Hello everybody,
I'm probably overlooking something but I can't seem to find out how to transfer data from my PC via my XDA II to another PC without the ActiveSync changing all data into PDA readable files.
Sometimes, I'd just like to use my XDA II as a simple Memory Stick to carry data from one PC to another. For example, PPT presentations and stuff like that.
Anyone?
Thanks.
Greetings.
Tools - Options - Rules - Conversion Settings - Remove the check...
This way, it only copies the files..
Thanks Bonzo,
Believe it or not, just found it too and it works.
However, I wonder why the conversion is needed then? I unchecked the conversion settings and I loaded some MP3 music, Word doc's, Power points and a picture, they all work perfectly without the conversion.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.
Greetings
Yes, 99% of the files are possible to open without conversion.
However, they are not optimized for the mobile application.
So in short: conversion = optimizing and compability for the 1%..
I turn it OFF!

Hi!
New to this forum and new to the wonderful world of Windows Mobile.
Coming from a palm-world where most things just tend to work, this has been somewhat of a reminder of the early Windows desktop days.
I'm having some issues (One of these issues made me choose this forum, if this was in error, I apologize in advance).
1. Active sync worked once, but never again.
It seems the mp3-files I added (251 of them), makes active sync just time-out in the media stage. I have not found a way to remove media from active sync either to confirm this. I cannot access settings since it times out with the sync. Edit: The media-row in the active-sync window also states that the installation has to be completed first. Which it already has.
2. Media player does not add files to library.
I do the file-search and it finds 251 files on the SD-card, makes a slight paus and finds 4 more files. Then it adds only those 4 files. accessing the storage card in the library and my music only produces an unexpected error. I have not tried to empty and reformat, or a lower file-count just yet. But to me this seems like a bug that not only scans the storage-card but also the device and then only adds what's on the device. What is added is 4 ring-tones.
3. A2DP...
Well, I read the instructions on the two threads dedicated to this, but it does me no good since I find no files in either of them. I am willing to host those files for you if needed by the way. I really want A2DP since I already got the Jabra BT-620s.
4. Not a real important one but, overclocking.
I ran the OMAP_TI_Overclock thingie, but absolutely nothing changes. Still 195 Mhz whatever I do. I find people have fall-backs in a few minutes or after reset, but this is immediate. The utility says it sets the clock and that the current clock has changed, but as soon as I go to the system-info it says 195. And starting the utility again it says it set as 180 (which according to the system obviously equals 195 ).
These are the current obstacles to overcome before I turn to media-control from the headset, and other more daily handling stuff that obviously already works fine (Voice-control, and contacts and stuff)
There was something more, but I forgot. I'll return to that. Now I'm off to the golf course hoping for some good advice to start pouring in...
Best Regards
Bo Eriksson
1. Buy a card-reader. They're cheap and save your nerves as AS 4.1 is EXTREMELY unstable comparing to 3.8 one
2. Dunno.
3. Try reading again. Works just fine
4. In the ABOUT info you'kk never see the change as it's not a monitor of CPU but the info contained like plain TXT. as for the program use action-set clock - and then action-exit. If you do load it before you turn Prophet off you'll see the clock is still in there
About #1:
Yes, I have several. More than I have computers actually, which is a lot!
Not that more helps in this case. I got my S200 Yesterday so I am really only starting out to get things going. This is just my initial small problems. I just find it frustrating that I cannot change what will be synced with Active sync until a sync is successfully completed, which is never. So We'll see how I solve that one...
About #4:
Is there a real system info utility around?
About #3:
I am sure it works fine. I just cannot find the needed files. They're nowhere around for download. At least not in the threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43992&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=225
And:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=275438#275438
So if you know where they are (Especially the one talked about in the first thread), please direct me towards them.
Best regards

