***EDIT***
Scratch that; I've just looked through the windows folder some more and found Powertray.exe. Copy this as a shortcut to \windows\startup to get it back.

The tray icon for Keylocktray.exe toggles the option for turning on the backlight using any hardware button. I love functionality but want to enable it always and remove the tray icon. Can anyone give me pointers on how to do this.

Comm Manager Taskbar Icon

I've got a UK Orange M600 (Prophet) and have a number of today plugins but i'm running out of screenspace in the today view.
there is a taskbar at the bottom with an icon for the comm manager which i'd love to get rid of. I already have a hardware button for the Comm Manager i don't need an icon on my today screen as well and it takes up the whole width of the screen even though it is just one tiny icon
does anyone have any idea how to get rid of it, i've even swapped to the latest Dopod rom and not loaded any of the extended ROM and it is still there
Sorry if this isn't exactly the right place to post this but it's been driving me crazy.
Any help would be appreciated
Go to windows\startup. There should be an init_tray.lnk there. Delete it, then reset the device.
Cool
thanks worked a treat.
I knew it should be something simple
Do you know what Capnotify.lnk is? which is also in my startup dir
Nope. It links to Capnotify.exe in windows dir, but I have no idea what that does.
You could always try cut / paste to move the link somewhere else, boot without it and see what's missing (my guess, some notification won't work).
As long as you don't delete the link completely it should be relatively safe.
Instead of being lazy i looked it up
found this
Looking inside my \Windows\Startup folder on my Wizard, I found a shortcut to an application called CapNotify.exe. Upon inspecting the file in a hex editor, I found a registry key called "EnableIndicator" which was not found in the registry. After creating the registry entry called EnableIndicator at \HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd and assigning the DWORD value of 1 to it , then soft-resetting my device, an indicator appeared next to the keyboard icon on the bottom of the screen! Tapping the Shift key showed a "C" while tapping the Dot key showed a dot! Very cool!

sounds like a typical Windows Thing, something which is run all the time on everyones compauter but not even enabled in 99% of cases
OhWell
Thanks. No I know I can get rid of it since my device doesn't have a hardware keyboard.

Want to get rid of the comm manager icon on today screen!

Hello!
I have the HTC Wizard (O2 Xda mini S); on my today screen is a small icon on the right bottom. When I hit it, the comm manager starts. The Wizard has a hardware key to start the comm manager, though. I would like to get rid of this icon or hide it, so I can get the phonealarm (or other plugins) to the bottom.
How can I do this?
If it is not possible: Can I at least show date and time IN THE SAME LINE as this comm manager button? Can I add other buttons there? Is this documented somewhere?
Cheers and Thanks,
Eriol

I would suggest a search using "init_tray" in order to find information about removing the comm icon, and to search using "PHM traylaunch" to find out about adding icons to the comm manager system tray.
This question has been asked many, many times before.

What's On Your Today Screen?

I have been going back and forth between rltoday and HTC Home. I have issues with both and I like them both. I am currently running the HTC Home plugin.
rltoday Pros:
Highly configurable (if you have time)
very light weight
can use with the hidelogo cab
free
rltoday Cons:
limited user community (for my device)
unable to navigate with five-way
limited native functionality (additional scripts or 3rd party apps needed)
no weather plugin
HTC Home Pros:
Customizable (HTC Home Config)
multi-tabbed
built-in weather
built-in ringer profile selections (with HHC)
launch music player from today screen as well as see what's playing
built-in picture dialer
no 3rd party apps/scripts needed
free
HTC Home Cons:
unable to use hidelogo cab
weather plugin is limited (even with HHC)
profile selections don't always work
a. doesn't vibrate but is silent
b. when the meeting/event is over speaker is turned all the way down
when the clock is touched it launches the time/alarm settings (annoying)
So, what are you running on your today screen and why?
hey too bad nobody is answering to this i would love to know all the cool today plugins there is. Im running the HTC Home plugin and sometimes the cool Pointu interface.
How about you guys ?
I prefer the simple but elegant approach...until something really groundbreaking comes along :
TA Pro: controls LED, and gives quick stats and weather
GoodMobile Messaging Calendar and Mail (also displays sms count)
cLaunch: Three 2xtabs (each tab has 2 wrap rows) with my common apps. I've also modified cLaunch.dll to play nicer with the 240x240 display when in the settings area of the app.
Hidelogo to give a little more real estate
I've also replaced battery.exe with an HTC version that gives a better battery icon and little more display flexibility.
QuickMenu 2.7 to assist with app closing, hibernate, soft reset and additional menu browsing needs.
fTouchflo (last free version) for easier touch navigation
I've replaced the default tahoma.ttf with the one from my XP workstation for a smoother font appearance
================
I really like throttle launcher as a replacement for cLaunch, but presently it takes up too much memory and is a little cumbersome to configure on the fly.
PointUI is promising, but needs better hooks into "Good" before I can use it, plus needs more customization options to allow me to get to what I need in a minimum of "clicks" - it's not presently able to give me what my present setup offers me.

