is very unhelpfull
have emailed them 3 times in the past month and still no reply
about the xda2i being compatable with tomtom when quite plainly it isn't and rom update
oh well will wait and wait for a reply
also i see they are quite happy to text me about just about anything well in advance

thats wierd an email has just arrived from them
Good Morning,
Thank you for your email.
Does the device on freeze when using TomTom? Which version of TomTom are you using, Is it 3 or 5? Does the XDA2i freeze only when TomTom is running?
TomTom currently don’t support either the Wired or Bluetooth version of their product when used with the XDA2i. They are currently working on this. You can try changing the XDA2i into it’s corporate mode (remove the O2 Active Menu) which has been known to limit freezing in other instances. Follow the instructions below, and please feel free to come back to us to tell us whether it has helped.

At least you got an answer e-mail them 2 months ago still waiting.

xda 2i

,Hi...1st time on this forum... I have just bought the new o2 xda 2i... having problems already with it.. awaiting my second replacement ..
I have sat nav maps installed but when using it,, the phone keeps locking up,, always having to soft reset... can anyone advise if this is a common problem with this model.. i want to be able to use the phone whilst using satnav..
cheers...
I also found that the drop down list for rom version and radio.. do not contain my phomes settings??
...strange, I just posted a similar problem.
Are you using TomTom Nav3? What happens with mine is that when I lose the phone signal, the whole device crashes.
tomtom prob's
Hi... yes I am... I saw your posting after I put mine on... exactly the same problem..the whole thing freezes up and has to be rebooted!! a pain!
I have just started my contract with o2 and phoned them.. they didnt recognise the problem and are sending me a new xda... again!..my third one in a month..but I'm not sure there is anything wrong with the phone/xda... I tried to switch the phone off and ran the mapping softwarare again... worked perfectly!! but no phone...It seemed that when the phone picked up its signal or a call the system locked up...dont kow how to get around it though... was hoping for some answers on this site...
cheers, Bill
This is a known problem with TomTom 3 - if you call tomtom, then will say they don't support AKU2 yet (TYPICAL!)
O2 know about as do TomTom.... i'm told that tomtom are fixing the problem.
i doubt there will be a fix for this as ttv5 is due out in the next couple of months
seems a little strange as I'm using the Xda IIi with tomtom and have not experienced any problems
What version are you using T3.07T is the latest it is the traffic version but you do not have to enable it
still locking up...
Well.... tried new xda 2i...didnt load o2 stuff from start...re loaded tomtom navigator and eventually got the gps system to work thro' com port 1..( my last posting)... chose corporate setting as recommended ..using pin shown..(0506)... went out to try it before sending back my last ppc...still locks up....freezes,,apparently when phone picks up a fresh signal..presumably from local ariel?....sooooo frustrated. .. so still have to switch to flight mode to use navigator properly...
does anyone elsa have useful suggestions to fix this problem...please :?:

TomTom Navigator 6 on WM6

I'm hoping to be moving from my Treo 650 to the 750 soon. One thing that is holding me back is the seeming lack of support for WM6 from TomTom (my current GPS nav software of choice). Has there been any luck getting TomTom working on a WM6 Treo? If not, are there any alternatives that can do all that TomTom can do?
Thanks in advance,
David
I'm running TT6 on WM6 with no probs at all. It ran fine on my 750 with the 3 Australia ROM, and is still running beautifully after a vanilized my ROM.

From my experience you will regret it. We have bought several treo 750V and it is the most horrible pda i ever had. Even with the WM6 upgrade the treo is going to silent mode and wil only give an incoming sound after a soft reset. Reception is not good compared to other phones. Carkits wil only synchronize when you make catagoris on you're contacts. Calls are dropping etc.etc. Vodafone gives bad support and send us to palm. Palm will only look athe treo's if we paid for it.
Have TT6 runing on UK vodafone ROM no problems.
does ur tomtom mutes the voice directions (screen stays on) when a phone call comes in? or tomtom swtiches to today screen when call comes in?
Also, has anyone using TT6 in the US had a problem with cross country trips taking a literal ton of time (30 minutes) to route? It said it was checking streets... and went to 300000 before I gave up and canceled.

