Does this site include the first XDA model not just latest versions?
Hi,
This is my first time to this site. As I look through the General forum I noticed that most comments refer to Models 1 + 11. I have just purchased from my daughter her XDA that she purchased over 2 years ago, she is upgrading, I just wanted to know if this site will be informative to me seeing I have an old model.
I understand completly that new models come on stream and forums like this will have a change in focus, I was just wondering if older units like my XDA are still a discussion point.
Welcome in the forum.....
I think if you had taken a closer look at the threads you would have seen, that there are many postings concerning the "good old XDA". Also there are many usefull information in the wiki.
Out in the world, there are many useres, that are still using this device.
Sure, the topics about the XDA I are not so frequently than for the newer models (i think that is normal), but if you have any questions i'm sure you get an answer....
Regards
Stefan
Thanks very much Stefan,
I did look through the threads, my mistake was I thought XDA 1 was a newer model then my plain older XDA.
I will now have much enjoyment looking for information on this forum and no doubt, pose more questions as I become familar with my XDA.

This forum is called XDA developers so why are all the phones HTC. I love my XDA's and i will be getting the XDA Zinc when it comes out, how come there is no section for it?
You already said it:
"When it comes out" - the device is not available yet, so I think a proper forum will be created by our admins when it's time for it.
The forums are always created well in advace of the phone actally being released.
XDA history
Whilst the original xda (Wallaby) was an HTC device, the name xda was an O2 name and continues to apply to O2 branded pda's even though manufacturers have changed. If this is, more accurately, an htc-developers forum I can understand them sticking to their guns, but if it is a pda-developers forum I can't.
The Asus MarsII design has been around for a while as the leaked FCC threads have shown. If a MarsII/Zinc folder was going to appear it would have done by now.
Personally, I'd like to see non-HTC folders on here as I like the forum, but it ain't my call. If they don't appear on here, they'll spring up somewhere else as soon as people start buying Zinc's/MarsII's/MDA-whatevers/etc.
i'd post it in the
About xda-developers.com
or request the adm if i were you
my exp is that forum changes comes in bursts and not often
but one problem could be giving the misconception of owners of other devices like LOOX and ipaq and the likes that they could use HTC roms tools and developers exp to fix issues and port roms to their devices because there were forums on the site for their devices
but then that is the case now too
so by giving them their own forum would isolate posts about those devices in their own forums rather then in general
that is ofcause untill ppl got lonely and fustrated from lack of response in their device forum and double posted their "can i unlock my nokia and flash it with WM6 rom" posts
Hey guys,
Could one of the moderators add a forum for the new HTC Max 4G? I know it's a lot of forums to add, but I think this device looks really promising
thanks

i second that. i hope it will work on the att network!
I am assuming that because of this models limited release, it won't be getting a dedicated forum.
Could someone please confirm or deny that Blackstone mods and software are compatible with the Max? If so, then the lack of it's own forum won't be as missed considering the ample community surrounding the HD.
Thank you.
Guys
In About XDA-Devs there is a thread called petitions form users to mods
I think this asking should go there, so you´ll have more chances to get their atention
Just a suggestion.
Looks like a great device, but in order to have a forum, you have to actually have people contributing to it. In all the HTC forums that I read regularly , I have only read one post from someone in Russia, who actually has one.
Any others?
Cool device...I've only seen 2 prior threads on it in the HD section & Networking section.

The first two posts are rather old, the individuals probably weren't aware the device was only being released in Russia. I doubt there are any people actually expecting the Quartz to get a forum of its own at this point.
I simply didn't want to start a new thread for my question, so bumped this one instead. I see where I should have been more clear. Denco7 and Galaxys are correct in their observations that there will likely be little activity directed toward this handset directly. I was just hoping to get some clarification on whether Quartz owners can play with contributions for the HD or not.
In retrospect, starting a new thread in the Blackstone forums would have been more effective.

