QVGA. Shame. Micro SD too, max RAM 1Gb.
Still want one though. I went from a JAM to an Exec for the 3G. Think I'll be heading back to the smaller form factor now, buy out my contract, get a tmobile unlimited data contract.

Looking for buying an HTC handset but which one???

Hi,
I am a previous user of an HTC Blueangel and a SPV C500 when I was in France then I moved to UK where I choose a Blackberry 8700g but I am not feeling really happy with it.
I mean the Blackberry is a great handset in term of reliability and it is doing what it is supposed to. But it is not really a flexible. In fact, I found that the software range is really narrow and expensive. Also, I am missing the use of a stylus. However, the jog dial is really great.
Since I can use the MS Push mail with my company email, I am really thinking to switch back to a Pocket PC phone.
By the past, I really liked my SPV C500 but I don't think I can go for a Smartphone now, I think it won't be practical for writing email and so on.
To summarize I would be happy to have some people point of view of which handset would be the best for the following requirements (MS Push Email, I am not playing game, I am not using a GPS, I am using a Samsung bluetooth headset, listen to some music sometimes and watch some video sometimes, WIFI, sliding keyboard would be appreciated, possibility to use Skype or other VOIP system if possible.....).
Any help is much appreciated.
Finally, I have some newbie question:
- Is anybody using his Pocket PC with T-Mobile Web n walk in UK?
- If the device is not AKU is it possible to upgrade it to have this functionality (maybe flash firmware)?
- Does web n walk allow the use of MSN on T-Mobile UK Web n walk?
- For the MS Push Mail is it enough to have a data plan (like Web n Walk)?
Sorry for the long post. But I am a bit lost.
Thank you very much for your help.
Julien
I think the new TyTn / Hermes will be perfect for you.
Sliding keyboard, AKU 3.0 with all it's goodies, WIFI G, BT 2.0 400MHZ processor and 2MP camera as a bonus (+ VGA camera for video calls).
I am not on T-MBILE but I can answer a couple of your questions:
1) All WM5 devices manufactured today come with at least AKU 2.0 newer devices come with AKU 3.0 and up. Some older devices get updates from the manufacturer but not all.
2) All you need for push mail is internet access (GPRS / UMTS / WIFI) and an Exchange server on the other side.

Oops. My mistake, somehow I remembered seeing it with the green windows screen.
Still I liked it from the brief experience I had with it.
How is it working out for you?
The T-Mobile version of the Hermes is the MDA Vario II
Just in case you didn't know...
Thank you guys for the information.
Indeed I think I will go for the Hermes. The only problem might be the budget.
What about he MDA Vario (i.e. Qtek 9100) is it good? I am a bit worried since the processor is only 200Mhz.
I will try to see if I can trade my blackberry against a Hermes or another one (with complement maybe).

It's pretty good - see for example my game reviews, where I also elaborate on the given title's playability on the Wizard.
hi julien
check ebay and see what price you can get for your old phones.better than trading in !

Get the Vario II (Not the Vario)
Vario = Wizard = 200MHz
Vario II = Hermes = 400MHz

Universal + WM6 supports HSDPA?

Hi all,
Is it possible for Universal to support HSDPA by upgrading to WM6?
I thought Universal can support HSDPA just like Hermes... My Universal was delivered just 2 weeks ago, and I'm migrating my data from Hermes to Universal just now. After setting up everything, I found this problem...
Any suggestion for this situation?? (I love big screen and useful keyboard that the reason why I changed from Hermes to Universal.)

No, it won't support it ever.
I'm afraid different hardware is required for HSPDA.
Sorry.
Psi
And I'm planning switching to Hermes!
You won't ever have HSDPA with this machine.
The question though is whether you really need HSDPA or now. Apart from using your PPC as a modem you should be on the safe side for most browsing / downloading senarios. The QVGA resolution of the Hermes makes the device a whole lot less usable for many things like web browsing, PDF / Office files (Excel at 320*240 = not fun!) and ebooks. That said the Hermes ain't half bad either of course - I just don't get HTCs policy to not include a VGA screen in such a high end (/ priced) device. Guess it will remain their secret forever...

well there would be no sense in putting a VGA display on (guessing; may be wrong) 2,8" display of Hermes.
Thanks all. I'll return to use Hermes then.
By the way, what is the option for people who need mobile phone with qwerty Keyboard, VGA screen, VM6 and HSDPA??
Another mobile? or Modify universal?!
None at the moment.
Btw, the upside of a QVGA device is the smaller size. And QVGA devices are very much usable with web browsing using Opera Mini.. Not to mention that you won't need a stylus for most QVGA devices now.
But if you do excel sheets a lot. Stick to VGA.

HTC Diamond anyone?

