Hey all,
Just an idea. Does anyone out there think that it might be a good idea to start a thread about Exchange and OTA activesync issues? I have fielded a few questions recently and just figured that I would ask. (perhaps not located here in WM6 group but since this is most active I figured I would ask here).
Yes, I think it is a good idea.
Why? What is the problem? I've have used at least 5 different WM6 Roms as well as WM5 cooked versions, all working fine with my TMobile MDA and Push/Activesync and front-end exchange server here.
Personally.... None...
Hey....
Personally, I have similar setup and no issues with multiple roms as well. I have just been answering a few questions lately from people who have been having issues and rather than have them get off topic in other forums non-related to exchange / active sync issues I figured I would start one.
RV
Ok, I am feeling ya'
Let the questions/issues begin! Will help if I can to answer questions or test.
Real World Problem
Perhaps you will allow me to jump in with a real world problem, then.
I was able to synch with Exchange 2003 SP2 no problem. I essentially have two different scenarios:
1. I have no T-Mobile service at my desk, so I hook up to my XP machine with a USB cable and run AS 4.5. That view puts me on a private network (192.162.xxx.xxx); the pertinent server configuration is ISA 2006 front end to the network and a WS 2003 running Exchange behind it. The XP machine gets its IP address from DHCP server on the ISA machine, using the ISA address as a gateway for the local network.
2. Away from my desk, I connect via GPRS. The connection is to the ISA server using the public DNS name of mail.<domain>.com. This means a VPN connection.
So after flashing a new ROM, I can no longer synch locally. I get a 85010001 error message, bad HTTP protocol. Not much helpful information out there; I made certain that integrated authentication was not checked on the directory security tab for the IIS folder, and I went through the deletion and recreate of the IIS folders per MS article. Still won't synch up with the same error.
Additional information. RPC over HTTP is set up on the Exchange server via ISA server, and publicly purchased certificate covers the IIS DEFAULT directory. I can do OWA from inside and outside the network, synch via GPRS when I have service but can't when I use a USB connection. I had copied my WM5 settings down before I flashed, and they are set correctly. HOWEVER, when I unlocked the phone before going to WM6, I reloaded 2.26 from T-MOBILE AND THIS PROBLEM SHOWED UP BEFORE WM6! There were no reboots or changes on any of the servers or the XP machine from when it was working to when it wasn't.
Thanks, sorry if this was posted int the wrong place.
Hey rvverito, I'm an Exchange admin myself and would love to help others who had problems setting up the Exchange/OTA Sync. If you're interested in any help or just get stuck on a sticky problem, drop me a PM or email. (Both will be pushed to my device )
Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with ISA, I mainly service SBS servers and a WS 2003 box of my own, but with a hardware firewall. From your post it's not clear exactly what the error message is. WHen it comes to Microsoft 0x850001 is different than 850001, so if you could expand on that, it would be great.
Activesync reports the error
the 85010001 error is a windows dialogue box that comes from Activesync and not to be confused with something in one of the event files. In fact, there are no event postings on either the Exchange nor the XP boxes, and for that matter not on the ISA box, either. The error descriptions indicate a bad HTTP protocol, but I have seen other references to this error where the user wasn't even running Exchange and was trying to synch with some POP3 service. Go figure.
I know that with a certificate, there are some extra considerations, but i seemed to have had it working just fine, now not at all.
I am convinced it has something to do with Exchange and inside the local network. The WM5/6 setting capactiy is simply not rich enough to let me play with some things.
Here is another wierd thing. I am running a Netgear wireless router with WPA-PSK security. I try setting this up as a wi-fi network on my MDA and it comes back unavailable. There is a scanner on the build, and when I turn on SID broadcasting, I can see the network. However, the broadcaster says it is running WEP. If I turn off the SID, the broadcaster says it is open. And of couse, a dozen or so devices including a Nintendo Wii are all affectionately connected to the router.
thanks - L
Hmm, from the sounds of it, you may have to load the certificate onto your device. It is possible that you had it before you started the whole reflashing your phone deal, so it's worth a shot.
Of like mind
that is the conclusion I came to as well. I have been sorting out how to get the cert onto the device.
what troubles me though, is why it works over GPRS.
