XDAIIi end of life declaired... - General Topics

Just heard that the XDAIIi has been declaired END OF LIFE.
Which is a real pain in the arse as I was about to order 600, and o2 only have 42 left as of today.
i dont know if anybody can confirm this news?

Does this mean that XDA IIi is designed so poorly and they give up making/supporting them? :?

Hi...
IT is a sad news though....as per the info..the manufacturing contract between O2 and HTC is terminated so there will not be any support for the HTC devices from O2..
It is also informed that the contract is terminated over a fighting issue between I-mate and O2 as O2 insisted that HTC should make either for I-mate or for them...so....that's why Quanta is in picture and there is Atom and in turn there is Prophet from HTC....

Well who needs support from O2 anyway, they're crap. This forum is the place where you cry for help  I don't care if they stop providing support for HTC devices.

Expansion Packs (Expansys)

Happy Brand New Year Y'all.
Listen. Just browsed the following pages at Expansys.com regarding the above. Can someone tell me what hardware differences there are between the two devices. I'll be damned if the Expansion Pack for I-Mate could not work with the XDAII. Check out the price difference!

I just rang them and they said they are 2 identical products but with different manufacturies (excuise my spelling) hence the different price, the Cheaper £82 inc VAT should be ready first week in Feb

wooh Bo Selcta got to Jamica great show, they are identical though quite a rip of and I dont belive for one moment they different manufactures just different boxes that HTC packaged them in
when the rep said to me "different manufactures" i did say "do you mean from different airtime providers" he said "yeh yeh different manufactures" So i take it he had no idea the phone was sold in 2 formats but they are both the same.

So did anyone work out if the I-mate backpack fits & works on the XDAII?
well since they are both HTC Himalaya
and the only difference between I-mate, xda2 and mda2
is a printet label on the device and custom rom
then unless they made some software block it would work
CF Backpacks
Yes - They are all interchangeable ...
BTW: If anyone has one they want to sell, I need a couple for a project..
[email protected] if you've got one
Cheers

Expansys, ey? Fact is that both are not available yet and in good Expansys tradition they list products for pre-order that they cannot deliver on - they just want you to place a pre-order and hope you will stick with it once the product becomes available... OK, prices on this path are just entirely wrong, but who cares about customers at Expansys anyway
Agree Frank
Have to agree, Frank - I notice you're a local . They should at least be stating accurately when a product is to be released and what the likely wait times are.
Not to mention the fact that the grey market of these products through Expansys just messes up the support channels here in Australia. We can't compete with a zero warranty, zero support product here!!! We've got to factor replacement, support and warranty costs - Real people, real families and real time...
It's hard enough supporting the issues in the current iMate lines (Like helping customers install Widcomm Bluetooth stacks to get GPS units and Navigation systems like Destinator working) - Now that O2 is looking like it'll pull out of Australia altogether now that the Telstra Australia deal pulled away from O2 to iMate (Carrier devices) ... It's going to be interesting what happens with the grey market for these products...
Carrier Devices won't touch a unit from outside Australia!
Cheers.

Has anyone tried a CF Wi-FI (802.11b) card with the expansion pack?
Do standard CF memory cards stick out a lot or are they flush when installed?
I'm thinking about an i-Mate or XDA-II but I'll need the expansion pack and the ability for Wi-FI (802.11b).
Thank you in advance for the help...
JB
Someone has to actually get the Backpack before we can try it
I ordered one from a place that it was suggested actually had them in stock. I ordered, knowing full well of course that I'd get the "we apologize, but..." e-mail. And of course, a few hours later, I got that e-mail. They claim they had been told this week they would get them, now they are told next Wed Jan 28th. I'll believe it when I see a shipment tracking number. I think HTC has been saying "next week" for the Backpack since November.
I have a Socket CF WiFi card I've been dying to try. My Sandisk SD card works fine, but its a bit awkward the way it sticks out so far and the Socket CF card, with its small antenna, would not seem to extend beyond the edge of the XDA, according to the pictures I've seen of the CF slot on the Backpack.
HTC has handled their accessories very poorly IMO. I don't understand what the holdup is getting them out. The XDA II has been out for months now, but try and get even something as basic as a spare battery. At this rate, the XDA III will be out just as accessories for the XDA II are hitting stores
OK - thanks.
I had not realized that the backpacks were not "shipping" yet.
Please keep us posted.

CF Backpack delivery date!
G'day All,
The CF backpack shipment here is due on Feb 21st 2004. ie. Another few weeks... That's the iMate branded one.. It'll be interesting to see if the O2 branded ones turn up first - But I DEFINITELY doubt it!!
Cheers

P.S. If you want one, http://estore.pressd.com in the Pocket PC Section.
Expansion Packs have arrived at expansis UK
I have cantacted Expansis and asked when they will have the expansion packs. They say in 4 working days (Monday in my reconing)
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=109731&asource=106055
They aslo said this is their second shipment as the first lot had run out.
I also noticed that the O2 version has now gone up in price from their previous listing and is very similar to the imate price. But you have to wait 40 days for it.
If anyone has tried it out yet let me know what you think.

