Hi all
I recently purchased an unlocked Treo 750 with use on T-Mobile. This replaced my 700w on Verizon.
I have internet working fine, MMS reprogrammed and working. However I seem to be having problems with VPN on the phone itself.
If I tether the treo to my laptop and use it as my internet connection, I can initiate the VPN client on my laptop and all is fine.
The problem is the VPN on the phone itself when using trying to use applications directly on the phone requiring VPN (ie without the laptop). I configured it, it connects fine, however when trying to use IE or remote desktop it fails to connect.
I get a 503 error in IE on each url I try through the VPN. Makes me think it's trying to hit a proxy of some kind outside of the connection manager.
I've also tried using internet2.voicestream.com as opposed to the default wap.voicestream.com... both function identical and at same speeds. I have the total internet add-on data package.
Remote desktop fails with network not found... which kind of hints at a proxy also.
Note that I do not have any proxies set in the Connections manager, makes me think there is something hard coded.
I have checked the registry for the AutoEnable thing for proxies, but in WM6 this is already set to a value of 1.
Any advice is welcomed
If it is a PPTP VPN connection you are probably screwed, it is slowly emerging that there is a problem with the implementation of MPPE used in WM for PPTP VPN connections. I.e. VPN connects but NO traffic Tx/Rx.
Best bet, try and get your IT to setup the PIX to use L2TP/IPsec I have heard numerous reports that there are no problems with the implementation standard of that VPN connection in WM5/6/6.1.

I cant figure it out, I just installed the latest v. WM6 Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297256)
Internet Sharing via Bluetooth works but... when i start my vpn either via ssl or ipsec (on laptop) NOGO. something is in between dont know what...so workaround:
Internet sharing via USB: the device tells me "connected", the new Network connection in control panel/xp tells me "connected" but there is no Internet connection. I try to ping 192.168.0.1 which it made gateway and this is not found. nothing nada. firewall off. nogo. repair. nogo.
*argh* I realize it are 2 different problem but in short: I can not connect as I usually did under the wm5 dialer (and I miss the status lights).
Anyone has a clue?
Hi !
I have the same problem with the same ROM. I didn't found any solution yet.
I didn't try Internet connection shring with Bluetooth. But your problem sounds as a proxy setting problem on your PDA connexion. You should take a look at those settings...
Let us know if you find anything.
edit :
Finally it's working, I re-installed ActiveSync 4.5 and now it's OK.
I reinstalled activesync, modded down to wm5, then again wm6 ...
and magic usb is working but...
My VPN connection on both BlueTooth or Usb is not working. I use the AT&T client to connect to our network but authentication fails with all vpn servers in the list.
That's a shame because this is really the only basic functionality i need to check my e-mail and stuff "on the road". Hmmm... down to WM5!
Unless someone has got VPN working?

