it scares me that tmob still dont know how to hard reset the kit they are supplying
to hard reset, push and hold in both the camera and record buttons, while doing that, press reset and release BUT continue to hold the two buttons for a further 5 seconds and the screen will pop up a message saying "to format press send, to cancel press any other button"
obviously press send and itll start the format (reset) process
it goes without saying, but back up all your conatcts and data first as it will wipe it completely

Hi all,
I recently received a Touch HD and initially the vibration effects were all working (on call receipt, on pressing the front buttons, etc).
For some reason the vibration effects have stopped completely.
I'm not sure at what point the vibration stopped, but all I have done on the device is installed the hotfix and also set up a wifi connection.
I tried turning off and on the vibration effect checkbox in the buttons app, soft reseting and there was no effect.
On reading some of the posts here I uninstalled the hotfix, in case this was the issue, but this didn't seem to bring the good vibrations back.
Since I hadn't configured much else on the device I also did a hard reset, but still the vibrations haven't returned.
Can anyone out there help?
Is this possibly a hardware problem?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
JP
Device info:
ROM: 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE
Radio: 1.09.25.14

I am new here but only ten mins ago I had the same problem from a new HD.. called HTC and they said possible Dead On Arrival.. but I have just sent mine back to the dealer and they have agreed to replace by return.. this is a hardware issue as HTC went through every software permetation to try and get it to work.. no joy..
Im not the only one?
I'm there has been another occurrence! stock rom, no hard spl, not ever, hard reset, soft reset, another hard reset, but noting, NOT NOTHING!, not even a little shimmy, I am crying now. Do I really have to send it back, oh no, that is pretty much be the end of my life! Did you send it back to HTC or person you bought it from and where did you buy it?
same problem here... no vibration at the phone... after soft- and hardreset. with and without program-installations...
any solutions?
tnx
Manufacturing Fault
Hi all
Unfortunately it sounds like a hardware problem caused by a manufacturing/design fault.
Cheers

I have bought a device off ebay with no vibration (and therefore no warranty).
Is there no solution? Can it be fixed so that vibration works again or is it not worth the hassle / cost?
Hi guys, I have the htc HD as my primary phone for 18 months, 2 weeks ago my touchscreen gave up on me, only end call button was working so i sent it to warranty and they replaced it. Now i recived it back with a brand new touchscreen, but the vibrating function is no longer working. I will send it back, and ask if it is a hardware problem or a software poroblem and post it.
I have recently purchased a HTC Touch / ELF (So i thought) from eBay.
Turns out it was a CLONE.
To make matters worse it is hanging on the Windows Mobile screen.
Also, a hard reset is not working. Im not even sure it can do a hard reset.
There are also no Red numbers when the phone starts.. does this phone not have a boot loader?
Can i fix this phone at all? I really would love too do so..
I will pay £5 maybe more, to anyone who can get my phone working!
Payment will be made through PAYPAL.
Thanks people!
Lee.
Topic on clones here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3240425#post3240425
I'm not sure, but even after thinking it may be a clone, you miiiight want to try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379318 there.
Can you take any pictures of it?
Just curious, have you tried manually entering bootloader?
Sorry guys just got a reply from another seller of the same phone on ebay.
Turns out the phone does have a bootloader..kind of.. you can hard reset but flashing is not possible.
To enter boot loader you have to hold volume up, camera, and soft reset, then middle button i belive.. i presssed it anyway..
Thanks anyway guys.

