Any feedback yet on Eten M600 - General Questions and Answers

From all the specs I read, it looks like a great piece of equipment:
- quad-band (useful for me)
- 802.11 b/g (at last!!!). Wonder if WPA/WPA2 is supported, and PSK and/or 802.1x
-full-size SDIO
- Size looks to be between Magician and Himalaya (good enough for me!)
- BT 1.2 supported
- WM5.0...
So if anyone has anything to say about Eten in general and on the M600 in particular, I'd be glad to hear.
Cheers,
Hal

i was looking at one of these too. This looks like one sexxy handset!

not 4 me.
crappy samsung cpu, 64mb ram and useless 802.11g(it will take tons of energy if used)...
Qtek 2020i still the best.

I played with an Eten at Modaco.
Nice device, but fairly plasticy, unlike the aluminium sheathed godliness of HTC's stuff.
Nice to have the competition though. However, If i was going for a non HTC, I'd wait for the Atom = perkier.

Hal,
Do you know where this product can be purchased with a new abbonement in France?
mogwai

As an owner of imate JAM and after reading all that about the warranty on blue angel and stuff I am going forward and I ll be ordering an ETEN M600 this monday morning!
At least it has full size SD and it supports SDIO!!!!
As for the quality mentioned above nothing can be worse than the firming on JAM. Have you seen the battery cover of the JAM???? How many of you have a jam that its colour didn't came off? Mine is becoming grey after the silver has gone in the back!
Anyway as for the samsung processor just think that K-JAM has the 200MHz version of it while M600 has the 400MHz one and I ve seen some benchmarks on the net showing clearly that tha 400MHz Samsung is faster in many tests than the Intel 416MHz located inside my JAM. At least msmobiles in their recent review say that skype works flawless something I never managed to see on my JAM or my friend's PDA2k.
So I will make a small review as soon as I lay my hands on it sometime after 5th of December.
And admins please create an area for ETEN users too.

I've seen the E-ten m500 (300 MHz Samsung CPU) in action and must say that I was really impressed.
Scrolling of navigation cards (Navigon Mobile Navigator 5.1) almost in real-time.
You'll need at least 416/520 MHz Intel CPU to achieve same results.
Don't know about battery life though.
Sascha

Sabo M500 has exactly the same processor with M600 and its clocked at 400MHz. I also saw an M500 and it was really fast and smoother than my JAM. Let me get my hands on M600 and I will let you all know how good it is!

Too bad there is no keyboard!!

The missing keyboard is one of the advantages of my M600 for me!

M600 in FR and lack of keyboard
Ok, I confess, I couldn't hold it anymore: I bought a K-Jam WWE while in Dubai last week.
First impression: not slower than BA/HIMA running WM5 (I have both - BA has dead screen now...).
It is the right size for me.
I tend to hate the keyboards, having been on Palm since 1995... The BA keyboard was laughable! But the on on K-Jam is real cool.
Keep feedback on M600 pouring please, I still find it's a nice piece of equipment!
My 2c,
Hal.

M500 has a 400mhz cpu

I had (still have, in fact) a Magician (JAM) till about 3 days back when after careful comparison of the various alternatives available (I wanted a WiFi pocket pc phone that was stable and fast) I bought the Eten M600.
Compared to my friends K-JAMs and JAMINs this one is really stable and fast. I can skype away happily on the M600 while my friends struggle to start up skype on their JAMINs. I make calls on Skype while they listen to garbage trying to make one.
Eten rocks, and at a price that $150 cheaper (including a free 1GB SD Card) than the JAMIN its too good a deal to ignore. @ HTC - competition has arrived, and in style!

tatsdiy.com got a TV OUT demo on its site
At last!
Official launch date is May 15.
I see this unit as being the long awaited upgrade to my XDA2, the dimensions are very similar but it is lightyears ahead in all specs and blows away the competition. This is what htc should have been working on instead of moving its product line towards a smartphone design.
O2 asia said they would offer a free upgrade to WM6 once they have tested it.
The USB OTG will be a huge benefit, meaning this PPC will no longer be tied to synchronization with a PC - you can use it with USB flash drives, printers, cameras etc.
IMHO, this is the best all round package you can currently buy and well worth importing it if you want a XDA2 replacement. The presentation is a bit disappointing though, pretty bland but everything else is spot on.

