O2 XDA Mini - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi there.
This ...THING... is driving me crazy.
Happy was I when i thought this would be an "update" from my old, but trusty Axim X3 :!:
However, this thing is so slow, it hurts!
I just performed a hard rest, it is still slow.
What can I do, which software can I kill (especially pre-installed) and how?
HELP!

PS: Yes, I have searched, but I could use some pointers. Links are OK

wud love to help but didnt get wat the problem was...

Basically, this thing slows down so hard over time, that it is IMPOSSIBLE to use.
(thus I had to hard reset it)
Even now, you can watch the applications start one after another. At the time it reaches the O2 software you can watch the screen being drwan.

I heard a lot of O2 active things, but 1) I still don't know pretty anything of these 2) I don't know how to grab them up 3) I don't know if they are device specific or what, or if they install some carrier setting.. Can someone explain?? I have a magician..

Before remapping, always try (if you haven't already done so) to go through a soft reset. Sometimes, they keys get "locked" because some program in WM is not responding...
BTW, which OS are you running?
i tried soft resetting still nothing happen its running on Windows Mobile 5. i could not Upgrade it to 6.1 because my lil bro killed the bootloader
try a hardreset n c what happens....or get some soft key manager n try with it...
Hbutton actually works pretty good. I used it a few times and it does a good job for the remapping. If you feel confident enough with the Registry, you can also do it that way.

Can you flash with an original shipped rom? (you know, the RUU from the manufacturer) That normally requires no interaction with the device since the software automatically puts the device into bootloader. I will try to find the Registry keys. There was a good post with all that information a while back... I'll see if I can find it.

thank you very much. but i cant flash my lil bro apparently somehow killed the bootloader... only way to have bootloader back is to do it manually by opening the device but i wont want to do that lol his phone might just get worst..

I guess I should read a little more carefully since you mentioned this in an earlier post.
Look at this that I stumbled upon while browsing the Atom forums. Look at posts 214 thru 216. There is an app that is called resetbootloader.exe.... I guess this might be what you need.

See if you can downgrade the bootloader by following this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358704&highlight=downgrade+bootloader
First you must make sure that this is for your phone. If it doesn't work, try to find a program called HButton (it can be found in the Dev and Hacking section), this will do the same thing as the Registry edits, but with a nice UI
Sorry but this is the limit of my knowledge... in theory, replacing the bootloader might fix what your little brother did, but then again, I am not certain since I do not own the device. Also, you may want to consider that the hardware buttons can be busted as well. Just a thought.
Good luck!
thanks again hehe it gave me alot of home lol but could not get it working. Maybe someone could give more solution on how to activate the DPads back lol hehe. The Problem Started when my Lil bro installed Touch Shell 3.0 thats what he said to me this morning... lol maybe some software aren't that friendly at all
those anyone know any apps that can do hardreset without using stylus & Dpad...??

I have used Touch Shell 3 (in a Blue Angel) and it shouldn't do anything like that (especially not busting your bootloader)... I have a feeling that your little brother is not telling you something or that his story is only half of what happened
As far as the "no stylus"... why not? I can understand that your DPad might not be working, but why not the stylus? If you lost it and need to reach the "Reset" button, just do what I do... use a paperclip (I have lost about 5 styluses and on the last one I said "screw it" )
One last suggestion, you could try to remove both battery and back up battery to clean the memory... I guess that would probably act as a hard reset for the device.