It could be because you have the certificate for AS/OWA, but not one for connecting to the LAN. I'm not sure what your network topology is like, so I can't really help you in that regard/
one more thing, if you have stupid tmobile proxy enable it will not let you sync with Exchange when its docked with PC, nor your pda will have access to internet. BLAME the t-zone service for blocking inbound traffic over proxy or get your self fully fledge internet for 29.99 or what you can do is disable the proxy when you connect to pc or installed battery status extended and enable option where it disables proxy when wifi is turned on. This will let you sync over wifi however again when docked with PC it can't be synced until you manually turned of proxy. Hope this helps.
wish that were it
but proxy is turned off. thanks.
Ever since I installed phonealarm, ActiveSync has been a problem. Either it does not connect or auto-matically connects after every 4 to 5 mins, syncs calender and contacts for one minute and then disconnects.. Problem is if I am transferring a file to storage card, it disconnects before transfer is complete and then reconnects and then disconnects...
Somebody plz help me....
Have you tried this from the WiKi?
How can I stop Active Sync from always turning-on even when it is not connected to my PC?
Go to menu->add server source->write down any server address (fake)->complete procedure then menu->schedule->switch to manually (at the top of the list)
You have to give us more details. Was it working OK before phonealarm? How are you connected? Have you checked phonealarm's settings?
On my experience, the latest version of phonealarm causes problems, so I still am using version 1.58.

After you've done all this, un-check the boxes on the programs being sync'd. This should stop active sync, and creating a control log in windows. Here's a screen shot of un-checking boxes so you understand what I'm talking about.
I have just installed a nice TNT 5.0 on my Qtek (Cingular 8125 like but called Qtek 9100 on Colombia).
I´m having an extrange issue regarding the GPRS-Edge internet connection of Windows Live Messenger, and I´m not sure if this could be because our cellphone provider, because of the newer 2.69.11 Radio I´m using or because of any other reason.
Actually the GPRS-Edge connection (It says Edge so it must be edge) it´s working like a charm on Internet Explorer or Opera. But when I try to conect to a Windows or Microsoft related website via Internet Explorer or Opera, the connection can´t be established (say http://mobile.live.com). This happens also when trying to connect to Windows Live Messenger using GPRS or Edge. It does not connect at all.
It´s almost like my cellphone provider has some exceptions on their gprs connection that makes connecting to a Windows or Microsoft server almost impossible.
Nevertheless, there is a walkthrough that curiously worked out and got me really pissed off as it happened a few times before I definetly could find out what was I doing that got everything working...
If I connect to the internet via Wi-Fi (By the way i´m not sure i must press the wi fi button twice on the command manager in order to get it up and running), I can do both things: log into Windows Live Messenger and use the full featured messenger client (send files, pictures, see avatars, send voice, etc) and log into any microsoft website (say http://mobile.live.com).
Til here, everything goes to the cellphone provider.
Here comes the weird thing:
If I turn off the Wireless network after login into messenger, the software automatically looks up for the lost connection and re-connects to the web using GPRS (EDGE) and manages to login successfull, so I can see messenger contacts and chat with them using gprs (edge). But I loose all the internet brownser ability to browse microsoft domains (mobile.live.com
I´m not sure if this has to do with the CHAP or the PAP GPRS autentication. I have tried both without waiting any time before attempts, with no luck.
Also, I´m not sure if this could be related to the EDGE network, as I previously owned a symbian sonyEricsson P910a that did not supported Edge but could connect with no trouble to Messenger through IMPlus.
I´ve also tryed the IMPlus version on the pocket pc with the same bad result as using directly Windows Live Messenger.
Any ideas?
Could it be possible to disable the EDGE network and use exclusively GPRS via Regedit?
Trying everything now. Even downgraded and upgraded again...
I can surf the web now using IE, even on the http://mobile.live.com site, but when trying to use Windows Live, i get a connection error and then a message saying
"Windows Live was unable to establish anInternet connection. Please check your Internet settings and make sure that you have access to data services under your billing plan. If you need help, please contact your mobile service provider.".
The incredible thing is that i´m actually using messenger beta directly on pocket internet explorer and it works, not quite nice, but it does, using wi-fi.
So why Windows Live can´t use this connection to log in?
Now, using GPRS connection, I try to log into http://mobile.live.com and it took too much saying opening... but it made it. But I was not soo lucky when i pushed forward to try to access the mail link on that site (that worked on wi-fi) as it got stuck at opening forever and finally it displayed an error. Same on any link under that page. It seems that it takes too long and crashes. But still I can go to any other site (Tryed www.sun.com right away and it downloaded quite fast a 200kb front page, so i´m not sure that this could be a Radio Issue.)
