DO NOT trust Paypal, read my experience - General Topics

I decided to write this review to warn others from dealing with paypal, they have charged me before completing the registration process, and after charging me they have asked for me to fax them extra documents that I don't have, I told them that I don't have that documents, and I asked them to find an alternative way, they replied stupidly asking the same question, I called them and wasted my money on international calls, every one of their rude employees gave me different answers. at the end I asked them to close my account, they refused, they said that the cannot close the account neither they can activate it if I don't send them the faxed papers. Simply they are either stupid or they were stealing me. I still couldn’t get my money back, but I had to cancel my credit card because they had a continuous access on it, and that cost me allot also. There should be a law to watch such companies...
You watch your money, and don't trust those companies that call themselves as a company for your own security; it is a company that will have a full access to your credit card... I lost much with my registration trial with Paypal (www.paypal.com) be careful from this company.

Not my experience. I had to fax them papers on my credit card, if I remember correctly. But that wasn't a problem after that. I think it was a bank statement. I use PayPal almost every week to buy from eBay.

perhaps its because you live in what is considered quite a dodgy country by many others?
all ive had to do with paypal, and ive been using them for years, is enter my card and bank details online, they performed a chargeback on my account of $1 and i had to enter the reference that showed on my bank statement

Paypal has always worked very well for me. From what I remember, I gave them my bank account information and then they made three small deposits. To verify, I had to let them know the amounts of those three deposits. Now, 100's of transactions later, I am a veteran and still highly satisfied. Sorry you had an unfavorable experience.

Ok... Maybe you had some good experience there, but I advice you all to have a look on this site (www.nopaypal.com) and also you may search Google for other peoples reviews on this issue... in the site I gave here, you will find too many stories that are simillar to mine..
they also say that with paypal things goes fine until you face a small silly problem, then you start to suffer, one of them says, that he sold an item for a specific amount of money and after he recieved the payment to paypal they have limited his account and he cannot get him money from them until now !!
read and see how they deal with people,
if you think that they read those fax papers then you are mistaken, someone says that he faked the papers and faxed them and things went fine, where is the security in that? you can steal a card number and fake the fax paper, the more secure way was the $1.95 decuction and verifying it by the 4 pin number, I did that but they didn't satisfy with it, they are like machines, they Don't have minds to use and think, when I be honest with them and tell them that I don't have such a paper, they reply saying: "we are still waiting for the fax" like robots....
the main problem there is that they are not trained to handle problems, when you have a problem then you are stuck there....
one more important issue that i have mentioned: how come they have charged me before verifying my card, they claim that they limited my account because they cannot verify my account, then what if I stole that card, why did they charge the real owner then? they should have asked for all of the papers they needed then they could start charging, that is really silly, common people search google and have a look on www.nopaypal.com, there are books talking about paypal's cheating, you can read everyday a new story there... if you had a good experience with them then this is not meaning that they are good, it is just you are lucky that you didn't face any problem yet!

Okay, let's get real here.
What documents would they ask for that a card owner wouldn't have? Why don't you have the documents?
The domain name, NoPaypal.com, was registered back in 2001 in order to drum up support for a class action lawsuit. Yep, that person had a bad experience when Paypal was new. The "Bash Paypal Bandwagon" was in full force several years ago. You are a little late.
If I stopped using every service/vendor that someone had a bad experience with, I'd have to stop using everything.
If I go to a restaurant that sucks, I don't go back. Don't run around like chicken little yelling "the sky is falling".

they wanted either a water bill or electricity bill in my name, well my card is not issued from the same country that I am currently living in, I was living there once, but even at that time I was renting a home so the bills were not in my name, and I have no other document to send them in my name, so this is realistic, if you don't like to believe that they are theievs then you are free, keep dealing with them , everyone is free in this life, I just liked to warn the other people and give an advice, so take my advice or leave it, but don't regret later!!

so you have a bank in a country were you dont live, no way you can confirm your current and previous addresses and you are complaining that paypal wont deal with you!!!!!
good! im glad paypal wont deal with you, if you were to rip me off, what could i do about it? i couldnt find out where you live or where you bank.
wake up, smell the coffee, get yourself a bank and a real address that you own and pay your way in, then maybe, just maybe youll have some financial credibility
jeesh!
dont tell me... you are nigerian and you have $1 200 419 that you need to invest, but your governmnt charges too much tax.........................

