Hey guys,
I hate for my first post here to be a problem, but while trying to get Wargus running on my Touch Pro I changed the registry setting for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEDriversConsoleOutputTo to 0 to use PocketCMD.
While browsing around trying to figure out why PocketCMD won't display text unless I scroll up or down, I found someone who said they managed to kill their Pro after reboot by changing the value to 0, like the instructions said. Before I reboot I was hoping to change it back to the original value so that I don't have this problem.
They claimed that by doing this, it caused the console to come up on boot and they were unable to continue past this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I just got this a few days ago and would hate to have already killed it .
just do a hard reset....
That is what I ended up doing. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to lose all my contacts and installs I had already entered. I guess I have learned my lesson to backup the registry before messing around. Thanks anyway, though.
Whenever I do a hard reset, I save all my contacts to my sim card, or I do a back up with HTC data back up.
Here is the backup tool I use
Thanks, I will probably end up using that regularly. The problem I was having before is that WM wouldn't boot far enough for me to do anything from the phone. It came up with a console menu once the task bar loaded, displayed some diagnostic info and then froze.
I guess this would be a seperate topic as well, but what console do you use for the Touch Pro since the registry editing needed to run PocketCMD causes the phone to freeze on boot?

My HTC Touch HD also freezes at a same way because of the same situation.
How is it possible to install/use this tool since it freezes around at the 5th second after boot?
Hi there
I updated my ROM today from the HTC website (1.90.421.1) and although everything seems to be working well, a very funny issue started. I've searched the forums for something on this but I couldn't find anything. If I open the keyboard the phone correctly switch to landscape mode, but if I close the keyboard the screen doesn't switch back to portrait mode - it stays in landscape mode (doesn't matter if I am in an application or only on TouchFLO). If I switch the screen off and on it correctly switches back to portrait mode. I've calibrated by G-sensor, and I have uninstalled all programs to see if this might solve the issue (it didn't). I've soft and hard reset but this also didn't fix the problem. Everything else seems to be working 100% - the screen just doesn't switch back to portrait when I close the keyboard.
Any ideas?
I would try another ROM.
I flash my TP just about every day. Not because I Have to!...(well,,, maybe just a little) But mainly just to see and feel all the new roms in here.
I am now using my own WinMo 6.5 I "Double clicked" together using Da_G's 6.5 Microwave Kitchen.
Give'em all a try
Hi everyone.
I managed to pinpoint the problem - it was when I restored my backup (Sprite). It seems as if the backup tried to restore the ROM as well, and that got things a bit tangled up. If I just flash the ROM, everything works great (especially the start-up speed improved a lot). I couldn't figure out how to just restore my contact list from the Sprite backup (I thought wrongly that Sprite would at least make that easy...). I rather typed in my contact list from scratch and installed all my programs again. It only took an hour or so and the performance increase was well worth it. If any of you know how to only restore your contact list from a Sprite backup it would be greatly appreciated if you could share that with me (for future ROM upgrades).

I had a similar problem after restoring a Sprite backup. I had to hard-reset and not use the backup. For future ROM upgrades I would say that if your only requirement is to restore contacts then a much simpler solution is just to sync with outlook before changing ROM and then sync again later...
Yep. Me too. Tried the "Level 1" restore when I flashed the new ROM.
I just had this same problem, when trying to restore a warranty exchange phone using Sprite. I'd rather not reinstall and reconfigure everything, but I guess i could. Does anyone know what part of the OS is responsible for the rotation after keyboard is closed? I'll just leave that out of the restore if I can figure out what it is.
Has anyone looked further into this issue? I too had to get a replacement Fuze and used Sprite to backup my data; not just contacts, but all the registry hacks and also installed software. It would be a real pain (more so than the landscape rotation issue) to reinstall and re-customize it all again. I'm not sure what cabs and reg edits I applied. So, it there is a simpler registry edit I can do to correct this, it would be great!
I also noticed that it doesn't always rotate to landscape when the keyboard is pulled out also.
Thanks!
Has anyone tried using SKTools to make a full system backup?? The size of the full backup should be somewhere around 30Mb+.
Anyway it takes quite a while to make a full backup of your whole system, and the weird thing is when i try to restore the full backup, it took significantly LESS time, it was really fast, so i was wondering if it actually restores everything because it was fast and that seems abnormal to me......the phone did restart twice but still, it was a quick restoration, so i'm not sure if it's normal.....
I've never tried this before so i don't know if my SKTools is having problems or not.....but a 30mb restoration shouldn't take less than 3 minutes to restore, it should take longer.
Plus, some of the programs aren't registered, if it's a full system backup it should restore their registrations right??