Any screenshots?
My Today screen is settled. I have finalized on HTC Home Plugin. No other plugins on the screen. You will notice that I have the bluetooth and the carrier information hid. This is accomplished with Memaid removing the "active call", and "lookup". This does make some additional challenges like the usage of the talk (green) and end (red buttons) as well as the ringer. These are easily overcome by registry changes. I also employed the HTC Home Customizer to make the background transparent and have the "Vista" icons. Music is being played on the device and only showing in the plug (not title bar) through the use of "wk Task". Also I have the battery icon on the today screen but on other apps the time is displayed. This is a result of HHC as well. You can have the time only always; I chose to have it only away from the Today screen. You will also notice that the left and right softkeys are different. Because I am using the standard Windows Mobile dialer, I can customize these keys. One goes to the mail/messaging and the other goes to my IM program. I am running WM6.1 Lite OS (ROM).
I intend to write a complete document on how to do these customizations. It can be frustrating looking for hours and days piecing things together. WinMob has been a lot more fun for me than Palm (former 650 user).
What other options are out there? Feel free to chime in.
Just added quick menu to the list. It is amazing!
Quickmenu
I have found that this application makes my Treo unresponsive. I noticed that after selecting the application, my phone seems to hang or be very slow. I have uninstalled it until I can figure what is making it unresponsive.

Well my today screen is running SPB Mobile Shell 2.
Version 2 looks real nice and has some cool animations too.
lew, i sent you a pm, id love to get rid of palm dialer and the att/bt logos while keeping red/green button functionality.
I got what I need installed (memmaid, total commander) i just dont know what to do.
what registry settings did you use to get the green and red phone keys functional again after disabling the carrier/bluetooth icons?
Green/Red Button Functionality
Use the following steps to remove the carrier info/bluetooth logo and still use the green/red buttons.
I got rid of the carrier info by way of the removal of "Active Call" and "Dial Lookup" startup items. These were removed using MemMaid. At this point the device will revert to the WinMob dialer. Pressing the green button will launch the dialer and pressing the red button will cause it to go away. However pressing the red button will NOT end a call. You have to press the "End" button on the screen or hangup via your BT device button.
You will need to change the service called "VOL0" to "manual" (MemMaid again).
You will no longer be able to select your ringer in the standard way. You will need to make the change in the registry. HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds is where the change is made. The entries PlmORingTone1, 2 and 3 are the entries for Known Unknown and Roaming calls. You will have to copy and paste (and over-write) the entries from there to "RingTone0", 2 and "RoamingRing0". PlmORingTone1 and RingTone0 are for "Known"callers. You will have to make this change every time you want the ringtone to be different. These steps are not necessary for changing the ringtone of a contact.
You need to remap the device keys. (Backup your device OR copy the values down BEFORE you make any changes if you want to go back!!) Make the following changes in the registry. In HKLM\Security\Phone change the Charmap to "ertdfgxcvzubo" and the Keymap to "ERTDFGXCVZUBO". In HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin change Enabled to "0".
Reset the device
NOTE: These changes are only necessary if you want to use the standard WM6(.1) dialer. Original Values for the Charmap and Keymap entries
Charmap "ertdfgcvbyuio"
Keymap: "ERTDFGCVBYUIO"

Thanks for the tutorial, but now the red key no longer turns off the screen. Any ideas
Red Button No Longer Turns Off Screen
I too have the same problem with the red button. To aleviate this I have created a button shortcut that allows me to lock the phone by pressing one button. Using QuickMenu, in the options, on the command tab, choose lock from the list and click on create shortcut. You can now assign a button to this to lock the phone. I choose the OK button. So if I press and hold OK, my phone will lock.
By the way, the issue that I was having with QuickMenu was a conflict with CTRL-Pro. After removing it I am now able to use QuickMenu without any problems.