you people thing yourself something?? huh..
work your mind a little bit, I dont have to give you all the details, dump yourself and deal whoever you like to, I just wrote my experience, and as I said before you are free to get the advice or leave it,
are you working for paypal guys? you appear to be from UK? by the way I am not nigerean and I do not care about you or the companies in your country, if you want to realy talk about ropping people, then read carefully my story and see how paypal took the money before even getting the fax, then what if really I was ropping someone's card? why did they charge him before getting sure? I was ropped by paypal and didn't get my money back yet.... maybe you cannot think wide.. it is your problem, that is why in your country we always hear such stories, but thanks God we don't have much like those stories from local companies, you even didn't use your mind to look at the flag near my name and your wide imagination lead you to nigeria, cool
for your information, my bank is now handling the case with this stupid paypal company, I respect my bank and I am very happy of their fast reaction against what paypal did, I wont be posting any further details about this topic in this forum cuz it looks like the people here are to fight not to get advices and advice others, you could have read it and either propose me a solution for my problem like someone who did in other forum, or you could just close that page, but you prefer to defend paypal, they probably from your way of defending, you are one of them !
Good luck for the good people..

the reference to nigeria was a joke, the clue was in the monetary amount, for someone so concerned about scams, im surprised youve never heard of the "nigerian 419" scam
google it
btw, i know what country your flag is from, i said as much in my first reply when i politely commented on the fact that many businesses in the world may not trust doing business with people from that country, hence the requests for additional verification of who you are.
the fact that you bank in another country and have no id relating to where you live really makes it of no surprise that they dont want to deal with you.
they charged US$1.95....... not exactly fraud of the century is it?

after sending one item paypal says..international shipment

Hi,
I'm wondering if you have noted my message that i would like to continue with the purchase of the Touch Pro EU version as noted below. Now I find myself missing the payment information, which I am waiting from you to send me. The first contact from you was extremely fasy, which I'm thankful for, but approximately how long it can take to tell me how to pay?
The thing that you don't have option to pay via Credit card is already quite annoying, but even more annoying is to wait for the bank transfer payment information. Nothing personal, I'm just used to that shops would be more eager to get the money from the customers.

I'm glad i never got those payment instructions. who knows where my money could be right now!
And also remember, when ordering from them, you will probably have to pay the toll and VAT at your home country, so it really isn't even that cheap.

I thought to do so, but after doing whois pings on the domain, found out that the website is registered to a person with a same surname than the person answering my e-mail. Family biz.. They can go to hell with their stupid shop, just ordered from expansys.
Sounds very dodgie.... Thanks for sharing....
I bought from highstreet "Kamla" in London on Tottenham Court Road... UK version for £499.
A bit more expensive but from my past experience with HTC P3600 which was quite unstable initially, I thought it's better to buy from a shop where I can go back to if anything goes wrong.
I tell you...that is nuts. I had an issue with the first Touch Pro I ordered. Thank goodness I did it on E-Bay. Paypal refunded my money after my dispute, found another seller, and bought two of them with next day air delivery. Though I had one seller try to mess around with me, money was safe, and still had my Touch Pro within a week of the UK's launch.
Good luck with your next seller.
if it wasn't blindingly obvious to you already:
DON'T PAY BY BANK TRANSFER OR WESTERN UNION.
A merchant who doesn't take cards is generally always a scammer; bank transfers/WU are irreversible, this is precisely why they're required by scammers.
If you want to buy a device, buy it on a card; the price is cheaper than average for a good reason, use your noodle.

What do you think about this iphone seller?

