UK Phone dialer help please! - General Topics

Ok, i feel really stupid for posting this after searching and reading all of the other threads about this, but I STILL can't get my dialer to work. My foreign contacts work, but not the UK. My UK numbers are formmated like this, the way people put them on business cards and e-mails:
+44 (0)20 7431 3543
I have set my dialing rules with 44 as the area code and 0 as the area code. Still, none of my contacts will dial unless I take off either the 0 or the +44. I have way to many contacts to change this on. Sombody in the UK, please help me out.

Have you chosen your country in the settings/system/regional settings?

Calling Around The World

Okay, I've searched extensively and can't find a definitive way of dealing with this simply question.
I have contacts in various countries and call them from different countries. When I am in a different country, I would need to call them using the country code which is what the numbers are stored. However, when I am in the country, I have to make local call without the country code and area code.
What's the best way to do this without editing the numbers to take away the country code+area code when I am in that country?
I hope to hear from someone who travels extensively and share his/her best practices.
sorry? why do you have to take away the country code? all of my numbers are stored in that format, it's the easier thing to do.

So that you call it as a local number.

Little hint: you can make local calls using +00 123 456789 too and they don't charge you internationally. Maybe this is why some people wonder why you're asking this question.
ALL my numbers are stored in the +00 123 456789 format, so I don't have to think about it when I'm abroad.

[Q]WM6.1 - Only one mobile phone number allowed in contacts?

Hello, everyone! I'm new to this great site, and would like to say thank you for so many inspiring posts.
I encountered a big problem --- perhaps it's been discussed before, but I cannot find the answer after trying to search the forum.
I've been a Symbian UIQ users for years. Just 3 weeks ago I purchased my first WM phone HTC Max4G.
For an elderly newby like me, I must confess that using WinMo 6.1 is a frustrating experience. I have lots of questions, but please allow me to bring up the biggest one:
I realized that in one contact only ONE mobile phone number is allowed....?! It's hard to believe! Many people have several mobile numbers (dont' you?) In UIQ you can add as many numbers as you want, and for all types of numbers.
Would you please tell me how to solve this problem?
Or, is there any program to replace the WM6.1 contacts?
(In UIQ3 there's a fantastic useful program called DreamConnect; worth every penny)
...I bought this new phone only for sake of the cool big 3.8" display. Now I feel desperate.
p.s. English is my 4th foreign language. Please don't mind my grammar.

first of all luck you ... A htc max4g ... i'm sitting drooling here.
as far as your problem goes i believe the reason for that is because you are saving contact to sim and when a contact is saved to sim card only one number is allowed. Now if you created the contact on device memory you will be able to have mutliple numbers, picture, email address, actual address, etc etc. of that one contact under a contact
Hope this helps out.
It just works a bit differnt in WM.
Just like in Outlook itself, you can add a HOME PHONE#, a BUSINESS PHONE#, a MOBILE PHONE#. This has to do with synchronization.
If you need more than 1 MOBILE PHONE#, simply add the contacts main mobile number under MOBILE and all others under OTHER NUMBER's - you still can pick them when writing SMS or when calling, they are just not labeled MOBILE ... that's it.
I hope that helps?
BTW:
If you have 'lots of questions' and you can't find the answers, please combine as many questions as possible in 1 single post - that helps keeping the forum clean and reduces the amount of threads.

This isn't all completely true.....
If i were to enter a number into work i couldn't choose to send a text message to it from the "contacts" page.
Thank you, thesire, junner & joel,
Indeed I save all my contacts on device memory, not on SIM card.
Yes, after synchronization from my UIQ3 phone to Outlook, all the HOME MOBILE numbers are lost... (cry). I have around 1800 contacts and I don't know what to do now.
Yes, these days I try to manually move some numbers from SE P1i to HTC Max. It is soooooo inconvenient not able to distinguish HOME MOBILE# from OFFICE MOBILE#. (scream)
I have to move some mobile# to other cells as you mentioned, but quantity of those cells is also limited, isn't it?
Some of my contacts have more than 10 mobile# since I include numbers of his, his wife, his driver and his secretaries altogether, for whom I don't want to create separate contacts. Symbian has no problem with this at all. Symbian also allows me to add comment after the telephone numbers.
WHY is Outlook & WinMo so idiotic???
I will post other questions later within this thread, in order to keep this forum clean. Thanks for any help!

You should ask Microsoft . For me the system is good enough, but maybe you are searching for an alternative to Outlook. There are several applications doing just this, maybe you will find a better one. I think the term for such applications is "PIM".

