is there any chance to alive that unit? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

hello,
friend of mine bring to me one MDA Compact with the following symptoms
-the unit do not power on - when insert bat. -just sound "PUK" is heard
-when try enter boot mode - same sound "PUK"
-hard reset /soft reset not possible too again sound... "PUK"
all that happen after using xda2unlock, he try to unlock network lock
the unit is from T-Mobile, and he said so: "on screen was shown xda2unlock.. then software start to work...but seems not success becouse i waited much time and only ..................................................... was shown on screen, then i removed the device from cable and pull out bat"
any chance to alive it? to enter boot mode somehow via hardware modification?
or any idea what can be wrong with that unit?
thanks

Typically you need to contact your operator to get a PUK code. I think it is a sim lock. try removing the sim card.

@mitchello
LOL! I think that 'PUK' was the sound that came out from the unit, not a SIM Puk request !!
@dsimka
By the way, are you able to reset the unit to Bootloader Mode (Power+camera+reset) ? If yes you may want to try to reflash the unit with the original or a newly released ROM. That *should* solve your problem.
Cheers.

hrm
MDA compact work now...
the problems was that back panel was not closed
seems if battery panel not closed - unit does not power on
simple, but ...

Muahahahahahaha
Just like a problem with computer, when it does not turn on and shows black screen. The solution - plug in the power cable

It can sometimes be that simple.
This swf is quite funny, and sooooo true!!!

NBD 7.9 & Boot problem

Hi,
I have installed ~2 weeks ago NBD 7.9 and everything was ok. Today I have restarted my phone to change my SIM card but my phone could not start.
I see HTC logo but phone freezes after having NBD logo and nothing happens.
As you can image because of could not connecting to the phone, I can not also update ROM.
Any tip to recover my phone?
Did you try a hard-reset?
Can you explain what exactly you mean? Probably I do not know what is hard reset on these devices.
Ok I have found hard reset on the page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WizardFAQ
But now there is no power also. I also could not boot anymore.
* Press and hold both the Comm Mannager Button and the Voice Command Button
* While keeping those two buttons pressed, press the Reset Button with your stylus
* After about a second you will be prompted for confirmation. Press the Talk Button to confirm
----
oh I see, you found it.
the hard reset set your phone to the "original state" of the ROM (in that case right after you installed your NDB rom).
what do you mean there is no power?
Could it be your battery is empty and needs to re-charged?
There is no response on the phone now.
I suspect battery is empty but when I try to connect power cord no response also.
If you are sure your battery is not empty try to get into the bootloader mode:
depending on the type (G3 or G4) follow the instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
especially step G3.2 or G4.2 respectively.

When I tried to connect to power while the phone is off it takes some seconds before response. Have try.
I have a G3 device (Vodafone VPA II Compact). But there is still no response.
I think it is power issue now. The bad thing is that I have only USB cable at home and the main power charger at work now.
Are there any way to charge with USB cable when phone is not open?
I would suggest following:
1. ensure your battery is full
2. do the hard-reset again - this may solve your problem already
3. if not, try to get into the bootloader mode (see the thread referred to above for instructions)
4. follow the instructions to re-load the ROM

I just tried ... while your phone is off the USB connection to the PC should provide you the current .. at my case the WIZARD starts to charge .. have a try.
----------------
the red LED light on the right above the display indicates the charging .. and turns green once it is fully charged, so in any case, you should see a light, although it takes 3-5 seconds after connecting to the USB.
Does it work?
I have tried and there is no light. As I remember before it was not possible if you are not connected via ActiveSync.
Anyway, I can try Monday at office.
Thanks for your help!!!
You're welcome. Good luck for Monday. Hope it will work out. Not much help yet from me but I will be around here.
This was driving me mad as well. I had to put it into bootloader mode (holding camera while resetting) and flash back to the Tmob 2.26 and then reflashing nbd.
The trick is to disable the HTC home plugin before you install any other apps. From what I understand its to do with some mysterious dlls.
I found this out on Friday and so far I haven't had any problems but I guess its still early days.
Good luck!
OK. It was a power issue and I could make a hard reset at office and it works again now.
I will try NBD 8.1 and see the difference.
Thanks for your help a lot!
good to hear it is working again!