My touch pro 2 has been bricked

I posted this in another thread as it was similar (though for tmobile), but I believe I haven't gotten any answers there I was hoping to try here:
I was installing winmo msn messenger. It installed fine and reset my tp2 fine. It goes thru the tp2 splash screen, the verizon splash screen and the winmo splash screen. Then it shows owner information and this is where it gets screwed up. Owner info will stay up forever if I dont touch the screen. After touching the screen the only thing left will be the top bar and the rest of the screen stays black. The only things on the top bar are the signal icon (which always has an x), the wifi icon (which seems to be connected fine lol) and either owner info will still be in the upper left or the start menu will be there. Hitting the screen only causes my tp2 to beep.
Nothing I know how to do (which is basically just hard and soft resetting it) works. Verizon can't fix it (didnt think they would be able to) and I can find no drivers (possibly cause I'm still a noob with winmo) to resolve my issue. I'm not even sure how I'd get them on as it wont even sync up to my computer and my computer cannot find its hd. If I could get a rom for the verizon one I think I can figure it out from there with no issues...but htc website sends me to verizon website for support and vice versa. The htc wiki is the closest I've gotten to an answer...but no rom to download. The only OEM roms I can find anywhere aren't for this phone, unless one of those will work? You guys are the experts.
Does anyone know what I can try? Verizon wants me to return it but cannot tell me when I'll get my new one as they are out of stock...again. Please help lol! Thanks for any and all help because I NEED a phone and can't wait around for them to decide to include them in the next shipment, nor would I appreciate being given some other type of phone in the mean time simply because I paid for the tp2, if I had wanted another phone I would have bought it instead.
if you do just a litle searching over at ppcgeeks, there's info about shipped roms and where to get them. (not sure if its kosher to post a direct link to it or not, given that these are shipped roms). hopefully that will help, otherwise, dunno what to tell ya.
First off, I can tell you that installing MSN Messenger would NOT brick your TP2. There are other problems with the phone, most likely a bad mfr rom. If you performed a hard reset (You did didnt you?) it would reload the factory rom.. so if your phone is still bricked, your factory rom is hosed, or your phones hardware is hosed. Installing MSN Messenger would not do this by itself.
Learning from trial and error is a tough road. Return the phone for a new one while you still have the option. You got a get out of jail free card, now is the time to use it.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by mfr (I'll hit up google after this) but I can tell you only what I know. My phone worked fine for 3 days. Once I got it set up like I wanted and was ready to start installing other crap I did so, I started with MSN.

Yup got the hard reset in there, it just didnt do anything. However, one thing I did not was that there were numerous postings with different ways to hard reset the device. The only one I could get to do anything at all was pressing volumn down + reset while the phone was off but it stayed at the tri color screen without much else going on...so I coulda just done the wrong one or did it wrong all together. If I did please point me in the right direction.
Like I said before I can't say if it was screwed from the time I first turned it on as this is my first smartphone and first experience with tf3d (I've had many pda's though) but it had been soft reset multiple times prior, along with a couple of hard resets, and had no issue bouncing back from those. Reset after MSN install...hosed. Not that I'm saying your wrong, you guys are the experts here, but from what I've experienced regardless of what caused it msn will certainly not be going on my next smart phone. I'll opt for one of the all in one apps like I was going to before I decided to go with a name I trusted.

Got no choice about this. The only issue I have with this is the fact that they can't tell me when I'll get my new phone. Plus I have only 1 of 2 choices:
1. Mail my phone back and get a refurbished one in return....uhm...no
2. Take my phone back to the verizon store I got it at, get my refund, and hope to god that I can get another one the next time they get it in stock.
I'm not trying to ***** and complain...just trying to find a way to fix it without a)paying 300 for a refurbished phone, or b)going an unknown amount of time without my phone.
does your start menu drop down when you hit it? When i go to settings/today/items and uncheck the TouchFLO 3d my screen is just as you describe. Its pure black with the top bar available. Did you check to see if the touchflo 3d is turned on?

You went into boot loader mode. I did a hard reset on my sprint version but I dont remember how technical support told me. I think it was power off the phone. push and hold 'up' volume key, then hit and hold the reset switch till the phone boots. This will start off looking like a normal soft reset, but it will take much longer, your phone will be erased of all info you put in and it will do an instalation of software and reboot right before touchflo starts . I dont think you will ever get a tri-color screen (i could be wrong), which is what you get when the phone is expecting a rom flash from a computer. the whole process probably takes like five minutes, and theres a spot right after it starts it looks like your phone is doing nothing (Leave it be!). I've been messing with a lot of phones recently, and i dont remember if you got to hold the up key and reset button till you get a hard reset warning or not. (it might tell you all your data will be erased, and whether or not to continue)
edit:
just did a quick google and confirmed it on my sprint touch pro2. push and hold 'send' and 'end' key. Using your teeth, push and hold the 'reset' button with the stylus. finaly, push the power button. (all three need to be pressed down when you hit the power). the tri color screen flashes, then a white screen warns of the reset and says push 'up' volume key to continue, any other key to cancel. Hope this helps.
When you did the hard reset, did you get a warning that all data was going to be erased and where you asked to enter something to confirm? If you didn't, then you have not done a hard reset.
I had to try several times to get mine to hard reset. Even though I hit the proper keys, the phone would just soft reset, not hard reset. I can see how you can easily be fooled thinking you did a hard reset if you don't know what to look for.
I think there are different key presses for Verizon vs Sprint. Make sure you're using the right one.
BTW, "mfr" = manufacturer . . . i.e. HTC

