Vista and .exe installers - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hi, i just upgraded my os to Windows Vista and came across a slight problem when trying to add programs to my Kaiser. The problem is that i was trying to install two different programs to my phone but they are not in cab form. They are windows installers, so when i try to run them they insist that you have activesync. But as you all know Windows Vista does not use activesync it uses windows mobile device center, and any time i run them it just says something like "activesync is not installed" or "not running". I have done several searches and tried two programs that i thought might help. These were "universal extractor" and "exe2cab", but none worked. If anyone knows how to get these .exe installers to work with Vista or how to get them in cab form please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

you should have windows sync center, and device center too.
assuming your with vista business/ultimate
heres a nice tutorial http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/11/22/how-to-sync-your-windows-mobile-device-to-a-windows-vista-pc/

Flashing on Vista with a XP VM

Has anyone tried this as a potential workaround? VirtualBox certainly lets your VM see and use USB devices from the host system, and it feels like an easier solution than the nasty-looking Vista workarounds thanks to Mobile Device Centre.
Thoughts?
I have no issues flashing my Tilt using WMDC on Vista Business. But I did use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (freeware) running XP to flash my Wizard because the RUU flash utilities would run "strange" on Vista. Virtual PC allows direct USB access from disk images.
Haven't tried that. What problems are you having?
I have flashed two tilt phones multiple times using vista and have had no problems whatsoever. Sometimes I have to connect and reconnect it a couple times for it to sync properly, but that's a widespread problem I have seen.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding in that case - the only details I managed to find involved messing about with drivers to create some horrible cross-breed of Activesync and WMDC - somthing I can do, but would rather not.
This was all rather old information however, so is it possible to complete the whole flashing process (installing SPL etc) on a 'virgin' copy of Vista? If not, I think I'd probably prefer to try a VM given NotATreoFan's positive experiance with it.

The RUU ROM Update Utility used for flashing all Kaiser ROMs will run native in Vista without making any modifications to WMDC.
That being said, WMDC runs a subprocess that is used to sync with WM2003 and earlier devices, and on rare occasions (happened to me 1 time out of 100+ flashes), you may get a warning from Vista that the WM2003 service has stopped working. Do not worry, it will not affect your flash.
Vista Ultimate
Using vista ultimate I had to do the driver update which is really a painless process. After that it works perfect.
update driver
Just how do you update your driver.
Thanks

I followed this method.
i think with the latest wmdc you dont need to do that update driver thing. dont take my word for it though.
The driver hassle is 'old news' and no longer necessary with the latest wmdc. Just runs the ruu 'out of the box' nowadays.

Office Mobile 6/6.1 issue.

I got an issues with the whole mobile office suite. I had office mobile 6.1 installed from Microsoft site for my windows 6 pro device, and all was working well. However, now nothing is working. Excel gives me a pxl error, word says it can't open a file, or even create a new file. Okay so i thought I would reinstall it and see what happens, but it won't let me saying I have a newer version installed or something. So uninstall it same issue with the installer, not to mention the same issue with the whole office suite. So what can I do? Btw my device never came with one note nor did it get installed with office 6.1. Thank you.
Anyone please?
What I would try, if I had this problem would be uninstall again, then use a file manager to search and totally remove program files and folders related to office, then search the registry with a registry tool and remove all signs of Office, then install it again. The registry bit can be tricky if you don't know what you are doing but I would try anyway!
Yeah I would do that but it seems like my computer won't let me use the MSI file to install the 6.1 update.

Total Newbie Question: Cannot Copy Files to HTC Love

Hello All,
I recently bought my first smartphone here in Beijing. It's a dopod D805; I hope to upload media to it from my Vista-loaded PC.
The problem is Vista doesn't seem to recognize the device. I downloaded Windows Mobile Center (sorry if I've got the name wrong) but it doesn't seem to do anything. The CD that came with the device doesn't work (it keeps telling me to install Flash 8.0, which seems to imply the software on the disc was designed for pre-Vista systems).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update:
The phone seems simply not to work on Vista. I am now dual-booting XP alongside Vista, and have had much more success using XP and Activesync.
A new newbie question:
I cannot copy files (music, PDFs) from my PC's HDD to the phone's drive. Each time I try I am told there is not enough free space on the drive. This is absurd, as there is nothing on the drive other than what came on it, and the files I'm trying to copy are quite small. What gives?