Hmm... after running several other softwares, I decided to try reloading TT6, and it's magically running just fine. Orlando to San Francisco in 2 to 3 minutes. Weird. Disregard.

When a call comes in TT6 mutes the voice direction and place an icon in the bottom-left corner (crossed speaker icon = no sound). It stays on TT6. It does not switches to the today screen.

what ttn version(build) r u using? will really appreciate if u can send me the copy of sf...i can use my existing activation codes to use on my treo...
thanks
I have just changed over fom Treo680 to a Teo750 with WM6 .
I have a retail version of TTN6 with UK maps and if i install it on my 680 i get full UK postcodes but with it on my 750 i dont get full postcode option on my 680.
I use theis all the time and feel like ive gone backwards instead of upgrading ??
maybe ill go back to the 680 ??

GPS problems? Please read this...Apparantly HTC knows nothing about it...

I've had a number of problems with my Touch Pro, failing to obtain a GPS lock. I tried most suggestions on this site, but the GPS is nowhere as reliable as I had on my trusty N95.
I contacted HTC and got this response indicating that “very very few” people are having issues...
"Hello,
Reading through the troubleshooting you have performed, I can think of nothing else to suggest. You have cross tested with different GPS orientated software, tinkered with the internal settings all to no avail.
To date we are getting very, very few complaints relating to GPS issues on the Touch Pro, so I do not anticipate a "fix" for the problem you are facing any time soon."
...I think we should all contact HTC support (http://www.htc.com/www/CS_Mail.aspx)and make sure that is clear you are having problems with the GPS so they can investigate and fix ASAP
I contacted HTC earlier in the year, when they released 6.1 for the Kaiser. Since version 6.1, my kaiser gps performance was poor - in fact very similar to the TP. However i never heard back from them........
PS you need to remove )and from the end of the link in order for it to work
Today i've sent a email to HTC suport, complaining about the gps lag .
but so far I have'nt heared from them.
K, done!
I hope that this issue is resolved soon.
C'mon guys, everyone send em a message -- even if your device works perfectly. Take a hit for the rest of us.
This is what I wrote:
I have tried everything to get the GPS on the HTC TOUCH PRO to work as well as it should on all my other devices. Getting a fix takes FOREVER on this device and the lag can sometimes be horrible. There are SO MANY people with this issue that it's not funny (google or read the forums and you will see). Is HTC doing anything to resolve this issue? I just paid $3600.00 for three of these devices and am considering returning them for something with mroe reliable GPS. Is HTC doing anything about this? Thanks very much!

For the record, my GPS works fine, but the time it takes to get a fix could be helped (a couple of mins). This is after applying all the reg tweaks found herein, etc.

I did the same about 3 weeks ago, still nothing from HTC Bad support from HTC. They just do not acknowledge these problems....
request to HTC sent.
I have also sent my comment about GPS lag to HTC, asking when they start replacing phones
I sent 2 support requests. The first was replied to overnight, but didn't help at all. Was sloppy, spelling errors, didn't actually read what I said. The second asked for a more senior member to read my request and come up with a sensible solution. This took about 4 days.
I send an email too. I encourage everyone to do the same.
Maybe they will do something.
EDIT. @private69 has already an answer.

Email sent, compared to my old Kaiser (RIP) which was pronto on acquiring the GPS, I'm usually lucky to acquire a signal before I get to my destination using a map... So absolute rubbish!
Try this AT YOUR OWN RISK to see if it helps:

It was originally released for the Kaiser, but all it is doing is replacing a DLL related to the GPS with an older, more reliable WM6 version. It works wonders for iNav on my Tilt, and it just may work on the Touch Pro as well.
cheer up!!
hmm..that's quite a good reply....
atleast they didn't reply that tp is a bussiness phone, and everything shouldn't work as it is only meant for business....
gps isn't necessary for business,
and so does multimedia playback capability,
and so does photo, and video recording,
and you shouldn't suppose to listen to whatever the other person that's on the other side of the call saying to you,
however you get some complimentary features such as auto answer in your pocket,
special broken screen design,
what else and you tell me....as the list goes on
by the way i see it, when they say they have bussiness in mind for TP,
they really mean it,
business for HTC
but not you owners of TP
Also, report ALL the problems that you found with your TP. It's very important. See this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426585 (touch pro issues)
I've sent some e-mails, one answered (summarized) "[..]However I can also see that these issues do not effect everyone, we have had a lot of good feedback regarding this device[..]". And other couple of unsatisfied replies. But, after a while, a guy called Mike B. was nice and asked me to give him my cell number for calling me to discuss about the issues (since i don't own a TP I've gave him a phone number of another user that is disappointed about TP).

Don't try this on TP. I got my own risk, after install cab file from this thread, my TP can't find GPS at any COM port, I had to uninstall it and changed GPSID registry back to original DLL file but no luck, my GPS found in COM4 but my TP can't receive any GPS signal. I have to hardreset.

I am amidst of testing the TP's GPS capabilities as I've written in another thread, and I also tried this GPSID dll file. I have to say, that firstly it does work, although I used it a little bit differently. I simply copied the GPSID_QTC6.dll file into the windows dir, exchanged the appropriate files' names and I got a system with instantenious fix and far better reception - I got a fix indoors! BUT, the lag still remains ...
Testing continues ...
Greetings,

Hmmm, also mailed a while ago to HTC about this issue and never gotten a response... This is my first HTC phone but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired so far.
I'll mail them again (and really feel the urge to give that dll fix a try)
Also mailed HTC...
probably will never got answer, but.. who knows.

This didnt work for me either...the phone seems to think there is no GPS receiver installed at all. Using GPSTest to scan the ports and baud rates after using that DLL and doing a soft reset...no success.
I received a email from HTC folllowing on from my original, saying they have received a few more complaints.
KEEP EMAILING HTC, ITS SLOWLY GETTING THROUGH!
Well, I also tried the dll switch and although my phone can see the gps receiver I simply don't get any signal... no sattelites at all. So that's that for now.
Gonna mail HTC again today about the issue...
bump.
Could someone make this a sticky?!
Update: so far I haven't heard a thing from HTC (only that they got my email)
great sevice......

So I emailed HTC about GPS performance

Was a few weeks ago, and now I have 2 replies to my original question:
The GPS performance seems to be sluggish on my HTC Touch Pro. I have tried a few different gps programs with no success. There is a 5 second delay in following with the gps. Are there any settings that I can try to improve this? Is there a known solution?
So I got a reply back today:
Thank you for contacting HTC Support.
There is no known problem for slow GPS pickup time at this moment.
To speed up the time for locating your position, please use QuickGPS from Start>Programs>QuickGPS.
You can also perform soft resetting the handset and try the GPS software again.
I replied back about how I don't have an issue with getting satellites and got this back:
You can try to increase the baud rate on your handset's GPS Com port.
You should be able to change that from your GPS software's settings.
Try to put in the value greater than 9600.
Also you can expect a slight delay if you have a poor reception.
For that you can try using an external antenna to boost the reception.
Also you can perform hard reset or update the ROM to latest version if everything fails.
If there is a software issue regarding GPS, performing hard reset or updating the ROM will solve that.
Apart from that we do not have other work arounds at this time.
Please be advised that performing hard reset or updating the ROM will erase the internal memory so please back up your data before doing so.
I'd just thought I would post my info here for everyone incase it can help...
Thanks...
It seems like the people at HTC support do not understand what we are talking about.
Here's my support session with HTC support
Me
I'm having problem with the built-in GPS.
Firstly, the speed of GPS update is slow. For example, when I make a turn, it does not update this on the spot. After a about 5-10 seconds, then only I see the update. I also owned an external Garmin 10 GPS. Using it, everything is speedy.
Secondly, if I stop moving, I need to move several metres before the GPS starts working. This render the build-in GPS useless when I'm walking, as I need to walk several metres before I can see the changes.
Thanks.