1. I just mean uploading thru AS WAS ALWAYS laggy and still is unles you do upload small files.
4. Why would you want one, you just see it working faster.
3. I attached both files zipped for you.
Ok, I got A2DP working now, Great, and thanks. I didn't realize the files only were visible while logged in , yup real newbie-alert .
And I installed Resco Explorer to do things more easily.
What remains is the problem with my Media library.
I cannot fathom what's going on. It's like this. I have 221 files on the storage card, and the system has 4 on the device itself. It scans both and lists 225 as found, then it takes a good 3 minutes adding files. Then it reports 4 files added. And only the library on my device shows anything (The four ringtones) trying to access the storage card library only results in an error.
Still, I can just click any of the files in the explorer and it plays perfectly (now in glorious wireless stereo!)... So there's nothing wrong with the card and the files. It's just the Library update thingy that fails me.
Best Regards
Bo Eriksson
I solved the Media Library thing.
I started deleting albums and doing new updates, but still no luck even down to one single MP3. So then I remembered something someone said in a thread somewhere about the MSMETADATA folder containing the library, so I simply removed it from the storage card and updated the library again. Voila! Now it works!
From now on I will only add a smaller number of files at a time, doing new library updates...
So now it's only the Active Sync problem remaining.
I just can't get it to work anymore. I tried reinstalling it late yesterday, but no luck...
Best Regards

Hi,
I would like to know in which file the phone (mine is an HTC Artemis P3300 = XDA Orbit with WM6) stores the call history (outgoing and incoming numbers).
I know that there are tools for exporting this data, but they are of no use for me now because my phone's display broke a few days ago, and all I have are the files that I could copy to my PC via ActiveSync (all except some that were locked).
If I know which one is the correct file, I could copy it to my new phone and retrieve the call history from there.
Thanks

I think all this is stored in PIM.vol, but I may be wrong.
I have written an app to read from it only, but all that is done via the API on phone.dll.
On the other hand, have you tried an app such as MyMoblier, it allows you VNC style access to your phone, you should then be able to install a product like PIM backup and backup you call logs.

Thanks!
Indeed I tried to use MyMobiler to install a backup program, but since MyMobiler was not installed on my mobile phone before, I never got it running. For a successful installation you have to perform some action on the touchscreen, but if the display is dark your chances are rather bad.
Happily, with the help of ActivSync I managed to save many files. And pim.vol was within those. I restored that file to my new phone and voila, my call history is there again!
By the way, that app that you wrote for reading pim.vol, where can I find it?
Cheers

I never released the App, it has no UI output.
If you can code, I suggest you have a look on MSDN for help writing the app.

Fan of HTC and for some time regular reader and sometimes "poster" and in few years of using WIN mobile devices I've came to "on and on" problem. Data settings (GPRS etc.). I'm from small country and usually settings must be made manually.
And now question for you braniacs, is there maybe some kind of a appliacation where you could fill out demanded informations and you would get out a .cab file, install it on your windows mobile device and voila? If not anyone with enough knowledge to made that kind of an app or cabs?
I'm sure I'm not the only one with this "problem" so you would help out a lot of people.
hi is there an android app to mount iso files?
I doubt it and i can't even begin to imagine why you'd want one! Care to elaborate?
I have iso training video files from work and want to watch them on my phone during travels.
Best thing to do would be to use Power ISO to get the vids then transfer them to your phone
I would suggest transcoding to another format as .iso will not play on your phone. Try Handbrake which is a great, free program.
Yea ISO isn't supported as a video format, you'll need another application to convert it to something decodable.

It would be nice to put a downloaded file/film directly on your phone
Or download it from your phone.
.......without having to spend a cupple og hours converting it to an other format.
My computer play iso's directly, why not also my phone?
Around 1/3 of what i download is ISO's........
Dude.
No, your computer does not "play iso" files. It is likely that it mounts them and plays their content, though.
What Android is missing, in your case, is a way to mount these images. It already comes with many players that will be able to play their content.
Well, yes, my computer mounts the iso, then plays the content.........(=my computer plays iso's)
rshemeld point is (and mine) that we would like our phones to do the same........we can always discuss what to call it, in what order stuff is going on, but that's beside the point.
Your computer plays the videofiles contained in these cd/dvd Images, so why don't you just copy those from your pc to your phone? Chances are, you don't even have to transcode them... or, since isos are some kind of zipped files, try any unpacker you can find to open them.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
One problem with that method is that the video file is chopped up into smaller pieces, I have tried to download several video players that can play them in the right order automatically..........but they couldn't

Geez... let's name a few others other than the one the originall poster stated...
Using a bootable ISO...
You would be able to boot your computer for oh so many reasons.
1.) Unlocking a locked OS
2.) Running Defrag the way it was meant to be run (w/o the original OS locking files down).
3.) Recovering deleted files/partitions w/o having to pull the drive and use another PC.
Number 4 and prob one of the best reasons...
4.) Try to see an iPhone do that! Just another reason why a Droid no matter what flavor... is still just BETTER!
I would like to use my DroidX with an [email protected] BootDisk ISO (http //www livecd com) so that I don't have to lug around another CD/USB. Plus on some networks USB devices are unauthorized unless they have biometrics. I'd still rather just boot from my phone.