But then again he could be lying because i have been on the t mobile germany site and its not listed on there anywhere.

Ive just got some good news for you buddy.
Ive rang t-mob today and they said that they were told a release time of around the end of may, so within the first few weeks of June it should be here - Words from the lovely lady of T-Mobile Business Customer Support FINALLY
It is NOT released here in Germany yet. (There was only a "beta" device on the CeBit 2006.) In a german pdf of the specs of the device is the release date Q3 2006.
Any ideas on when it'll be released in the SouthEast Asian region?

LMAO! so in some random thread, you just said you want too touch your self!
EDIT - Ill add you too msn because the forum seems to have come to a stop
I dont know if this is news, but the T-Mobile website has now taken the MDA Vario off......Maybe because the Vario II is on its way?
EDIT - Just been told its going to be at least October now To say im gutted is an under statement.
Someone in another forum was told late may is planned, but june was likely. this makes no sense. if o2 germny is advertising its prices, why would tmob wait a further half a year?
i know mate, it seems so strange. I just dont know who to believe anymore
if you look on the CPW site under the Vario 1 it lists it as discontinued...
maybe a call to CPW wouldnt go a miss?
Just spoke to t-mobile .. very helpful...
Asked on the release date.. and the reply was...
"ma....... June"
These things are never set in stone - might have to wait for it then - but no official date yet.
Device could already be in shops but first they had to make a branding that makes it realy useless
Well i dunno what to think lads and lasses, each time i call i get a different answer, and it looks like you guys do too. Ive found T-Mobile Small business number to be the best, and by that i mean they actually know the the vario II exsists! lol.
Ill give them another call now and see what response i get
EDIT - Answer i got was - Its doesnt exsist  But the business line was closed so i had to ring the personal customers line.
Spoke to o2...

This and the previous post highlight the fact that the front line jobs in these places always seem to be filled with muppets who have no clue about the devices.
It's so sad. I was in O2 sales, and the product knowledge was shockingly bad. How we made sales was beyond me.
They are all real n00bs - the guys in the local stores too - normaly they sell mobile phones, they don't even know what a pocket pc is. For those people, a MDA is only a big phone with a big display and no buttons.

XDA Zinc, anyone had any luck?

Supposed to be out today, but O2 tell me they are not in stock. Has anyone else had any luck?
o2 are always behind the times, partly due to them always making pointless rubbish like o2 active for their phones. however as this forum is for htc devices only, i doubt there will be a forum
"Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a secretive firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names..."
from the xda portal, there used to be a section which said something like this-
"the only things not wrong about the site name/address are the dash and the dot..."
it should really be called something like
www.devices-manfactured-specifically-by-htc-developers.com
says v in this thread
I don't quite get your point, I am not asking for a forum on it. I can guarantee you that many people from this forum are looking into getting this phone, so i thought it was a good place to ask.
Can you suggest any other forums (which name themselves properly) that might be of more help?
I rang o2, who said they wil no longer stocking this handset... pretty lame really.

Absolutely - I rang them on Friday and they said they were still all on for the Zinc. However, someone on one of the Universal forums said there were real problems with it.
The imate ultimate looks a better bet. Shame O2 won't have the taste to go for it.

I looked at your other posts, including why is this forum just htc? and because this is your second thread about the xda zinc, i just thought it would be like asking about a nokia or blackberry release (which generally doesn't happen). That said, I really hope you or someone else gets one because unless o2 make another horribly slow rom, I want one. And this is the only place where people are likely to talk specifically about it, and I/we can find out if it's any good...
I guess that clears it up, or not
It is a crap..I returned to the dealer in two days..very buggy..takes long time to get on to network..one has to manuallt set the GSM only then it detects and logs on to GSM networks..very thick and bulkier than Hermes...and as usual O2 crap is there.with some crap from Asus..

REALLY??? I've been hassleing o2 for the trion for ages. Was told its only out in Germany, the UK gets the Zinc. I really hope you're right!!
EDIT: Just called o2 myself. Indeed the Xda ZINC has officially been pulled "We are no longer going to release this phone". Instead we have the Trion (Hermes) out on 16th April, together with the o2 Argon (whatever that is...I've never heard of it and nor had the o2 guy).
Looks like I'll finally get my Hermes (although I really want the HTC Kaiser which has integrated GPS)
The Trion will be out week starting 2nd of April (yeah right, i will believe that when i see it)
And they dont have a clue what the Argon is which i find quite funny. I will ask my friend at O2 what the Argon is when he gets back from holiday.
although im going to have to wait yet another month, i guess its good news. atleast they are going to release something to replace my mini s. we'l wait and see.
I'm led to believe that the Argon is an HTC device with inbuilt GPS - go search the HTC site? Not sure the model.
Strange, as the only one with GPS on their site is already out as the Orbit.
I have heard it is a full sized business device designed to replace the XDA II/IIs. I guess all the firms using them want to upgrade?
I'm wondering if the O2 XDA Argon is actually the long-rumoured Universal replacement, the HTC Omni?