Confirmed. The Verizon HTC TP2 Hard Reset is the same as T-Mobile but is different from Sprint.
With POWER OFF, hold Volume Down while pressing SEND (green) and END (red). It takes about 4 seconds to take. WARNING: THIS IS A HARD RESET, BACK UP YOUR CONTACT LISTS AND DATA. EVERYTHING BUT YOUR OEM INSTALL WILL BE WIPED.

I actually ended up calling HTC about 6hrs ago (5 pm est) and they did confirm what i had already started thinking. Verizon tech support has no idea what the hell they are talking about when it comes to this phone.
@spunks74 you're absolutely right, this is just what htc said and is where I finally figured out....verizon needs to get this phone in their techs hands instead of giving them pictures and text.
@DragonNote this is exactly what htc told me after they told me verizon didnt know how to hard reset. thanks for the info, even if i called htc before checking here. thank god im obsessive about backups or I would have been screwed because once this happened....nope no way to do anything at all. Also, for other forum members that may not know, the link you provided (for t-mobile) is completely different than the link for the hard reset for verizon:
http://www.htc.com/us/faqs.aspx?p_id=294&cat=0&id=110490&f=t
which is why i was at such a loss during this issue...I couldn't get that far lol. I read sooo many different ways to hard reset the phone but none worked. obvviously i never checked to seei f the different providers would hard reset different ways. i just assumed they would all reset the same way (i guess this time assuming only made an ass out of me) so i found myself looking at ways to reset the touch pro 2 and ways to reset the rhocium, which is where all the different variations can be found.
@mjcole2003 Without touch flo i recognize the gui right away, and the first time it happened i did think i had just jacked up the flashy gui, but while it was the bare winmo gui there was nothing I could do. any screen touch, any keypress all ended with the same outcome I'd touch/press and the device would only *beep*

copy that. my condolences for your loss. I would have them replace it immediately. Too much BS for a new ppc. Only makes you wonder what else is wrong with it.
Why don't you do a hard reset via Clear Storage in settings? This surely seems like something that can be fixed with a hard reset.

[Q] HTC Touch Hd problem

Hello guys,
I have recntly joined the htc HD club i m not much into technical side
I m having some problems regarding this cell fone:
* Phone is really slow n not responding well and at times i really need to tap hard on screen to open a program...
* Time for received SMS is 1 hour later..
* is there any updates available?
Windows 6.5 is installed in it...
Waiting for experts....
Helpppp
anyone???????
are there any experts???
1# non responding touchscreen:
it might be broken. If your device runs fast, but responds badly to touch.
if it's also lagging, then all i can suggest to do is to reset to factory default. Since it's new phone to you, you shouldn't lose precious data(formats/erases all information stored in phones memory).
2# not really sure, but how about phone calls? can you always phone people? because it might be not connecting with your service provider.
Well, other than that, all i can do is to suggest bringing it to local workshop, or to shop where you bough it if you have guarantee.

Idol 3 5.5 problems after system update

Hello all,
I am new here as I have stayed faaaaar away from androids for many years (flips and windows). I tried to do a search on the boards but, unfortunately, my phone keeps freezing up and this is my only out to the web ATM. Anyways ever since my device prompted for me to download the newest update I wearily decided to go ahead. Ever since then my phone gets stuck on the lock screen, lags ridiculously, and refuses to send a message via text...not to mention random freezes. Is there anyone else having this problem. I know its new, but is this a yet known issue with this phone? I hate to factory reset it again if it is not going to fix anything?
Thank you,
Norseman

Not yet what little I have been able to read around the web, before it locks up again, was it wasn't helping. So I wanted to ask before I wasted my time and it has to wait for my 12 hour shift. Just lack of communication from my site really stinks and may put some things behind.
Only problem I had with the update was serious battery drain from Android OS and System way higher than normal.
Thank you for backing up my reasons for never updating phones, computers, tablets, electronics in general, until I actually need to!

Generally you 'need to' update things when a new version is released because there are usually security enhancements that can be exploited with older firmware.