Welcome to the forum
Have a look in the Wiki here:

Hope it helps,
Thanks for the response.
I checked that page before posting, but it doesn't seem to have much beyond the specs for my model.
All I want to do is install Pleco, and upload some MP3s/PDFs. When I plug the device in, I get the "bing bong" sound, but no new HD appears in My Computer. Since I'm running Vista, I can't use the bundled Activesync software.
Help?
i dont know if this will help but i cant sync my phone with xp unless i set my firewall to allow all.
if you go to my computer and look at your drives, does it not show you phone there as F: or whatever?
Right, it doesn't show a new drive. Note that I'm running Vista, not XP. I'm in the process of getting a dual-boot setup going, but I'm not there yet. Very frustrating.

Runtime Blues

System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3BE235DF1C8D2AD3', or one of its dependencies, was not found.
This error is plaguing my PDA. I have an HP iPAQ 111 Clasic with .net compact framework 3.5, 2.0, and (on my installed programs roster) one called simply '.NET CF'. also installed is VB Runtime For PPC.
I have been using Comic Reader mobile for some time. One day, one of my runtime components decided to 'uninstall' itself. Many programs wouldnt run. i reinstalled the afore mentioned program environments. All the programs dependant on .NET worked fine again exept for Comic Reader Mobile. I wrote it off as a minor irritation. Since then i installed Scilors Drivers licence Trainer. After instalation, SciLors displayed the same error. THis is a great irritation to me. I want my PDA running properly without Hard Reseting it. Does anyone have any sugestions/Fixes?
Thanks in advance

it's complaining about not finding
sql server compact
if you didn't install that it can't use sdf databases
which it seems the program use
Now for the newb questons. Where do i get SQL server compact? How do i install it? Is it a normal .cab/.exe install or do i have to extract data and place it myself? Im glad that this makes sence to someone, but what EXACTLY is the resolution?
pretty sure when you download it at ms it's msi but it could be exe if i'm wrong
in both cases it's installed by running the msi or exe on the pc while the pda is connected
then it installs
For the life of me, i cant find the installer on MS website. Can you direct/Link me?
http://www.google.dk/search?source=...oogle-søgning&meta=lr=&aq=6&oq=sql+server+com
Thanks for your help. Its working fine now. I also found out that Scilors is in German.... oh well.

WMDC not recognizing Sprint TouchPro 2

SOLVED: I uninstalled it in the computer's Device Manager, removed the device, reinstalled it, scanned for hardware changes, and it now works. Sorry for the bother to all of you. This might be helpful to the 'simpler' website members [Like ME! ] so I am leaving it here.
I have a Sprint TouchPro 2 with OEM 6.1 os. I have two laptops. Both are running Windows 7. One version is 'professional' the other is 'ultimate'. Both are 32 bit systems. Both have synchronized with this phone as recently as 2 weeks ago with no problems.
My phone syncronizes fine on the Windows 7 Professional computer through WMDC. HOWEVER, I then plug it into my Windows 7 Ultimate computer and WMDC can't find the device. It searches forever and then says [in red] ERROR where it said 'Searching' or 'Connected' before. I have run all the same updates on the computers from Microsoft. the only difference in software I can think of is that I used the Ultimate computer to install the .NET 3.5 compact program onto the phone, and now it doesn't work.
I'll try to remove the .NET from the Windows 7 Ultimate computer, but do I need it installed on THIS computer to keep it installed on my phone?
Can anyone think of any other possible problems?
I don't think it's the phone, as it works on the Professional computer, just not on the Ultimate one. The settings are the same [all checked and allowing connections in bluetooth in both: the settings are all the same].
I just can't get the Ultimate to recognize that the phone is plugged in.
UPDATE:
When I checked in the device manager, it stated that: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
Does anyone have any suggestions on where specifically to look? Thanks!
same problem here.
I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit and WMDC 6.1.6965.0