haha I'm kinda curious now, is it infact a clone?
Yep. Take a look at the link in the first post. There are tiny differences. Weight, screw placements, serial's, performance etc..
My HTC Touch Pro from Sprint has always had problems. 3 times in a row the keyboard has stopped working and I've gotten it replaced. It's always been very laggy and since it's Sprint I haven't flashed any new roms or anything, just some reg edits an stuff. This most recent time though not only did the keyboard stop working but so did the audio stop working completely. I couldn't hear calls or music or anything, and when the guy tried to "fix" it, it stopped running in portrait as well. He ordered me a replacement a few days ago and it's supposed to come on Monday or Tuesday, he's gonna call me to go get it I have no clue how thats gonna work.. But the problem has gotten even worse. At first whenever I plugged in the earbuds that came with it, the audio would somehow magically return. Not through the buds mind you, they would just hang, through the phones actual speakers. I could make calls and everything again, but suddenly it started lagging like crazy and now it won't even get past the load-up "touch pro" screen. It just freezes there, I can't really go without a phone for 2 or 3 days and I need it on to receive their call. Is there anything I can do to get it running in some working manner?? And what can I do to stop these hardware issues from happening again??
EDIT: Another question, no reason for a new post. Is it possible to store my texts on my computer so I can delete em from my phone? I could never find the files!
It sounds like something is corrupted on your phone. Have you tried a hard reset? That is what returns the phone to "factory fresh". It will wipe out all of your data and any settings you may have changed which is not fun. However, it may solve more problems that it creates.
To Hard reset, turn the power off. Press and hold the volume down and Center button. Use the stylus to soft reset. Keep holding the volume down and center buttons. The screen will then give you instructions. Release and follow instructions.
Another option is to try a custom ROM. If you go this route, read the instructions carefully. Most importantly, USE A CDMA ROM!! Do not use the GSM ROM or much unhappiness will insue.
The downside to a Custom ROM would be that if you determine you need to replace your device under warranty, you have to undo everything. That takes a while and requires some reading.
Good Luck,
Doug M.
Thanks dwmackay! Appreciate the advice and I'll definitely keep all of that in mind when I get the replacement. I've always been curious about flashing ROMs and MightyRom looks very promising, is it safe to do? I'm sure atleast the keyboard will stop working again if not even more than that, would I be able to restore to stock and relock it easily? Appreciate all the advice!
Hello
My phone is an 02 XDA - it has a great value to me in terms of contacts, texts etc, so much so that I cant really afford to lose them.
My mobile battery ran out whilst I was on a call. When I plugged it in again and went to turn the phone on;
It flashes on the blue O2 screen
Then
Flashes on to the Windows mobile screen.
Then
The 'In-call' volume screen appears on the Windows Mobile screen and nothing else happens - it is frozen, stuck, wont go any further - I have asked it nicely to be good, turned it on/off a million times, cried and contemplated life without my contacts and couldn't cope without a stiff drink.
O2 will gladly send it off to restore it to factory default, just as if it were new out of the box with all my contacts and texts gone forever I have checked the forum and I reckon I could more than likely do this myself.
BUT
THERE MUST BE A GENIUS OUT THERE IN THE VIRTUAL WORLD WHO CAN HELP ME GET PAST THE SCREEN AND RETAIN MY CONTACTS or JUST ALLOW ME TO GET THE TEXTS N CONTACTS AND SOD THE PHONE.
Whilst I cannot offer a substantial reward, you will save me from a miserable few months reconciling my contacts and I will be forever grateful - I can offer you the very best in financial Advice for free and I will buy you a pint in NW England or fax you one anywhere else in the world.
Thanks for reading and if you can help, that would be SUPERB.
Cheers
Jeff Hill
PS - I would quote my number, but I cant turn my phone on.....grrrrrr
Try a soft reset using your stylus in the little reset hole on the bottom (if memory serves me correctly).
Hello
Thanks for the reply - I omitted to mention that I have tried the soft reset - I have read a couple of threads and tried the soft reset, then tried a 5 x soft reset suggestion too, but no difference - still O2 splash, then Windows Mobile screen, then 'In Call' volume display, then its stuck/frozen.
Cheers
Jeff
this may sound silly, but then thats just me.
I have never played with an O2 XDa, nor do I know which derivative you are using (not that it would make any difference - I'm just nosey).
When it's in that state, can your PC detect it at all? and then my thinking goes, can you sync to it using activesync / wmdc?

The O2 XDA could be a HTC Wizard but alas I cannot offer anymore help other than suggest the OP posts in the correct forum
I think he has a HTC Wallaby.
I would suggest leaving the battery out overnight, then trying again. Alternatively I have heard of leaving the battery out and holding the power button for a few minutes, ( I think it is called power-cycling).
Hi.
Thank you very much for your suggestions - I will test to see if my pc detects it - i soooooo hope it can, if not, i will leave the battery out overnight tonight and try the power cycling.
I will report back either way tomorrow.
thanks again
Jeff
Bugger - the activesync did not recognice my mobile device.
I will test the battery out overnight tonight - fingers crossed.
Cheers
Jeff
Hi Jez, stu, Mr Test.
I have tried all your suggestions but sadly have to report that none have got me past the same Windows Mobile screen with the 'In call' volume display on it.
Is there any service out there that can take the phone apart and access the drive for the info/date, Iread about a service in america, but am reluctant to just send it overseas etc. Or, do you guys have any more suggestions that will help.
Thanks for your efforts - I have looked in the back cover and the phone is a HTC POLA 160 if that helps anyone identify a solution.
Many thanks
Jeff Hill
I guess that would be a polaris - but i have been lazy and not checked that. It may be worth trawling the forums in there or posting there too as I am not too sure on what else as of yet. I'll have a think tonight
Hello!
I just received my HTC Sensation one week ago and must admit that it's a great device.
But I still have an annoying problem with it. I'm experiencing unwanted reboots (reports sent to htc OTA). It seems to happen when I want to lock the device (power button) with a single hand and probably pressing by mistake at the same time the volume down button. It just turns the device off and reboots (htc logo plus carier logo). Quite annoying as I'm using it with a single hand.
I do not think there's much to do for the time being but wanted to know if you are as well experiencing the same problem? Or is it a specific problem with my device or the carrier version of the software?
In any case, I've contacted HTC for that and waiting for a response but really wanted to know if someone else experienced that
Well I received an answer from HTC.
"Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your HTC Sensation I understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with the device rebooting when you press the power key off accidentally touching the volume keys. I believe that the reason for this is because this is the way that you perform a factory reset using the hardware. I apologise there is no fix for this."
Ok, I know that this is the key combination for a factory reset but how come it does this when pressing shortly (it happens when both buttons are pressed at the same time but less than one second)... Any one else experience the same? For a reboot (bootloader) shouldn't we keep these buttons pressed longer?
In my nexus, you have to push power+volume down+trackball to achieve this soft reset. In Sensation they have left the trackball out of it, as it doesn't have one.
The purpose of this function is to force reset of the phone in case of system hangup, so there is no need to pull the battery. It's not factory reset, weird if they told you so

Ok, I told them that I knew how to enter in bootloader mode but this wasn't definitively the same way...here the answer :-(
"Thank you for your email, and the information provided. I would advise you to try this on another device. As this could be a software issue. As the device is under 28 days old I would advise you to take the device to the retailer and get a replacement device."
I'll probably get an unlocked one this time? ;-)