By this time, I tried to make my point, again.
Me
I understand that I need to purchase the map for Mapking 2007. Is this correct? Anyway, my main problem is actually not regarding the inablity to use the GPS because of not having any GPS software. The main problems that I'm concerned with is: A) If I'm using the GPS while walking, the GPS would not show any movement (I tried with both Mapking and Garmin Mobile XT) until I move for several metres away (without stopping) from my starting location. If I stop, the GPS will stop the movement and I need to start walking several metres before it start functioning again. B) There seems to be a great lag in the GPS reading. The reading is updated several seconds (sometimes up to 30 seconds) after I passed a certain point. The simplest is at junctions. If I make a turn, it is not updated until several seconds after that. This happens for both Mapking and Garmin Mobile XT. To be sure that this has nothing to do with the application used, I tried using the HTC Touch Pro with my Garmin Mobile 10 receiver. Using this device, there is no such lag. Thanks.

But just as before, the HTC support seems to be interested in trying to sell Mapking. Again, I tried to make him/her understand my point.
I understand that I need application like Mapking to utilize the GPS function. The only this is, you are not reading my query in details. I have no problem with the software. I'm now querying regarding the problem I'm facing when using the GPS. So, I'll be repeating myself again: A) If I'm using the GPS while walking, the GPS would not show any movement (I tried with both Mapking and Garmin Mobile XT) until I move for several metres away (without stopping) from my starting location. If I stop, the GPS will stop the movement and I need to start walking several metres before it start functioning again. B) There seems to be a great lag in the GPS reading. HTC has one of the worst Tech service in the world. But they are the leaders in WinMo so they dont worry about it....
They sound really stupid with their replies. Probably someone can direct them here so they really understood what we meant.
HTC support seems to be increadibly crappy...
Sent them 2 mails about the GPS issue (to different sections) and haven't seen a response so far (first one is 3 weeks ago or so, second one over a week).
Also the replies above indicate they hardly even read the mails but type some standard reply without actually thinking of the problem or a solution.
It's also incredible that they would not know about the issue and aren't working on it (from other people I understood they DID know and were working on it... yay for contradiction in replies). This is one of their flagship models, you'd expect they'd atleast have decent intentions of maintaining or supporting it...
Nah, I like the phone overall but their support is a big minus.

Isn't the "walking not update" the static naviagtion thing you have when using Sirf Star III?
Baiscally, the GPS chip ON PURPOSE sends no position update if you move slower than 5 km/h. This was introduced to disable a "crawling" effect, when you stop in one point, but your GPS marker crawles around back and forth due to small GPS signal distrubances.
For Sirf Star III, you could disable this with a special tool, and then you could easily navigate while walking.

