Has anyone tried using SKTools to make a full system backup?? The size of the full backup should be somewhere around 30Mb+.
Anyway it takes quite a while to make a full backup of your whole system, and the weird thing is when i try to restore the full backup, it took significantly LESS time, it was really fast, so i was wondering if it actually restores everything because it was fast and that seems abnormal to me......the phone did restart twice but still, it was a quick restoration, so i'm not sure if it's normal.....
I've never tried this before so i don't know if my SKTools is having problems or not.....but a 30mb restoration shouldn't take less than 3 minutes to restore, it should take longer.
Plus, some of the programs aren't registered, if it's a full system backup it should restore their registrations right??
And lastly, the full backup is in the format of .asb.exe, and the file name is usually the date of when you made the backup, so e.g. 27012010.asb.exe
Well, when i click the file, it doesn't run, it has the same icon as the SKTools Backup option, so it should start with SKTools, afterall that's the app that made the backup, but it doesn't run. I had to launch SKTools and choose SKTools Backup, and then restore the backup. Is this suppose to happen??
Well, you should expect the restore to be a lot faster than the backup because all of the files are being written to main memory (hint: do a benchmark and compare main memory vs. storage card memory write speeds-it should be 10X or more faster).
Sometimes it's a little buggy; I did a few restores recently, and clicking on the .exe didn't open up sk tools-not sure why. Also, whenever I go to the backup tool and check boxes for things I want restored, and then select 'restore marked', it doesn't work. It will just sort flash into the wait-screen for a few seconds, then nothing gets restored. The only way the restores work for me is if I do a long press on the individual backup files in the backup tool and then select 'restore' individually.
It should be obvious if the restore worked or not, though. I mean, did it, lol? Was everything restored? Three minutes or so is plenty of time to restore your stuff, I would think. If it ran through the two soft resets, then I would say you are good to go. Only do the restores after a hard reset, and you can also skip customization to speed things up (do a soft reset immediately after the screen-alignment step, when the '3 seconds to customization' pop-up appears). All of the customization stuff gets stored in the backup file, so there's no point in going through it twice.

ya that's what i do as well and i'm having the same problem as you do. At least now i'm sure it's not just my SKtools having this problem....
and yup i use SKtools to restore everything after a hard reset, most of the stuff seems to be restored fine, like my contacts and favourite people contacts are all setup, all the tabs i rearranged on touchflo3d are correct, mostly everything is but some registration for certain apps aren't. Ah well i guess i'll just take it that it restored properly, i can do the registration myself.....
thanks for ur reply btw, appreciate it

Hi there
I updated my ROM today from the HTC website (1.90.421.1) and although everything seems to be working well, a very funny issue started. I've searched the forums for something on this but I couldn't find anything. If I open the keyboard the phone correctly switch to landscape mode, but if I close the keyboard the screen doesn't switch back to portrait mode - it stays in landscape mode (doesn't matter if I am in an application or only on TouchFLO). If I switch the screen off and on it correctly switches back to portrait mode. I've calibrated by G-sensor, and I have uninstalled all programs to see if this might solve the issue (it didn't). I've soft and hard reset but this also didn't fix the problem. Everything else seems to be working 100% - the screen just doesn't switch back to portrait when I close the keyboard.
Any ideas?
I would try another ROM.
I flash my TP just about every day. Not because I Have to!...(well,,, maybe just a little) But mainly just to see and feel all the new roms in here.
I am now using my own WinMo 6.5 I "Double clicked" together using Da_G's 6.5 Microwave Kitchen.
Give'em all a try
Hi everyone.
I managed to pinpoint the problem - it was when I restored my backup (Sprite). It seems as if the backup tried to restore the ROM as well, and that got things a bit tangled up. If I just flash the ROM, everything works great (especially the start-up speed improved a lot). I couldn't figure out how to just restore my contact list from the Sprite backup (I thought wrongly that Sprite would at least make that easy...). I rather typed in my contact list from scratch and installed all my programs again. It only took an hour or so and the performance increase was well worth it. If any of you know how to only restore your contact list from a Sprite backup it would be greatly appreciated if you could share that with me (for future ROM upgrades).

I had a similar problem after restoring a Sprite backup. I had to hard-reset and not use the backup. For future ROM upgrades I would say that if your only requirement is to restore contacts then a much simpler solution is just to sync with outlook before changing ROM and then sync again later...
Yep. Me too. Tried the "Level 1" restore when I flashed the new ROM.
I just had this same problem, when trying to restore a warranty exchange phone using Sprite. I'd rather not reinstall and reconfigure everything, but I guess i could. Does anyone know what part of the OS is responsible for the rotation after keyboard is closed? I'll just leave that out of the restore if I can figure out what it is.
Has anyone looked further into this issue? I too had to get a replacement Fuze and used Sprite to backup my data; not just contacts, but all the registry hacks and also installed software. It would be a real pain (more so than the landscape rotation issue) to reinstall and re-customize it all again. I'm not sure what cabs and reg edits I applied. So, it there is a simpler registry edit I can do to correct this, it would be great!
I also noticed that it doesn't always rotate to landscape when the keyboard is pulled out also.
Thanks!
Wondering if anyone encountered the below issues with Sprite Backup.
1st issue. I had done full restores from 2 minor versions of Sprite Backup 6.5.x.x which presents the same issue.
After a hard reset followed by restoration from the Sprite backup, everything looks pretty normal and functioning great. So I thought.
The lockscreen kicks in. As usual, I press the End button. I get a BLANK screen with all the 5 buttons lighted up ! Not the usual screen where one had to slide to unlock the lockscreen.
The same happens irregardless whether I am using the Manila lockscreen or S2U2.
2nd issue is with partial restore. Somehow, I had deleted the Tools folder in the Start Menu and decided to perform only a partial restore by selecting this particular folder from the backup. After reboot, HTC Sense got started but after a minute, it freezes.
For both the issues above, I ended up doing a hard reset again and faithfully install my cabs all over again.
Anyone have any idea or fix for 1st issue.
I have backed up many times with Sprite. No problems. Stock ROM 1.43(?) WWE
Same problem
Same problem as discussed above. Sprite version 6.5.5.6, ROM - Dutty 4.1.
Would appreciate any solutions to the issue.
Personally I would use PPCPimBackup it is free, easy to use, and WORKS great, I even transferred contacts from one WM system to another phone.