My Info:
ROM: 6.0.0.0 WWE
DATE 2/02/07
RADIO 2.69.11
PROTOCOL 4.1.13.30
ExtROM: Empty.
I´m trying windows-live-conection-fix from Faria right now...
Still when i try to login to messenger using windows live it says immediatelly There´s a connectivity problem.
I´m
i can't determine what is the exact error do you have, but i want to say it is working with me either with WiFi or GPRS, check out your settings carefully and try to set the settings as usual (don't use network wizard) and test.
I also can have intermittant connection problems using Messenger. It occurs on my Wizard (GPRS and Wifi) and on various PCs too. Before blaming the Wizard, consider it might be a problem with Microsoft and their servers. Usually on either PC or Wizard it will connect after a couple of tries for me. It could be that your provider has blocked the relevent ports or servers on your GPRS but I'm sure we would have heard from other users of your carrier if that is the case.
Ok. I´m from Colombia, and my carrier is called Comcel. There´s no Network wizard available for it at the moment.
Before unlocking my sim and messing up with the first wizard love upgrade (unfortunatelly i can´t find the original rom and probably i will need to extract it from my fathers phone if i can get a hand on it, but still will need to read all about it first...) I was able to connect to MSN without any issues at all. Even on my old symbian phone I used IM+ without any issues. Now that I upgraded it´s getting quite difficult.
Actually I can connect now without any trouble after a soft reset, using Wi-Fi, and it´s really nice. But I can´t get it to connect through GPRS (It´s definetly not a carrier issue as my brother has a WM5 wizard too that I won´t touch before I have this figured out first, and he can connect without any issues, quite fast, using an old 2.17 radio version on his G4).
The strange thing is that I can fly through the web (i´m now installing gmail-g.jar directly on my phone through gprs).
The strange thing is that when I go to www.microsoft.com or mobile.live.com i get stuck on Opening... and the GPRS connection goes too slow. Probably checking something...
It´s like under gprs there something going.
I´m aware that all the symptoms are saying something about carrier permits... but still with my sim card on my brother´s phone (it´s not my line) it works without any issues.
Now, I have started up the Wireless LAN again and it logged in right away on windows live messenger (it´s really nice...).
Then I went offline again, get the wireless off on the cellphone, get the messenger up and running on my vista computer, and then try to login into the phone using again gprs....
Miracle!!! I get logged out from vista!!!! but it doesn´t get all the way there on the mobile phone, as it get´s stuck on signing in... (Not enought)...
Now logged of from vista, I try to login again on the cellphone, no luck...
And loose the hability to navigate into mobile.live.com
Ok.
I do it one more time from scratch.
I soft reset my device...
then I go to internet explorer mobile and type http://mobile.live.com/
It starts the GPRS (Edge) connection right away... and goes to Opening... on the status bar... No luck.
But still I can download mail from the java applet of Gmail, and go to any other website, and even load google maps on the device under gprs...
So it´s a Windows Live issue that seems to have something against my gprs connection.
I was wondering if it has anything to do with CHAP or PAP autentication, but on my carrier they dont really know as they are charging me with their calls, as they don´t care, and I have tryed both but there seems to be no difference.
Anyway on my brother´s wizard the settings are exactly the same as mine on the gprs conection...
I will try to make my cellphone gprs connection work like a modem for my pc and then I will try to navigate the web and login into messenger from my pc using my cellphone gprs connection to see if i can do it, and then I will get back at you.
our network had this issue before, but they solved this later (thats b4 1-2 years)
Ok. I´m gonna try, one by one, the different radio versions that are on the radio-only forums.
Still if you know where can I get my hands on radios 2.17 and 2.49 (2.49.11) is the one that came originally with the phone and it´s the one that is on my father´s untouched wizard...
I´ll get back on you if i found anything...
By the way, does it has anything to do with the regional settings? Mine is Spanish Colombia even when i´m using your TNT 5.0 OS. Still I have run the keyboard spanish patch in order to get my keyboard layount right and i´m still only two signs off on the keyboard but it´s almost ok.
I know that this is not the place, but i´m off on the "D" key that it´s suppost to be a "+" but instead it´s showing the "Euro" symbol (don´t have that on my latin american pc), and on the C key it´s supposed to be a "Ç" instead there´s the "+" sign.
I had this issue the other day, luckily I work for the provider. The issue is with the gprs apn that you are using. If ur provider has multiple apns, then try another. If not u going to have to wait until they resolve their issues.