Actually from my experience, O2 Asia is also one of the company which has one of the worst Tech Support. Since its shutdown and replaced by MWG, the support is still the same. It is exactly like HTC support. They are not listening to what you are telling them, they just simply answer with standard script.
And, if they can't solve it (actually they never want to solve any problems), they would just ask you to hard reset.
at least HTC knows of our problem
I can agree to HTC having a bad support system.
I think it is about their structure.
I don't know exactly how many level HTC global support has, but at least I know of "level 1 support", as I have daily mail contact to them due to my already 2nd faulty TP which I had to sent back for DOA (dead on arrival) replacement.
My first device was S/N HT832... (which means built in CW 32 of year 2008).
That one had black paint falling off and big GPS lag.
My replacement device was S/N HT833... (built one week after my first TP).
I couldn't even test if paint will fall off or GPS will lag, as the HW keyboard did not work correctly, so I sent it back at the same day I received it from EuroTwice (which is HTC service partner for Germany & BeNeLux).
Now I am waiting for my next replacement and I asked them to make sure to send the latest build version, hoping that HTC has improved at least on the HW problems I faced with my first two TP.
All this sending back, testing, replacing,... process for my first and now also second device is now going on for more than two month.
Lucky me I still have my Tytn working, as normally I start playing and trying different new roms on my old devices.
This is where I am coming back to HTC support structure.
We normally talk to 1st level support, who are not really sitting in HTC, but are just a call canter partner.
Those people are normally nice and friendly, but do not know much about HTC devices, known problems and of course can not make any decision at all.
I think they send all our inquiries to HTC master support located in UK for internal processing and making a decision or giving detailed feedback.
Judging by the time it takes to get this feedback, I believe HTC Master support in UK also have to forward our requests to a 3rd level (maybe in Taiwan or somewhere else where HTC engineers are located).
You can see, this structure can not lead to good customer service, as it is too deep and complex.
I hate when I talk to people who have no idea about the device itself, and just reply by copy&paste of standard text from their manual provided by HTC.
One good thing at the end of this long story is, that HTC seems to know of our GPS lag problem.
As part of one of my mails I wrote to them:
"Is HTC aware of overheating GPS module which leads to GPS not working correctly (lag or no fix)? If yes, which device built has an effective fix for this problem?"
Reply from HTC (2nd or 3rd level support via my contact at 1st level support):
"We are monitoring GPS on the Touch Pro, but not necessarily for the module overheating. We are looking at poor GPS fixes, i.e. where the device is reporting a fix some 100m from its true location. However, we shall make a note to see if any customers are noticing overheating alongside poor fixes, etc."
From this is suggest, that we all register the problems we have with our TP via the HTC website.
Just follow this link: http://www.htc.com/www/CS_Mail.aspx
and make HTC aware of any little problem you experience.
The more people report, the more attention HTC will give to each certain problem, and the earlier we might get a hot fix.
This community is very strong. Every time I come her I see 50 or more people reading TP forum.
If all of us contact HTC via the link above, I am sure they will move (somewhere and somewhen).
Regards,
ARo

It's not a problem, it's a feature
It was introduced recently in Sirf Star III - enabled devices. See this - http://www.gpstuner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4156&sid=8381e795aa3f043ec6bb5a26c3a1b0e9

It's not a problem, it's a feature
It was introduced recently in Sirf Star III - enabled devices. See this - http://www.gpstuner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4156&sid=8381e795aa3f043ec6bb5a26c3a1b0e9

Yes, a feature that can be disabled. Anyway, I owned a Garmin Mobile 10 which is also using Sirf Star III chipset and comparing it to Touch Pro's GPS, Touch Pro's GPS is terrible.
By the way, Touch Pro is not using Sirf Star III chipset.
Sure, but "maybe" they've introduced a similar feature, it's just not documented so clearly?
I had Eten M700 with Sirf Star III and Touch Pro GPS is indeed worse.

GPS isnt working, can anyone help?

Hi all!
Been all over the forum looking for a solution. From what I understand I think I have a faulty handset but it's just come back from from repairs (for other problems) with updated rom/radio. Seems a little strange as it was working before I sent it, now its not.... Same handset...
When I run Google maps and Waze they both see the GPS but it wont pick up any satellites...
Before you say it, i've tested this on the road, in a field .ect so it isnt the signal, tried setting it up manually in google maps, still no joy.
Am I going to have to be without my baby for another week?
Any advice would be welcome, thanks in advance
Hi mate...
I offer no helping hints.. but I got mine back from HTC HK for a shattered screen and had the same problem. I had to return it to HTC to fix, its been about 2-3 weeks and still no answer. They initially told me that its may be just the GPS or associated chip set wasn't plugged in properly... So they will fix it with out charge (incl. freight chargers)
So your not alone with this problem
Try gpstest free fom this page to just test your gps inpriciple excluding any other apps:

Thanks for the reply mate. Was beginning to think it was something i had done,
The main thing that baffled me was its the same even after a Hard reset and standard settings.
At least I know what I have to do. Cant believe I've got to send it off again..
Last time was for a faulty board, what next?
Back to the old Nokia 9500 then... Sigh...
