Hi, i just upgraded my os to Windows Vista and came across a slight problem when trying to add programs to my Kaiser. The problem is that i was trying to install two different programs to my phone but they are not in cab form. They are windows installers, so when i try to run them they insist that you have activesync. But as you all know Windows Vista does not use activesync it uses windows mobile device center, and any time i run them it just says something like "activesync is not installed" or "not running". I have done several searches and tried two programs that i thought might help. These were "universal extractor" and "exe2cab", but none worked. If anyone knows how to get these .exe installers to work with Vista or how to get them in cab form please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
you should have windows sync center, and device center too.
assuming your with vista business/ultimate
heres a nice tutorial http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/11/22/how-to-sync-your-windows-mobile-device-to-a-windows-vista-pc/
I got an issues with the whole mobile office suite. I had office mobile 6.1 installed from Microsoft site for my windows 6 pro device, and all was working well. However, now nothing is working. Excel gives me a pxl error, word says it can't open a file, or even create a new file. Okay so i thought I would reinstall it and see what happens, but it won't let me saying I have a newer version installed or something. So uninstall it same issue with the installer, not to mention the same issue with the whole office suite. So what can I do? Btw my device never came with one note nor did it get installed with office 6.1. Thank you.
Anyone please?
What I would try, if I had this problem would be uninstall again, then use a file manager to search and totally remove program files and folders related to office, then search the registry with a registry tool and remove all signs of Office, then install it again. The registry bit can be tricky if you don't know what you are doing but I would try anyway!
Yeah I would do that but it seems like my computer won't let me use the MSI file to install the 6.1 update.
I have two completely different computers, both running Windows XP Professional SP3. One's my work PC, and the other's a home built one.
The situation is, whether it's my StarTrek phone, my HTC Kaiser (AT&T Tilt), or even the AT&T 8525 I had before that, if I go into My Computer > Mobile Device > My Windows Mobile-Based Device, as soon as I click on Storage Card, Windows Explorer closes and reopens itself. There's a log in the Application Event Viewer which says:
Source: Winlogon
Event ID: 1002
The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.
I then tried to check "Launch each folder in a separate process" in Tools>Folder Options>View, but I get the same problem.
Strangely it happens on both computers, which have very different configurations. At my previous employer it happened there as well, which was again a different computer of course.
So I thought maybe it's my Storage Card, because that's the common denominator. It's a 1GB Corsair Micro SD card. Well not exactly, because I can go to the Program Files folder on my AT&T Tilt for example, but then no matter what folder I try to enter in there, explorer closes again.
I'm running ActiveSync Version 4.5.0 (Build 5096), and I don't think there's another version available for Windows XP.
Any ideas? Thanks for reading!
Update:
I can easily browse any folders if I plug my phone into a Windows Vista machine.
Guess there's a bug in Windows XP SP3 explorer.exe and activesync 4.5. Same exact device, memory card, and usb cable work flawlessly in Vista.
How to synchronize WM6.1 device with Lotus notes?
I tried Laplink PDAsync 4.1.1033 and XTNDConnect PC 6.5.9033 but I always get message:
Synchronization Failed: 17.11.2008 22:05:41
Error 1004: Unable to connect to device. Verify that ActiveSync is running.
Both programs worked with WM6.0.
Any solution?
I am using the IBM Lotus EasySync Pro which is working finw with my HTC Touch and WM 6.1 . I have tried a few different firmware versions w/o problems. Dow this is not a freeware application.

PDA Sync 4 and Notes 6.5
it even works nicely with my new Xperia.
have you installed the CAB file on the device? the Sync Software.WM5.CAB?
you can find it in the laplink installation directory and you need this to sync.
There is no more problems with XTNDConnect v7.0. Thanks for your help anyway.
\\windows\101\xcpcsyncsvr.exe : error 2
I tried XTNDConnect V7.0, however when I first run it and it attempts to instal to the device (must be the device and not storage card) it chucks up the error "\\windows\101\xcpcsyncsvr.exe : error 2" that it can't see the .exe. I have checked in the win 101 folder and the file is there; there is also a file XcpcApiMgr.dll.