Though your reason is different than mine... I would also like to see this happen.
Esp if the PCs can see a bootable ISO as a bootable CD... and i'm sure I'm not the only one as some google searches will show.

Sure. It is even bundled with Android system.
Code:
mount -o loop -t iso9660 /path/to/file.iso /mnt/somewhere
Does not work? Well, here is the "small" glitch. Unless
Code:
cat /proc/filesystems
returns iso9660 among others, you would better start with recompiling your kernel.
Thx for the info!
Helps narrow down the options.
Time to see of anyone has recompiled

I was wondering if there are any updates to this topic?
I would love to be able to somehow view the contents of several cdroms I have on my tablet running 3.2. These cds/dvds are interlinked files for example to do sample exams, the program can then check the answers. Another example is a dvd with multiple htmls interlinked with each other. I have tried converting all the files to a linkable pdf but about a third of the links still dont work and some files cannot be found or one has to scroll through the whole document. Any suggestions how I could get something like this into a format that would work on the transformer tablet?
Are there by now any apps which could read an iso file made of the cd/dvds?
any of you guys have an update on these thread? i love also to see my training videos running on my android phone.
Why don't you convert the videos into *.avi-files for example before transfering them onto your phone?

I've got tons of DVD-ISO's on my home network (QNAP NAS) and it would be really cool to be able to stream those on my SGS2 but I guess that's a no go. Even my old 166Mhz PC could do it since decoding mpeg2-video doesn't need a lot of CPU power.
I have used DVD Copy Pro to turn DVDs or ISO files into video files. Also have the option to compress them, so not taking up 4gb of space. Can compress significantly and have played just fine on my android phone. I'm sure there are many other programs that will do the same thing.
Hey, long time XDA fan... short time account cred loser :crying:
Anyway just got the Note, and I'm liking it,but I got it for office use.
What is the best way/app to allow me to autosynch files when I export a note and connect my note via the cable?
The notes will contain highly sensitive data, so that removes the option for Cloud solutions unless you know that auto encrypts before synching.
Thanks, in advance!
Bumping for hope of an answer. This is becoming more important to my long term ownership as my workplace is looking to deploy new MDM and policy control around byod devices.

Why don't you try something like Microsoft onenote but im not sure you can sync that without the cloud. If you don't really want to edit the notes you sync u can always save them as pdf's and copy them by usb cable

The best way to sync your tablet with something like Dropbox is an app called DropSync. I recommend getting the paid version as it is far more powerful.
Unfortunately, Samsung chose a format for their Notes app that is unreadable by anything outside of another device running the same Notes app. Why they chose this obscure standard I don't know.

I'm also very satisfied with Dropsync, but also very happy with SugarSync witch has better Win app and better folder setting. You can use my referral to get 500MB more.

What about Kies? I haven't tried it yet, in fact I'm just now downloading it hoping to accomplish the same thing... even so, my use doesn't require such high standards for security. I'm hoping this can make a direct connection with my PC a lot more efficient in order to track order forms and job notifications without needing to print paper.
Hope this suggestion gives you something to work with.
:::Not sure, but thus far it seems like Kies just stores a back-up/recovery file to your computer. Not sure this is helpful but I'm still trying it out:::
Thanks for all the help. This will give me a few things to try.

The best way to sync in the office using the USB cable is with an app and computer software called "Local Sync". Sorry can't post links, but just search the goole play store.
It allows one to sync files from your Note 10.1 to your office computer w/o having to put files in the cloud. I have found it to be completely secure and reliable since its syncs over the USB cable not wireless.
You will need to also download and install the Windows program to run it. You will also need to intall the samsung drivers which means installing Samsung Kies onto your office computer.
With this app and computer software all my critical files between work and tablet are perfectly in sync.
Good luck

OTG sync or file transfers seems to be a hassel. Can't you just use a card reader(SD, micro SD, M2, etc) to connect to your pc and and transfer files via the microSD Card. . No cables needed. Installing Kies means installing versions of Net Framework if you don't have it already installed. Real PIA to install AND uninstall. Isn't it a good idea to use the card reader for large files (under 4 GB)makes sense to me. Plus, you can take the card reader with you on when your away to transfer photos/files from your camera, cellphone, etc to the Note 10.1. Takes less battery power than OTA, correct?