Dont worry, it isnt the phone and it isnt the ROM. I had the problem too when I just put tnt 5 on my device. Its a problem with the provider.
Thanks Mitchie55. So I will rest my case trying to flash, reflash, upgrade and downgrade radios, and try to trick out the registry for Windows Live security policies... Anyway, what´s exactly a GPRS APT and how can I check if my carrier has more than one GPRS APT? Are those ports? Can I check them under the GSM Test Mode screen (*#*#364#*#*)?
After all my messing around with Windows Live Messenger´s connection issues, i came along a Registry String that got my attention.
It´s not that I want to panic everybody, but on the TNT 5.0 Profesional with HTC Today release there´s a registry line that states:
HKLM\Services\Windows Live\Platform\Passport\PolicyExpiry
String 2007-09-25T19:16:57.9251948Z
I´m wondering what will happen on the 25th of September at 7:17:00 pm UTM...
Any ideas?

Its APN - Access Point Name. Thats what is needed when u create a Cellular GPRS connection to connect to the internet.
im having the same issues, im with rogers wireless in canada
everything works except for the windows mobile live
i updated the software and i'm running ver. 10.6.0033.0600
on an x7500/athena updated to wm6 (originally shipped with wm5 from expansys)
i contacted my provider and they said they dont have another access point name for me to use other then the default one they provide
and they claimed it was a windows mobile live issue,
i tried this in my treo 750 as well and still nothing is happening
thats 2 devices now that dont work ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....
i cant figure out what i'm doing wrong.
Hello!
I'm new here, please bear with me... Also i'm norwegian, which i will use as an excuse.
Well, to the point...
I currently have vjgraces WM6 v3.7 on my Tornado (qtek8310).
In my SMS inbox the left softkey is "delete", but in WM5 the left softkey is "new". Is there any way to change this?
Also, in messaging "app", is there any way to add Hotmail as a option there, as I could in WM5?
Jarle
edit: these are not critical problems, I can learn to live with it. I just got MSN to work over wifi also, so the hotmail-issue is not so critical. But i would be nice to have the e-mails on the phone tho.
Also, anyone got a good notepad-app to recommend?
edit2: Got a lot on my mind today...
IP Phone. Does it ever work? In the Settingsmenu in Comm manager it doesn't work to select ip phone, and i cant find it in start->settings->connections.
Is this option disabled? Would be great to call for free in wifi-zones.
Sorry if a lot of my questions are noob and such, but as i said, im norwegian.
Also, (lots of alsos here today), before, with WM5, if I had the phone connected to my computer with USB, I could surf on the phone using the computers internett connection. Now I cant, why?
i can help you with the internet thingy but not on the other stuff,if you want to use your desktop connection for you wm phone just got to settings/connection/advance and set everything there to automatic that should let you use your desktop internet connection on your wm phone.
It is set to automatic on every option, but it still download over edge.
Anyway, thats not a big problem, its not often I use internett on my phone when its connected to PC anyway, but thank you for your help.
Also, anyone got a good notepad-app to recommend?
I use PocketNotepad by Tillansoft. Freeware, no troubles noticed yet.

Your 'Pass through Internet' issue
For your internet connectivity issue while connected to PC, please try this:
In 'Active Sync', go to File - Connection Settings.. The field, 'This computer is connected to:' must have the selection 'The internet'. If you made a change here, close Active Sync, restart the PC, connect the device and try.
You may be interested in these: If you use Wndows XP, search for the topic 'Residential Gateway' in Help and Support. Also look for 'Desktop pass-through overview' in Active Sync Help topics. Hope it helps.
JoLe.
Thank you Jole. I had the 'connection settings' in ActiveSync set to Automatic before. I changed it to Internet, and it works like a charm!
Going to test PocketNotepad also.
Hi there
I have a problem with my new HTC Trophy.
It works fine with my Wireless router, It connects fast when I'm in home, and I can surf and get emails and all the stuff.
But then I tried to use zune for configure the wireless sync and problems came.
Zune detecs fine my SSID (withc is not hidden and doesn¡t have MAC adress filter active). Then I click on "Set up wireless sync" button and on the next screen, on the "Confirm Network" one, this is what happens when I click "next":
"Can't detect your phone"
An error has ocurred.
Zune was unable to connect to the wireless network access point.
Error code: C00D07C9."
