Hi!
Lately, it seems that its not possible to view my home IP cameras through Dynamic DNS using either WiFi or GPRS when outside
Anybody faced this problem? Is DynDNS having some problem or are they not providing this feature for free anymore?
Thanks
Mine OK. Using View Commander on my Atom thru GPRS or Wifi.
Try checking if DynDns updates your Dynamic Ip address.
If all else fails....reset your IP Cam.

Hi Jor,
Previously I was using ViewCommmander for viewing on my O2 XDA II when my OS was WM2003SE
Now I use the latest WM5 compatible version 3.22 of the ViewCommander Mobile on my QTEK 9000 (running WM5) but fail to get any picture while outdoor using WiFi or GPRS
There's no problem when I'm using my home network through WiFi
HI FOSA,
Have you tried using your laptop for viewing when you're outside? If the lap top works fine, then it must be the PPC connection settings...
When you;re outside, are you able the surf the web with your PPC?
If yes, likely the problem is with VCM settings. double check the settings, eg ip address, userid pw. Or create another camera setting in VCM.
Last resort....re-install VCM.

Hi Jor
I'm able to connect to other people's public address but not mine, dyndns

Hi jor,
Finally, I managed to use GPRS to access my home IP cameras
I changed my dyndns host to another one and re-set my router and cameras settings
Thanks for your suggestions

Hi there, I'm having problem connecting to the internet using WIFI on my Tornado smartphone (SP5m)... it always connects but takes a while to locate the url, it says "Locating..." in Internet Explorer for a long time and then finally open up the url. To me, it looks like a DNS issue?!
And that's using my own WIFI router at home with a DSL line (5 Mbits), no firewall on it, etc.
But whenever I'm connected to any other WIFI access point (e.g. coffee shops, etc), web pages and other internet stuff would load and open as quick as any WIFI laptop, any thoughts??
Thank you all for your time,
highmighty
I'm having similar problem on my home wifi with 128bit WEP shared key - but i never get over loading...
But I discovered that if I run Skype on the phone, it can connect and since then internet works OK (even mail through POP etc...). I have no idea how to fix it :/, it works excelently with a free wifi networks...
Yep, could it be because my personal wifi connection uses wpa encryption as oppose to no encryption at all (like in coffee shops or elsewhere)?
Try assigning IP manually.
Where would I change that? I'm running WM6 on a SP5m and I don't see where I would modify the way IP address are assigned, either auto or manual?
Thank you for your time
To threadstarter, check your router settings, are you using WEP or WPA which you did not configure on your phone.
Then check to see if you have any MAC filtering included, also ensure DHCP is enabled on your router.
Last resort, if you are using Andot's Perfect English Edition v6, there should be a WLAN IP manager in it under Accesories
You know what? I installed Opera Mini and without changing any wifi settings (router & phone), it now works ultra fast, it locates the proper URL as quick as anywhere else... Internet Explorer for mobile seems to be the problem here?!
Here you go: http://www.modaco.com/WLAN-IP-Manager-t251147.html
You can change IP, gates, DNS and so on.
IE for mobile is slow...
How come IE for mobile is taking forever to "locate" the URL while Opera Mini locates it super fast? Does IE for mobile uses a proxy to render those pages? If so, can I disable that? What other tests could I ran to isolate the issue?
I'd like to find a permanent fix because I'd like to use IE for mobile, which works fine with youtube videos... thanks to you all!
Hi all
I recently purchased an unlocked Treo 750 with use on T-Mobile. This replaced my 700w on Verizon.
I have internet working fine, MMS reprogrammed and working. However I seem to be having problems with VPN on the phone itself.
If I tether the treo to my laptop and use it as my internet connection, I can initiate the VPN client on my laptop and all is fine.
The problem is the VPN on the phone itself when using trying to use applications directly on the phone requiring VPN (ie without the laptop). I configured it, it connects fine, however when trying to use IE or remote desktop it fails to connect.
I get a 503 error in IE on each url I try through the VPN. Makes me think it's trying to hit a proxy of some kind outside of the connection manager.
I've also tried using internet2.voicestream.com as opposed to the default wap.voicestream.com... both function identical and at same speeds. I have the total internet add-on data package.
Remote desktop fails with network not found... which kind of hints at a proxy also.
Note that I do not have any proxies set in the Connections manager, makes me think there is something hard coded.
I have checked the registry for the AutoEnable thing for proxies, but in WM6 this is already set to a value of 1.
Any advice is welcomed
If it is a PPTP VPN connection you are probably screwed, it is slowly emerging that there is a problem with the implementation of MPPE used in WM for PPTP VPN connections. I.e. VPN connects but NO traffic Tx/Rx.
Best bet, try and get your IT to setup the PIX to use L2TP/IPsec I have heard numerous reports that there are no problems with the implementation standard of that VPN connection in WM5/6/6.1.
I'm connecting with my HTC S710 to a WiFi with a static IP. The WiFi connection is set, I can ping other devices within the network but I can't view web pages and synchronize mails. I did lot of tests and I found that the problem is DNS! When I use IP address instead of www.something.com I can view the WWW site!
Does anybody know how to set DNS in my smartphone? DNS address is the same as gateway's in my case.
There's no possibility. Either you activate DHCP on your WiFi Gateway or you use a third party software that allows you to define WiFi profiles.
Does this one work for you? http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-wifi-profiles-v0-0-2.html (although it is originally designed for PPCs)
Hallo fwmone,
thanks for your post!
I have just installed the Wifi Profile program but it's for PPC so there are problems with filling in the right values. I hope I'll be able to figure out how to use it. Anyway the programmer is also Czech so I've wrote him an email asking whether he plans to build Smartphone version..
The wifi I connect to is a local provider and unfortunately he uses static IPs
I'm really surprised that Vox doesn't have such a simple thing like DNS manual settings.
Yeah, the static IP functionality is quite useless without the possibility to set a DNS server.
Means "local provider" you're using some type of wireless internet at home or is it at a location where you can't control the situation? As long as you're using the service at home, you might install a WAP that works as a repeater for the WAN and offers DHCP functionality.
Hi fwmone!
So the problem is solved! The application WiFi Profiles v0.0.5 helped. Despite it's for PPCs it is possible to use it and to set all network configuration including DNS. After applying the profile the connection works fine! GREAT!!
Thanks for your hint!
FYI: that local provider covers our street and I don't control the router/access point. But you're right WAP repeater would be also a solution.
Nice that it worked!
hi,
I have LG GW550.
I have Wifi Router setup at home, without using DHCP.
So my home computer use to connect to Router using static IP.
Now i tried to find out the way to configure in my Smartphone.
But didnt find anything.
Could you please help me to set the Static IP of WLAN adapter from my smartphone.
Thanks in advace.
Chintan,
Dear: I need (Fixed/Static IP) for WM6.1 Non Touch Benq E72. I did before but could not found same solution again on internet. So excuse me and help to find it.
Thanks

