Why are the files on the ftp removed so often??? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Why is it, that the files on the ftp from xda are removed so often and so fast?
One minute the files are there, the other they are gone! Is there so little space on this server(s)?
For example: many, many people are asking for the original T-Mobile ROM for the Magican/T-Mobile MDA Compact. Once placed on the ftp, the problem should be solved I think! But why is it deleted every time?

EXTENDED ROM INDEXING SITE

there it is folks...after 2 days of hard work, my site is almost done
Im posting it now to get some feedback
dont mind the way it looks atm etc and downloads are disabled for now...
http://www.dmmh.nl/xda/files/
let me know what you think
btw, I still have to add around 450 files to the site, those arent indexed yet, but I wonder what people think about layout, way of sorting etc etc
there will also be a comments section for people who take the time to register and a simple rating system
looks like a great resource
Shouldn't 2002/2003/2003SE/2005 be an option?
nah, not many files for extended roms are operating system dependant, as far as I know
correct me, if I am terribly wrong
Nice job! Layout looks good with the filter system, although I think that some of the customisation cabs are dependent on OS, particularly for MMS. I may be wrong, but at least someone here can correct me!
Keep up the brilliant work!!

tbh, I aquired all of the files of the FTP, Im thinking about adding a upload form to the site where one can upload their extended rom and the file will land in a temporary folder which I access via ftp, verify and move to the real files directory.
Either this, or there has to be a better way of getting to know when a new extended rom is available for download. Maybe forums on the site will be usefull
file downloads working now...
file downloads are enabled
http://www.dmmh.nl/xda/
I am still working on the category sorting....its almost done...but returns wrong matches if more then one category is selected. All the other filter options are working.
TO DO LIST:
- member registration
- further extended comments section, leave comment for members
- develop 'suggest filter' (people who know the file may suggest the filters which apply) for members, gets aproved/ denied via admin control panel
- maybe forums
- rating system
sofar I have magician and blue angel files online, but a lot still needs the filtering applied
Good job bro, but my suggestion is to compress the cab files to rar, you'll gain more space
nice work....and a loooooot to do in the future,if u want to upload all the files
keep on man,i beleive ur site will become a gr8 station, where u can download everything concerning ext rom files
RAGO

there are already 1000 files on there...it would take a lot off time to compress them all manually or so

When arching with WinRAR 3.42> use "Put each file in separate archive" option in Files (Archive) Tab
mmm, I could do that...but I would have to re-index all the files I've already done
Thanks for your c00l project!
I'm voting for adding "WM2002/2003/2003SE/2005/ALL/.NET" option there...
And one thingy, why not to allow file storing directly to Category?
Perhaps putting "trusted sender" OR "not trusted" variable will solve the problem. So when a new member sends file a file's comment will indicate that this file is from "UNTRUSTED SOURCE AND MAY HAVE VIRUSES AND STUF...". But when you review the file yourself you change variable of sender to trusted one and all files he sent become trusted... and adding "DELETE THIS FILE (-1)" option to rating system will save your time on deciding whether the sender is trusted or untrusted...
Cheers
uploading himalaya files now....****in loads of working, I had to use ER2003Edit to extract all files manually...better thank me on my knees!!!!!

Wallaby doesn´t have a extended ROM. Only Adaption have been done via operator Config, which was included in the base rom. There are only a few CAB files in it.
If you get me a server i will upload complete set of operator config. If you don´t have one, i will take mine server and send you the link for downloading....

mmm, ill see what I will do, thank you
I need more space
I have been offered webspace by one of the members here, which is awesome, but I like to keep using my host.
Due to the huge amount of files, it would cause to much delays to query for remote filenames and remote filesizes, causing very slow response times, rendering the site almost unusable
so, if anyone wants to see the Himalaya and Alpine files online...ever.....some donations would speed up the process
forum online
forum is online, but locked for the moment
registration for it is working, but you cant post anything/ view anything yet, as I am hacking the **** out of the CSS and .tpl files to make it all look like I want it to
tell me what you think

I like the layout for the forum.

