There is another program which you load onto your XDA which will replace the Boot images with the ones you create.
You put the boot images you want into the windows folder on your device, and install the boot image changer, the program then installs the boot images for you. It does not show up on your 'remove programs' list however. If you want to change your images again in the future, just follow the same procedure

Any idea how to uninstall this app?? I installed it, and all it's done for me so far if cause my today screen to hang.

There's noway back The only way is to re-install your own -I mean- devices Splash files and those are embedded in on of the files in the Ext_ROM. Looke for it and extract it from within ur device..
Good luck..

not working
not working...the todays screen not refreshing
unfortunately i have to hardreset to back to normal

Today screen hangs up after changing boot images
For the ppl that have the Today screen hanged up after changing boot images with MDA3_bootimage_changer2, there is no need to hard reset...just switch the today theme to a different one (and of course after that you can revert back to the one you were using! ) and all will be fine!
Tested only with BlueAngel
cheers

Hi pof.
This is a great idea and I thank you for the instructions but I got to #6 and am so new to ROM building(virgin, in fact ) that I must ask....
In the htc rom tool do I leave all fields blank except for the splash screen entry? And where do I enter that? I assume that I type splash.nb into the splash1 field.
Else, do I fill in all of the fields such as country ID, version, IPL?
many thanks.
karlo
one more question. does this flash delete my current tytn's settings (do i need to flash splash screens after hard reset or anytime)?
re
Is there a way to make a .cab file to change the bootsplash image? Also i see some custom roms have a 3d intro (maybe flash?) how would i go about doing this?
Thanks
thanks a lot man
To change Splash Boot screen, made a picture 320x320 pixel 96dpi save it in .png and rename in welcomehead.96.png
Use Resco Explorer, copy, paste and replace the welcomehead.96.png in folder Windows, make a soft reset.
So, this will be the correct tool to use to format images for the Titan?

Optical Illusion Splash Screens
Some optical illusions:
Animated?
Since the image is in .png format is it safe to assume that we can NOT load an animated splash screen??.. Also does flashing via the steps in the first post accomplishes the same as replacing the welcomhead.96.png manually??
Thank you..
jadehawk: you are correct that the welcomehead.96.png is non-animated, if you create an animated .gif and rename it to .png it may work in some programs that read inside the file for the relevant code to know how to display it but most programs including the wm6 bootup hook will not display it how it should so don't bother
Just to clarify that the original post by pof is "THE ONLY WAY" at present to replace the splash screen on initial boot of the phone, the welcomehead.96.png usage is on windows boot (some people have a 3rd animated .gif in between the 2, but this doesn't work on all models even with the registry entries in place, i have tried on my T-Mobile).
hope that helps.
Russ
Thank you
Great thank you for clearing that out.. for now I am just happy replacing the animated.gif file in the windows folder with something other than the HTC animated one.. I have tried to make my own ROM using the kaiser kitchen but so far It has never worked at least not like the really simple tutorials I have found here.. still waiting for a better tutorial with screenshots and all.. so far i will stick with the ones I get from here and use the sprite backup to restore the applications I want loaded in the ROM.. thank you
Hey

Then, i think animation is disabled from registry. If you use any software for tweaking (bsb tweak, sktools etc.), you may check it if there is any option to enable boot animation.
I try with SKtools but nothing ,there is no option to on/off boot animation.maybe i need to rename the fail?!?or to install something?
I copied the animated.gif file to \Windows, and enabled animations in BSB Tweaks (I had disabled it before) but it is the standard animation that runs, not this one.
Which ROM did this animated.gif work on? Because perhaps there is a difference in how the different ROMs look for this file (I think, if it was already using animated.gif, then there should have been a prompt about overwriting the file)

I am using Arto's 2.8 21903; the default windows animation is working; but probably the file is embedded somewhere rather than being visible as animated.gif...
which ROM are you using?
3.003b.00.EN maybe this is the reason i cant use animations
I can use the animation but need to rename first. {startup480-800}. But for the first post image cannot be use because the size is wrong, should be 480x800 not 384x680

How to change the Start Up screen
Choose the file you fancy, rename it to welcomehead.192 and copy it to /windows folder on your device. Restart, Enjoy!
All files are in .png format and if you copy them as it is and just rename them to welcomehead.192, it should work. Please let me know if it doesn't
How to change Splash screen
a) I have also made an animated .gif file if your ROM has a splash screen, you could replace it.
Splash Screen will ONLY work if your ROM already has a splash screen cooked into it. If you are using a custom ROM where splash screen has been removed, then you can't use the animated screen. If you try to install, you won't see any change! Don't worry, it won't brick your phone!
in HKLM\Software\Toshiba\StartupAnimation:
Enabled (DWord) : 1
GIFFile (String) : \windows\animated.gif
Change the one in BLUE to the WM_animated.gif, so that new animation file will be used instead of default 'animated.gif'

That's no problem at all, we will write feedback to XDA on the thread and ask them to provide more thanks per day
Miro, if possible, can you please test the animated splash screen on tg01? I can't. I think in your ROM you have removed the splash screen. If I get feedback and suggestions, I am ready to bang out some more of these babies
ha, tnx, again (i find 5x tnx per day is not enough)
yes, no prob. i will test it and i will make a cab with enabling htc animation!

u can use an external file explorer like Resco file explorer. In properties of file, untick system and hidden. Once u have replaced the file simply put the ticks back for new file. Hope this helps

You should be able to replace Orange splash screen with animated.gif - animated WM screen in the first post. You need a registry editor like Resco registry editor or total commander in order to make the registry changes I mentioned in first post.
Aha, now I understand. I'll try again wit WM_animated.gif from your first post.

Are you use a right 24 bit bmp format?
Tried ones that I had on my DHD.
Had the same problem; Here's a quick how to:
Make sure your image is sized as 540x960 (so you'll lose a bit off of the sides, since the aspect ratio is different vs. the usual 480x800 that many HTC devices have been).
Use the 2nd option of SplashFlasher 1.0 to convert the PNG you have to custom.img. Ignore the warning that says the file should be a certain resolution.
Take the custom.img file and copy it into your fastboot directory. Rename it to new_splash.img
do this:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash splash1 new_splash.img
fastboot reboot
(credit to jbrew78 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171290)
You should be all set! For some reason, the splashing from splashflasher doesn't work with our devices, but it's converting tool is the easiest for me.
This is my first attempt at a how to, so please let me know if there's anything I could help clarify, or if it doesn't work/what step you get stuck on.
Hope it helps!
Cheers for that bud, yeah the tool is handy it is a shame that it doesn't work with the Sensation. Just need to find out what I have messed up with the bootanimation now.
I put a new one in and now I can't work out how to do it again lol?
And that was really easy to follow and helpful thanks.
i use this way and it works

Custom Boot / splash screen creator for HTC Mega

Boot / splash screen is the image that appears when you turning on your device.
1. Select 240 x 320 bmp image
2. Run nbimg.exe with parameter -F yourfile.bmp
3. The program creates new file named yourfile.nb
4. Copy yourfile.nb in NBHUtil directory
5. Run NBHUtil.exe, Select target device - Touch2, For Splash - select yourfile.nb, Build NBH!
6. Copy the created file yourfile.nbh to Radio RomUpdateUtility directory
7. Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe and flash your device
PLEASE NOTE! BACKUP YOUR DATA FIRST, BECAUSE IT IS POSSIBLE TO CAUSE HARD RESET!
Using NBHUtil.exe you can also add your custom splash screen to your fav. ROM.