I checked on the Sybase WS http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1054315 and point 6. advises that
"This issue is being reported with certain models of HTC-built Windows Mobile 5.0/6.0 Smartphones. It is caused by a certain type of security these devices have, which prevents the XTNDConnect PC CAB file from being installed properly on the device."
and instructs to download a security manager.zip from their FTP (this is a broken link and I have had no reply from them as yet).
and if this does not work to
"If you are still unable to install the XCPC CAB file onto your Windows Mobile 5.0/6.0 Smartphone it may be necessary to follow the manual unlock instructions from the link below."
I also checked in the reg as they advise but the security setting "tier 1" on the device is already as they specify.
Can any one help me please?
Cheers, Tom (1st post) Notes 7.0, Touch HD ROM 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE
I'm using mNotes from Commontime. Tried a few other apps but like mNotes the best. Does over the air sync and never have to worry about connecting my phone. A little pricey at regular price, but not bad when it goes on sale.
WM6.1 and PDAsync 4 - missing CAB
I have Laplink's pdasync 4 trial installed, but don't seem to have the CAB file on my htc diamond. Any advise how to get it is much appreciated!

Had the same problem with my Touch HD (worked occassionally, getting worse over time - EasySync 4.6, Notes 7).
I switched to CommonTime mNotes Desktop - works perfect (not free and if there is anything to mourn, it's that they only offer subscriptions - that means annual fees...).
EasySync Pro 4.2.6 Install Solved!
I've had various issues reinstalling DeLorme and EasySync on my WM 6.1 Fuze, but this time, after the June ROM Official upgrade, it fails continuously with the \Windows\211\XCPCSyncSvr.exe Fails, Err 2. I performed a hard reset, started ActiveSync (From XP Pro SP3) but did NOT configure it, only set it up as Guest file access. Launched the EasySync exe, and when the program sync message came up, clicked on both DeLorme and EasySync Pro. Loaded up like a champ on the Fuze this time. Now I'm going back and setting up ActiveSync and EasySync configurations.
Whew!
Hi !
I just got an HTC Touch HD and I have the same problem with XTND Connect...
It worked with my old Touch Cruise. Well it almost worked because Notes is really a piece of s**t ! It worked on single way sync (from pda to pc). In dual way sync I had troubles, Notes having difficulties to treat the periodical items from the pda...
With the HD it works first time, and after you get an error popup at startup and while trying to synchronize... And then no way to reinstall correctly XTND on the pda...
Anyone has the solution, I'm interested !
I can't use any other software on my pc cause it's my profesionnal one and it's locked up from everywhere...!
SOLVED: I uninstalled it in the computer's Device Manager, removed the device, reinstalled it, scanned for hardware changes, and it now works. Sorry for the bother to all of you. This might be helpful to the 'simpler' website members [Like ME! ] so I am leaving it here.
I have a Sprint TouchPro 2 with OEM 6.1 os. I have two laptops. Both are running Windows 7. One version is 'professional' the other is 'ultimate'. Both are 32 bit systems. Both have synchronized with this phone as recently as 2 weeks ago with no problems.
My phone syncronizes fine on the Windows 7 Professional computer through WMDC. HOWEVER, I then plug it into my Windows 7 Ultimate computer and WMDC can't find the device. It searches forever and then says [in red] ERROR where it said 'Searching' or 'Connected' before. I have run all the same updates on the computers from Microsoft. the only difference in software I can think of is that I used the Ultimate computer to install the .NET 3.5 compact program onto the phone, and now it doesn't work.
I'll try to remove the .NET from the Windows 7 Ultimate computer, but do I need it installed on THIS computer to keep it installed on my phone?
Can anyone think of any other possible problems?
I don't think it's the phone, as it works on the Professional computer, just not on the Ultimate one. The settings are the same [all checked and allowing connections in bluetooth in both: the settings are all the same].
I just can't get the Ultimate to recognize that the phone is plugged in.
UPDATE:
When I checked in the device manager, it stated that: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
Does anyone have any suggestions on where specifically to look? Thanks!
same problem here.
I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit and WMDC 6.1.6965.0
