Radio 1.12 Vs. Radio 1.13 - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi all, i know this has been discussed in a number of posts, but was wondering for collective info on this post. Some say the battery life on 1.13 is terrible, some say the features are better. What have you noticed in difference between 1.12 and 1.13?
Also, is there any point in upgrading the acutal phone software to 1.13 in your opinion?
Cheers mates

Hey, i have myself tried both versions, and all i can say is that the improvements like a little better signal reception and voice quality are not worth, at least for me, the battery drain this radio version causes, i find the 1.13 rom and 1.12 radio the most stable configuration i've ever had on my magician

New Radio version: 02.47.11

I just finish to download the new radio version for our devices. I can not tell you my impressions about the new radio version, but you can download in Wiki, placed on a folder.
couple of questions on the Radio ROM
1. It looks like it is a G4 Radio ROM. Will it work on the G3 version? If not, where can I find the latest Radio ROM for the G3 version?
2. Does it enable Blackberry Connect support on the Prophet by any chance?
Thanks.
Isn't this the Radio ROM from the Wizard? There is a topic in the Prophet part of the forum that discusses this..
I thought the latest original Radio version for the Prophet was 2.30.21.
I also tried the 2.47.11 on my Prophet. Reception was better, but battery life was drammatic
Wizard, Tornado, Prophet, Oxygen, Artemis, Excalibur:
all these models are based on pretty much same platform.
Latest Radio ( GSM firmaware) for these devices that I am aware of is:
GSM 2.67.90
Just thought that I will let you this know.
Yes I noticed that the reception is much better but at cost of the battery duration. Let me still making more tests about these new Radio.
my radio rom is 2.19.21 how and and how I would get the newst stable?q
The cost is very expensive, at least for me. Just one night, without calls, or touch the Prophet full charge and in the morning the batery meter is almost 26 % less !!!!!!!! Guauuuuu! is to much, you don't think so?
Let me still testing.
Yeah, I already tried this radio rom on my S200 and it drains a lot of batt. I don't recommend it to anyone...
I revert to the other radio rom that is floating around here, but I think that also drains a little more that the official ones....
so which radio rom version we/I should use? And where can I download?
I foud something is not right. When I like to turn the device on, (right button) to make a call phone or make a consult or whatever, the device is dead, so I have to make a soft reset. That's pass me very often, so I decide to revert to other radio version, I mean, to 02.30.21.
My impression about this Radio Version:
Pros: Better signal in all aspect.
Contra: Battery duration, inestable.
So, end of my private testing.
ok. this is something that I would like to check:
The standby mode power consumption is 21mA which it doesn't meet the spec.(but if pressing the key lock into
standby mode, the power consumption is 2.1mA.)
please keep your keypad locked at all the time and see if that will improve battery life.
I wish that I could explain better
this should be valid for all devices with this radio. not only for wizard.
Thanks.

Hello,
I use a prophet whith an older radio 02.30.11.
Do you mean that when you lock the keyboard from the today plugin, the consumption is less?
I tried it today for the whole day and now I have 80% from 100% this morning which is very good! Is it because of the locking?
edit: BTW, how did you measure your consumption?
I tested this radio ROM long time ago when it was first posted here. But I changed back to 02.30.21 after one day.
It was a terrible experience, the device automatically reset during conversations very often. One day, I had to reset the prophet for more than 10 times!!!!!
So, I went back to 02.30.21 right away. And I also warned others not to install this radio ROM in this forum, too. I can not believe you guys are still so brave to take the risk.
@andrew_sh
Do you mean that when you lock the keyboard from the today plugin, the consumption is less?
Yes, that is correct. this bug present in 02.47.xx radio and is fixed in later radios.
I tried it today for the whole day and now I have 80% from 100% this morning which is very good! Is it because of the locking?
Good! I have same result on all my test devices.
edit: BTW, how did you measure your consumption?
I have not meassured it myself. Information in bold is per ... technical documentation

I'm back to radio version 2.30.21 and everything going like a charm, fantastic.
were can I download for my prophet 2.30.21?Mine is still running:
2.19.21
You can find that Radio ROM on the FTP Or use the search...

