Checkpoint Speed Camera detailed voice warnings - General Topics

Hi all,
I have uploaded some detailed UK female voices for configuring Checkpoint Speed Camera Warning Software.
For example, a voice setup warning in checkpint.
1st Warning, 'Caution Mobile camera ahead in 30 seconds'.
2nd warning, (20secs) 'The speed limit is 30 mph'.
3rd warning, 'Warning Mobile camera ahead in 10 seconds'
You can download Checkpoint 5.02 from http://poiplace.oabsoftware.nl/ (Only works with TomTom Navigator 5.1)
My Voices are at ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/SpeedCamera

ROM Update for Globalsat BT-338 to ROM 3.1.1

ROM Update for Globalsat BT-338 to ROM 3.1.1 (Bluetooth on PC required to update your BT-338 Sirf III Bluetooth GPS)
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Globalsat BT-338 ROM Update to 3.1.1/
What the upgrade fixes
* Upgrade your receiver to allow the SiRF III chipset to be WAAS/EGNOS capable and activated via the “GPSinfo or SiRF DEMO” utility software after upgrade.
* Improves acquisition and also improves bit sync capability and recovery mode. (This error can cause fix problems from reacquisition after a blockage from receiving data also know as the ‘jet-lag” symptom).
* Improves cold start frequency search range problem, where frequency was not searched properly after 30 seconds.
* Improves potential cold start visible list problem, which could affect performance if all satellites are below 32 db-Hz
* Corrects Message “41” datum field.
* Corrects date stamp not updating.
* Limits the 50 BPS thresholds to 27 to avoid undetected parity errors, which can give position errors.
THIS FIRMWARE UPGRADE WILL NOT:
Change the “Auto Shut-Off” to activate after 10 min if no Bluetooth connection is present to conserve battery life.

A cautionary tale :O
I bought one of these recently and despite the dealers assurances that it had the 3.1.1 firmare on, it didn't.
So I decided to do it myself with the aid of this firmware. I've done plenty of flash upgrades and wasn't bothered about all the usual cautionary tales. about 55 blocks into the initial erase procedure the software reported a connection error...............and that was it
Interestingly enough the bluetooth still functions and I can connect but there is no data being produced and the green GPS light doesn't come on at all. I've tried reflashing but I just get a communication error.
So it's back to the dealer as a dead unit Just wish he'd supplied me with what he promised to to start with. The depressing thing is I'll have to wait for them to check it's faulty and when they replace it I'll probably have to return the next unit because it won't have the 3.1.1 firmware either and I can't risk killing another unit.
Tom
Hi, it seems there are different versions of this firmware, i currently have the update for "GSW3.1.1LowV 3.1.00.07-C23B1.00"
Does anyone know, where i can get the "GSW3.1.1TO_3.1.00.07-C23P1.00" firmware?
Note the LowV/TO and B/P in the firmware names.
The one i have is worser than the 3.0.2
Note: I can't download the file using the link above (I've been time travelling )

i wonder if there is a way to install this on a hermes,i know am well aware of the fact that it can brick the unit but what the heck is it possible?
did anyone notice this makes reference to an 8915 model?!? its been reported that att was going to have the 8900 (no camera) and 8925 (with front and back cam) .... but i wonder if they are stupid enough to market a 3rd model with only the back cam (well thats my guess anyway, would fit in their naming scheme)
you can,t brick your hermes because it wont let you install it

I'm sure you'll find elements of this rom appearing in a suitable ROM once the chefs have had a chance to work with it.

according to this article ... Kaiser do comes with 3 different model specs
http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9750809-1.html
Yes - 3 models
HTC Kaiser 100 - no camera
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=807
HTC Kaiser 110 - 2.8M camera on rear
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=808
HTC Kaiser 120 - both 2.8M camera on rear and 300K video calling camera on front
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=733
looks and feels pretty much the same as the previous version. Some quick notes:
- Plain AT&T splash screen (removed the words "test only, not for sale") suggests we're getting close to the final version. The animated 3G splash has audio this time...
- looks like same software package as previous version (e.g. Ms PacMan trial, OZ IM etc. cingular pre_midlets is still there too (had assumed the pre_ meant pre-release).
- Device Name default (in About control panel) reports 8900 this time (could have sworn it was 8925 last time). Model no (in Device info control panel) is just "Hermes".
- The annoying backlight problem (where it goes dim every 10 seconds and reverts settings in the backlight control panel) seems to be gone!
More notes later, after some usage.
Nice...!
Thanks for Share...!
After 1 day of usage, some interesting issues:
* created program shortcuts from TaskMgr, and the program links (in Start Menu) lose their icons after soft reset. Also the Messenger program link has no icon, and the link itself is broken (application cannot be found)
* sound through headphones does not work! This is a major problem. Sound plays fine through speakers, but as soon as headphones are plugged in nothing from the headset. Of course this worked in the last version.
I am suspecting a bad interaction with the few apps I installed (HTC Home plugin and HTC Audio Manager from HTC ROM) so I'm rerunning the imaging process. If not, will step back to the previous release as no sound thru headphones is a no-op (would be a very boring flight home for me without music).
No Audio Thru Headphones
reinstalled the ROM and verified that sound does not come thru any headset. I had to reinstall an older ROM to get headphones working. Bummer as the new ROM looked more polished. I especially liked the way that backlight dimming worked.
Hope AT&T gets it right soon, else I'll have to try the HTC RTM ROM.