O2 Active

my god, what a load of ****e!
im trying to setup 25 XDA Mini S's so im trying to save some space on them, the O2 Active CAB is a whopping +4MB! the largest file is an XML file with hotspot locations (+1MB!). one of the larger files is a file called funny.gnp at 225KB... rename it to funny.png an its this useless waste of space (attached)
seriously, why so many large and pointless files! i could easlily just remove the whole cab and save some space (in the ExtROM and when installed) but theres some stuff i would like to keep... i think!
anyhooz, rant over.

Where can I have HTC Streaming Player?

Hi there, I remembered last time someone posted the cab for this HTC Streaming Player, I tried to search for it but I couldn't find anywhere. Does anyone have it?
Thanks
Try this
It from DUMP HTC s730 Wings
Let us know how it works?
I have vague memories of installing this cab, but I can't remember if it was with WM5 or 6. You can give it a try if you want.
I had to zip the cab since it was faulting out when uploading. FYI.
The one from Wings works, but it is installed in the main memory, taking up a whooping approx 1.9mb, if only it could be installed in the storage card

You can try this Mobile App Mover at http://www.iaccarino.de/silvio/ppcstuff.htm
BUT be cautious; I had to reflash my phone for using this software though it is quite useful when moving files from \Program Files to \Storage Card\.... but from \Windows.... RISKY

missing file issue?

Since I can't post in the q & a forum I am posting here but mods feel free to move it. So I have a wm6.1 device and a Mac computer and I regularly send files, like cab and music files with out an issue. However, today I noticed that I send a music file like usual and the file is no where to be found on the devices however space about the same size as the file is being taken up. So I send another two files(one music and one cab file) with out an issue at all. Then later on I send a cab file, but I don't see it on the device even though space is being take up. This may have happened prior to this, but I didn't realize it or something. So how can A) regain that space by deleting those files not showing up, or B) find the files that are not showing up and use them as I intended to. I am loosing space because of this. Option of last(and I mean last) resort is a hard rest which I don't like to do. Thank you....

get a good file browser and search for the missing files. You may want to use a wild card search (*.cab,*.mp3)
if you still can not find them look in the folders in /Windows and /Temp or or equivalent on the device
well i am using total commader so I dunno how good that is or not. Not to mention I have done what you suggested and even searched for files added with in the last 3 days and nothing on all fronts but yet the sapce is being taken up by something that I can't seem to find on my device. Memory maid was no help either(granted I only did a clean up). But thank you.
have you tried using the default file explorer?

Cab file downloadng?

Firstly apologies for the noob question, I'm still very new to this WinMo stuff. And secondly I've searched about the forum all day but still having problems....
I've just got an HD2 and wanting to put some of the tweaks on it I've found via this site. When downloaded on my PC I'm faced with 4 or so files, two or three perhaps starting with a 'cab' file name and the other a reg or set up file. Basically what do I then do with these files? With the phone conected via USB I went into the deice memory and dropped all the files into the memory, did a soft reset, but nothing happened, no extra feature etc. Phone just started up as normal. Sorry for my 'thickness' lol. Would welcome any advice or a pointer to somewhere where it may be already written.
Thanks.
Do not unzip the .cab place on phone and browse phone with File Explorer, click on the .cab and install to Device....
It's a common noob mistake as .cab's are compressed archives so look like .zips on computer....
Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give that a go....
after dropping them on the device you have to run them. Open File Explorer and just launch them from there. A setup will be launched usually.
Thanks for the above advice, worked a treat.
Well I've had no problem putting cab files onto my HD2, however now I want to remove a few of them. Not sure how to remove the actual thing that I've changed??? I go into the device memory and I can delete the cab itself but the 'change' still remains, such as new task bar icons etc.
Any help appreciated....
settings -> add remove programs
just like on a computer
Oh yes of course, makes sense now. Many thanks