I really don't understand what is going there. because My zune works pretty fine downloading apps and sync the phone.
Help Anyone?
Thanks in advanced!
I had the same problem with my Omnia7. I found out that you need to disable windows firewall or anyother antivirus firewall when doing the first sync.
Also, connect the phone to the computer and leave it idle for 10-15 mins before you setup wireless sync.
Oh man thanks very much for your help.
Just as soon I turned Off my windows Firewall the sync was completed without any kind of error.
Cheers!
I'm glad i could help.
Cheers

so, after the first sync you can turn your firewalls back on though, correct?
yes, I'd also add an exception for zune.exe to the firewall too

This worked for me also.. Great tip..
Worked for me as well. Thanks a lot
Nice one, I just spent 10 min trying to connect to an AP i forgot that i activated the access control months ago
*then it clicked*
I have same problem with Omnia 7. My laptop running Windows 7 64 bit is connected to same wireless network as my phone. Connection on both systems works without any problem. But when I try to setup wireless sync I have same problem like described here. I disabled Windows Firewall and also real time protection in Microsoft Security Essentials. I do not use any other security software. Any other solution?
same here
I'm also having issues getting wireless sync setup So far I've tried;
Disabling Windows Firewall
Connecting to network via cable
Removing wireless connection in phone and rebooting
Disabling AV
I'm at a loss as to what I else I can try. Wireless on the phone works, wireless on the laptop works, just setting up wireless sync doesn't
anything else to add
I have tried EVERYTHING to get this working. I have disabled everything that might be blocking the ports, I have reinstalled software, you name it.
Nothing.
The strange thing is, the phone worked and synced fine on Windows XP, then I upgraded (moved sideways?) to Vista and now I'm screwed. This is s**t Microsoft.
They can't tell me anything
MAke sure you are signed into the Zune software. i think this has to be done to let zune know that you are connected to the network. I think it is just a wierd bug thats never been caught. for some reason my auto sign in doesn't work. But i couldnt get it to work so i closed zune, then re-opened it signed in (top right corner of zune) then wen to settings and it worked.
I went into settings and click "Forget this phone" so that it would create a new profile. Still didn't work. Then I read on MS support Article ID: 952304 (goo.gl/6nsSm) that it may not work when connected to a public network.
D'Oh, I was connected to my VPN for work so it couldn't find my wireless access point. I disconnected/logged off my VPN, pressed Retry Wireless Sync and it worked like a charm. Then logged into my VPN again. Presto.
Hope this helps someone...
My Samsung Focus has never worked with wireless sync. I got it the day Windows Phone launched in the US and I've been through several hard resets over the past year and multiple reinstalls of Zune.
It sets up fine and then starts to sync and sometimes it will get through a song or two but it will eventually just stall during a transfer and there's no errors of any type. I can leave it there for hours and it won't progress any. I have no firewalls running or connected VPN's.
I've given up trying to get it to work. Very annoying.
I think I found the answer: According to [1] Zune is not compatible with routers using WPA/WPA2 mixed mode. Setting it to ONE of the two should make it work...

hi guys,
so i think i have a solution but my modem ist airties it can be change with other models. so i have checked the link that hades has shared in german . yes you need to choose one of thee password code and then you go to ip adress of your modem default gateaway i mean, then then there should be isolation users something you need to untick that then save it . thats what i did and it worked.
i hope it works for you too
cheers
If this problem persists even after all the solutions provided, it is most likely that Zune does not currently properly support your Wireless Adapter associated with the computer.
I have this similar issue, I can sync fine on all computers but my desktop refuses to do so. I have even tried reinstalling everything.
Zune Sync USED to work for me... it now no longer works. The only change is that I've changed carrier ROMs since my phone's original carrier refused to update to 7440 and Internet Sharing. On my new ROM w/7440 I can't get it to work like it had... this sucks b/c I do miss it. Sigh WP7 was suppose to not require ROM flashing and hacking.
EDIT: Got it past the Set Up Wireless Sync prompts by going to "General Settings" on Zune and checking the Always start software when device is connected option box.
EDIT #2:Turns out, that did not get my LG Optimus 7 syncing, as now the PC would recognize the phone over wifi, but would fail to install proper drivers. I next had to uninstall Zune using this MS FixIt tool and then I reinstalled Zune as the tool prompts you. You don't lose any information during this process! And now my wifi sync works perfectly again. FWIW I think all this may have started when I installed specific LG drivers to be able to change LG ROMs.