Don't fly with Jet2.com as they made me switch off my Wizard when I was listening to mp3s via headphones even though it was in flight mode. The annoying thing was that she continued to allow 2 kids , 3 rows apart,to play on their Nintendo DS which I know were linked up wirelessly.
if you guys don,t mind me asking
can you please post how you got your hands on a kaiser
and if you happen to have an extra you want to sell please pm me i would be very much nterested in trying one out
It should be released in 3 weeks. If you can't wait, try eBay. There's one for sale there now.
OMG Your right!
I've been using this ROM for a week now and hadn't tried the headset. How do you jack that up? I wonder how long it will be for a release rom to fix it because I like the new rom, but goota have the headset jack
Buy the way where do you get the HTC RTM ROm? Thanks
must be nice to mess with one of these units and be a prick and not share where you got it from
byetheway IF THE SHOE FITS WEAR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow nice post! Im not sure why you are so upset. Your question was answered by Mlekas, we gotem on ebay, at least thats where I got mine. I think theres one on there now. Their pretty pricey though.
can someone try to rip OZ im client from this rom and put it in a cab so we can try to install a more WM6 friendly version of this software on an upgraded 8525

Listening Police Radio/Fire dep. with HTC phones in Germany

In germany the police sends there radio on 85-88 mhz.
after changing band to japan in the radio app, or in the
registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\FMRadio\FMPlayer] "Band"=dword:00000001
it is possible to hear the fire departements and the police.
=============================================
but when the police isn`t sending, a very loud noise is hearable.
now my wish or idea.
a coder can program a little tool,
-that will first automaticly switch the registrykey to japanband.
(and after closing program, switch back to german music radio band 88-108),
-that will get the signal level (rx strenght),
-that will automaticly enable touch scroll wheel. "SupportWheel"=dword:00000001
is the signal level under an optional value, the sound will muted or reduced to 10%.
the RX signal level can get on different ways. by talking with radio application functions.
(i dont have any knowledge about microsofts support for radio app developement.)
by reading the applications ram and find the adress who the radio app stores this info in.
or by hacking the radio app (exe), and hook the signal meter application to the own one, by
simply replace MOVE command (or anything else) with JSR to own programm code, first command is the replaced,
so the command will regulary proceed, stack variables, then use the now avalaible stolen value to
the SQUELCH part of the own SQUELCH programsequence, next the SQUELCH APP will compare the value with user
defined treshold. in case of this it will switch or fast softfade to
user defined min and max volume level.unstack.then RTS return from subroutine to main programm.
this is not the best way.
the better way is, to win coders, they are interested in hearing the police by there own
here some ideas for a complete own policescan software
funktions for a nice police scan tool:
- ~5 numeric input fields for favourite frequenzies, and quick select button.
- automatic band switch to japan band (reg key value changing)
2 volume sliders. (slider one) output volme standart, (slider2) for squelch active volume(quiet).
- squelch, automatic noise reduction on signallevel lost (slider2).
- autoscan.(frequncies/favorites) this will scan/switch the valued favourite channels, as fast as possible.
so we have our ears into ~5? channels a second
autoscan, restart scan delay. scan after (0,1-5 sek) no signal (slider 3)
record function (button), squelch controlled. no signal, no record. (but record is illegal)
(no one can hear 24h a day and the most time it is nothing to hear. so you can hear
it like pod-cast, when ever you want but dont show it to others. thats illegal )
an optical (analog/digital/numeric) signal levelmeter, to find the best receiving position.
user optional parameters for frequency scan function:
scan step, 0.01 mhz, 0.05 mhz, 0.1 mhz, user defined
start frequency, end frequency
time to stay/hear on each frequency. (as fast as possible but stop at signal level $X(squelch level),10 ms,50ms,100ms,500ms,1000ms)
and it would be good to set the hardware ZF filter from fm-wide to fm-narrow. but i dont know
if this is possible by commands or hacks. fm-narrow filter is more radio sensitive.
the police will send in narrow band and the music radio will send fm-wide band.
(but narrow and wide filters normaly are electronic circuits.but today the total integrety of
microdevices, will have nice side effects. the ultra compact thinfilm circuit designs offering a lot of hidden
funktions, to use this in other products without redesigning circuit layouts of little helpers, like radio receiver.
good example is the gps function upgrade to a few htc devices, only by software.
and when the hardware design of the fm-radio is good enogh, they can use this little part of elektronik in a lot
of new generations of new devices.so they can use the same driver at all time for maximum compatibility.
good for faster developing the more interesting things. so they plan from the beginning a
radio module with maximum capabillitys. but they use it not at all.
for example, the rds hardware capabilitys. how knows, next time a tool or a radio update will come,
that will read tmc data and broadcast this over a virtual comport to tomtom oder igo.
this can be done by software only. because the fm-radio module is planned in the past to do this in wiiide future)
to set it hardware based to narrow, will increase the sensitivity and clearity, dramaticly
but i can imagine, that a software filter, a low pass filter could help to increase the
subjective hear feeling. but this can be done theoreticly with the HTC audioverbesserung/equalizer.
but only theoreticly. the audio signal from the standart radio application is not mapped
over the HTC audioverbesserung tool. this will have no function.
Switchable button low pass filter on/off
and last, but not least,.... ))) an shout cast audioserver, to share what you hear
and the things i forgot
BEST REGARDS,
DOMin8or aka DERd!rk
`it is possible to hear the fire departements and the police`
but, you can`t understand the dialogs(transmissions),
NFM(Police ect.) / WFM(Radio),
there is no way with the Diamond or other Mobile to listen it clearly, needs Hardwarefilters....
i have this toy to listen it, see pic....
thx
mfg
thats not right. If you set the right Frequency in the registry ( @ fm-radio ) you hear the speech clearly - BUT to quiet.
We need a Programm that cut off the loud noise, when there is nobody talking,
and make loud the rest.
And for me, now as Android App
they transmit using normal analogue unscrambled ?
they moved away from that here many years ago
Yes
Actually it is analouge. The first "bigger" city with digital police radio is Hamburg.
At the moment it´s at the beginning to switch from analouge to digital. But it will take 2,3,4 or 5 years more to finish in complete Germany
Enough time to programm a "squelch tool". --> for android (this is the future)
... and I have a HTC Desire