I have a 16-node network (used mostly as a cluster computer for meteorological work), Ethernet, 3 switches, all through an ActionTec DSL gateway/router. There is an edge machine with dnsmasq for dns cache'ing and firewall. My ISP assigns three IP addresses, one of which is my network's gateway address. The ActionTec has DHCP turned "on" although I use SNAT, DNAT, and masquerading on my side. I use my internal network to serve an Apache Web site as well.
The Wi-Fi (and other reception, for that matter) is not very good here, so I bought a TrendNet TEW-636APB Wireless Access Point. It's plugged into one of the switches. The Linux hosts and hosts_files are correctly configured and dnsmasq is configured to assign an IP Address to the TEW-636APB based on its MAC.
Everything works just fine, but most importantly, the HTC One (T-mobile) has no Internet connectivity, even though I can read the IP Address assigned to the phone. Everything is on the same subnet, by the way.
Any suggestions to get Internet up and running? I regularly use bash and c-shell as well as other languages but this one has me stumped. Any suggestions?

Additional Info for Wi-Fi Issue
I ruled out some issues in the meantime. The TEW-636APB seems to work fine. I changed each of the config options: same problem. BUT, a laptop connected using Wi-Fi for data works just fine!
On the smartphone (that HTC One), the only URL that connects is on my own network, that is, the Web site served on my subnet and inside my network works just fine. Anything outside of my network fails.
When I turn off Wi-Fi on the cell phone (and use T-Mobile), the Web works just fine.
Very confusing. Any suggestions?

Might be a DNS problem...

Hi Michael,
It seems to me like this a DNS problem, you should try opening google using it's ip address ( try using http ://173.194.35.132/ ) to check connectivity. Also if your phone is rooted you should be able to use some terminal like tool and try to ping some hosts to rule out the dns problem.
Cheers,
Stefan.
P.S.: please use thanks if information was helpful
