Hi , i'm new to pocketpc. I whould like to check my email account every 10 minutes so i do get an alert when i receive a new email. is there a solution out there which polls my email account without leaving the pda-section of my xda 3 on all the time ? having the pda-section on my xda 3 is running out of power within 4 hours
thanks a lot,
amorph
i doubt it since outlook is on the pda and if the pda is turned off then outlook is not running
I think you will find that as long as you set up in Outlook for the account to be checked every 10 mins, the PDA will turn on and do it - it does for me.
The PDA is never really completely off, there are things going on in the background.

Currently my Pocket Outlook (WM6.1) shows emails dating back up to about a week(?).
Is there anyway of getting this to go back further, so, say for example, I can have 30 days worth of emails visible on my phone?
yes you change under options in activesync
on your pc
you can set it to pretty much any timeframe
I'm syncing OTA with Exchange, so don't use activesync on my PC. Can it still be done?
Actually.. think I just found it
On phone, went to Active Sync > Email > Options
Download the past... 1 month
Does anyone know how i can set the send and receive schedule for my emails to something less than 5 minutes? I know this will kill my battery but i'm only planning on changing this at set times of the day.
Thank you!
Was thinking of doing this as well. How are you limiting the send/recv schedule to run at certain times?
I guess ill just have to manually change it...
Nothing out there?
go to google and search "seven" the 3rd or 4th post is about a email push service (and no it doesn't kill your battery , i use it and know firsthand) . anyway ... go to the site and look for beta at the very top of the screen follow instructions and download what you like lol , ive used it reliably for the past year and a half or so but keep in mind that beta means beta and usually about once every 2 weeks it goes under for updates and the like .

you can use this application to automatically send/receive outlook mobile email and activesync. i don't think you can specify every 5 minutes as it is scheduled using actual set times and not intervals. this program is what i use as i don;t have a data plan; every morning it have it pull my email from my imap accounts.
Thanks for the responses. I have checked out 'seve' push but i would prefer to use the built in outlook email program. I thought that there may have been away to edit the registry or something to allow it to send/receive more often than at just 5 minutes..
Hi all-
I use Microsoft Outlook for my corporate email. Our main office disables Outlook from 12:00am-5:00am everyday for some reason.
I have my email sync set "as received". I was up in the middle of the night last night and checked my phone. I was receiving multiple sync error messages (since our corporate server was off line). My phone was hot and my battery was draining even while on the charger.
Is anyone aware of a program that has the ability to set specific times to sync?
Thank you!

If you're using a 2.1 ROM, you can manually turn off sync via the Power Control widget. Just a thought. Other than then, you can just turn off your mobile connection, so it doesn't do any data at all...I mean you're sleeping anyways right?
I know you're probably looking for a solution that would take care of itself, but thought I'd offer it up there.
Thanks so much for your reply and suggestions.
I really am hoping for some kind of automated program so I don't have to remember to turn it on/off all of the time. I'm old, lazy and forgetful!
I wish the syncing options were more like on WinMo 6+ for exchange where you can set peak hours and what the recurring sync schedule is for peak and off-peak times.
Great feature I miss. I would set for every 10 or 15 minutes during peak and every hour during off-peak. Great battery saver.
Maybe something like Auto-lock or Power Manager that can integrate with locale or a timer app so that you can shut off data syncing during certain times or locations. But then again, it would need to be specific settings per items you want to sync.

I set up my Xoom with my exchange account last week, everything was working fine or so i thought. Now im seeing that Im getting email 10-15 min after it shows up in my inbox. When I was using touchdown I would get the email on my Xoom before my computer most times. Is anyone else haveing issues like this. I prefer the stock app but I would like email to come in fast. Right now I must go into the email app and refresh it.

Self bumb. HELP IM GOING NUTS. I noticed the same issue is going on with my phone too. all other users in network with android phones are fine. just me >.< could activesync be freeking out because I have 2 devices trying to sync
Noticed a bit of a delay as well today with the stock app. My phone (Nexus one) gets mail pretty much at the same time outlook does but a 5 minute delay on the Xoom. Are you guys on Exchange 2010 or 2007? We are on 2007 currently migrating to 2010 and should be completely done with the move in a few weeks. Hoping 2010 corrects the issue.
Are you using any task killers? I am so tomorrow I am going to disable them and see if there is a change.

So no luck this morning with the default email app. Touchdown, however, worked nicely. I am actually receiving my email on the tablet before my phone now. Not the ideal solution but it works.
I have the same set up. Android phone and Xoom set up to activesync. Every once in a while, the xoom is very slow in updating. Not sure why. If anyone has any thoughts, please let us know!
I think this is an issue with Honeycomb. I have also noticed that sometimes GMail does not sync as quick as my phone does. Using the Wifi Only model btw.
Ok, after i went home last night I noticed things got better. Today while im at work everything seems ok. takes about 10 sec or so to sync to my Dinc and Xoom.
What we did to fix things:
1. logged into the mobile admin site for our active sync, I have been sync'ing virtual android systems and I had 9 different devices sync'ing everytime an email went out. so we deleted all my unused devices. ( there was 2 copies of my phone from flashing)
2. In the mobile admin site your exchange account is seen by an Alias. whith all the T/S steps I had been trying my alias in exchange got deleted. This does not prevent Active Sync from getting email to me but it does make it look a bit longer to find the right mailbox.
3. I noticed that I had many services trying to sync the same info this is bad. Touchdown was still running even after i tried to remove my account. Uninstalled it. Gmail is trying to sync books/calendar/contacts so i uncecked all ( I use exchange for everything)
4. Under running services I saw that attachment downloader was running in overdrive all the time. So in the account settings of the exchange account I unchecked " auto download attachments when on wifi." We email pdf's all the time they can get big and I saw that I would not get am email untill the entire pdf was downloaded. Also We use HTML email sigs, each sig is 3 attachments. After I made this change the attachment downloader service seemed to let up alot. if it didnt help me email issue it at least freed up some ram
Im not saying that anyone of these steps was the end solution to my problem but they all seemed to make things run a bit better.
Hi guys,
I've found several mails around my issue but none solved out my exact issue:
I want to use the stock email app to connect to my IMAP account but since I'm using that account for several years now, it hold round about 6000 mails in the Inbox. Thus I would like to limit the no. of downloaded emails. Its working with Exchange-accounts (by defining a limitation by days) and I could even swear that it worked for IMAP out of the box (I'm not sure though that there was a switch to define the no. of days that I would like to receive).
But now, after I started to set up my phone from scratch: As soon as I finish setting up my account, the Nexus starts leeching Gigs of mails to the phone.
I know about K9, but I'm interested in a solution with the stock app as I'm sure it was working before.
Thanks for you help.