New Version TomTom Navigator supports Non Touch Screen

The newest version of TomTom Navigator supports non touch screen devices.
I stumbled in this information by accident and thought it would be usefull over here.
I've tested it on a HTC StarTrek (qtek 8500 etc) with a WM 6.1 standard ROM and it works like a charm with the newest maps.
No more FakeCursor needed, you can scroll and use numeric keypad
Version is: 7.915.9196.
Because of slightly warez related.....google is our best friend.
How I combined 7.450 and 7.915 to get it working on my SAMSUNG JACK i637
Hey guys, I bought a Samsung JACK (637) a couple of months ago and really wanted to install a GPS software to use with my Bluetooth GPS receiver. So I spent a lot of time searching and researching my options. Since I used to use TomTom on my iPaq 2495, I decided to go with that.
I found that I had to spend MORE time on figuring out the RIGHT version of Tomtom Navigator and the combined MAP than I anticipated.
TO CUT TO THE CHASE, after experimenting a few version (6.xxxx, 7.450.xxxx, 7.910.xxxx, and 7.915.xxxx) I realized that the 7.450.9028 version works best but NOT without the following FLAWS:
7.915.9196 - Scrolling works for the menu items but NOT for useful features such as searching for address, and POIs, and even setting up the COM PORT for the GPS.
TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, I combined two versions: the 7.450 and 7.915. Here's HOW:
The problem with 7.450.9028, at least for me, was that:
Searching for POI using the 'ANY CATEGORY' option yields 'NO POI FOUND' all the time.
It couldn't search through the POI database using KEYWORDS. The version of map I tried is 720 and it sure isn't the problem.
So, I made my OWN version:
1) Install 7.450.9028 on your PDA/SMARTPHONE
2) Copy the Navigator directory from /Program Files/ on your device to your Hard Drive.
3) Remove TOMTOM from your device.
4) Install 7.915.9196 on your device.
5) Replace all files except "TomTom Navigator.exe" in Navigator directory of the new installation with those in the Navigator directory indicated in step 2).
6) DONE
I now have a version of Tomtom with the 7.915 main program file and the 7.450 system files.
Now I can search POIs by keyword AND scroll with my UP and DOWN buttons.
These are instructions I think might be useful for at least some people. But I leave you to buy your own copies of the program and MAP so don't ask me for them.
I haven't tested with the more recent 840.2563 maps but I foresee for this to work with it, too.
That's interesting - also stumbled over the sudden "smartphone mode" in the latest version when playing with KS20 and my old Vox back and forth. I noticed though, that the menus in the "smartphone mode" are different from the normal "touchscreen mode".
Especially:
- no (direct) option to delete a route (plan a new route and abort when it starts to calculate immediately instead)
- useless menu to "manage phones"
It looks as if TT is in some mode intended for onboard car device.
What happens if you use the "manage Phones" menu (2.4)?
Your merged TT Versions should relate to the data.chk file (the other big file aside the TT.exe) - so maybe there is easier way to get it replaced. Merging data.chk and TomTom...exe with different versions did not work for me though, but you brought back the attention that it actually works as well (with minor quirks).
Just re-checked if everything works allright with scrolling on the VOX and Tornado - and it does (my Tornado is on WM6 cooked ROM, so not WM5) and the VOX is with Stock ROM 6.0 - so no problems with scrolling here.
The 7.915 had other side-effects, if I remember right like disconnecting BT-GPS in background, so you can't use it as "voice only". Will have to actually use it in real life to see if it works as reliable as the TT5.2 does (depite the maps are getting really outdated...)