I extract to ExtROM and create a shortcut to the EXE in windows\startup.
All the settings are stored in the registry, use total commander or your preferred flavor of reg reader to import/export for backup/restore purposes.

why not use the "hidelogo.cab"
The hidelogo.cab causes a reset loop with the HTC Home plugin.

Acer Dx900

Hi all
i got myself one of these nice machines, apart from the battery life, i quite like it.
however, everytime i touch any buttons, it turns on. is there anyway to only select it to turn on when pressing power button?i cant find anything in the settings tabs (im running wm6.5 by the way)
thanks for the help, any program or registry setting that does that, id be willing to try!
also, does anyone know where the backlight.exe (or if it is under any other name) is situated?i want to make a shortcut to it on the home screen, but cant find the file in the windows directory!
I've been looking for it too...
Open the battery-settings.
And choose the upper option.
...by the way, how did you upgrade to wm6.5?
I'm still running 6.1

i637 Jack - How to remove Vlingo from silent key, tweak it on wm6.5

Instead of Vlingo, when tapping the Silent Key I want to start Voice Notes straight to "Record" function (like Dictaphone). Does anyone know a tweak?
(I already upgraded to WM6.5 and changed the media web button to skyfire, and the att gps to garmin)
When using Total Commander and trying to remove all of the ATT crapware/demo ware, I was only able to remove from the Start Menu or from Program Files, but not from the Windows main directory. It appears that deleting files like JewelQuestII.exe from the Windows main directory is locked (I get a message 'cannot delete 1 file(s)') Does anyone know how to unlock that? How can I uninstalling the rest of the AT&T clutter, including successfully removing the start-up/shut-down AT&T 3g animation?
Also, on my previous HTC Tilt there was a button on the side, which when I tapped it the display turns off and the device goes to 'sleep' stand-by mode (keys, screen don't respond, until there is phone call to wake up the device). On the i637 the button on the side doesn't do that - when I tap it it goes to shut down and such shortcut menu. Does anyone know how to tweak it to behave like the Tilt? (put it to sleep).
[Right now I have to wait like 30 secs before the device puts itself to sleep, so I just hold down the end button to 'lock' it and then put it in my pocket]
Do you think that the reason why you have to hold on the power button longer in order to start-up the device (after upgrading to WM6.5) is because somehow there are two sets of instructions for the phone to go by? [one is the old/stock 6.1 set of instructions, and one is the new 6.5 set)? If yes, then is there a way to completely remove the 6.1 (initial/stock stuff)? But yet, my HTC Tilt also has to be held down when booting up, and that was like that out of the box. Don't know if ATT did the upgrading on the Tilt to 6.1 though. But I do know that the Tilt that I have was ATT upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1 just don't know how they did it. Just mentioning the Tilt for comparison purposes. I need support only on i637.
Anyone knows any good (free) Pocket Dictionary for Smart Phone (non-touch screen)?
I just noticed this, since it is the first time that I actually went To MS Office, (and I went to it for the 1st time, after WM6.5 upgrade, so no i637 6.1 experience to compare). The MS Office WORD & Excel don't have any way to start a 'NEW' word or excel sheet. It just goes into browsing mode like searching for files. So I immediately went to the HTC Tilt and the Office to compare, and sure enough- for Tilt there IS a choice to start 'NEW' Word and Excel. In i637 the only 'NEW' choice is to start a 'New One NOTE' but not for Word or Excel. Any tweak, suggestions, comments?
Can someone post a working .cab for Smart Phone (non-touchscreen), turning the Jack i637 into a hot spot functionality, like the IPhone (announced as MyWi) ?
Did anyone figure out a tweak for the battery percentage? (% is not showing).
I have to admit that i637, though a non-touchscreen device, has so far many advantages over the Tilt. For one thing, I find it a lot faster and more convenient in the hand/pocket.