hmm, IMHO, that looks like cheap launch price as compared to what HTC universal debuted there
It's the only PDA I know with an embedded dedicated graphics card. Here are the specs (at the store):
Memory: 128MB RAM (DUDE!), 2112MB ROM
Processor: 520mhz PXA270 (um.)
Band: Triband GSM, 3.5G
Connectivity: BT2.0, Wifi B/G, Consumer-level IR(DA)
Graphics: Nvidia GoForce 5500 (not to be confused with the GeForce Go used in Laptops, but this will help A LOT.)
Features:
USB (OTG!)
TV-Out
SRS-Audio
microSD slot (why not a standard SD? <_<)
And that's that. My only complaint is that ve haff no FM Radio - I'm not too hot about GPS yet - but methinks an iTech Clip should solve that... >_>
Anyone wants to donate $1500? -.-

<_< ok, I just went back to the store. Mentioned nowhere on the brochure or flyer at all. It's something that's marketable so I don't see why it won't be mentioned unless it's not there.
I think its rediculous that they release it without WM6. I am sure they will offer an upgrade path though. Sweet phone...
I was getting ready to get it when I noticed there is no EGPRS
Living in GSM 3G deprived NA and being quite ok with EGPRS (but not GPRS) speeds I can live with that, but as far as I can tell there is no EGPRS on this one
I know sometimes manufacturers will just say GPRS and it includes both EDGE and GPRS but I have a feeling that this is not the case with the Flame?
AFAIK EGPRS is a SW thing only, so would a hack be thinkable?
Is this not an HTC made device or?

I didn't, I mentioned "SRS Sound", and I refuse to quote stereo speaker and speakerphone since those are pretty much part and parcel of PPCs since 2002. As for FM Radio, yeah, my bad. I've since confirmed that it has an FM radio, but it's just not mentioned in the fliers. Rock on <_<

Dopod U100 is such a large and akward device though, I've had an O2 and iMate branded one but don't want one again...
Have been using it for nearly a week. Here's my impression:
- It's big, but not too big for shirt and jeans pocket (without any case)
- Sturdy made - much much better than the XDA trion, which is my last machine.
- Quite responsive, above average, but see battery
- Not many bundled software - no backup, UI tweak, launcher etc. and I don't like the task manager (O2 menu); it does have a better alarm and a basic wireless manager though
- Not enough buttons! (2 side buttons on the left; +/- button and camera button on the right; L/R softkeys + start and ok buttons + Call/Cancel buttons in the front) That's it. No jog dial, no calendar / contact buttons, no hold button
- Auto-focus camera with led. One word - SWEET
- 128mb RAM and 2 gig rom ... finally, this people have some sense
- Battery life, now this can be a problem. The PXA family is not known for its battery saving ability (I think the samsung 400 is better), and with a huge screen and ram to boot, I'm sure if you use the performance setting (520 mhz) and use it a lot (gaming, wireless), it won't last for even a day. It is highly recommended that you use programmes like XCPU scalar to scale the the speed to 208 when the machine is idle, and max it at 416 (which is enough for most programmes). Then the battery life will be acceptable.
- Bluetooth, crap. Not entirely O2's fault, but how come after so many years MS(uxK) still can't get it right!? I used to own the XDAIIs and the broadcom stack is much better. I tried iTech and Jarba - the call part is ok but the music part is still not done right. Let's hope with the WM6 upgrade things will be better.

HTC KAISER vs O2 Zinc

Im going to upgrade from my MDA and was wondering what the main differences are between the KAISER and the ZINC.
So far i noticed the Kaiser has a 3mp camera compared to Zinc's 2mp.
It also appears that the ZINC has a faster processor?
Has anyone ever used both and noticed a difference in speed between the two??
Does anyone know if one is noticably smaller than the other??
I like the way the Kaiser looks over the ZINC although ive never seen the ZINC in person. I like the KAISER for its built in gps and 3mp camera. However the only reason im considering the ZINC over the KAISER is because it has a faster processor according to its specs.
Are there any other advantages to getting the ZINC over the KAISER?
Any opinions on what phone you would prefer and why would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
I think the Xscale on the Zinc actually has 520 MHz for everything, while the Qualcomm 400MHz of the Kaiser actually has separate "mini-cores" for every process, yielding to faster Kaiser. Hardware aside, my Zinc felt only slightly faster than my old 838pro, though my 838pro was slightly more stable. the kaiser beats the zinc in stability and also speed, imo.
hmm alrite cool thanks for your response!! i think im definately going to go with the kaiser than.. unless anyone else has any other opinions about why i might not want to..