I'm strictly using the PPC version of TT so there is no such option as “smartphone mode".
The hybrid 7.915 is pretty stable right now except for the "Start-up Preferences" that would always lead to a crash with "Not enough memory" error.
I also found that if you selected your STATE when inputting your HOME LOCATION during initial setup, TT will remain locked to that state (i.e.: only addresses in your specified state will be indexed during searches). The solution I applied was to simply do a "RESET FACTORY SETTINGS" (under Preferences) and select USA when selecting a HOME LOCATION.
It's frustrating to see that TT has yet to come out with a version that is compatible with all smart phones. I guess we shouldn't put all the blame on TT when manufacturers constantly come out with new ways to confuse us with unique button mapping schemes.
I didn't have problems with bluetooth. I think you're talking about automatic disconnections caused by the time-out setting in the phone. On my Samsung JACK, I basically set my phone to never dim the screen nor go back to home screen unless I manually LOCK the keypad. I can even use my BT headset and BT GPS receiver simultaneously connected to the phone. Now, the only time my GPS disconnects is when i get an incoming call. An inconvenience to say the most and hardly an annoyance. The only annoyance is that the battery would be drained if I forget to lock the keypad or if I leave an unanswered call log unattended (screen always on).
CHEERS!
What I mean is that the menus that the very same program (installed on just ONE microSD card) shows are different when I start it on my smartphones (HTC Vox/S710 or HTC Tornado) or on my PocketPC (LG KS20). You may not have noticed this as you are using it on a non-touchscreen device (aka "Smartphone") only.
I cannot do a side-by-side compare easily as the card can only be in either one or the other device...
A sure proof for this is that there is a menu "manage phones" (translated from my German version) on the second page of the main menu. On the PocketPC this is not present.
Also the item "delete route" (PPC on the 3.rd page) is not there when I start it on the smartphone.
Last, the smartphone menus show a digit (1,2,3,5,6) aside a list-like menu item while on the PPC this is a 2x3 icon layout and no digits shown.
Dropping the BT connection if sent to background does not happen on my PPC as well, but this is using a different BT-stack (Widcomm/Broadcom) while my smartphones use the Microsoft BT-stack.
Can you please tell about the menu specialties that I desribed - do you see these as well?

Are you saying that two different interfaces are supported by the same TT version?
Yep, the menu items are numbered exactly like you said.
On Main Menu - page 3, 'Delete Route' option is absent.
Also, I actually never noticed that there is in fact a Manage Phones option on Page 2 of 3. I'm not sure what this option does on my phone because all it does is bring a screen asking "Do you want to connect to "?".
I did use TT Navigator v6 on my HP iPaq hx2495 before. The installation was for touch-screen PPC but I really can't remember all the details. I could go back and have a look, though and even try to run my "hybrid" version on it through an SD adapter.
By the way, I have a 4hz Bluetooth GPS but my TT MAP is being updated at 1HZ. Is there any way to change this setting in TT? 7.450.XXXX used to update the map at 4hz. Perhaps it's not supported by 7.915.xxxx?

APP Request - Black Box Drive Data Recorder

Anyone know of, or have an opinion about a black box drive data recorder?
A video recording of the view out of your windscreen (phone in a holder), with GPS co-ordinates and speed and heading overlaid, and perhaps G readings from the accellerometer. Could be limited to say 5 or 10 minutes in length to limit file size, with the older section being overwritten by the new so you always have the last 10 minutes of your trip.
Get into a crash, you can provide your insurance company or the court, with undeniable evidence of what happened, (or if you're at fault delete the file...)
Thoughts?
Id like it aswell. Any idea?