Anyone here going to switch to the HTC Diamond?
http://www.htc.com/europe/product.aspx?id=46638
-The way i see it, the VGA screen is a big plus.
-I'm not at all sold on HTC touch interface..it blows.
-I would miss my keyboard big time.
I probably would not do it. What about you guys?
ummmm wrong forum...and no cuz theres no hardware qwerty
eventually someone here will port the UI to the Kaiser
did it with the cube and touchflo...
learn how to spell KAISER
No memory card slot is a pain to me even though I like the tilt sensor.
I am waiting to see the 8 or 16G memory verion, so far only 4G looks like from stone age )
Ill dump my Kaiser depending on the pricing !!!
Depends on the price.
I'm so sure that one of the ROM-Gurus is gonna make the diamond-GUI available for the KAISER so I don't have to change the phone, I love my TYTN!
i am madly in love with my kaiser and i can't let it go ..

And that's the only thing I'll pull from the Diamond. I enjoy the qwerty keyboard too much to go with this phone.
not for the diamond but for the Raphel, my Kaiser goes bye bye when the Raphel comes out. Also manilla may not be portable to the kaiser (may not have enough graphical horsepower).
GSM Band
You have to look for USA version, because this phone it will not work in USA network,
check it out..
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 900/1800/1900 MHz
I'm just happy there is a poll! What happened to the SE X1? Can someone start a thread about the Diamond and X1 comparisons and add a poll on which one do you want...
O HTC Diamond
O Sony Erickson Xperia X1
I never use the keyboard.
I bought the wrong phone (My Shift already got a keyboard)
The touch cruise came a few weeks after I got my kaiser...
So, at the end of this year... I guess the Diamond is the way to go for me...
I hope there is a 8GB or 16GB version by then.
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
Put a keyboard on it , and it becomes the Sony Xperia X1.
I'd much rather get the Sony Xperia X1. Although with HTCs current situation with the Kaiser , I am not sure I would go with another HTC product.

Raphael and Diamond are the same phone just another name for it. Raphael is the branded T-Mobile name for it.

Actually it is coming to the US. Check this out

FCC documentation about HTC Touch Diamond
I personally need to have expansion memory and i am overly surprised HTC did not include that with their latest innovation. The phone looks nice but without a sliding keyboard for text messaging, or writing word and excel documents is just another drawback from myself purchasing one.
My Tilt is an eye catcher on its own. I always get compliments, even by iPhone users. XDA and the great community within has allowed me to completely understand the software that is on my device and customize my phone with great applications.
donate me one and I will help porting linux. looks nice but only plus vs kaiser is vga imo.
u think anyones gonna make a rom that looks like the hTC diamond?
i have high hopes for dutty

I believe the rapheal has a slideout keyboard with a similar form factor to the diamond, could be wrong

next phone ?

hero - magic - tattoo ?
They all are on android ? Which one to choose ?
I'm opting for magic - with one exception, no real qwerty keyboard.
Tia,
m32
I've had a Tattoo. I sent it back. I'm gonna get a Nokia of all phones next. Decided I'll get a n97 mini. I like them, they look solid.
The Tattoo was very good. But I was disappointed by the processer. I don't think it would last a 24 month contract before I smashed it up. For example, they bundled 2 games on the phone, and neither were smooth. They were both jerky and nasty.
Android does look the way forward though.
Well they all don't have a hardware keyboard
Go for Hero or Magic, they have the same hardware, the Tattoo has a worse screen.
You can easily get Sense on the Magic, so that's not a reason for the Hero (unless you don't want to flash )

Huge improvements
Allthough there is room for a improvements, here and there, its a real big step up from the v. 1.x versions.
Now you can actually manage all the controls, and the new favorite list also works great.
I could be wrong because I only used slingplayer v1.6 once on my HD2, but does it seem like v2.0 video quality is worse than 1.6? (Yes I am on the high quality setting)

I would agree with this. Definatly looks worse. I do like the new interface but It seems like its going down the route of "iPhone". Good app design but has taken away most of the settings like resolution, audio sync etc. And just left us with Low Quality & High Quality. I think I can manage as it does feel alot better to use now but would like some more options.
also available in the UK aswell
Hrm...was probably going to go buy a slingbox if this was working good...but seems like quality isn't good at all..Correct?
Probably will just wait for MobiTV to be released then...
The quality does seem a little worse on the new software and does lack custom settings but my got does it stream better, I could never get a good stream without constant buffering at work with about half signal of EDGE, now its off like a trooper.
Quality is still very watchable and finally we have full screen. After owning a slingbox for over a year now I am definalty not put off by this small drop in quality.
If you want TV on your mobile get a slingbox pro with freeview. Then you get the added facility to watch it on any computer in the world too.

30 Sec Skip Fwd/Back
I have a Touch Pro II. Anyone figure out all the keyboard mappings (for a DishNetwork PVR)?
I Found FF and Rwd, but I'd really like the Skip Fwd/Back buttons.
I also saw in an iPhone press release that their app was incorporating Dish Remote Access (hopefully for setting up the PVR). Any sign of that here ?
Just tested 2.0 on my old Tilt for grins.
Wanted to see if the reduced quality/better streaming was HD2 platform issue or not. Same reduced quality and good streaming on the Tilt. Moved back to version 1.6 and get better quality with same good streaming. This is from a Slingbox Classic. Could be different from newer units.