Htc Touch Cruise Unavailable-uncertainty About The Gps Chip

Hi
I was also waiting since 2-3 weeks the new HTC TC, I was intersested because it had everything I wanted (except a SIRF Star III chipset).
I'm asking myself now if I will not buy instead the new ETEN Glofiish X 800 who except a 2MPixels camera (in place of a 3 MPixel for the HTC TC) has not only a better GPS receiver (Sirf starIII) but also a much better screen (VGA 640x480 in place of QVGA 320X240) , a faster processor 500 MHz for the Eten vs 400 MHZ for the HTC and a better battery 1530 mAh vs 1350 mAh for the HTC.
And it seems that the ETEN will also be cheaper than the Touch Cruise....
What do you think ? ETEN GLOFIISH X800 or HTC TC ..? Wait or not wait ?
Christian
Belgium
With respect to SIRF Star III, if you use Tomtom it doesn't support the additional capabilities of the chip (I contacted Tomtom for this), besides, the HTC Cruise got the fix much faster then with my MIO A201 wich has a SIRF Star III chipset. I compared these two PDA's to figure out the diferences with respect to navigation using Tomtom.
Although the X500 has a higher clock processor, it is actually much slower than the Kaiser/Polaris because it doesn't have a dedicated gfx processor - so all gfx processing (and don't forget its 640x480) has to be done by the main CPU which makes even simple things like scrolling very slow.

Kaiser and Polaris DO have a GFX processor but they DON'T have drivers for it at the moment....
So they won't be any faster until we can get those drivers.
Compared to my SIRF Star III gps receiver the Cruise is just as good. Get's a faster fix and has just as many satelites. No major differences there, so there is nothing for you to worry in that department.
The X800 is a nice device as well. It's also VGA which could be something you like where the cruise is qvga.
But! from what I've read it feels kinda slow. Mainly because of the VGA resolution and that there is only 64mb RAM in the device. There where the cruise has 128mb ram.
Also for the future the gfx processing might be something to consider. There where the Cruise could get support for it at some point the X800 will never get that. Take into consideration that it's VGA instead of qvga ánd only has 64mb RAM I think the Cruise is the better choice here.
At least that was my conclusion when I was thinking about getting the X800 or the Cruise. In the end I was 100% sure to get the Cruise and so far it hasn't let me down as well. I'm quite happy with it, only hoping on some better video driver support.

After long struggle with myself I decided not to buy any Eten (considered X500+, X800 and M800) due to small amount of available memory.
So I wanted iMate Ultimate 9502, but it seems not available in Europe.
Therefore, since I need GPS, HTC TC, even if it's QVGA... TyTN II is simply too heavy... and I'm not sure I need keyboard.

Don't be confused (or to confuse others) about video drivers and gfx drivers.
Kaiser and Polaris don't have proper video drivers (DirectX), but the dedicated gfx processor does function correctly for 2D acceleration.
And the X800 is very slow.

SLOW¡¡¡????
X800 IS THE SLOWEST PDA I HAVE USED, YOU MUST DO A SOFR RESET EACH 2 HOURS TO USE IT NORMALLY...

Can you help me? I 'm not decided !!!

I don't know what should I buy... htc cruise or asus p750... I know specifications but I don't know what is better quality
does anyone even have a p750 how can we know the quality
a bit smaller screen
phone keyboard
more classic phone look
are how it differs from polaris
Get the Asus if:
You need a practical phone for everyday use.
We do not know how good it is as is not out just yet, but the 520MHz processor sounds really good, shame about the 2mp camera
Get Touch Cruise if:
You love gadgets and like to fiddle and experiment on them.
From me, a PPC user, I would say that TC has not contestant at the moment. I might get a Eten V900 when it comes out in April but not because is better than TC, but because I love PPCs
Good luck
htc cruise vs asus p750
Thank you for your answers, but in my country I can buy already this device. I know that a screen is small and asus has less RAM than TC, but asus has stronger processor, at last, which of them is faster? The TC is PPC and why Asus isn't?