G1 won't boot

Hi all... and sorry for my bad English ;-)
I've got an HTC G1. When I try to start it, nothing happens. Only the backlight turns on ... What can I do?
do you have a rooted g1 with recovery and engineering SPL?
No, it isn't rooted...
Is it brand new? I think you should be able to exchange it, if you got it from a store that is; unless you got it from online then you will have to contact the website and see where that goes.
No, it isn't brand new. Someone gave it to me... So i can't exchange it.
Try to boot it thru camera+power holding. Wont help you if success but at least will tell you where the problem.
if he can go to recover mode screen wont remain completely black as far as i know. Because splashscreen appear before recover (or other) mode starts. I might be wrong of course.
If I try to go into the recovery mode thru camera + power button, nothing happens. Only the backlight turns on (black screen with backlight & keyboard backlight...)
Follow first 6 steps in this form...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
tihs should boot your G1.... then if you want go on ahead with other rooting steps to root your g1..
I tried the first 6 steps, but it won't work. I think I can't entry bootloader mode. On step #4 (...)You should see a gray/white screen with instructions(...)
nothing happens on my Phone. :S
Isn't it possible, to flash the bootloader/firmware over USB or something like that?
*push* no solution?
are you sure the phone does not boot? Does it rumble when you first turn it on?
I have a similar problemb, but my phone will completely boot and work, but the lcd does not work it stays black. i can move apps around (they rumble when you pick one up), and i can recieve calls.
I was able to get it to occasionally boot with the lcd working by rebooting the phone with call+menu+power. It worked long enough to reflash the rom to rc29, and boot into it. Then it died shortly after.
mine is going to htc.
Yes, it does rumble when I turn it on, but I think it doesn't boot. So I can't "move apps around" or "recieve calls"
And I can't use the warranty, because I'm swiss.
another way to tell if it actually boots is plug it into a pc after giviing it enough time to boot, and listen for the usb connection notification sound your phone should make.
just trying to help you narrow it down. When i am contacted by HTC i will be sure to try and get as much info from then as possible. hopefully ill get something that might help you.
Since you wont have to worry about voiding your warranty, I also suggest snagging the factory service manual and make sure all the flex cables/connectors pertaining to the lcd are properly connected. This, of course, is under the idea that you have the same problem as me.
good luck
When I plug the phone over usb into a PC, the pc find it as "HTC Android Phone USB Device".
Hmm I don't think, that the LCD is broken, because the backlight turns on... If the lcd is broken, the backlight won't turn on, right?
the backlight on mine would also stay on. then again my lcd worked intermittenly at first and proceded to work less and less, but the backlight would remain on. However, I think your problem differs from what I encountered.
The fact that your pc recognizes the phone means the usb controller is working, but thats about it... I am just trying to find out for sure if you phone boots or not. That will help narrow down the problem for sure.
Have you tried calling it from another number?
It also never hurts to take a peek at the factory service manual... if you havent already
thank you. hmm... I think I can't recieve phonecalls.. but I'm not sure. (I tried it, but yeah i don't know. xD it doesn't rumble or something like that...) Is it possible to have "remote" on the phone? So I can use it over the PC?
They have shipped my phone back. Apparently the screen dying was a side effect of the keyboard going bad...The keypad did not give me any problems though. I was told they replaced the keypad FPC (part no: 73H20137-41M, pg#102 in the service manual). They replaced nothing else.
Unforutnately they did not have any more info to give me. In your case, i would suggest opening it up and checking all the flex cable connections to ensure they are properly and fully attached. of course this check is not really for the faint of heart technically speaking, but it shouldnt be too bad with the service manual as a disassembly/assembly guide.
are there any tutorials how to open the g1? =)

Problem: Raphael doesn't ask for SIM PIN when turned on

Hello,
my problem is that when I soft reset my device then the SIM PIN screen comes up for a second and then disappears and the phone starts loading TouchFLO. After that it also doesn't come up. I have to open Phone to get to the PIN screen and log me onto network.
Any idea how to fix it so that the phone asks me PIN code every time it boots up?
Thanks.
I've got the same problem.
But it's much easier to turn the phone on. Just press the "green" button on your phone and the screen where to fill in the PIN appears.
I know, it's not a real help, but it makes life more comfortable
Hope I could help you...
Update your rom to another one, some of the original 6.5 builds did this, but most roms have been fixed now.

no bootloader - phone still working

hi,
I'm on WM6.5 by Gregory which works fine - only issue is that I have no bootloader. The update worked nicely and it almost feels like I have a brandnew phone. But then I saw NitroGenious' signature with links for updated IPL and SPL and thought - well higher numbers must be better. Issue is that during one of the installs of a ?PL not sure if it was the I or the S - I was panicking slightly the installation program stopped and windows (xp) said an error had occurred and the program needed to be terminated. Instead of a bootloader I have a blank screen - removing the battery and switching on the phone gives a working phone again.
So I'm left with a perfectly working phone but cannot access the bootloader anymore. I have no immediate need for it as I have a working phone but I would feel better if I had a 'complete' phone again. You would have thought I had learned my lesson but would consider an attempt to get a bootloader back on.
silly99
Try to access bootloader this way:
Press and hold 2 buttons - Camera and CommManager, further press Power button and release it (release only Power button, keep first 2 buttons held). It should load into bootloader mode, at last. A must.
hi,
Thanks for the suggestion - both ways of accessing bootloader give the same result: Cam + CommMan and power or Cam and usb cable. Blank screen. Removing battery and putting it back in restart the phone.
I had faced same problem. In my case it was after formating BINFS, it was only whitescreen and nothing else. After some sweating I found the culprit, it was the minisd card slot, I remove, reinsert, some movement of the card.. then ok the bootloader comes back..with great relieve. Now my phone is back with new 6.5 ROM.

Thanks for the tip - similar issue here - I have a 4 GB micro sd in a mini-sd adaptor. I simply removed it and tried to go to bootloader mode and then it worked fine. So it could be a thought to put that as a warning in the guides.

broken mainboard??? How to save data?

Hi!
Soon after a touchscreen repair my E6653 stopped displaying anything on the screen. A return to the workshop revealed that probably the graphics chip is broken - the screen lights up, but it's all black and never shows anything.
Now I'm trying to boot up the phone - as far as I can tell it seems to be working, but without seeing anything it's hard to enter the SIM PIN or the lockscreen code correctly - I didn't succeed so far.
But it's getting worse - I'm neither able to enter recovery (TWRP 3.x) nor is the phone going into fastboot mode when pressing VOL DOWN while connecting the USB cable.
To me this looks like the mainboard is broken - any other ideas? How could I find out?
And more important: Any ideas how to save data???
Yeah Motherboard Died, It Happened To Me Too.