sorry. stupid. forgot the checkmark on the authentication tab on the auto-created controlpanel > networkconnections > Windows Mobile 6 Connection > Authentication.
Great!
For reference, using the Cisco VPN client, with Bluetooth and internet sharing, does not work. With WM6, a Bluetooth PAN adapter is created on the PC, and the Cisco VPN doesn't bind to this type of adapter.
Using the same config, but with the USB cable, and the wireless modem, does work.
Unfortunately It does NOT work anymore.
Whatever I try I can not get connection to the Internet
- I start "connect"
- Plugin the usb cable
- The new network connections icon appears under network connections
- It pops up it is connected
- It has an assigned 192.168.0.2
But no internet connection, ping 192.168.0.1 can not be reached, etc...
I turned off the firewall to see if this was the problem. not.
Is there ayone who has got a clue? This is really frustrating.
For what it's worth, I'm using WM6 Black 2.5 on a Hermes (Cing 8525) and I'm able to use WM6 Internet Sharing via BT to connect my laptop to the internet and I am able to use my Cisco VPN client on my laptop to connect to my company's intranet. No problems here so I don't think it's a WM6 problem.... rather a configuration problem... either on your company's VPN concentrator side or your client side. You may want to chat with your IT/Ops dept for configuration settings.
No problems here nither. I use Vista on PC. I need to connect to several networks and just have made some tests. I could reach all of them. The fact is that most of them are built on Draytek routers not Cisco, but they also use IPSec and so on.
Yep I'm having the same problem, my VPN's worked fine with WM5, but went to Black 2.5 and now when I VPN, it connects, assignes me an IP, but wont let me ping the network.
I _think_ it's becuase now the fone shows up as a network rather than a modem, and assigns me a 192.168.0.x address, and the home network is in this too... any suggestions?
share internet connection with ppc
Can i use my ppc as the wireless adapter? do i need to use "wireless modem" or "activesync" to do this? For more detail, if my computer do not have wireless adapter, and now i want to use the wireless adapter on my ppc to connect to the internet. Is it posible?
Has anyone had problems specific to WM6 with VPN connections? I use a Microsoft PPTP VPN to connect back to work, and while the VPN connects and I can access resources on the other end with WM5, WM6 authenticates with the VPN server but never actually connects to servers on the other end. I get error 502 (bad gateway) connecting to web pages, and various shades of "the server could not be found" using Terminal Services, etc. The VPN server logs a successful connection from either OS, but only WM5 seems to be able to connect to resources with the tunnel established. I've used Faria's and mfrazz's WM6 ROMs, and neither works.
If the VPN configuration was off in WM6 vs. WM5, I wouldn't get the "VPN user was granted access" events I use to track usage on the VPN server. Has anyone else seen similar issues? I love WM6 aside from this problem, which appears to be a show-stopper. For now, I'm back to Faria's WM5 so I can get some work done.
So let me broaden the question a little. Does anyone use a WM6 ROM and successfully connect to resources behind a PPTP tunnel? Did it take any massaging on the settings to make the connection??
I have test both PPTP & L2TP/IPSec....
I have tested both PPTP & L2TP/IPSec VPN's with WM6 (varients from all the base ROMs 5.2.318, 5.2.1713 & 5.2.1437) and I have got them all to work. PPTP works flawlessly all the time, however L2TP/IPSec seems to have some conflict with the networking stack & the VoIP stack and only works consistently the 1st time following a soft-reset.
I have tested it with Terminal Services Client to access an internal Windows Terminal Server and it worked fine.
What issues are you having? The main problems people seem to have are related to the logic of when a VPN connection will be used instead of the Internet Connection to send traffic - the Connection Settings etc.
Andy
With WM6 I create the VPN connection, add an exception for my work network, then try to open either a web page or RDP. GPRS connects, the VPN server is contacted soon thereafter, and then nothing happens. If I'm on PIE, I get a 502 error if I try to open URLs, and RDP returns "the server could not be located." I'm using servername.my.workdomain.net for RDP, with "*.my.workdomain.net/*" as the exception rule with both WM5 and WM6, but I can't get past the VPN endpoint with WM6. With WM5 (still using it for now), I can get to web pages and remote desktop without any problems.
Since the VPN is apparently connecting, and the VPN server's log shows my account is granted access, I'm thinking it's not the WM6 VPN configuration. I'm getting through that far, but there's something in the WM6 network stack that's not translating the destination URLs or host name correctly.
If only there was client logging for RDP and PIE...
Still trying to work past this. The PIE error I get when connecting to web sites behind the VPN is:
Error 502 - Bad Request
The server could not resolve your request for uri: /
If I try to connect to directories under the root, the error is (for example):
Error 502 - Bad Request
The server could not resolve your request for uri: /docs
Not sure how I can troubleshoot this...
Posted this in the networking section as well...
I very quicly noticed BT DUN was removed with WM6 and was replaced by ICS. Now when I try to use my cisco VPN client on my laptop to connect to our corporate network (and others as well) I can connect and send packets, but none are ever received. I looked around and found a cab here at xda that adds BT DUN back and installed it. Now the DUN service is found and I set it up as before, but when I get to "DIALING" it never connects and just gives me an error: Error 678: The remote computer did not respond.
Anybody got either BT DUN working again, or found a way to connect to the web from your laptop via ICS and then use cisco vpn client to connect to a remote network?
Ok, here is where I am after spending a day researching...
3 different APN's are listed in ICS. AT&T, ICS, and Proxy. AT&T is associated with wap.cingular and ICS is associated with isp.cingular. One is NATed, the other is not (isp is not). Supposedly using isp.cingular should allow VPN clients to work correctly. This is not the case for me. I've tried also forcing AT&T proxy and not forcing AT&T proxy.
Alternatively, I've tried to use the cab floating around here to add DUN back onto my Treo 750. It works in that I see DUN as a service offered by the phone and I can connect to the phone. I also added modem link back in so I could try USB tethering. This works as well, my laptop sees my phone as a modem. In either case when I dial I just receive the Error 678 listed previously. It looks as though my laptop is controlling the phone like it should, but it looks as though I cannot control the radio? AT&T probably did a radio update at the same time as WM6? Thus the old protocols don't work anymore?
Thoughts, ideas? Help!?
...time for more exposure again.
Anybody?
I am running across the same situation. I can get to the inter via ICS or AT&T. However when I connect the Cisco VPN I can not remote desktop connection.

ATT client
Hey,
I am experiencing a similair problem. I am trying to connect to my corp network but whenever it gets to the authorisation stage it fails.
I am using the ATT network client,...Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Over the last few months I have noticed that my VPN connection to home has gone flaky (i.e. may be due to network issues, but is restricted to tethered phone):
I would open a mobile internet connection from my laptop over a tethered HTC Touch Pro (WinMo 6.1, original ROM), then VPN to my home network - VPN created from the laptop, not the phone. Internet browsing works fine, VPN connection to home network comes up fine, able to ping machines both ways, but then unable to browse machines on home network - it seems an initial connection is made (e.g. VNC would ask for a password, or title bar of web page will load), but then grinds to a halt after a few bytes / KB. All this while internet browsing and ping in both directions are still fine!
Everything works fine if I bypass the phone (connect via USB modem or via another cellular network).
The issue seems unrelated to:
VPN type - can be either via PPTP to router or OpenVPN to linux box on network (!)
Cellular apn used - occurs with both a regular browsing and "VPN" apn.
OS on either side (Windows XP / 7 / Ubuntu)
Phone settings - problem persists in spite of reset to factory defaults.
Any ideas and advice on how to fix / bypass appreciated
Thx
Having an issue using the built-in VPN. I can set up a PPTP VPN and connect, however, once connected I have no internet (no data). As soon as I disconnect, I have data. Did some searching around the web and noticed it was a know issue on Android, but wondering if others on the TF have the same issue?
When using a VPN it uses the gateway on the remote network. If that network requires a proxy server you won't have an internet connection. There are apps out there that let you set proxy settings, but thankfully Google is finally included the options natively in the 3.1 update. What I would really like them to do though is allow you to use your local gateway instead.
I have no problems using AceVPN www.acevpn.com with my TF using the builtin vpn client. My HTC Inspire also works great on there.
What is the built in VPN client you are speaking of?
I am looking for a VPN client i can use to log into my work network - I assume it doesn't have to be the same client as on my laptop?
I am going on holidays and only taking the TF - I want to be able to VPN into my work network if needed. ON the face of it I don't see how it would work since even if I VPN in the network is MS based so not sure how an Android client works on a MS based network - since I am not remoting into a machine with Windows - just VPNing into the network......so once I am in then what?