in search of battery friendly rom

hi currently im using lvsw prophet 220734 rom.im new to ppc .is the rom im using good enough?
and any applications to make battery drain little low.tips pls? thank you all.
Google for Battery Status or OPAMScaler both reduce Clock of the CPU. This save a lot Power. Read wiki.
@parmghali
better you google for OMAPscaler
I use LvsW ROM the one with 8mb pool page. Good performance and the most accurated compsuption i've tested. I have tried among smarts, true, jesterz, shipping roms... i think this one is the one to keep.
Every radio rom past 2.19 gives me low battery time.
I'm using now 2.19.21 with AKU 2.3. AKU 2.3 solved the problem about "home service" on the current network. 2.19.21 solved the problem where the phone was always registering with the GSM netowrk, draining the battery very quickly.
I went from 1 day and a half using 2.61.21 and 2.69.21 radios @aku2.2 to three and a half days of battery time with 2.19.21 [email protected] aku2.3.
me too.
2.19.21 is the best choice for my Prophet (Qtek-ROM 2.20), long standyby and no problems with gprs.

Radio Rom Poll

Hello guys.I thought that,it would be nice to have a poll, about radio roms. Please choose your Radio Rom,and tell if you had problems with the other ones...
2.69.21 is the best radio rom so far... 2.21.xx or lower was good... but anyting between 2.21.xx and 2.69.21 did not work fine on my Qtek S200 G3... with those roms, I got "phone not ready" problem
I didn't notice any differences beween radio roms
so I left 2.47 - the last radio shipped for prophet
the last Radio shipped 2.61
I';m using now 2.69 it it offical? please some one answer where did you get it
I had some broadcast problems in 2.69 but it was from the net work casue I go back to 2.61 and still have them
the problems I didn't recieve any messages from the channels
2.69 is good one as I'm recieving broadcast
Prophet Radio roms & battery leakage WM6 rom--TEST
7 Radio roms tested: 2.07, 2.19, 2.20, 2.30, 2.47, 2.61, & 2.69. (Device-Imate JAMin, G3)
WM6 roms used: PDAviet.v.4.0003, TrueNeytral.v.1.4 (Widcomm bluetooth stack+camera4), & TrueNeytral.v.1.4.MS (Microsoft Bluetooth stack, without camera4)
WM5 rom used: I-Mate last official WWE release.
Protocol: Same setup for every test. After each flash to new radio, ck to verify correct ver installed, 1 more soft reset, in comm manager verify speaker & phone the only ones turned on, others with X, no running phone or connection as shown by icon on top screen. Screen backlight set on 2nd mark from left. (lowest setting with light)
Used latest BatteryStatus Ext.v.1.04 beta3 release.
Results:
1. PDAviet- leakage remained about 87-92 mA for ALL radios.
2. TrueNeytral.v.1.4- leakage remained about 127-132 mA for ALL radios.
3. The above tests used the standard 1200 mAh battery (batteries used charged no less that 85%). Using High Capacity battery, 1800 mAh, all values were increased at least 50-70 mA, sometimes 120 mA or more! (Battery change protocol same for all, unit turned OFF by long press method. After battery switch, 2 soft resets before testing.)
4. Control- last Imate WM5 rom & radio ( Rom version 2.13.9.23, Radio version 02.20.21.) Leakage about 75-80 mA for ALL radios.
5. TrueNeytral.v.1.4.MS- leakage remained about 75-80 mA for ALL radios.
Conclusion/Comments:
Leakage is probably NOT related to radio roms. Largest contributing factors to leakage I could find were backlight setting & battery mAh used, when Prophet in normal resting state. (Of course, running certain progies will drain battery rapidly.)
The smallest mAh value battery drains (in resting state) I've experienced in PPC/Phone, come from the test WM6 roms of Custel for Hermes.
One trick by mUn rom developer, is to turn off phone, turn phone back on, in Comm Manager, AFTER each GPRS session. It seems to work with mUn WM6 roms for Trinity & the drain is indeed less. However, this does not work for the Prophet WM6 roms I've tried so far.
Finally, beware of the higher leak values produced by High Capacity batteries. In effect, you get longer use time between charges, but the battery drain is disproportional to stock batteries. If you find a HC battery with same leak values as stock, grab it!
The latest WM6 rom I'm testing: TrueNeytral.v.1.4.MS
That's cool! very nice information. You're doing like the myth-busters do on Discovery Ch! I thought radio was an important thing cencerning to batt life!
THANKS BRO

Sorry about that, paradis_pal, a typo on my part. I used the 2.69, downloaded from prophet wiki. Thanks for pointing that out.
I use it 2.69 too but where it from, is it official from another prophet ROM, or edited from other phones