Here's the original max4g thread that may have some info or you can ask questions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=461922&highlight=max4g
Two facts.
1. HardSPL available (by cmonex).
2. First cooked ROMs have been tested by 4pda users.
Hope these would be enough for hosting new forum for Quartz users as their activity will definitely boost.
first of all mods can't make new forums only admin can do that

this is the forum specific made for such requests
Oh if with gonna have a review this gonan be nice, its a great device.
I humbly suggest that all Devs who are Cooking ROMS and/or making software that is NOT device specific or are for multiple devices move their discussions/threads to the following forums:
XDA Android Software Development
Then we can allow much of the clutter on the Dream forum for just Dream specific software/ROMS, etc.
This forum, since it was the first on this site, is being used by a majority of devs (and, others) to develop/discuss many issues/items NOT specific to the HTC Dream.
I would believe that anyone who created a thread and wished it to be moved could have it done so by making a request to a moderator.
Let me know what you think.
ALSO, there is a general xda forum now for Android Themes:
XDA Android Themes
And, one for Applications and Games:
XDA Applications and Games
should clean things up considerably -- just have more sections to watch
Very, very good. I would hope a lot of threads get moved over there from the Magic/Hero/Dream forums to help seed the place a bit more. A vast majority of the Apps in the Dream Applications section, for example, could be moved over there...
yay, another forum to keep track of! (-_-)....
Wow...someone actually listened to our suggestions, and took action? I'm amazed!

You should remove the word "Dream" from your link text....habitual, I know.

Depends on your purpose for being here. I really would prefer just to check this one for new ROMS, check the Dream Theme forum for new themes...
Then go to the general ones for everything else.
Just makes it easier to search for information! I hate having to troll through ALL the posts here to look for the general Android software development threads!!!
Can we have a dedicated development section for the Cliq, even though its a non HTC device? I mean I know XDA was started specifically for HTC phones. But isn't it time XDA expands and matures?
XDA-Developers and non HTC devices
thefoss has an *excellent* point which has been going around my head in the past couple of days. With the imminent arrival (and my imminent purchase ) of at least two quite interesting Android devices, made by companies other than HTC.

XDA was founded as, and has been a site dedicated to HTC manufactured devices (my first one was my Typhoon which to this day I still sometimes use). Such devices always sported Windows Mobile (all different incarnations) so it used to be a synonym with Windows Mobile/CE/whatever. The exception being the Sony Xperia X1, I assume because of its relative relevance on the marketas well as the fact that sports Windows Mobile.
Then came Android on the HTC Dream. At this point, XDA (at least on my opinion) became the Driving Force behind the "Expert" Android OS mod as well as to the informal user support movement.
We all know that a barrage of new Android devices is coming down the pipe, not just one or two...
What do you guys think? Mods? Owners of the forum? Poll? This is a major deal (to me) and I am torn on the issue...
Hi,
I have googled and searched on XDA, but I couldn't get the right answers. I have found topics which were like +/- 4 years old and other topics which were only made for (example) the HTC hero.
Is there a general howto for android phones, or are the howto's really only made for certain phones?
I'm running Android 2.1 on my Flipout...
Thanks for any feedback.
There are wiki's, web sites, and forums dedicated to each Android phone, for the most part. I would not start on xda if you are a noob. You are better off checking whether Androidforums has a forum dedicated to your phone first, and looking for dedicated pages that may point to other sites.
For the most part, folks on xda have more than a passing familiarity with rooting phones, modifying their ROM's, modifying the interface, and changing linux kernels in devices. Not a good place for you to start until you are more comfortable with your handset.

I'm not planning to modify interface/ROM etc... Just a "simple" backup so I can change my ROM (I can't stand MotoBlur). I have seen guides/tutorials on XDA for other (popular) phones, so I was just wondering if I could use that guide for the Flipout? Or maybe somebody has experience on this matter...? Btw, I have checked the wiki; the Flipout isn't on the list...
I'm checking Androidforums atm, thanks.
Hi all,
I've got a question concerning security boot camps. I saw a post on XDA Developers where a product is advertised.... I cannot find any reviews in this forum or online in general. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with it?
It concerns this message: https://www.xda-developers.com/become-a-cybersecurity-expert-with-this-extensive-bootcamp-bundle/
It seems a bit fishy to me but I'm really tempted to buy into it... have you had any experience with it?
I post this here because it targets security in general (which also includes Android or mobile devices in general). Looking for advice and general experiences, thank you in advance (and sorry if it doesn't belong here, I read the "What belongs in this forum" Post and think it will fit here...)
Thank you!

OP here, nevermind about this question.
I saw a few posts on a website that basically read like: "it's just a bunch of videos and there are more and better quality videos on youtube about the different subjects (which are free)" and "if it's sold for a small price and they say it's usually a lot more, it's almost always just worth the small price"
So don't bother with offers like those. Just wanted to say this in case anyone comes across this post.