And lastly, the full backup is in the format of .asb.exe, and the file name is usually the date of when you made the backup, so e.g. 27012010.asb.exe
Well, when i click the file, it doesn't run, it has the same icon as the SKTools Backup option, so it should start with SKTools, afterall that's the app that made the backup, but it doesn't run. I had to launch SKTools and choose SKTools Backup, and then restore the backup. Is this suppose to happen??
Well, you should expect the restore to be a lot faster than the backup because all of the files are being written to main memory (hint: do a benchmark and compare main memory vs. storage card memory write speeds-it should be 10X or more faster).
Sometimes it's a little buggy; I did a few restores recently, and clicking on the .exe didn't open up sk tools-not sure why. Also, whenever I go to the backup tool and check boxes for things I want restored, and then select 'restore marked', it doesn't work. It will just sort flash into the wait-screen for a few seconds, then nothing gets restored. The only way the restores work for me is if I do a long press on the individual backup files in the backup tool and then select 'restore' individually.
It should be obvious if the restore worked or not, though. I mean, did it, lol? Was everything restored? Three minutes or so is plenty of time to restore your stuff, I would think. If it ran through the two soft resets, then I would say you are good to go. Only do the restores after a hard reset, and you can also skip customization to speed things up (do a soft reset immediately after the screen-alignment step, when the '3 seconds to customization' pop-up appears). All of the customization stuff gets stored in the backup file, so there's no point in going through it twice.

ya that's what i do as well and i'm having the same problem as you do. At least now i'm sure it's not just my SKtools having this problem....
and yup i use SKtools to restore everything after a hard reset, most of the stuff seems to be restored fine, like my contacts and favourite people contacts are all setup, all the tabs i rearranged on touchflo3d are correct, mostly everything is but some registration for certain apps aren't. Ah well i guess i'll just take it that it restored properly, i can do the registration myself.....
thanks for ur reply btw, appreciate it
Hi,
Yesterday, my touch pro suddenly became unresponsive.
The hardware buttons still seem to work sometimes with a delay, but the touchscreen only rarely responds and with a huge delay.
I seem to remember that this kind of behavior was the reason for my last hard reset, so that might help.
However, I would rather not do a hard reset since I have it configured the way I like it (nothing recent though to mess with the touchscreen or something, it really came on suddenly).
So 2 questions:
1) anyone else had this behavior and knows what went wrong?
2) any easy way to easily get back to my familiar configuration if I would hard reset?
TIA!
I've experienced this behavior once or twice using NRGZ ROM but I think it was partly due to my inexperience with the ROM itself at the time. Needless to say, I re-flashed and it seemed to have worked till it happened again a few flashes afterwards. I then suspected a possible bad block, I decided Task29 was the way to go. To my surprise, I have yet to experience anymore "freezes". Keep in mind, I don't use many of the mods nor apps to tweak my Fuze. So, I would say your experience will vary with each additional app or mod you use as I have attempted a few and noticed gaining either performance but lacking in stability.
As for how to get back your configuration after a hard reset, I use a few things. All of which are included in the ROM itself. Settings exporter and from time to time, I use XDA_UC which requires some prior knowledge but I hear if you use a lot of registry mods and the likes, it would probably be more beneficial. I also use MS MyPhone to get my contacts back.
n-Joie! (Enjoy)
One thing to try is a full backup/hard reset/full restore cycle. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Just use Sprite or some other backup utility (sk tools is better than sprite). It's easy enough to do, and you won't lose anything.
The other question is what else is going on? Are you really low on storage memory? Low on ram? How many processes are running? Perhaps you have some garbage processes (like manila.exe, lol) running that need to be killed or removed from startup. You might try running a storage memory cleaner (like in sk tools or clear temp), and see if that helps. You could also try running a registry optimizer. There's a tweak posted in this forum where you export the entire HKCR\CLSID registry key and then re-import it to your registry (immediately after), and it has noticeable speed effects on some actions (namely, switching SIP's). That might help you out. I do it now immediately after flashing, and it's a great tweak.
Let's see.
Hard reset, yes I know that might work, just first looking to find a reason and hopefully avoid that (or at least prevent it next time around).
I connected my touch pro to my pc at the moment and jeyo mobile companion gives me the folowing:
Power 63% (charging)
Program memory Free 58% 115.92/200.87
Storage Free 41 125.7/309.97
Storage card Free (same as above since I removed this one to check if that might have been the problem)
Task manager
|-Task
KMS 9 (checking if virusses might be the problem)
Desktop \windows\shell32.exe
|-Process
Doesn't seem to give anything
Is there a better desktop app to check my processes? 'cause this just can't be right.
Task29 seems to be to flash or something which I never did, I just didn't let the automatic settings thing continue last time I hard reseted because I don't want manilla and all that stuff, I installed Spb mobile shell among others...
