WM2005 on XDA2s? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 2005 Upgrading

i have the XDA2s which IIRC has less memory than the XDA2i (which most people seem to have)
Will it still handle Windows 2005? I have WM SE2 at the moment and the o2 software is always crashing it. i accidently did a hard reset the other day which was very annoying.
Was thinking of doing the upgrade to get rid of the o2 software. Will all the o2 stuff still work ok? I'm only about 6 months into the contract and obviously dont want to ruin the phone but I also have no idea what I'm doing...

XDA2 Dproblems, and a lousy response from O2

in the 12 months I have had the XDA2 i have never had a problem unitl the last couple of weeks. Firstly the sound and microphone went, just after the o2 contract expired and now the XDA2 will lock up, i have tried the soft reset and nothing happens beyound the boot screen showing the Rom version. I try a hard reset and most of the time it just locks up at the opening screen,. On the occassions when it has restored, the 02 software is missing. Can anyone give me advice on what it may be or where i can get it repaired.
I currently dont have much faith in 02 since for warranty purposes on their xda2 website under faq's no3. It states "In europe XDA2's have 24 month warranty and according to O2, the Uk is not part of Europe and the xda2 has a 12month warranty.
the uk is not part of europe yeah right take legal advice and let know you may go to the press they hate bad pr mine was just replaced ad the serial port had broken when i bought it i took insurance out with o2 and I sent the handset only back and got a new full pack.
though i do agree there customer service is crap (sorry mods) to say the least i set the fax program up and it took 2 weeks for them to sort a number out and noone in data support knew how the fax software worked or wheather it would autoconnect it wont.
as for the lack of instore knowledge they seam to bring things out then train the staff about 3 months later youd think one person would be a senior trainer and yes i only use the xda for data

XDA Atom Waste of Money

I bought XDA Atom a three days ago and used it has got good features but the device is very slow and it hangs all the times. If u try n open the camera it hangs. Even at the configuiration time also it hangs. At last finally i have sold this phone i was pretty fed up of it. It was damn slow and hangs all the time. The response time is very slow.
So I really recommend dont even think of buying it.
Jeet, you like collecting phones don't you!
I'd love to get my hands on an Atom, don't think they're on sale in the UK yet. Nice to develop for WM5 on a small device for the pocket. Wizard isn't really for me, Atom seems perfect...
Have you tried soft resetting and sidestepping the customised extended ROM?
V
My atom was also a laggy.
I got rid of the O2connect that is always loaded from startup and it now flys.
I haven't had any lockups after 4 days of hard testing, and while the camera is laggy it's not that bad.
All in all I think my atom is amazing, and I'm very happy with it.
Regards,
Simon
Hi Jeet,
Based on yr reviews..I ordered one atom to resale..and I checked it thoroughly.I did not notice any lock ups...What I did, I hard resetted it and then started exploring...also did the self test.
THere's nim extended ROM I think...the Memory management is totally differrent...something like 2003SE but on WM5...]
u have 60 MB RAM, 22 MB of Main Memory and 43.86 MB of Storage
So it is entirely differrent...I shd say a Mix of HP iPaqs system with WM5..one needs to investigate more...

Hi Simon.
Do you mind telling us how you removed it from the startup?
You can say that I'm not familiar with the registry, but I've edited it.
I'm planning to remove more than that O2 connect. The MediaPlus SMS plus seem useless to me too.
Thanks!
Hi there,
To remove it just go into file manager and when windows / startup.
There are shortcuts to the apps that get loaded every time you reboot.
I just removed them and my atom is now much faster, i.e. you don't get those nasty pauses every now and then for no reason.

Simon
My Indonesian cousin recently got an XDA Atom too with the same observations as you guys.
As far as i'm concerned:
considering the enhanced features like WiFi and a 2MPx camera, with the processor type/speed not considerably improved, "lagging" and "hanging" is not surprising.
Too bad you sold the phone though. Usually 1st edition O/S programs have a lot of bugs. Most probably an upgraded program available in 3-6 months time may solve the existing problems
Pogi
I have the same negative experience and I belive it is all software related and can be fixed. Once again, hardware spec is not everything, at the end of the day it is human being making things work. Hope O2 will learn from it and qucikly fix Atom before damge of the O2 name is too deep to be reparied.
my issue with the Atom is only the outgoing sound quality. Ive had it for 2 days and everyone Ive spoken with has had troubles hearing me, complaining of 'muffled' sound and very low volume....
anyone else have this? I guess I should be returning mine? Ive not seen many complaints about this...

I-Mate JAQ4?

I bought a I-MATE JAQ4 from a software developer about 8 months ago. I guess this model never went into production, and the phone is a prototype. I-MATE quit the JAQ line. Oh well.
Anyway, anybody know what alternative OS builds I can install on this thing? I am guessing it is not too much different than the JAQ3, it just has WM6 on it.
Any insightful information about this device would be appreciated.
Thanks.
*bump*.....
Imate Jaq4
I also have a the Imate JAQ4 (which is a prototype) - I have been in touch with Imate (via their site) apparently the model is due for release anytime now in this country.
Try checking out the site for suitable downloads.
The only problem I have now encountered is finding a replacement battery - I had to do a hard reset on my unit and since then the battery wont charge (unless any one out there knows a way to jump start the battery back to life).
Everywhere I have tried that advertise compatable batteries do not seem to carry any stock.
I am not sure what is going on with the I-Mate JAQ4, however...
Isn't the same as the Pharos Traveler M619 (http://www.pharosgps.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=001%5FPTL619%5F7%2E9&cat=136 )? I got one, pretty good, but slow processor and low memory (very similar to the Dash, at least it seems to me, but with bigger screen, touch screen and gps, )
There currently not much support in the way of firmware upgrades, but they did release version 6.1 a while back.
GPS refuse SD CARD ,WHY?
my configuration: 2G MICRO SD WITH ADAPTER
when i launch GPS , sd disappear and can't be accessed. i have to plug out and insert again.
why?
there is some patch for this bug .
thanks

Buying a used Telus TP2 CDMA, inspection tips?

So i'm finally doing it, buying a used TP2 from someone on craigslist.
Any suggestions on what to look for when I inspect the phone before handing over the money?
Cosmetic issues aside, I'm more looking for software problems that i should keep an eye out for. thanks
I buyed one..i test the connections GPS, BT, WiFI, Charging, Active sync with comp... But... when i start to use the phone on full capacity the windows crashed..restart after restart..take care....to be a total lose i try to rewrite the windows..and by mistake a start to write Rafael software instead of Rhodium..and right the phone is at a profesional service..Please take care.
Telus Phone
Hi there ,
I have a telus TP2, and I did drop it 2 or 3 times on the ground.from the table. (nothing is broken)
But If I check closely the space from the Keyboard to the lcd (closed phone) I see that I "could" open it from the wrong side..
The phone is not "flush" anymore.
So if you see "through" the phone (1mm/1.5mm) that means the phone was probably dropped.. (best guess)

WLAN card for TREO 650

can somebody tell me how can i use my wifi card w/ my treo 650?
please??
you will need a specialty driver which requires you to do a hard reset everytime you attach and use a wlan card on your treo 650. i've tried it, not worth it. live with it. palm was thinking through their asses when they made the later palmOS treos and now they are dead, gone and miserly remembered as the failures that they were. get yourself a netbook or tablet instead and move on.