Don't keep staring at CPU specs, don't forget that Eten Glofiish X800 also has more CPU than Touch Cruise, but that the X800 is A LOT slower.
I know, but on the other forums I red that:
Asus P750
CPU index 2143.53
File system index 348.88
Graphics index 4173.88
ActiveSync index 4214.58
Spb Benchmark index 781.7
Htc cruise
CPU index 1513.45
File system index 149.84
Graphics index 3490.21
ActiveSync index 4902.05
Spb Benchmark index 382.37
so,is it probable that the memory RAM hasn't influence?
...and battery is better and I saw a film at Youtube that the GPS is very slow at the TC
of course.... Eten glofiish x800 is very shame, maybe V900...

which PDA you suggest? [phone edition]

my minimum requirement:
-attractive in look
-vga [so that i can read pdf files in good quality]
-wifi & bluetooth
-good multimedia [atleast better then nokia n 70 ]
-atleast 2MP camara and unlimited video recording capacity
-no ram problems or memory full problems like sucking nokia s60 phones
-basic applications should be available [compatible] for that pda
- Pocket Office(Word, Excel, Outlook, PDF viewer)
- Java MIDP 2.0
-good speed [atleast better then nokia s60]
-price around 14-18000INR [350-450USD]
-4gb memory card should be available

HTC does not have many VGA offerings. but its not the end of the world with qvga.
I started a thread recently for my self that could answer some of your questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1970736
maybe flame
maybe sonyE's upcomming x1
I've been looking hard to find a device to upgrade my Trinity to a VGA device and the sad thing is there really isn't anything decent out there right now and hardly anything worthwile coming out, at least from what's been announced.
HTC, forget it they don't have anything in a small form factor that's VGA. Too bad, the Touch Cruise would have been absolutely perfect if it had a VGA. The only thing that could have made that better was if it had a Capacitive VGA touch screen.
E-Ten has some VGA devices but they only have 64 Megs of ram and it's poorly used, you end up with an average of about 12 Megs running which can make it painful to use. Not to mention its quirks like not being able to power off the device like HTC devices by holding the Power Button down, lots of little things like that.
Imate Ultimate Series, all except the 8502 are VGA but most are lacking in GPS if that's a feature you are looking for and they are bigger than most devices if size matters. Not to mention Imate seems to be in trouble, their current rom is very buggy, support seems limited and the battery life is terrible.
O2 Flame as mentioned by Rudegar is a posibility but I believe it's TriBand, that's a problem for me as I'm in North America but if you don't need the extra band, it's worth considering.
The Xperia also mentioned by Rudegar pretty much has everything and goes behind VGA with an 800x400 resolution but it's not available yet. Personally I'm not a big fan of slide out querty keyboards, I find them to big and combersome to use with two thumbs but given the deminsions are about the same as the O2 Flame, I'd choose this over the Flame if I couldn't find anything smaller.
The Gigabyte GSmart MS808 has potential, don't know the diminsions but the current specs seems to indicate it has everything you are looking for. Haven't had any experience with Gigabyte but people seem to like them so it's worth taking a look at. Again, it's not available until later this year though.
Bottom line, nothing out there that's really worth it right now in the VGA market. If you can wait I'd hold off until later this year, I think we'll be seeing a lot of new devices coming out with VGA, even HTC should be moving towards VGA as their leaked new Touch Flow (Manilla) seems to indicate.
Personally I've been seriously considering jumping Windows Mobile and moving over to an Iphone for a while. Now that they are building in ActiveSync support with push email into the next firmware. I'd have to get used to a lot of limitations, no camera, gps, basic functionality ect. that I don't have know but the capactive touch screen!!! I really wish there was a Windows Mobile device out there that used this technology. Once you use it, it makes it really hard to go back to a resitive touch device almost unbearable!
I'd really wish there was a VGA Windows Mobile device that had it all for me the absolute minimum of any device should be
Small Slim Form Factor
Good Battery Life
TriBand HSDPA/HSUPA
Quadband GSM
400 Mhz Proc.
VGA Display
256 Megs Rom
128 Megs Ram
GPS
3Mp Camera/VGA Camera (Video Calls)
Bluetooth
Make that screen Capacitive and it would be the best device out there!
" Personally I'm not a big fan of slide out querty keyboards, I find them to big and combersome to use with two thumbs but given the deminsions are about the same as the "
nor am i a fan of keyboards but other then that which one could just not use the x1 looks pretty sweet so far
a non VGA device thats interesting is the new
MWg Atom V.
http://www.expansys.ca/d.aspx?i=164854
its an all-in-one with an attractive design.
draw backs are:
qvga
64 ram
minimalistic 6 buttons- 2 for calling
and maybe price.
--
Aside recent rumors that SE Xperia will be on At&T so that will give us in NA the option of plenty unlocked X1's in early 2009.
ASUS is also bringing exciting new devices that that are the size of an IPhone with a 2.8" screen