SK tools I still have to try/install, perhaps I can use this to backup too... we'll see
Meanwhile, no viruses found, gonna install sk tools now (seems to be easier to control my device using MyMobiler than touch screen, although still teribly slow)
Thanks for the sugestions already and more always welcome
Wow, you're pretty low on storage (not dangerously, just low), but you're on a stock rom, so that's probably the reason. I couldn't tell you what desktop task managers to us; I'd just check your processess with dotfred's task manager, or use sk tools task manager if you're installing it. Also, try the registry optimizer in sk tools, and see if it helps (I'd do a full system backup first, though-it's a somewhat risky operation). And use the shortcut wizard in sk tools to create the 'compact heaps' shortcut. I have the issue where my buttons and the d-pad stops working, and running compact heaps usually fixes things (for a while). It's especially an issue using the capacitative part of the d-pad. That thing is incredibly unreliable.
I'd say the odds of a virus are really low, so I wouldn't have anything running in the background to monitor for them. If you have a good task manager, it's pretty easy to see if anything weird is running.
I removed the anti virus thingy, didn't find anything anyways.
I installed sk tools, did some cleans and it seemed to improve the responsiveness a little, but it's still useless a lot of the time.
I looked at the processes and tmail.exe seemed to be using a lot, is this normal?
I would copy the list of processes here, but atm I'm trying to get the device backed up as good as possible for a possible hard reset.
I am thinking about trying a non-stock rom, after backing up the stock one. Any suggestions are always welcome.
Thanks
Tmail's a normal process; I personally don't run it (there's a reg key in HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher that launches it at startup), but it won't mess w/ your device.
Hi,
I decided to do a hard reset, screen is responsive again.
Then I also decided to dump my ROM, install HardSPL and Energy Rom.
So everything is working now, still no real idea what went wrong.
Actually I hoped the Rom would improve speed more than it did. I haven't used TF3D for a long while, spb mobile shell was way faster than TF3D. So actually energy rom might be faster than the original, but when it was still working, it was actually quite OK using spb mobile shell.
Thanks for all the help, I'm glad it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem
Manila sucks the life out of the device. I'm pretty sure there are manila-free versions of NRG rom; you could give that a shot, since you like mobile shell. Might as well flash a few roms anyway and not fall in love with the first one you try, anyway.
Let me tell you a story (you can skip if you want to):
Once upon a time I ****ed up the back layer of the touch screen during repair and desperately tried to use my phone with my PC, found some tools online that let me simulate my phone's screen via ADB. Didn't got that working, ADB was unable to recognize my phone. Ok. Then i taped together the touchscreen (one of the absurdest things i ever did), reconnected it to the phone and guess what. It worked. I booted into recovery mode first and it worked flawlessly. No issues whatsoever. "Wonderful" i thought to myself, booting into system mode eagerly. The boot animation went by without any crashes, graphical issues or anything one could think off, and i even was able to enter my pin. When i did that i was full of enthuisasm. But that didn't last long. The SystemUI began to crash constantly, the lockscreen hasn't even finished building and it crashed again. I was absolutely unable to use the device and utterly devasted. Then i absolutely knew: i. ****ed. up.
But that didn't keep my from trying things out and eventually i was able to get past the lockscreen (without a SIM card so no PIN required) without any crashes and back up at least Whatsapp and a few other apps. But then i made the mistake of turning the screen off which set me back to square one: constant SystemUI crashes. I tried again and again and again and finally, after hours of work i got in a second time. This time, i thought to myself, i gonna make things differently. I backed up everything with Titanium, thought of myself to be safe. Which i technically was, i got backups of everything now. Then i decided to re-flash the rom without a factory reset which didn't do anything. Luckily there is an unofficial build of the ROM i'm using (Resurrection Remix) and i clean flashed it. It worked. Flawlessly. I was thrilled. The phone i was ready to toss into the trash finally worked again. I set everything up, thought myself to be safe but boy was i wrong. Google made regular (i think daily) backups of my apps and contacts and all so i wanted to restore that first. But it required a Pattern which i don't have because i always had a 5x5 pattern and it gave me a 3x3 pattern. I didn't know what to do with it!
I continued setting up my phone after failing to restore that backup and then instantly continued to restore the backup i made with Titanium, It installed all the missing apps, apparently restored the data. Nice. But there are a few apps that don't like that restored data so they just didn't use it and started from scratch again (like SwiftKey). Also, some of my contacts are missing and i'm lowkey too lazy to like the existing ones to Whatsapp again.
Tl;dr: ****ed up phone, got it working again, some apps didn't accept the Titanium backup and now i want to restore the Google backup which requires a 3x3 pattern which i don't have because i always used a 5x5 pattern.
Well, the question is simply: Is there a way to unlock the Google Drive backup without that pattern or do i need to try my luck again accessing the old Data (made a TWRP backup before flashing the new ROM)? If i do need to try again, how do i disable the lock on my backups? Do i only need to change my pattern to a 3x3 one?