So you're saying you don't have problems with single mobile number?

Yes, I guess that is what I need. Would you please give more clues about the PIM? I googled "PIM Windows Mobile 6", and got many... too many results. Please enlighten me on this. Thanks
you can use bluetooth to send contacts directly from p1i to max i believe, that would be better and faster solution

Thank you. I tried this... it doesn't help.
For example, I have one contact who has about ten numbers, among them 4 mobile phone #. After beaming to Max, only one mobile phone# remians. Obvious the idiotic WinMo contacts program decides that it doesn't need the other 3 mobile#.
D--n!!
Has anyone used Inesoft phone program?? Can it solve these problems?

Invalid Phone Numbers Problem [SOLVED]

Thought I'd post this issue since I've run into it since I got my new G1. Possibly if someone has a well read blog it's worth posting there for Google to index! There must be others who have this problem. Anyway..
I moved all my numbers across via my SIM card. It seems the SIM cropped all the pluses (+) from the front of all numbers with +447... in my contacts. (+44 is UK code).
Now, a +447.. number is valid, and a 07.. number is valid, but a 447.. number is NOT!!
This I did not know. Now I need to fix 100+ numbers in my contacts.
Further to this, and G1 specific:
In Messaging if I send a message to a 07.. number it goes in a new thread. The reply will always (I think) come back with +447.. as the prefix. This means it starts its own new thread! Annoying at best.
I would recommend everyone change their numbers to use the correct +blah.. country prefix.
Also, the Messaging app could be a bit cleverer with parsing number prefixes when it comes to threading up messages . Android dev team reading??
Anyone else had this problem? Any comments?

Solution: reveal / show unknown / withheld caller's phone number

Please read all of the following -
I have set-up a service that will reveal the phone number of any prank caller / someone who withholds their phone number.
It does cost me to do this so obviously I can't reveal how it works (against the community posting rules here)
I am and this service is UK based and perfectly legal (obviously!)
At the moment, a google search will reveal that nobody else can do this anywhere.....
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR...
I am looking for 5-10 volunteers to test the service and give feedback - Ideally regular contributors/members who have been on this site for a while
Please note that I won't be able to reply to everyone!
It won't cost you anything other than maybe 1 inclusive minute!
HOW THE TEST WILL WORK...
You must be UK based
You simply use any phone to ring a unique UK based number that I will give you - making sure you withhold your number. I will contact you with the actual number you called from.
This is classed as a standard UK based mobile number and will only come out of your free minutes. If you have any doubts, it's simple - move on, I'm not here to con anyone, and I know that I am a new user etc... but follow your instincts - if in doubt...move on!
IF YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER...
Send me a private message, a quick note about who you are and to confirm that you are UK based! I will forward you the details you need. At the moment, the service takes a number of hours to work - eventually this will be instant. I won't be able to respond to everyone!
WHY AM I POSTING HERE...
Because I was sick of nobody being able to tell me who was pranking me with a private / withheld number - in the end I had to change my phone number. I scoured the web - and there wasn't a solution - so I created one.
Like I said, the testing part is free - and I can't reveal how it works because it does cost me to reveal a withheld / private number and rules here prevent me from charging people for a service
SO...
If you meet the criteria above, and want to test the service and provide some feedback in this thread, please contact me.
Otherwise, I welcome any other constructive comments and I will attempt to respond! - don't ask me how it works - read above to see why!
hi how can I get this so I know who is calling me with held. interested in knowing
Ho how can u assist you to know who is calling with eld

[Completed] "19" added before dialed numbers

I own LG G3 Verizon, and I live in Yemen. The dialing country code of Yemen is +967.
And I usually save numbers of contacts with the country code so that I can find them in "whatsapp".
The problem is that every time I call one of the contacts, I get a dialed number like this ( 19967XXXXXXXXX) where X are the phone numbers.
And the carrier doesn't understand the number.
How do I change my G3 settings so that it won't add a prefix.
I searched other threads and were told to change cust. And some posts said that I should change a line in build.prop. But in both posts, those solutions do not exist.
I even changed the reference country in my phone settings to Yemen but that didn't work, it shows that my current country is "wallis and futuna (france) "
How can I solve that?
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. I can see you've also asked the same question here:
[Q]How do I change my G3 settings so that it won't add a prefix/country code
Please refer to the XDA Forum Rules for information regarding the creation of duplicate posts/threads. I'm going to close this thread and let you continue in the other one as that's the best place for your question.
Thread closed, thanks.