I believe I had resolved this issue all by myself.
There is a restore option setting in Sprite Backup which by default is enabled to do a "Merge" operation.
The blank/black screen with all buttons lighted up was caused by the Today timer which was at the 4-hr factory default setting.
I am not sure how the "merge" operation in Sprite Backup is carried out but had since changed the default setting to "replace".
Last fortnight, I had to do a hard rest and then full-restoration from Sprite backup file. Phone is working normally.
I just upgraded from Elegancia 10 to Elegancia V3. The 'replace' option works so much better. I had to enter all of my CHT quick links again with the 'merge' option. The 'replace' option restored them all perfectly. Neither option restored my 'People' contact images properly. No big deal...
Okay, I saw a few of the related thresds and I can't seem to get this fixed. Root Explorer does not show in my Market so I can't get that.
I can't do anything on my GTablet, it just force closes with that error right back to the home screen and then force closes again.
If I can, I'd love to not have to wipe data (or reflash either). I can't use Titantium Backup since it force closes at the home screen.
Any suggstions?

Yeah, I had the same problem on one of my two G-tablets.
I ended up being able to use Titanium Backup and wipe my contacts data tho.
I got it fixed. Clockwork Mod Recovery and its 'backups' feature is awesome.
I did have to reconfigure all my apps, though, because my backup was after I'd downloaded them but not ran them for the first time. That took awhile, but as soon as I finished I made a backup of that so I won't have to set them up again.
so you ran titanium backup and just wipe the data for the contacts app?
Thanks. I figured out how to wipe with titanium (did email contacts and settings as those gave a blank screen.. Good as new (and enhanced with the TNT enhancement pack)
Hello,
I just got a Nexus 5 phone. Following the instructions in this forum, I was able to unlock the bootloader, get a TWRP Recovery and root the phone. Everything went fine. Then it was time to transfer my apps and data from my old Sony Xperia S. With Titanium Backup Pro on both devices, I made a backup of all apps + system data. Everything ok till that too. Then I restored this backup in Nexus 5. Everything seemed fine, all of the apps were in the app drawer, the ones I opened worked just fine.
But after the first reboot, I get an annoying "Unfortunately process com.android.phone has stopped working" when the home screen loads. No matter what option I choose (Ok or Report), this dialog box just pops up again and again. In the milliseconds between two of this dialog boxes, I can unlock the lockscreen and browse normally (apart from the annoying little box that pops up all the time, of course).
So, what's the best option in this case? Will the factory reset from Android itself solve it, do I need to use the Custom Recovery or can I just go straight to flashing the factory image?
Cheers,
never restore system apps or system data with titanium backup, or this will happen. you can try wiping data in your recovery, that should fix it, but it will wipe your phone clean.
You can't restore system data. You can't even do this from one rom to another let alone different phones
In titanium untick "system" in the edit filters screen.
Then go to the restore screen and select restore missing apps and data.
Then go through each one double checking there are no system apps there and if there are, untick them.
..and yes, you must factory reset now

Guess that's what happens when you trust some Lifehacker article without enough knowledge. It was the system data, then. I unticked every app I hadn't installed by myself.
Concerning the Wipe option, I understand that by wiping the phone clean, that means even the apps that came pre-installed, correct? Chrome, Google Play, the Camera app, the phone app, etc?
No just your apps and your app data and system data

Thanks a lot for the quick answers. :good:
I'll wipe the phone and get back here later to report if everything went well.
Cheers,
Updating, in case somebody goes through the same problem: the factory reset was extremely fast and solved everything. Funny thing is, when I got home and checked the phone, the angry little box wasn't showing anymore. Don't know what happened, but did the reset anyway to be sure.
Thanks again to rootSu and simms22. :good:
Just go settings /apps /all and clear data in contacts and contact storage

Hello,
so far I did not find a similar problem anywhere.
I did a backup of all my apps, played a little bit with some custom ROMs and now I am back on my initial ROM (dokdo).
My problem is: I can only restore very few apps.
If I choose the batch mode several apps are simply skipped without any error message. During the restoration within the "restoration is running" window I see the name of the skipped app for a very short time and the immediately the name of the next app.
When I go to the menu where I can manually restore single apps I noticed that only apps with a smiley at the end can be restored and the ones with a tick not. Unfortuantely again no reason is shown...
By the way: I updated the "super su" app.
Does anyone have an idea what goes wrong?
Cheers

Anyone an idea?
Did you Google the meaning of those smileys?
I am assuming it has something to do with them, since if an app wasnt correctly backuped, you would be simply stuck while restoring that app...
Good hint, I only googled for "apps cannot restored".
Under menu -> legend you can see what the symbols mean and the ticks stay for "only data available" which confuses me even more since that means that the backup did not really work...