Xda Argon...w*f?!

Hey ppl check it out the xda argon
http://businessshop.o2.co.uk/phone_detail.aspx?id=94&groupid=4
NOOOOO xda flame what is the matter with o2? anyone no how i can get a hold of the flame? cos it looks like o2 not gonna release it in the uk or europe!
thanks
S1MB4D
that argon looks like little more then an alpine with wm5 and a better cam
odd choice for this day and age
It's a renamed Trion, which is a rebadged Hermes
so i guess o2 gonna be jerks and not release flame here?
Looks a lot like this to me
The picture of the XDA Argon looks a lot like this HTC P6300 (Panda) to me, what does anyone else think? http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=735
yeh, i think on website called coolsmartphones they had speculated it would be the panda.
NOT a rebadged Trion, which is being (has been) released separately
is there not something about htc not letting companys like o2 rebadged devices anymore ?
was that not why o2 and tmobile starting getting other suppliers for devices they wanted to be named o2 and tmobile
and why imate was left out in the cold by htc ?
advice plz!!!
hey guys a bit of advice
you lot think i should bother to upgrade with o2 with the orbit or should i go sell the upgrade and then buy the flame?

yep..now the argon users will complain for WM6
But, IMHO, I would really love get this device. You atleast need 3.5" screen to do something useful. It just does not make any sense working on a 2.8" device. Does it?
That is a joke, it looks like they are relying on sentimental reasons to invoke XDA2 users to buy this. With the O2 Flame being launched next week, why would anyone buy this?
There are plenty of online shops who are already taking orders for the Flame - use Australian sites if you are seeking extra security. Retail price online is about 500 quid.
Hi, a lot of conflicting stuff on the Argon so let me set the record straight. It's an HTC Panda badged for O2. It runs on WM5 althought O2 will be rolling out with WM6 in the near future. CPU is 400Mhz Samsung 2442. O2 have a large client base in the UK using the XdaIIi form factor and there has been high demand for continuity since HTC pulled the plug on the XdaIIi. I manage over 800 XdaIIi's and the Argon is key to our future growth until something better with a 3.5" screen comes along.
main thing that o2 are going back to the xda2 style is that also of businesses use the xda2 for tracking things eg taxi`s, dhl etc all have carkits or cradles for them.this is a stroke of genius from o2,wait till you guys see wot o2 have in the next xda pipeline i cant wait...

O2 XDA Stellar release in Germany?

Hi @ll..
yesterday is was in an O2 Store and there was an information, that the XDA Orbit 2 (it´s a HTC Touch Cruise i think), will be released by O2 on 2nd December.
At home i found on the internet, that O2 will also release an "XDA Stellar", but no information about when it will come in Germany?
I was astounded about that PDA!! And now I think it will necessarily have it!! THATs SO COOL!!
but i don´t know, what Accessories the O2 Device will bring with it.
Also i could buy the original HTC Tytn II (is that the Kaiser?), but i think the o2 will be cheaper with more Accessories..
Someone has more information about it??
thanxx 2 @ll
[NEWS]
I phoned with the customer support of o2..
now it seems, that the XDA Stella(r) will not come in Germay
Instead of this one, the XDA Orbit 2 will come out (aka HTC Touche Cruise)
with carholder, Tom Tom, etc..
And no i decided to buy an original HTC TyTN II
me, as one of O2 owner, will not buy any O2 product anymore,.
It is expensive, and bad in customer service,.
In atom forum, most people agree of not going to buy any O2 device,.
It is better to use a HTC device, so many useful apps, WM6 upgrade is prepared by the Official, and espesially good in customer service,.
look at the ATOM forum, me, they, and any others members, havent solve the problem for WM6 ROM, (so we dont have a perfect WM6 ROM yet)
but look at HTC device, any non-perfect ROM?? nope,.
that because they have an official WM6 ROM,.
@ Garmin
you are right..
so i decided to buy the one from HTC.
But i never had problems the support of o2 (germany). this was great!
And the thing, why i wanted the one from o2, are the accessories like full TomTom, things for the car and the second pen..
My hopes dashed
Just got my hopes up that the Stellar was going to answer my prayers but now discovered that it only has a 2.8" screen.
I've had an XDA IIi for almost three years now. About every six months I have a search for any worthwhile upgrades and keep being surprised that HTC haven't brought anything out. All I want is an XDA IIi (or equivalent with a 3.5" screen as I use it for lots of surfing) with fast web browsing (3G). GPS would be nice. A decent camera would be nice but I'm not that fussed.
The XDA Exec looked good but was just too heavy (and based on some friends' experiences quite buggy and unreliable).
The XDA Trion got my hopes up but only had the 2.8" screen.
Is it just me? I just can't believe it. I have other few friends clutching onto other XDAs as well because they don't want to downgrade to something else.
Maybe the Samsung F700 will do it...