Looks like an official radio rom contained in the German T-Mobile release for MDA Vario product. The 2.69 version we're using must be a radio rom extract of this.
Also, the 3.08 radio mentioned in xda forums is from a T-Mobile UK product rom. However, there are so many problems with the 3.08 install on G3 or G4, I'd strongly advise against messing with that one. In addition, the download package is contaminated with a worm/virus according to Avast.
It's very likely, that the 2.47 radio is the best & most stable, in an overall sense. Many people are having problems with the 2.69, but it's hard to know how many of those are using WM6.
Versions:
Rom-Version: 3.8.2.2
Rom-Date: 11/10/06
Radio-Version: 02.69.11

That's your download problem I guess. 'Cos the radio rom is actually 2.19 MB to 2.20 MB

the exact size of the nb radio rom is 2621440 bytes = 2.5 MB, a little more bytes in the NBF file usualy 2622464
the defferent size becasue of the compression that is all, look at the uncomressed size
so what's the shipped radio at this moment? is 2.61? right?

Tired of WM6

I've been a WM user for years, I had the same issue when I upgraded my Axim X50V to WM5.
I've been upgrading to almost every single ROM posted here.
After 100s of crashes, battery drains, radio problems... switched back to WM5, cuz i was unreachable all the time.
Is there any ROM worth trying? no battery/memory drain, no radio issues and no crashes?
Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Try Jwrightmcps Crossbow Rom 2.12.08 WWE which I am using on my Qtek 9000 since it was released on 12/16/2008. I think his rom is the best. I am very satisfied with his rom. I am waiting for his next rom release that supports 128mb of ram since I had my device recently upgraded from 64mb to 128mb of ram by PocketPCTechs.

Thought: The problem's not the ROMs, it's something on your side.
I didn't try many ROMs and with one or two I had stability issues. With the 1.18 radio I had several radio crashes, but most certainly due to a weak battery. With 1.17 none of that. I also didn't have any issues with stability using a WM 6.0 version of thingonaspring's one and I don't have them with Ranju's 7.1 WM 6.1.
Idea: Possibly your problems have something to do with your battery or some software you use, that doesn't work all that good under WM 6.
Suggestion: Check that
Thanks for the quick replay guys,
I tried Jwrightmcps's and Ranju's ROMs, they were two of my favorites, I had some issues with Radio and battery, I decided that i'll buy a new battery and switched back to WM5 until my battery arrives.
Somehow, everything is very stable with WM5, I even canceled my battery order.
I'm pretty sure it's not software related, cuz I even tried ROMs without any additional software, I switched between radio ROMs looking for something that plays well with my service provider.
Do you guys think it's worth trying?

You gotta answer this for yourself. This depends on the benefits you get from WM6\6.1 and how intense the effort you put into this is. And especially the latter one is something we can't even estimate.
I'm usually the first to spend his free time fiddling around with some technical details without any real needs and I just can't help doing so. So I'd certainly try. My wife's just the opposite, so she would (most certainly) not
About the radios, what's your proider and where do you live?
I can't help you much with this, but at least for Germany most people are satisfied with the 1.17 and claim to have better signal or battery life. But sometimes I wonder if most of this isn't just mambo-jambo. Nobody seems to really know what's really different between the radios and I can imagine that many fall for some placebo and the rest is just experiencing "random" changes, not structural benefits of changed algorithms.
Settling for the version your provider distributes seems to be reasonable choice if you don't want to experiment yourself.

Radio update

hi guys, on my Desire S (s-off with Rev), i've updated to pre-rooted rom 2.10.401.5 but i'm still with the old radio (20.28I.30.085), no bugs, no issues but I would like to update to the "correct" radio
here are the questions:
- have i to format&clean cache and partitions?
- would i have any advantages with the new radio?
- is it real that the 20.4801.xx radio has some battery drain's issue and so it's better to use 20.48.30 radio?
To answer some of your questions:
You don't have to format anything, although wiping your cache is recommended, because not doing it could lead to a bootloop after the radio is updated.
Strictly speaking, any advantages gained by changing a radio is probably only minimal. Some report better battery life, better reception, while most (me included) don't notice any difference. The opposite can happen, a friend of mine updated to a newer radio and it broke his wireless for good, so he had to revert.
I don't know about any battery issues, since I've not used that particular radio, but the general rule of thumb is, if you don't have any real problems with your current radio, there shouldn't be any reason to change it.
That's my 2 cents anyway, hope someone more knowledgeable in these matters can provide more info
I'm running he 20.4801 radio and actuLly find my battery life has improved over he 20.48 one.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
excuse me but didn't you say that you've had battery drain with 20.4801 and so you tryed the older 20.48.30?