Hi,
I was searching the net for reasonably cheap iphone deals and I found this company in the UK:
http://www.babbey.co.uk.pn/
the iphone 3g 16GB is for $350, + 30 pounds shipping, he ships worldwide.
He asked me to transfer the money via western union. do you think that he is a scammer? I don't know but he seems to be true. Any suggestions?
Thanks

If it's too good to be true...
By the way are you sure he's english? -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.pn
Dave
at least he is under british control, these islands are british.

well, I don't know if it too good to be true coz I don't know how much does the iphone cost in bulk. Another thing that makes me feel relaxed is that he wants me to send the money to the UK and I am in the UK, too!
It's the Western Union bit that makes me cautious.
Also why would a UK based company register and even use a .pn domain, especially when the real .co.uk address is available?
I can't say for sure either way... but what guarantee's do you have?
If you do get scammed you'll have ignored all the warning bells... Price in $'s, Registered in the Uk, using Anon Payments, un-heard of, obscure domain, etc...
Also, look at these posts : http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...wRx&q="www.babbey.co.uk.pn"&btnG=Search&meta=
If in doubt, don't use them.
Dave
Hmm they say that they are a registered UK company under the number 04568517. how can I check if this is true?
EDIT: I checked that and found that it is true, they are a registered company (see link). is that enough for me to send my money via western union?

Have you read some of the tips to avoid scammers in the Marketplace? Some of his characteristics matches the warnings from other users.
Dave
dont do it..
one : The website is very poorly created, if he was a legitimate business he would more than likely use an e-commerce store.
two : googlemail email, hotmail msn, mobile numbers as contact numbers, meaning no trace back.
three : the address... he lives in a very remote place....
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...106062,0.16977&spn=0.001101,0.003455&t=h&z=18
four : a UK company trading in dollars? considering the seller would stitch himself up on the exchange rate this is definately something to question...
five : in looking up the details etc he posts randomly on forums and seems very similar to the typical
"we are an established company founded in "DATE" we are respectable and blah blah blah"
be careful.
oh and six? why western union?
and check this out..

Its a SCAM.
Just been on tv in Denmark. Guys like that want you to transfer through a Money Transfer Company - and then you cannot find them afterwards as those Companies dont know who gets the money.
So in Denmark the word is; NEVER transfer any money that way. Only use reliable companies - payment through credit card as we can get money back if it is a scam...
And - they use webhotels in good countries as a cheat, but are often living i Romania and places like that... !
definately looks like another scam...be careful!
So, I am not gonna do it. He called me today asking for the money and I told him I'll send the money on monday! he was not talking like a sales guy, he was speaking like this: "hello, how are you? when will you send the money" he seemed to be like a bull**** on the phone, I am not going to risk it anyway!
Thanks for your advice guys, I appreciate it
I would not do it, only if I could consider that money is worth nothing to me...Western Union? legal company would use another method of payment...
And yes gmail hotmail adresses seems to be poor...
good luke and cross your fingers
I even once had trouble with Visa card, then how would you follow our order after Western Union?
If it sound to good to be true chances are it is . its got Scam Written All over it the

A rant about google checkout...

I have to get this out cause I'm so infuriated about this.
I tried to purchase beautiful widgets last night but google checkout kept declining my card. I found out that my card that has over $400 on it will not allow me to make payments with euros.
HOW HARD IS IT TO COVERT EURO TO USD? REALLY...
Also found out that google does not have a customer support line to call to solve problems. The only way I could contact google was to call the front desk and the lady flat out refused to transfer my call to anyone that could help. Said I had to use the help link within google checkout and needless to say, that got me no where.
I am disgusted with google as of now. I can't buy the app I want cause I'm american? I call that discrimination and I will be filing a lawsuit.
For a company that just put out their own phone and to not have a customer support option just boggles my mind.
GOOGLE, you want to keep me as a customer and google phone user than you BETTER come up with a solution to your immature business decision or you're going to lose a lot more in the long run and you will be sued many many times.
I am livid about this and I'm not going to sit here and be treated this way. I am going to do something about it. You discriminated the wrong person this time and I WILL have the lady at the front desk lose her job for being so rude and refusing to help me.

Am I being scammed?

Hello
I am trying to sell my Captivate on Ebay. I have had 4 different people - all located in the Ukraine inquire about the phone. Noone else from anywhere has asked about it.
Is there something about the Captivate and Ukraine?
Maybe it's one person with multiple accounts, or some of her/his friends.
Doesn't matter where they are from as long as they pay, and do NOT ship the phone until you have the money in your hands.
Phones are hard to get over seas and can be resold for 10x what they pay for it

Use paypal for take the payment. And just ship after check that you have the money in your account.
Be cautious. I've had people try to scam me when I sold my Archos 101. They offered $100 more than what I was selling it for, but the catch is they wanted me to send the Archos to his cousin(who was also out of state). It just didn't seem right . Also have a friend that dealt with a buyer from another country. The check or whatever they sent him ended up costing him money somehow. So I only deal with local buyers. Just my 2 cents
Thanks for the tips guys
I wouldnt do it! I would never buy over seas and if you sold i would go thre PayPal for sure and dont send till money in hand. Good luck!

Ebay have a buyer/seller protection system, in that case they have to prove that he didnt sent the phone or isnt as was in the description. And if the buyer want the money back have to ship back to the seller. You can read about it in the ebay security center, i bought my phone in ebay, took a week to get from US to Venezuela.

Sold an iPhone on eBay to a guy in Ukraine. The tracking system showed that it never arrived and he got his money back through PayPal. I was out an iPhone, eBay's fees, and the cost of shipping.
My local PO told me they hear things like that all the time about Ukraine. The postal system is apparently awful there.
Edit: Just because you get the money doesn't put you in the clear, PayPal put negative balance on my account and called me everyday after the dispute threatening to turn me over to collections if I didn't pay them back.

also require them to buy insurance, that will protect u and the buyer if the package supposedly never arrives
not worth the hassle or risk you should have no problem selling to a buyer in US or Canada both of which tend to be safer than say Nigeria or Ukraine.
Good point on the insurance. So in case it does get "lost", my money won't be completely lost.
Just in case anyone doesn't know the check scam. The way it works is they send you a check for the product. It looks legit, even your bank will think its real. Banks will normally put the money into your account within 1-3 days if the amount of the check is below a certain amount. They do this before the check ever clears with the bank listed on the check (many times its an overseas bank so it takes even longer to clear). So what happens is that you get your money, ship the product, and then a couple weeks later the bank calls you up and says you owe them that money back because the check bounced. Or worse yet, the bank deducts it directly from your account, which happens, and you get overdrawn. Now you also owe overdraft fees. Problem is you cant hold on to the product for the length of time it takes for the check to fully clear, many times its 2-4 weeks.
So lesson is use paypal, cash, or even western union. No checks ever. There are plenty of scams out there but this one is one of the easiest for people to pull off.

The Unlock Pros = The Scam Pros
They've done the same thing to me. They got me to send my $900 phone in for IMEI repair after they've screwed it up remotely. They use a UPS Store mailbox as shipping address.
Once they got the phone they started ignoring my emails and phone calls. When I finally got someone with the username "Scott" one their website live chat, he was rude first and later mocked me, called me stupid, dumb and all the f words for asking about my phone.
Never do business with these guys. They are thieves and they continue to steal phones because they assume people won't waste their time and money to sue them for stealing their cell phones. At least that's what the Scott guy told me after insulting me online. Also they think or assume your phone is stolen so you won't do anything if they steal from you.
They do provide the remote unlock and IMEI repair but this is just their way to make their business look legitimate. In reality the look for opportunities to have you ship your phone in. For example they will intentionally screw up the phone then as you to ship it in.
By the way, they will show you a mail label to make you think that they'll ship your phone back to you soon. This is just a trick, Kiss your phone goodbye if you've made the mistake like me to ship your phone to these scammer.
Just so you know(no offense) but to unblacklist means to hack into the phones database. And I feel really sorry for you. Hope you get your money back.

Exactly like this scumbag told me, Paypal will not refund intangible goods. This pos "merchant ' had bragged to me about that & told me I'd never get my money back.
Paypal did refuse, at first... but they changed their minds after I sent 'em the tape of the guy they gave my money too threatening me and my kids.... (Thank goodness fro rooted phones!) I may have also mentioned that I would report them (paypal) to the Office of the Inspector General for aiding in interstate criminal this and that, extortion, etc etc.
The next day, I got an email saying Paypal had refunded my money from Paypal funds.
They did not take my money back from the Unlock Pros AFIK. The Unlock Pros is one scumbag ripoff artist using Paypal to do it.

The next day, I got an email saying Paypal had refunded my money from Paypal funds.
They did not take my money back from the Unlock Pros AFIK. The Unlock Pros is one scumbag ripoff artist using Paypal to do it.

I am sorry that you got scammed, and glad you got your money back.
But on THIS site we do not discuss anything to do with IMEI changing for any reason, this includes services or hack methods.
